Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Sat Jun 10, 2023 12:11 pm
Quinn rose early that morning to take on the stoking of the flames. Their family's shop wasn't the biggest in the village or even the most prominent but that wasn't going to stop Quinn from waking up early in the morning to get going on making that a change. The sun had not broke the horizon at the hour they awoken. The color of dusk lingered overhead as Quinn poked their head onto the quiet morning street in Otogakure. Stretching publicly, Quinn's thoughts never wandered far from the direction of action for them. The morning routine was standard, wake up, get dressed, start the fires, feed the fires, settle the fires into their kilns, and proceed to produce based on what was tasked out and ordered. Today felt different to Quinn though, they couldn't put their finger on it but they shrugged it off and proceeded to continue the setup as their parents had moved out of the family home to live with others.

Alone. Quinn had been alone for a few years now. Growing up they didn't dedicate a lot of time to any one particular profession like the rest of the family. The fact that the family left the business into their hands was a surprise to them. Their brother was helping with construction and another had taken to some other means of supporting their own family now. Quinn was handling what was left. A few busted kilns remained with some base materials but nothing substantial compared to some of the more up and coming shops that were setting up shop. The days prior saw a shift in the village's economy and as such, businesses were moving with the times. By the time Quinn finished up their proceedings of the morning, all that was left was to open the forge space to be visible. No one questions too hard if the shop is in business if the forges were lit and the sound of metal could be heard.

Sound. Quinn listened well as the sun slowly rose up from the edge of the floating village in the Land of Sky. The morning melodies of birds and the waking up animas filled the world around them as they finished their routine. Stepping outside with the morning light filling the roads like water in a flowing river, Quinn stared at the dilapidated sign that hung over head. 'First Sun Forge' was written and slowly faded from the many days standing proud and tall against the skyline. The board itself had seen better weather and wear on it shined against the other stops that dotted the surrounding area. Sighing, Quinn got a step ladder from within and set it against the wall before grabbing some tools. "Out. In. Doesn't matter now. I'm left in charge. I choose the name."

Their voice rang out rhythmically as if they had began to clang metal within the forge below. Taking down the shop's sign that had stood for decades in this once quaint village, Quinn set it down gently before pulling out a fresh sheet of plywood to fasten in its place. The wood stood clean against what was a heavily worn shop. The old sign found a new home hung on the back wall of the forge, visible to anyone who walked past and looked int to see what was going on. Quinn stared at the plywood as a small gathering formed of their neighbors. Some chattered with Quinn who was focused to the task and answered briefly on. "What is going on?" "New Sign." "What are you doing?" "Thinking of name." "Did something happen to your parents?" "No."

Short, strong, resilient answers were staccato'd out by Quinn, who's focus remained on the blank plywood before going inside and grabbing a can of paint. Filigree and finesses was not one of their strong suits but they did have a love for their family, respect for their elders, forefathers and ancestors. Grabbing a brush, they took to the ladder and plainly wrote on the wood above their family's long time store. 'Same Family, Same Forge. Welcome to Fosters' Forge.' Nodding in the tagline they produced in their head, Quinn packed up the ladder and paint before thanking the small neighbors who gathered for their continued support of the family and the forge they ran. It was a trying time with new things happening and some business was likely to fail. Quinn saw this as a chance to reforge the family's heritage and temper it with these changes to strength it to something stronger. As a sign that business was open, Quinn took their smithing hammer and rang it against the anvil, the sound it produced?

Euphonic.

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Sat Jun 10, 2023 5:52 pm
The morning light began to peak its way over the horizon, the light filling the room with haste. The Sarutobi found himself slowly waking to the light as it demanded answer from the young man. With an outstretched hand placed between his eyes and the window, Satoshi would shift his weight, the hanging hammock that he was resting on shifting and allowing him to land on his feet on the floor below. Getting dressed, he would put on his typical outfit consisting of a short sleeve black shirt with an odd brand logo on the left of his chest overtop a long-sleeve white shirt. His blue pants were fitting, not loose but not overly tight either. Around his neck would be an orange bandana, an accessory piece that he just simply liked.

A quick stretch of his limbs would be in order before he truly started the day, and before long he would find himself limbered up and stepping outside. Planted in his clan's garden were various fruit bearing trees, and so the young man would pick a nice ripe couple of bananas off of the bunch and begin to eat them for breakfast as he walked through the small orchard and towards the town proper.

