Desert Death Dining

Death Desert:

It had been several months since the Konoha contingent had made its way to the sandy dome of Sungakure. A group of several genin and a Kage darkened the tiered cliffs of the sand village. Now only Kai remained in the village, and in his hands, he held a mandatory summons to return to the leaf village. However, the Toad Apprentice also had a scroll from Sungakure assigning him a mission and he would not run away from his last duty. Kai had been very mindful of how he moved through the village since he got here, although they were invited and taken in they were still foreigners.

The dreaded Uchiha sat on his single military-style cot with a footlocker at the bottom of it and tapped one hand on his knee as he read the mission scroll. Several teams had been assigned to clear out the desert of death, it had been invaded by unwanted residents and had fallen into disrepair, and it would be needed for upcoming chunin exams. The desert itself was artificially created and is a large sand arena created for chunin exams long ago. However, in recent years it has fallen into disrepair from no use as well as from its current inhabitants, and vagrants have moved in and made it their home. Suna is due to hold chunin exams sometime in the future and will be looking to use this arena again.

The tall Uchiha set the scroll aside on his cot and made his way to the only other room in his apartment, the bathroom, and began to shower. After a few minutes, Kaibuku returned to the large room that acted as a bedroom, kitchen, dining, and living room. Kai began to take all of his clothes and equipment out of their various storage places and started packing his bags. He would not spend another night in this village. Kai retired his dreads into a formation over the back of his neck so that they were not in the way of his vision.

Kai left out his usual shinobi outfit to dress in but packed up all his other belongings, except the few things he had bought for the apartment to get by, such as pots and pans. The young Uchiha wrapped compression bandages around his ankles and arms, the wraps were sufficiently tight around his muscles to help with their use as well as help any impact upon them. Then, Kai grabbed the Suna shinobi I.D. badge he received on his first day in the village and hung it around his neck. Next Kai put on his undershirt & leg coverings of protective mesh. The Kai selected a pair of long, black shorts that reached down to just below his knees, which the mesh then appeared out of. Next Kai put on his v-neck, black shirt, and his black boots. Moving on, Kai then put on his shin guards that attached to his boots and arm guards that covered his wrists and lower arms. Finally, the toad apprentice selected his maroon sash that wrapped around his waist and rested just above his knees, the village symbol was displayed on the part of the sash that hung down towards his knees. Kai then positioned the I.D. badge on the outside of his clothing so it was obvious to anyone in front of him that he was a welcomed guest and his Konoha symbol that was displayed on his lower half did not get him in any unwanted trouble.

The toad apprentice, who was now fully dressed move to sorting out his equipment for the coming mission as well as the journey home. Kai grabbed his ninja pouch and holster and loaded them up with his equipment, 5 kunai, 5 shuriken, 6 smoke bombs, 2 paper bombs. a notepad, and a water bottle for drinking. Due to the hemisphere and the climate they were currently in he needed to stay hydrated. The holster was strapped to Kai's right thigh facing away from his person. Inside the holster were all the shuriken and kunai. The smoke bombs were for concealing movement as well as triggering certain genjutsu within Kai's arsenal. Finally, there were paper bombs that could be attached to kunai and thrown or placed on the ground and exploded when needed.

Now with all his bags packed and his clothes and equipment on Kai left the room. Kai made his way through the village stopping to get some breakfast from his favorite spot in the village, once again for the last time. Kai stopped by a place that was called Sal's sarnies and got a breakfast burrito with a strawberry protein milk drink. His meal was not ideal for a day of what he perceived to be intense work but it was half right. He took an hour to fully enjoy his meal and talk to some of the local businessmen he had got to know. After that, he visited the old man who he had been helping out since one of his first missions. He informed him that he would no longer be able to help out but would write him when he got the chance. 

With all those tasks complete Kai was now ready to take on his mission, his chores and errands complete. Kai approached the gate guard, allowing his shinobi I.D. badge to be seen on the front of his clothing and hung around his neck. By now the rotation of gate guards had gotten used to him and no longer really troubled him, just in time for him to leave the village. However, if the alliance the two villages had forged would continue under the new Konoha leadership he was sure that he would be back one day. Perhaps for the upcoming chunin exams or even for another training camp.

