Apprehend the Vagabond

Hunt the Thief
Yosei found himself increasingly irritated as this mission progressed. He had already spent two hours questioning the victims of some petty larcenist in the rain. He dashed down a street as the clouds rumbled overhead, splashing through puddles as he hurried to the next place he needed to investigate. So far three shopowners, two antiques dealers, a sculptor (of little talent, in Yosei's opinion) and a very confused pet-shop owner had all spoken to Yosei and given him the same rough description of the thief. Based on their locations, the criminal's whereabouts were likely be in with in a fairly small radius. Yosei had spent most of the day after questioning eye witnesses on stakeouts near the most likely next location. Currently, he was stationed on a rooftop with his Mind's Eye of the Kagura activated. Even with his umbrella he was soaked to the bone. He should have worn a poncho or raincoat but pneumonia was a preferable consequence compared to wearing something unflattering.
The other genin on the mission was probably hidden somewhere out of sight nearby with a slightly different vantage point as they'd agreed. This way they could cover two likely targets, an antiques shop on the block Yosei was overlooking and a small moneylenders on the block behind him. The thief in question didn't seem to be particularly smart, having gone on a spree of robberies without much time between them, all in the same area. That said, they managed not to be caught each time so in all likelihood they weren't as dense as their transparent pattern of attack suggested.
After an extended wait period, a hooded figure entered the shop. Yosei readied himself. Seconds later, the suspicious character hurried out of the shop with a suspicious bulge in the jacket. Yosei tugged on a string which led to a series of bells at the other end of the rooftop, a system he had set up to alert his colleague. He hoped she was as good at combat as she was at eating pufferfish.
Yosei began descending down from the rooftop but the thief appeared to be more perceptive than he thought, and broke into a sprint down an alley way.
I really do hate it when they run, he thought as he pursued.

- Mission Details:
- Mission Name: Hunt the Thief
Rank: D
Type: Search/Hunt
Character Requirements: Genin or higher
Mission Location: Kirigakure
Word Count Requirements: 1000
Challenges: Hunter (If requested)
Repeatable? Yes
NPC? An NPC may be requested.
Reward: 1000 ryo (2,000 if Hunter)
Task: A thief has been busy putting their greasy little fingers on everything in Kirigakure. Enough complaints have come through and the village has decided it best to throw the task to the genin for training. Find the man or woman and make an example of them to show them why larceny in the Mist will cost you your fingers or whatever other punishment you deem fit.
For the Hunter Challenge to be accepted the mission must possess the tag [Hunter]. If the challenge is accepted you will hunt down and face off against a D-ranked Shinobi in training. They've been spotted around the general area of the village and banking district. You are to engage the the thief, chase him done and subdue him should he attempt to resist. When you're done, hand him over to a chuunin or take him directly to the prison yourself. Nobody would mind if the thief died in an "accident" however.

Momochi didn't really care for or against the rainy weather- it was just something that happened every day at roughly 2 in the afternoon. Likely a result of the storm circle, or warm water currents, or what have you. Either way, the Yamanaka was not a meteorologist and thus did not have an answer. What she did have, however, was a simple pastel pink hoodie to cover her hair. Otherwise, it'd frizz up horribly. Normally, she wouldn't be caught dead in such an outfit, but she was tired enough after a few days of sleepless research that she found that she truly didn't give a flying fuck. Unlike her partner, who was perched on a rooftop, she was on the ground below. Such a vantage offered a better view of the alleys and entwining streets, but not necessarily of the crowds themselves. Through silent agreement, it was decided that she'd probably be best on solid earth anyways- she was much more prepared to handle unexpected melee combat, and Yosei's affinity as a sensor meant that it'd be best for him to have the widest vantage possible.
Her headband was concealed- something that wasn't normally allowed in Kiri save for missions like this where stealth was essential. Pupilless teal eyes surveyed various people as they wandered to and fro, all sort of blending together into a restless monotony. The shops she was watching were different from the ones her partner was looking after- it was best to cover as much territory as possible, after all. The minutes passed into increasingly long periods of time which she struggled to count- she never did have the best perception of linear progression. Ooh, that rhymed. The jingling of a bell snapped her back into focus. He had seen something. Quicker than most, she sprung into action, darting in and out of crowds and pushing aside people in her way as gently as she could. Her eyes managed to catch a dark cloaked figure through the rain- pockets bulging awkwardly.
From what she could tell, the contents within might've been fragile. It'd be prudent, she noted drily as she slowly started to gain way, to be careful in any takedowns to prevent any liability fees or whatnot. Capturing him alive was a bonus- he could easily lead them into other aspects of the Kirigakure criminal underground. Well... the aspects of it not sanctioned by the current veil cloaked Mizukage. Should he prove useful, he might even be recruited into their forces; it wasn't every day that so many successful heists were staged over such a short period of time. Most of his mistakes came from a lack of learning experience... Or at least, she theorized so. People this skilled were difficult to come by, but not impossible. He was replaceable if worse came to worse.
A huff wrought past her lips as she lunged forward viciously, putting on a final burst of speed that'd put most people her rank to shame. She seized the stranger by the throat and hips, careful not to damage the neck too much (nor the goods stuffed in the coat). A high pitched screech left the person in her grasp, leaving her blinking awkwardly.
This wasn't a man at all. Joke's on her for assuming, she supposed.
She adjusted her grip slightly, letting her inhuman strength alert her temporary captive that she was a member of the military. The implication was that if she wanted the stranger dead, she would already be on the floor.
There may be a chance for her yet if she cooperated.
She was silent in Momochi's grasp save for the laboring of her breath.
A pause. She hoped Yosei'd find the two of them alright.