Once he had made it to the main streets, Satoshi couldn't help but stand in awe at the spectacle that was standing before him. The village of Otogakure, of which was no doubt quite a site since it was floating mid-air, a marvel of the ninja arts if he had ever seen one. The Sarutobi knew that the founding of this village meant a lot of work, but that wasn't anything that he was adverse to. One of his first tasks was to ensure that there were enough weapons for the training facilities to ensure that those learning the shinobi arts in their new village had all the tools needed to excel. More specifically, these practice weapons needed to be made out of metal with the edges dulled to not be able to cause major harm during practice. One could simply use wooden practice swords, but the weigh was different and he felt that if they were willing to undertake the training of a shinobi force here, they were going to do it right. Those of the Sarutobi clan were never without a weapon thanks to their bond with the Weapon Monkeys, but other clans weren't all blessed with such.

So he was looking for a smith to fulfil this order, and so the young man made his way down towards the shopping district. Perhaps it was just dumb luck or maybe it was fate itself ensuring the Sarutobi's success, but he would very quickly find himself stumbling across a place called Fosters' Forge, the ringing of the hammer falls able to clearly be heard from the street.

With a smile on his face, he would open the door and walk inside with a hope to forge a business deal with the owner.

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Sun Jun 11, 2023 10:30 am
Within the tranquil embrace of Otogakure, Guren found solace amidst the floating islands within the Land of Sky. Reflecting on his past and contemplating the future, he stood atop one of the highest spires, overlooking the vibrant village he had helped create. This was a moment of deep introspection for Guren as he considered his role in the new era and his transition from village leader to the commander of the Sound Force Five. Guren's hand in the creation of Otogakure had been a testament to his unwavering belief in unity and progress among shinobi. Now, as he witnessed the village's growth and flourishing community, he couldn't help but feel a sense of fulfillment mixed with a tinge of nostalgia. His time as the Kazekage had shaped him into the leader he was today, but he knew that a new chapter awaited him—one that required a different approach and mindset. And as much as that was true for himself, the same was true for Kaito. How would the former jounin adapt to being in leadership? How would he rule? These questions trickled through the Third's mind as he breathed in the fresh air from the peak he stood upon.

But the Chinoike was nonger burdened with the responsibilities of governing a village, allowing himself to embrace his new role as the commander of the Sound Force Five. The group, though currently devoid of members, represented a chance for him to build a team of exceptional shinobi who would bring harmony, strength, and progress to Otogakure. It was a role that demanded equal parts guidance and inspiration, fostering an environment where the individual talents of each member would coalesce into a force greater than the sum of its parts. And so as Guren contemplated the future of the Sound Force Five, he began to also acknowledge the need for a shift in his own demeanor. He understood that his role was no longer about making decisions that impacted an entire village but rather about leading by example, empowering his team, and nurturing their potential. Perhaps this could mean putting the history of his kageship in the rear view mirror, as that type of accolade likely meant nothing to the new villagers here. And if it did, then having that sort of attention could end up taking it away from the rightful Otokage. This required a delicate balance of humility, adaptability, and unwavering determination.

With the vast skies stretching out before him, Guren resolved to embark on a quest to recruit the most promising individuals for the Sound Force Five. He sought those with not only exceptional skills but also a shared vision of unity and progress. He would seek out shinobi who, like himself, were unafraid to push boundaries, challenge the status quo, and strive for a better future. Though he realistically understood that it would take time to develop the Sound Village's own shinobi to that point, and also to find potential outsiders in vagabonds and missing ninja that may want a new home in the Land of Sky. In the tranquil serenity of Otogakure, Guren reveled in the beauty of the village he had helped create from his bird's eye perspective. Though true that the Sound Force Five stood as a testament to his aspirations and ideals, Otogakure itself was more of a beacon of hope amidst the former chaos in his life. As the winds whispered tales of innovation and ingenuity, Guren prepared to step into his new role with unwavering determination, ready to shape the Sound Force Five into a force that would safeguard the harmony and prosperity of Otogakure. But the first step he needed to take, was to descend from the peak and do a bit of exploration within the village. Since his arrival, all of his time had been dedicated to politics, establishing infrastructure, and organizing construction of the village's design. But he had been unable to truly delve into learning about the citizens themselves. And what better place to start than the market?