The dreaded Uchiha moved through the gates of the village and headed through the external training grounds until he reached the arena known as the Desert of Death. The arena spanned many miles and was gated off by a huge chainlink fence, although the inside of the arena was a desert and was mostly natural it was still in a defined area, which was where the chainlink fence came from from, which was 10m in height. The first thing that the Uchiha noticed was that the entrance gates had been destroyed. The gate itself which was also made of chainlink had been cut off of its hinges and was laid on the floor several meters further into the arena. Clearly, someone had made their way in and made this place their home afterward, or directly causing this. This action had also allowed the vagrants to enter the arena as it was not locked off nor guarded.

Kai carefully made his way into the smashed gate, other debris lay around just inside that looked like tents and other temporary shelters that would have been used as housing for the staff of the chunin exams. Kai brought out a notepad he had packed earlier and started to make notes within it. - Gate destroyed - Temporary shelter unusable. Kai made his way into the tents and checked that they were indeed empty, which they were. They were various scattered debris within the tents, turned over tables, chairs, paperwork, and empty crates. All of which had either been ransacked by the vagrant invaders or emptied in a hurry by the staff when this place was abandoned. Everything that was left here now had no use to the people that had moved into the Desert of Death, so they had left it here, and moved on further into the arena, after all in they were going to occupy this place, but try to be discreet and also make sure they are not bothered there would be no point in staying at the entrance where they would ve discovered immediately and removed. If they were to hide or move deeper in then at least some effort would have to be made to remove them, which would not be beneficial for Suna, this had proved a sensible idea as they had been left alone for many years, now only being cleaned out due to an upcoming event that would use this arena.

The Toad Apprentice made his way out from the tents and encountered his first inhabitants of the Desert of Death. Kai stopped in his tracks as he exited the tent and saw the individual in front of him. A giant of a man stood 25m in front of him, Kai recognized he was almost 7ft tall and probably weighed about 400lbs. He was dressed in ragged clothes and looked like a typical bandit, the man was armed with a giant club that he had hefted over one of his shoulders. His face was covered by a headscarf, but his eyes were on show, The Uchiha pushed chakra through his system and his eyes flashed a deep red and 3 tomoe appeared around his eyes with a black line settling underneath the tomoe almost like it was holding them in place.

With the enhanced vision of the Sharingan third stage now active Kai could see things a lot clearer, he could now see the chakra signal from the man as well as see the malice in his eyes. A fraction of a second before the man moved the Sharingan allowed Kai to see the windup in the man's motion and Kai was about to open his mouth to try and dissuade the man from his next action but he was already barreling towards him. Kai saw each step just before it happened, he knew the man was charging at him with ill intent, not that being charged was ever going to be positive.

The Toad Apprentice began to form handseals to produce a jutsu to defend himself. Firstly, he brought his left and right hand together, his left hand was underneath and the palm was outstretched and facing upward toward the sky. Next, Kai brought his right hand over the top of the left hand and paralleled its stance, yet facing downward toward the ground, the hands were interlocked with each other. The thumb of each hand interlacing between the pinky and ring finger of the opposite hand. With this the monkey handseal was complete and he moved on to the second handseal. Next, Kai folded the pinky and ring finger of his right hand and allowed the middle and index finger to point to the sky. Kai curled his left hand around the extended fingers of his right hand, completing the rat handseal. Next, The Uchiha folded his pinky and ring finger of his right hand while extending the thumb, middle and index finger up to the sky. Kai then allowed his left hand to sit just above that of the right hand and all of the fingers were extended up to the sky, he folded over his ring and pinky finger to sit upon the knuckles of the opposing hand. The thumb, index, and middle fingers were slightly above those of the opposing hand, and with that the ram handseal was complete. Finally, Kai extended and brought both hands together paralleled, his thumbs and his palms facing each other. Extending his fore and middle fingers upwards on both hands, once again parallel to each other. The Toad Apprentice folded his index and pinky fingers over and through the gaps of the opposing fingers so that they were clasped across the opposing hand, with that the tiger handseal was complete, as well as all the handseals for this technique.