Yosei watched Momochi at work as he stood on the side of the building making his way over to their target. Hell, if that girl wasn't fast as anything. Yosei attempted to keep up but by the time he was directly above them, his ally had already subdued the thief with what looked like a very effective kind of hold. He decided that he would utilize some theatrics just in case the thief decided to try anything. It's not that Momochi couldn't handle her, but if their target was dumb enough to try something she might create a situation where she could be killed as they recapture her, and Yosei didn't feel like allowing even a small possibility of a risk of failure into the mission. He wove the hand signs for the Mist Servant technique while still perched high above the other two, and a half dozen or so spectral versions of Yosei oozed out of the walls of the alley and the rain-slicked street, forming a circle around Momochi and the thief. Yosei descended, landing gracefully on his seat and quickly opening his two fans in a dramatic flourish.
"I believe it would be prudent to surrender, madam, given that you are quite surrounded." He said, surprised to see their target was a woman as the witnesses had all presumed it was a man. He walked over to her and extended a hand. The thief puffed a strand of her hair off her face, looking irritated more than anything else, and removed what looked like a small golden statuette from her coat and handed it over. It appeared to be some sort of idol of a giant clam. Who on earth made statues for clams? Actually, it was kind of interesting. Maybe Yosei will purchase one.
"Well this is curious, but valuable at least. You seem to be unflapped by my genjutsu, and a mostly competent larcenist. You should have gone to the academy instead of resorting to petty crime, I promise you that being a shinobi pays better. Ah well, it may be too late now. Momochi, I'm going to return this to the owner. I will leave it to you to decide what we do with her."

Momochi relaxed minutely as Yosei and his... clones? Mist servants? Approached. "Fancy meeting you here," she commented cheekily, watching with careful eyes as he made his remarks on the situation at hand. The statuette seemed to be a clam of some sort- something that utterly baffled the Yamanaka. Maybe stuff could be stored inside? Surely there'd have to be some kind of mechanism or inside joke that would warrant the creation of such a thing. Her eyes narrowed into focus as he retrieved the object; she could not find anything. Waiting until her two time mission partner took his leave, the blonde turned her eye to her captive.
"You and I both know I could be on you before you blink. I'm going to offer you a choice," she pointed out smoothly. A tilt of the head had her investigate the stranger further. "Attend the academy on an accelerated program, sponsored by the Yamanaka clan." she didn't technically have the authority to do such a thing yet, but it wouldn't matter either way. Inochi didn't seem to have too much of an interest in the position of clan head, and the current clan head was senile at best; he seemed to be kept around only because of sentiment. The Yamanaka were primarily a civilian clan at the moment. "Or I could turn you into jail. Since there were no deaths or injuries, you won't be executed, but you will likely be put on a community service program for several years on parole. Any further offenses will be dealt with swiftly and harshly."
In truth, while Momochi was hoping she'd take the former option, it wouldn't mean much if she didn't make the choice willingly. A pause.
"Fine. Fuck you," the woman in her arms muttered beneath her breath. After a moment, she let the stranger go. She rubbed her arms in response to her rough treatment and huffed.
Excellent.
"I suppose we should head to the academy promptly, hm? Forms to fill out and whatnot." A tilt of the head as a fat drop of rain rolled down her cheek. "May I have a name?" she asked after a moment. "Whatever you use on legal documents would work best." A pause and then a heavy sigh.
"Saki. Clan name Kirino." a nod. An orphan, judging by the surname- Kirino was most often given to people with no family record. A way for Kiri to mark its territory.
She nodded. This would work.
With nothing else to do, they made their way to their next destination.
