guard duty
Wed Mar 17, 2021 3:55 pm
Mission
Another day another mission Travin thought getting up out of bed. He had drawn guard duty once more and was not really looking forward to it. The only positive was that he would have his new student with him. A good mission for him to gain experience and get used to how things are run, as well as how to work in a group of people that he was not too familiar with. plus with the chuunin exams going on over in Hoshi Travin knew that he would probably end up getting guard duty more than normal since most of the genin and chunin was all gone to the exam. He looked up walking out the house and it was the average day in Kiri slightly on the cooler side but not bad enough for a jacket. The mist was not too crazy today only slightly limiting vision mostly at a great distance. Plus the sun was out as well and lighting the mist up as well as the village.
Travin arrived at the gates for his duty a few minutes early walking over to the guard station by the gate he leaned up against the wall waiting for his student to arrive for the mission. While he stood there he thought about what he could do to make this a learning experience for him but was having some problems coming up with stuff. He decided that he would mostly focus on his ability to spot people and things. Otherwise, he would just have to wait and see what the day would bring for them. Once Nasu arrived Travin would lead him into the guard station to relieve the next two guards of their duty. Checking in while they checked out before taking their spots on the wall.

Nasu was pumped when he woke up. It was his first time getting guard duty. He’s glad he finally gets to do his part in the village and is slowly getting some more responsibilities. He also got to do it with Travin which meant he would get to learn things at the same time. He quickly got up and got ready by getting all his tools together. Nasu then left his house and started making his way to the station. As he was walking along the road he noticed a crowd of people standing and the bakery on his street. There was this new chocolate filled pastry out and Nasu managed to get his hands on two of them. He wanted to give one to Travin so he started to walk a bit faster so they could eat them before they got cold. Nasu was wondering, while walking to the station, what Travin would teach him. It's only guard duty so there wouldn't be too much. Not just that with people away at the exams the odds of something happening now were less than usual. Maybe one or two small crimes but nothing that Travin and Nasu would need to do. When Nasu was getting close he spotted Travin already there leaning against a wall just staring at the sky. “I wonder what he’s thinking about.” Nasu walked up to him and started to talk. “Hey master, how are you doing.” Nasu handed him the new pastry and Nasu could finally eat it. He didn't want to be rude so he waited to give one to Travin before he started eating. Nasu was enjoying the pastry so much that when Travin told him it was time to head in, Nasu didn't even know if Travin had eaten his pastry. Travin took Nasu inside and they relieved the other two guards at the time. Nasu and Travin both clocked in and then sat down and watched.

“I’m fine Nasu” Travin would tell his student while taking the offered pastry. “Thanks for the pastry lets get to it” he would add swallowing the pastry in a couple of bites as he turned and opened the door. Walking over Nasu would follow and they would sign their names on the sheet and head back out to the wall as the other two signed their names on the other side of the paper. Their job was fairly simple they just had to stand up on the wall above the gate and jump down all scary ninja-like if someone tried something, as well as keep an eye out on the road to make sure no one was going to be able to try something.
“Welcome to the possible the worse job you can get” Travin would tell Nasu as he propped his elbow on the wall and held his chin up looking out at the road. He actively tried not to end up with guard duty by having other duties that needed to be done. However, with the blasted chunin exams going on he was stuck having to pitch in with the others that had the same idea as he did. “I guess we can work on some stuff while we’re stuck here.” Travin would add a few seconds later trying to think of something to pass the time.
“I’ll tell you what I’ll name a color of something on one of the wagons or something that just may look suspicious and you figure out what it is” he would tell Nasu. assuming Nasu agreed Travin would take a good look around at the wagons currently in the gates and not really see anything of note but would pick something out anyway just to test him it would be an easy one to warm up with he decided. “Green” Travin would say after he had scanned the area. He would be talking about a massive green-colored barrel on the back of the third wagon in line. Once Nasu guessed correctly Travin would tell him to look down from the wall to the guard standing by the gate and point at the barrel and then tap the top of his head. It would tell the guard to check it.
Next Travin would call out black looking down the road little ways at a wagon rolling up to the village. It wooden like the rest with a white cover on it. However, through one of the windows as it made its turn Travin was able to pick out a few things that were unsettling. Four people were in the wagon and between them was a large black chest opened showing weapons they were in the middle of pulling weapons out of it and one reflected the light which is how Travin spotted it. He didn’t act alarmed or anything knowing that he had time before they made their way up to the gate, but he did keep his eye on it to make sure no one jumped out of the wagon.