Kai then took a step forward and lowered himself into a fighting position, lead foot forward, rear foot on the ball of his feet, hips facing towards his opponent, one arm tucked by his body and the other extended before him with his fingers crinked in towards his palm. The Uchiha then pulled the fingers inward to form a fist. 5m in front of him, and at this point 5m in front of the charging opponent, a 3m wide and long square started to form on the floor, in the top left and bottom right corner of the box an Uchiha symbol was stamped, and in the top right and bottom left a Mount Myõboku symbol was stamped. Kai then twisted his wrist and his hand switched 90 degrees to his left at which point the lines of the box had finished forming together and an error appeared in the box, it was facing directly away from the Uchiha and toward the charging mountainous bandit. As the man stepped on top of the stylized plate is activated, a fierce glowing light began to glow from the arrow and the man floated upward a few inches and suspended there for a single second before being flung backward toward his original position.

As his opponent stepped on top of the Vector Plate Kai launched into his follow-up attack, the first one was meant to create distance between him and his attacker. Now he would work on a jutsu to finish the fight. Without wasting any movement or time he began to form handseals again. Even as the attacker still;l flew through the air backward 20m.

Kai began handseals he brought both hands together paralleled, his thumbs and his palms facing each other. Extending his fore and middle fingers so they were upwards pointing on both hands, once again parallel with the opposing hand. The Uchiha folded his index and pinky fingers over and through the gaps of the opposing fingers so that they were clasped across the opposing hand, with that the first tiger handseal was complete. The Toad Apprentice then folded his pinky and ring finger of his right hand while extending the thumb, middle and index finger up to the sky. Kai then allowed his left hand to sit just above that of the right hand and all of the fingers were extended up to the sky, he folded over his ring and pinky finger to sit upon the knuckles of the opposing hand. The thumb, middle, and index fingers were above those of the opposing hand just slightly, and with that the ram handseal was complete. The Dreaded Uchiha gripped his left hand inward and folded his fingers underneath his palm and into a fist. Kai then moved his right hand over the top of it pointing towards the bottom of his wrist and completely flat, including the thumb. He then repeated those three handseals again in order, performing six handseals in total.

By the time Kai had completed these handseals, the Giant of a man who opposed him had landed on the floor with a huge crash and recovered his wits enough to begin charging again, still not interested in talking apparently. Kai activated his jutsu at this point as the man began to close in again, now at 15m away from him. Feathers of pure white began to fall around the pair at a range of 20m, the man instantly;y as he saw the first feather stopped his run and looked around in a state of confusion. He had seemed to forget why he was doing what he was in the middle of doing, Kai of course knew this was a part f the genjutsu he had just cast. A few seconds later the man yawned as he began to feel tired looking at the floating feathers of pure white. They would be beautiful if they didn't signal the demise of the man. If the man had continued to charge and be resistant to the calming effect of the jutsu he would have found his movements sluggish, which would have given Kai more time to move onto a different jutsu,m but it appeared that this one would do just fine.

Kai clapped his hands together to activate the third and final stage of the genjutsu, which caused the man to instantly fall asleep. He was still on his feet as the genjutsu force his brain into a deep dark sleep. This sleep would last for several days unless forcibly stopped by a counter genjutsu, or by Kai stopping it himself. Kai moved forward as the mountain man dropped from his feet to the ground, once again creating a massive crash. Kai rummaged around the man's pack and found a couple of lengths of rope which he used to hogtie the man's legs and arms together. Kai was confident in his jutsu but just in case the man somehow forcibly woke himself up he would probably not be able to escape. Kai then made several more handseals and slammed his palm down onto the ground beneath him, a 1m wide fuin seal appeared, and a second later a gigantic 40m toad appeared next o him, he had summoned Fukuken, the toad warrior. "Hey there pal, I need your help in hauling this big guy, would you lend me a hand?" Kai shouted upward towards the giant toad. The toad turned to him in a cumbersome manner "Of course, for the next toad sage." Kai smiled at the man but inwardly felt quite self-conscious about the title and the reverence some of the Mount Myõboku toads put in him, just because he had the chance of becoming the next toad sage. He was still anxious about being chosen and did not know if he could live up to some of the expectations they had of him, especially the more faithful among the sage sect.

Kai and Fukuken made their way back to the village with the bandit in tow, Kai could not continue to search the arena with a vagrant of this power in confinement so decided he would return to the village and report what he had found out so far. They made it back to the admin building and Kai handed over the man for interrogation, he was then paid and headed back towards his apartment to collect his bags and then headed towards the village gates.
