Mission:

Mining. That was her task for today - dark, dank, and chock full of useless rocks. The whole endevour seemed like a waste of time to the ever rising Kunoichi Mizuki, so much had changed in such a short amount of time and it all seemed to have started on that mission with Ibari and Kenshin. Thinking back on her behavior before that mission she could easily see the issues in her approach and her debilitating need for information being the key reason she was not as ready to be on a team as she would need to be for a higher ranking position in the village. More responsibility being placed on her shoulders was a welcome weight - one of which Mizuki had yearned for more than she could have thought possible. Sunagakure had become a home like she had never had before in Hoshigakure, she felt a loyalty and protective nature over the people who resided in the walls - even those who were simply passing through. With Suna being the first known village that not only allowed Missing nin, but welcomed them and gave them places to sell and purchase all the things their hearts had ever wanted.

Who would have thought a village like this could have existed where tolerance reined and the word had stretched to outer reaches of the world that visitors came from all corners of the shinobi world and all backgrounds. The characters she had met in her time guarding the gate had been a wide array of colors in terms of personality - Sebastian had to be the most oxymoron of them all though. Outwardly intimidating and frightening to the eye yet his demeanor was something more akin to a goofball with a large heart.

Mizuki continued to reflect on the souls that had passed into her life - some of which had left her explicitly…. Light finger tips would brush across her collarbone that held the seal holding Kai’s chakra stores he had gifted her on their first meeting. Would she ever use it, or was it the last thing that kept the comatose man’s memory more rooted in the present. Then of course there was Amateratsu, she had been attacked and fallen into her own coma only to wake up in a panicked state and collapse in her lap - now she was resting in a private hospital room in the Spire… hopefully the extra care and security will help ease her mind the next time she wakes; if she wakes. Those were the original members of her first family of Sunagakure… and they seemed millenia in the past, the village had grown so exponentially new shinobi were joining or coming forward to realign themselves with the new powers that be. Plus hadn’t she just had a promotion herself? Seemed the walls of Suna were growing and growing fast, she couldn’t help but relish in the thoughts of possible future endeavors her home would accomplish.

These thoughts continued to flow through her as she made her way to the site, her clothing more suited for the task ahead - comfortable work pants and black tank top tucked in and belted, her usual weapons pouches still attached at their spots on her thigh and hip accordingly, and her long hair was tied up in a messy bun. The thought of cutting it had crossed her mind several times lately… it was more cumbersome than it was worth and it was an easy weakness in close combat - yes she could easily cut it off if she was grabbed with it but did she want to allow that weakness to be exploited like that in the first place? No. Perhaps a change of appearance was in order, the Kimono she wore was something she loved but she wasn’t so sure she needed to cover her scars… she had even come to admire their presence - like earned stripes of some kind.

The Ragdoll stared down at a mission report he had received this morning with a barely concealed snarl on his face… to say that he was annoyed right now was an understatement… Mizuki had left the walls of Sunagakure on a mission, and while he did not believe she was in any danger he still wished that she had been accompanied by someone. Yes, he knew damn well that he was being irrational right now, and while that part of him was being berated by the logical part of him, that part was still winning the argument by a rather large margin… he trusted Mizuki, and he believed that she could handle anything the world would throw at her during this mission… but that didn’t mean that he wanted her to deal with it all alone. Now, that in no way meant that he never wanted her to do anything alone, he knew full well that she would get into very dangerous situations without anyone to back her up, that was a simple fact of the lives they had chosen. Her getting used to always having backup would only hinder her abilities in the long run, and he would never allow her to get used to that… but right now he was feeling irrational and he wanted her to hurry up and finish this mission so that she could return. Huh… wait a second… he was acting this way because he was missing her… well, that made a lot more sense now didn’t it.

With that sudden realisation The Reaper would stop glaring, and a small smirk would plaster itself upon his scarred face… now that he knew WHY he was feeling that way he could actually do something about it, namely, speed up the mission that Mizuki was on by eliminating absolutely everything that stood in her path. It was a very simple mission, get some steel from a nearby mine and return to the village with it, and really there were only a couple of mines near Suna that were still in commission, something he knew due to his position as Kazekage… and well, to make things even simpler for him, the mission request was signed from the closest of the five that still existed within Wind Country, only a few hours travel at a good speed. And let’s not forget his secret weapon in this scenario… Mayfly, and his ability to track chakra signatures globally… including Mizuki’s, which he was tracking right now, and was about to home in on with Mayfly. Honestly Mayfly was quite possibly his favourite technique, and he could seriously understand why both Valen and Hikari were so enamoured by the idea of Space-Time techniques… but in all honesty, that side of Ninjutsu was not one that interested him. Such forces were not things he wished to toy with, and that was amusing in and of itself… the one field of specialisation that The Ragdoll truly feared and avoided, and of all things it was due to the power that it could afford it’s wielders… heh, truly funny really.