"Wow is this job really that boring master." Nasu was just standing there looking onto the horizon as he had nothing better to do. There was a minute of silence that Travin then broke by proposing a little game to play. Travin wanted Nasu to look for things of the matching color that Travin said that were suspicious. That would be somewhat good training as Nasu doesn't really know what he should be looking for. Most of these wagon's didn't seem suspicious though. They were all practically the same thing. Old broken down wood wagons carrying whatever they could on them. "Green." Nasu completely forgot what was going on until he heard Travin say that.
Nasu started scanning the area not really seeing anything green that had any interest. The color green did stick out though a lot through the brightened mist. Nasu spotted the only green item he could see within any wagons. It was bright green so easy to see. Nasu then told Travin who then signaled a guard to give it a check. "Ha so all you have to do is tap your head and point to something and they will go check it. Good to know." After that they were on to the next item. Nasu had already seen what's in most wagons so this should be easy for him. “Black.” Nasu looked around again and then saw a wagon a bit ways back moving toward the gates. Nasu had a good look at the wagon and at one moment he could see through the window of it and spotted a black chest. There were a bunch of ninja tools in it and they were slowly taking their pick from it. “Is it the black box in the wagon over there master.” Travin said yes while paying close attention to the wagon. Nasu was also staring at it and activated his sharingan now just in case. With his sharingan he could see all four men in there. Nasu was hoping this might turn into a fight so he can test his new ability. He can now tell what people are doing a right as they do it. It's a low form of foresight but could be cool. Nasu makes a sign to the guard letting them know of a suspicious wagon with a possible threat. Nasu and Travin kept on following the wagon as it kept on getting closer and closer. By each inch it went forward Nasu could Travin staring more and more. Nasu was doing the same. The difference between Nasu and Travin though was that Travin did not look scared in the slightest. Nasu wasn't trembling or anything but had the chills as they got closer. Nasu started to think what would happen when they got to the front. Are they going to kill the guards and try to run into the village? Maybe get into the village and then start something. There were so many possibilities. When the cabin got to about 2 wagons until they were to be checked Nasu saw that they stopped splitting up weapons. They were all just sitting there. When they were one away Nasu noticed that one guy was moving. He couldn't see where the man was going exactly but he could see the mass of chakra close to the bottom center of the wagon. It seemed kind of weird unless there was a hole there to get out through. Nasu relayed all this information to Travin and then asked “What do we do now master?”

Travin was able to clearly see just what the other man was doing mostly through experience. He could tell the man was arming up and that there was more than likely going to be a fight, as such Travin started to prepare for the fight checking his weapon pouch and various items for looseness. “Get ready for the worse” Travin would tell Nasu as he kept watching. Once the wagon was up to the gate Travin dropped down from the wall behind the wagon where the four guys inside were unable to see him. From his fall he was given a good look through the window and saw all four men were heavily armed. Making sure Nasu wasn’t within range of his jutsu Travin made five hand signs Dog, Rabbit, Snake, Ox, Dragon. Then to anyone with chakra vision or the appropriate sensory abilities would be able to either see or feel the water particles coming out of Travins body and filling a 30-meter area. That was the main reason he had given Nasu the sign to wait for his signal before dropping down with him. Once the opponents were under his genjutsu they would not be able to see anything, but a thick mist blocking their vision that Travin would be able to manipulate, as well as reduce their ability to fight back. Two of the people in the wagon fell over unconscious as their chakra stats hit zero from the jutsu’s suppression. The other two managed to lazily climb out of the wagon with weapons drawn. Using his ability to manipulate the mist that the other two were seeing Travin positioned them under where Nasu would be dropping down from.
“Lay down your arms and this will go a lot better for you,” Travin told the two. When neither of them did what they were told Travin silently gave Nasu the sign to drop and take both of them out. Once he had done that Travin would tell Nasu to help him tie them up and they would be spending the rest of their day interrogating these four and filling out paperwork. It was the worse part of being a shinobi having to fill out paperwork. Part of him knew that it would be easier if they had killed them but then they would be swapping out some paperwork for bodies to deal with. Once Nasu agreed and they had the guys tied up Travin would introduce Nasu in the ways of interrogation.

"get ready for the worst what do you.." Travin had already jumped down. Nasu stuck with the instructions he was given and got ready for the worst. Nasu made sure all of his gear was fine and then started to watch. Travin made some hand signs that Nasu recognized. This was that genjutsu Travin used way back when. Nasu thought back to their training sessions. Nasu remembers seeing all the water particles come out from Travins arms when the jutsu started. Then they touch you and you're trapped. Without a release there's not really much you can do. The jutsu allows the user to confuse you with shadows. It also slows down your chakra and speed which can really screw with you. It had made most of Nasu’s jutsu weaker. Too weak that there was practically nothing he could do. Nasu put in a lot of effort back then but can't fully remember the day. It's a bit foggy for some reason. By the look Nasu got at the men though from before hand with his sharingan, Nasu knew 2 of them wouldn't even be able to stand after they got caught. And not to his surprise Nasu was right. Two men went right unconscious. Nasu also studied the jutsu. It's different from the outside. There was no mist. Nasu then knew that the mist is from the genjutsu in particular. Nasu saw as Travin slowly started to put his hand in the air. He showed the sign for a stand by. “Well I guess it's almost time.” Nasu watched as the other two people did not comply with Travin. Travin then threw his hand down signaling for Nasu to capture them. With no hesitation Nasu jumped right off and jumped right behind the two men. “Hey guys I hope your days are going well.” They both turned around but still couldn't see Nasu because of the genjutsu. Nasu just decided to smack their heads together and finish up the mission. After tying them both up Nasu remembered that it was time for the worst part of any mission. Some people think that dying is the worst part but sometimes there is just so much paperwork that you start to think twice about it. Nasu did the paperwork like always though and it didn't take him as long as normal. Nasu and Travin also had to bring the two men to an interrogation room. And that concluded Nasu and Travins guard duty.