At a leisurely pace, it took nearly an hour to descend from the mountain he stood upon and to make his way into the Market Square. Even though it had been newly created, it still showed signs of hustle and bustle. Yet amidst that commotion, the Third's eyesight locked in on the frame of a familiar figure about 30 meters down the street from him. One of Satoshi Sarutobi. He had been the first native that Guren met since his arrival in the Land of Sky, and through negotiation he was instrumental in the creation of Otogakure. So much so, that he had been nominated as Deputy Kage. His prominence spoke for itself, and the Chinoike was rather keen on getting to know him a bit further. Therefore Guren would follow the Sarutobi's pathway, with the tails of his yukata blowing gracefully in the wind behind him. Underneath it, he wore his type pinstriped shinobi fatigues which he admittedly began to grow tired of. Perhaps it was time to change his attire, and look for something that may be more fitting for the Commander of the Sound Force Five? And as fortune would have it, Satoshi would be making his way to a forge. Guren was more so accustomed to outfitting himself with the work of tailors, though perhaps a set of armor would be better suited for his new role.

In any case, Guren would make his way over towards the Forge, trailing some minutes behind Satoshi. But before he'd proceed inside, he'd take in the craftsmanship shown on the freshly painted sign above the store's entrance. Clear signs that there was some sort of renovation, which Guren sought to take some time to admire before meeting the store's staff and intruding on Satoshi's visit.

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Sun Jun 11, 2023 11:05 am
Quinn's day had begun swiftly as some small things needed to be repaired around the place. The front counter had seen better days and even with Quinn's younger extended family being present to help as giving a job for those who have the knack to potentially maintain further beyond Quinn was important to the family at large. A young teenager sat on top a precariously made stool of metal and adjourned with what looked like a pillow of some kind. In the background the rhythmic clang of metal was matched with the hiss of steam from the forge in an adjourning room to the front of the store. The heat radiated from behind the teen whom looking at the individual who came in gawked for a moment. The boy greeted Satoshi introducing him to the store rather than himself, "Welcome to First Su- I mean Fosters' Forge. I'm tending the front for my aunt who's in charge. They recently took over from my grandparents and has been making adjustments to the forge. If you are here for an order I can look it up and see if it is complete."

Quinn sighed wiping tongs against their leather apron and streaked soot across their forehead from using their arm as a towel. Wearing a black long sleeved shirt while forging, Quinn walked to a window in the back seeing the day had started to escape them. In their mind, Quinn's nephew should be in the front to help direct people as needed. Small shifts in business were expected but the hope was with the new name and working towards rebuilding and fixing up the old shop to accommodate the changing times, that the Fosters as a family would see better days than prior. Finishing up the task, a new stool. "New stool for the boy." Quinn stated before letting it cool properly and took it out to the front when they heard the boy stumble his words.

Shaking their head as they push a curtain out of the way releasing a wave of heat into the small storefront, Quinn stepped into the space with a new stool in hand, soot covered face and smeared leather apron. A holster on their hip had a cross peen hammer resting with some love and care given to the well worn tool. Staring at the two men who entered, Quinn gave a pat on the boys back before addressing the men. "Hello. Quinn Foster. Upcoming Forgemaster. Business Owner." In their eyes this was unusual. Most customers that were encountered were definitely normal everyday people, Satoshi and Guren walking in had a presence about them, determination and confidence is what Quinn determined from a snap assessment. The boy being the shortest in the room, saw the stool and nodded to Quinn before taking the old stool towards the back, likely to be melted down for reuse or some other project in the future leaving the room to the men and Quinn.

Stepping behind the counter fully, they put down the new stool before pulling out a ledger from under the counter. "New order? Picking Up?" Quinn asked looking at Satoshi primarily as it appeared to them that Guren was second to arrive and left the younger of the two to proceed with his task before possibly looking for his own purposes. Quinn then began to open the ledger and pull out some ink as they pulled off their working gloves and left them unceremoniously on the counter in front of the two. Flipping through archaic ancient records of the family's long-term business it was sparce from page to page. They maintained to keep the business going though it wasn't till the newer pages that they began to be more filled, with the most recent page half filled before Quinn marked a line on the bottom of it before flipping to the next page to record new information. At the top 'Fosters' Forge' was quickly sprawled by Quinn signifying a new fresh chapter in the ledger's long history.

