Task: The village's dog shelter has become quite dirty recently. Take a small pack of dogs out for a long walk around the village so that their cages can be cleaned.

Eternity and Snow had gone to the market to see what kinds of stuff they had in stock. One of them was really after weaponry, because she thought maybe she ought to try out other weapons instead of sticking to her dagger all the time. Sadly, she didn’t make very much out of the trip. She’d gotten put off by just how expensive weapons were, even the low quality ones. It was enough to make her think about stealing one, though she didn’t know how she could possibly do that and also have time to test how it felt in her hands. When she’d gotten her dagger the salesman had helped her get one that was perfect for her and as far as she could tell they’d done a good job.

She was lost in thought contemplating her idea when she heard a lot of loud dogs barking which was very unusual. She knew what a dog sounded like but this sounded like a lot more. “Is there a group of dogs fighting? I hope nobody’s getting hurt,” she thought. “At the very least it seems to be distracting people so maybe I can find a nice bit of coin.” She then pushed her way through the traffic and saw someone trying to hold back four dogs at once. They were all on leashes but they were so intent on barking at something that they were dragging their owner down the road.

“What in the…” Eternity said aloud and Snow turned her head. She followed where the dogs were barking and her eyes landed on a cat. One cat who was minding its own business atop a pile of crates. It looked on edge and flicked its tail as it stared at the dogs who quickly started clawing at the crates, though there was no way they could possibly climb them.

It was up to the citizens to help fix this mess. Snow and Eternity along with a handful of other people ran over and helped the owner up and helped grab hold of the leashes. Their strength was no match for that of a large combat dog but with some help they were able to pull the dogs away, out of sight of the cat.  

The owner turned out not to really be the owner of the dogs after all. He said, “I was hired to walk them while people did some construction in their yard. Nobody told me that they weren’t well trained. Thank you all for your help.”

The living clones didn’t want any other poor cats to get hassled so they helped take the dogs back to their home. It was her first time being this close to dogs and she was definitely not a fan. They smelled and they seemed to think they were in charge half the time. Judging by how little her pulls and tugs affected the dogs she realized that she never wanted to own one. On several occasions she had to shout for help so that someone could grab a hold and help her get the dog back onto the path.

Eternity and Snow couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to the cat. Had it even budged from atop those crates? They circled back around to where all the commotion had taken place and couldn’t see the cat anywhere. “Great,” Snow thought. She didn’t know why she wanted to find the cat. Something inside of her told her that she ought to take care of it or at least make sure it wasn’t injured. It was a strange feeling because she didn’t own any cats nor had she ever in the past. She never considered having one when she was growing up because she kept moving around and her guardians were very anti-pet but now that she was on her own the idea appealed to her.

“Where would I even get a cat,” She wondered as she walked around the market some more. She patrolled the streets to see if there were any stray cats that she might be able to take home with her. She wasn’t far sighted enough to think about how she would even feed or take care of one. She was under the impression that cats took care of themselves and mostly lived outside anyways.

Finding a cat proved to be a lot harder than she thought. She patrolled up and down the streets of the market and didn’t find anyone selling pets or any stray cats. She tried to listen for the sounds of meows but it was hard to make out any specific sound when there was so much noise in the market. “Why is it always that I can’t find anything when I actually look for it but I’ll see a whole bunch of them when I’m in a rush,” she thought when she grew frustrated. She walked up and down some side streets as well all while listening and looking for cats but, in the end, she gave up trying to find a cat on her own.

“I wonder if the library has anything about taking care of pets,” She thought as she came to the end of the market area. “then again, how hard could it be to take care of a cat?” she yawned and thought of how tired she was. She took a seat on a bench and rested her legs. “how do guards do this all day? I only walked down a few streets and I’m this tired. I can’t imagine doing all that while wearing armor and weaponry. Heavens, if I had to run in all that I’d probably die in the heat.” Upon that realization she took a moment to enjoy the weather. She was so happy that the sweltering heat of the summer was gone and the trees were beginning to turn. “Got to enjoy it while it lasts. Before long it’ll be too cold to enjoy being outdoors.”  

Eternity and Snow were going to go home next but then one of them remembered something. There was supposed to be a poster mission but they hadn’t gotten hardly any interest. They’d come up with the idea of doing some advertising and they had committed to help. They wished she hadn’t since was still tired but she still hurried to the bar where they were supposed to meet up at.

Pick a neighborhood and clean up what posters and flyers no longer belong.

“I thought you’d never come!” said Erna, the aspiring cosmetologist who needed help with all of the ads.

“Sorry, there were these crazy dogs and then I got distracted by cats. I totally lost track of time,” Eternity said. Snow nodded and said, “yeah, you’re lucky we showed up at all to be honest.”

“Sounds like quite the start to the day. I’ve got the husband putting up fliers that way and I thought you would join me going this way. There’s not that many left.” Erna handed over a stack of papers and she pulled the living clones down the street.

“I feel bad that I got here so late, you’re almost done with all the work,” Eternity said as she handed papers to Erna who nailed them next to other fliers. Snow was more occupied with looking for better spots to hang the fliers.

“It’s no trouble. I didn’t really need the help, I just like the company. You know how Greg gets, he likes to work alone and gets agitated when I nag him.”

“Oh, yeah that makes a lot of sense. Hey, do you happen to know where I could buy a cat? It only just occurred to me today that I wouldn’t mind having a pet.” Eternity said as they squeezed through the busy streets.

“A cat? Why would you buy one? Just find someone with a fresh litter. Most people are happy to give kittens away.” Erna wiped sweat from her brow and nailed up a few more fliers at the next spot.

“I just don’t know where to look. I looked for strays but couldn’t find any and now that I think about it, I’m not sure if I could even catch one if I tried,” Eternity sighed. “but okay maybe I’ll ask around and see if I can find someone with a new litter.”

“You know, Merci owns quite a few cats. You ought to ask her if she has one you can have,” Erna suggested.

Eternity was about to go off on how much she hated Merci but she held her tongue because she remembered that Erna was friends with her. She said, “oh, good idea,” and then dropped the cat talk.

The two of them finished hanging up fliers and Eternity was finally free to whatever she wanted with the rest of the day. She spent most of the afternoon brooding about Merci and whether or not to ask her for a cat. She felt like it would be easy to simply go steal one, but she doubted she would be able keep a living creature hidden for long. A cat wasn’t something she could steal and shove under her mattress, at least not if she wanted it to live. In the end, Eternity wasn’t willing to swallow her pride. She was determined not to ask Merci for any sort of help so long as she could help it. In fact, she was happy to have no cat if it meant not having to owe Merci any favors.