Without any further hesitation Kenshin would activate his Mayfly and begin to actively travel towards his beloved, the speed at which he was travelling making the world almost appear to be a blur… far faster than he could usually achieve with Mayfly… an interesting fact actually, one that he had never truly used before. So, it seemed that using Mayfly to track someone and travel to their location made the process of travel much faster, likely due to the fact that the user already has their destination pinpointed for them and thus does not even have to think about the route or their movements… heh, what a fascinating thought. He would reach Mizuki’s current position in a matter on minutes, and for a few moments he would simply observe her with the rather unique sensory afforded by the technique he was using… he could ‘see’ her clearly, almost as though he was using his Byakugan, but it was nowhere near as precise, and he could certainly not make out the finer details of her or her clothing. Once he was satisfied, which in all honesty was only after a few minutes of such observation, the man began to move down the road and ahead of her at a decent speed, paying close attention to anything and anyone walking along it. There were a couple of merchant caravans, which were fine, and even a few miners that seemed to be making their ways back to the nearest towns, but so far nothing dangerous.

As he continued to travel towards the mines it became clear to him rather quickly that there was no true danger to be found anywhere along the ways… and to be fair, that made sense given that this was a pretty major road to a pretty important mine within the country, and that mine was a pretty major supplier to Sunagakure itself. To say that such a tag on the mine deterred those who would usually pray on it was a massive understatement, he had outright had entire Missing-Nin groups, Bandit Camps and wandering mercenary groups that were harassing those who supplied Suna, and he had staked their heads around those locations as a warning for a few months. Those heads were long gone now, but they had been there for long enough that all rogues within the country knew not to target those specific locations or people. It was honestly amusing… he had started to crack down quite heavily on those that attempted to do illegal acts within his country, or rather, those that attempted to break his rules within his country… those within this land were under his protection, and that meant that they were off limits. Rogues were still allowed, as were criminals of all types… they just had to make sure to that they obeyed the rules within this land if they wanted to continue to be allowed.

Kenshin would return to his position beneath Mizu, and from there he would simply travel directly beneath her to her destination, follow her as she completed her mission, wait until she left before doing the same things himself, which due to his mastery of Earth Release only took a couple of minutes, before returning to his position beneath her and following her back to Suna.

She had been so deep in thought as she made her way down the main road that she barely acknowledged the caravan of people - their heartbeats quickening only slightly as she raced by - or the soot covered miners who were dragging along at an exhausted pace. No she was far too involved in her own mind to truly note them… if they had made any movement toward her however… heh. The small wry smile pressed over her face as the tips of her fangs poked into her lower lip - perhaps she would have welcomed the intrusion into her path, it would save her hunting time later. Nevertheless though the cavern she was assigned to today was nearing her at its large rock face jutted out on the horizon and was nearing quickly with her given pace.

Only a minute or two more and she was slowing her pace as she swept under the protective mouth of the caves entrance and looked around … for… ah! The rack of pickaxes caught her attention lined up neatly on the wall - she grabbed one off the rack without permission and continued down into one of the less lit passages, her eyes making up for the semi darkness with ease. She walked through the winding tunnel for a few meters before coming to a section that hadn’t been touched yet - figuring to have the best luck there. Luckily her frame was smaller than those of the usual mine worker and her full swing could be accommodated in the smaller space. Thats all it took too - with her full speed and strength at her disposal she slammed the pickaxe into the wall and watched an crack the size of her forearm spread out in either direction of her hit. Taking a deep breath she pulled back and swung once more… that had done it, several chucks the size of her torso erupted from the spot and scattered around her form- and a few had the sure signs of the dusty grey iron ore running through them like veins.

Stooping down she grabbed some of the better veined chunks and placed them in various locations on her person - anywhere they would fit really having forgotten a bag before heading out for the day - and finally headed back out of the mine, dragging the pickaxe behind her and dropping it at the cave entrance in a discarding fashion. She dared anyone to stop and correct her… but the unappreciative glare she could feel on her back was confirmation enough that no one would dare do that to her. Mission done, she headed back to Suna, home, her thoughts wandering back to a new look she was going to implement as soon as she returned…