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Mon Jun 12, 2023 3:05 pm
Satoshi couldn’t help but feel the ambient heat from the forge, the temperature in this place a few degrees noticeably hotter than outside had been. The young boy at the counter had welcomed him, though he stumbled a bit on his words. No doubt a simple slip of the tongue as the sign outside had looked brand new and completely untouched by the elements, a stark contrast to the rest of the building. A new name due to new management? No doubt this Aunt of his wished to make this forge into something of her own, and not just the handed down legacy of their family.

“Thank you, but I do not have an order in as of yet. I am just looking to reach out to local smiths with a proposition. You needn’t worry about me, I’m content to wait a bit for when they have a moment.” The Sarutobi couldn’t help but feel a familiar presence nearby. Just as he looked behind, he could see the figure of Guren standing there, the man’s presence truly commanding of awe. Satoshi held a deep respect for the man, for if it wasn’t for his guidance and assistance, the very village that they were standing in would not count itself among the other Hidden Villages.

“Always a pleasure,” He would offer with a knowing nod to the man. The young Sarutobi was nearly about to ask a question of his friend before a new presence was made known to him, the heat leaking from the opening of the portal between this room and what had to be the forge. A young lady with a dark smudge on her face and wielding what looked to be a stool was now seen. She offered the stool to the child that first greeted him, which no doubt was an improvement from the rough looking seat currently used. Knowingly, they would just take the old seat to the back and leave the adults to talk.

“It is very nice to meet you, Quinn Foster.” Satoshi would offer with a partial bow, his head and torso alone dipping ever so slightly in elevation. Not very formal, but hopefully the forge master wouldn’t be offended by such. When asked why he was here, the Sarutobi would answer to the best of his ability.

“I need to discuss some things before an official order is placed. Do you have a moment to spare?” He would ask, his tone carrying nothing other than a curious note as the young man pondered whether or not this forge would be willing to assist him with his needs.

Should she agree to a discussion, Satoshi would thank her and begin. “I am here on official business on the behalf of our Lord Otokage. It is my duty to reach out the local forges in hopes that one would assist our newly formed village of Otogakure with the forging of training implements.” Satoshi would pause briefly, not only to give them a moment to consider but also himself one to think on how best to phrase this next part. “As a newly formed village, our current budget is… far tighter than I would prefer. I am looking to get an idea of what it would cost to supply our new shinobi academy with blunted training swords. I would need… say fifty or so? I imagine that would cover our immediate needs along with having some in reserve for when the children no doubt strain the weapon to the point at which it breaks. How much would such an order cost?” Despite his shinobi training, currently his efforts were in the logistics of making sure Otogakure ran smoothly, along with efforts in public relations to ensure the clans that made up the village we appeased.

The Sarutobi were doing their part, the clan more than capable of growing foods. The Sarutobi clan house was surrounded by an orchard, of which various fruits were being grown to ensure the village was supplied with food. There were also farms on the ground underneath the floating village that provided vegetables, grains, and meats. Unfortunately, while the Sarutobi were a skilled bunch, they had never had the need to forge a weapon and this particular matter was not something they had the skillset to resolve.

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Thu Jun 15, 2023 6:28 am
Guren observed the interaction between Satoshi and the forge master, Quinn Foster, from a distance. As the Sarutobi clan member spoke, Guren couldn't help but admire the young man's diplomacy and respectful demeanor. Satoshi had shown great potential and dedication to the village, with his new mantle of Deputy Kage seemingly guiding him towards a direction of becoming an even greater man.

Guren's own presence inadvertently emanated a sense of authority and wisdom, a testament to his experience as a prominent figure in his previous and current Hidden Village. And so when Guren had approached the shop's front close enough to enter the building, Satoshi would acknowledge The Third with a simple nod, recognizing the contributions he had made to the village's establishment and growth. Guren returned the nod with a warm smile, acknowledging Satoshi's respectful greeting and his dedication and sacrifice to serve not only Otogakure, but the Land of Sky, his homeland.

The building, this Foster's Forge, itself gave of a rustic charm. No doubt it predated the creation of Otogakure, and there was likely some years of rich history that had taken place in this very building. As the conversation between Guren and Satoshi started to continue, a young lady, presumably an employee at the forge, appeared with a stool in hand. She seemed to be relieving the otherwise timid boy who fumbled through his greeting towards Satoshi. Though green, the boy himself seemed to understand the basics of customer service, which began with a warm welcome. Admittedly he needed some practice, but the demeanor from his Aunt was much more refined and seasoned.

In response Satoshi introduced himself as a representative of their Lord Otokage and explained his purpose for visiting the forge. Guren listened intently and queitly, his keen mind agreeing with the significance of forging training implements for their newly formed village. He knew that a well-equipped shinobi academy was vital for the development and protection of Otogakure. And to Guren, investing into the village's future was always a top priority. Satoshi delicately broached the topic of the village's tight budget, acknowledging the financial constraints they faced. Guren admired his honesty and pragmatism in seeking cost-effective solutions for their needs. He knew that building relationships with local businesses was crucial to fostering a prosperous village, and what better place than to start with a forge? The Chinoike himself though had an ulterior motive in approaching the Forge, which was much more personalized. However his area of focus wasn't in establishing a detailed plan of attack for getting the basic infrastructure up and running. He himself needed to focus on finding operatives for the village's most low profile force.

But in reference to Satoshi and Quinn's exchange, Guren continued to respect Satoshi's display of his commitment to the public relations and the effort he put into ensuring the clans within the village were appeased. This had been a key founding principal of the village. All of the founders were well aware that maintaining harmony and cooperation among the clans was essential for Otogakure's stability and growth.

As Satoshi awaited Quinn Foster's response, Guren remained nearby, ready to provide any support or guidance if needed. He knew that their joint efforts would contribute to the continued prosperity of Otogakure and ensure a promising future for the village and its shinobi. However, he would be discounting himself if he had not spoke up. And so with the conclusion of Satoshi's proposal, Guren would look to sprinkle in his own.

"As for me, I am Guren Chinoike. I come on my own behalf, as well as that of Otogakure. What I seek today is to broker an agreement for the fabrication of some armor for not only myself, but for those who enroll into the village's shinobi force. Starting quantity will be low, but I'd presume whatever agreement we come to should be a lifetime one, where we constantly purchase armor from you and your esteemed forge."

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Thu Jun 15, 2023 9:25 am
Quinn with writing utensil in hand offered a responding bow to the village official. Listening intently, their focus bounced from materials to process to time to the shop, never sitting in one place for too long. It was all intertwined together in the processing. The words being spoken reached the right part of Quinn through the everyday chatter of gossip and living. Gesturing to proceed when prompted there was a proposal of sorts, Quinn's eyes trained heavily upon the young man. In her eyes, it appeared she may be the oldest in the room. Though being the eldest meant naught against the experience these two shared. Muscle tone, posture, vocalization, and acknowledgment between the two shined and put forth that Quinn was the babe when considering the world around them. They couldn't disagree with their own assessment of this.

Upon the formal proposal being given, Quinn tapped the desk lightly with thoughts in their mind on how to proceed. This smelled ripe for opportunity. Closing their eyes briefly doing some calculations from the proposal, Quinn nodded softly, writing utensil to their lips pondering. Flipping through the ledger quietly, the Forgemaster stopped on an older page before looking at the young Sarutobi. "Deal is acceptable. Price negotiable. Offer favor and options." Quinn began to move back to the original page they had marked with 'Fosters' Forge' at the top before starting to write things down. Marking down the quantity and the special request, Quinn frowned briefly. There was merit to be gained through blunted swords, though metal was still harsh as a learning tool.

When Guren stepped forward with his adjunct proposal, Quinn nodded and considered the individual need alongside the village's needs. Swords and Armor do make a force in Quinn's mind. Nodding through that, Quinn knew this one was more tedious than just blades to work through. Alongside that, protection offered more understanding and internetwork connection with other businesses. Efficient equipment needs not only steel for it to be usable for others. This one needed to be assessed differently than the request for swords so Quinn turned to address the younger of the two first. This task was easier, more doable, and more manageable beyond just getting standard measurements to make the request for Guren.

Quinn paused remembering their learning process. A Forgemaster is only as good as their understanding of the tool they're producing. If they simply do not understand the methods of use, producing such items would result in rubbish products and lacking in good experience. "Offer 1. 50% Produced first. 25% of cost now. Rest upon completion. Start next batch. Same process. Results in product sooner. Allows for adjustment of volume later." Quinn proposed to Satoshi before proceeding once it looked like he processed their words. "Offer 2. Same production method. 50% now. Rest Later. Reduced Cost for total. I assist with future projects. I also oversee upkeep of the blades." Quinn considered their words hefty for the man before proceeding further. "No offense. Children. Young teens. Adults even. Suck without oversight."

Gesturing towards the forge space where the boy went, Quinn turned towards a chest behind the counter pulling out what looked like a failed product from the forge. "Learning is fine. Growing is important. I also wish to attend. To Learn. To better prepare. To understand needs." The failed blade showed imperfections that even if the Sarutobi didn't understand blacksmithing, his experience with weapons would likely help his eyes fixate on the issues that plagued the sword. "Was the boy's. He is learning. Used for practice. Making and Use. Not good. Does not understand client. The Fosters shadow those whose professions allow. I am no different. To learn the needs is to learn the profession. Significantly reduced cost in return is acceptable? Total would be 25% of total cost? Total cost for a batch without any reduction: 50,000." Quinn felt this offer was workable considering the concerns for coffers being filled and not drained immediately.

With that dialogue continuing, Guren's request rested on Quinn's shoulders. Flipping through the ledger once more, the Forgemaster reviewed an ancient page before flipping to the front once more letting new ink sink into the page marking the personal order and the extended desire for cooperation in the long term. Nodding to themselves, Quinn's stance turned once more to the best behind before pulling out some squares of metal plates of various kinds. Returning to Guren, they placed the 3, 10cm by 10cm, plates in front. Each had a different pliability and durability. From a thick ringlet plate a to sturdy folded sheet, Quinn address Guren once their thoughts reached the point of words. "Preference? Standard Issue in mind. Ringlets flexible. Sheet not so. Spectrum from one to other. Doable." Quinn stated allowing Guren to assess what was desired and inspect the plates. The plates were sample presentation pieces to allow a choice between the options available. Quinn knew that armor varied in need from position to position, allowing the call to be made on which style would be best for the one who had to provide the gear rather than supply it. "Will also make sure. Covered up and hidden. Walking in visible armor asks for conflict."

"Personal Armor? Fine. I would produce base gear first. Showcase talent prior to commitment. Us Fosters have preferred showing options and capabilities first with consideration. Do not want to sell to you. If not exactly what you desire. Let me verify through the long-term request prior to committing the commission of your own." Quinn found this one to be more complicated. Custom work was always a trickier project to undergo for Quinn. Their confidence in their ability was certain considering they showed off bad product to make an example of the desire for quality on the blades that were being requested. However, it seemed they wanted to show off their abilities in general before locking in that of a more personal deal. "Will offer flexibility in exchange for waiting. Flexible price. Flexible adjustments. Lifetime repairs included! Good armor? Long-term customer." Quinn stated with a smile that befits a businesswoman.

With both offers left on the table, Quinn returned the bad blade once the inspection was complete to the chest alongside the various types of plating that Quinn could offer to Guren for village armor once he was also finished. Pulling out some documents, Quinn began to fill out the details before presenting both to the men, each for their respective requests. "Order sheet. Fill in blanks. Acceptable personnel for pickup. Costs. Details. Breakout of Materials Used. If preference changes, come. Will adjust." Quinn stated allowing the men to fill in what they needed for specifics on materials, and quantities alongside preferred delivery dates for when the orders should be desired to be completed. The agreement itself outside of an order form was for records for the business. These, however, had massive value to Quinn as these solidified the business to come and affirmed the decision-making process for Quinn to showcase to the family that they were doing well.

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

The Sarutobi would listen as the smith spoke, pondering the details of each option presented. She would offer percentages, and break down just how it would need to be paid for and when. Unfortunately, without a base price to work with the numbers held only so much meaning. Even a ninety percent discount wouldn't matter if the total cost were something like a million ryo. Obviously such a number was hyperbole, as the young man couldn't expect any batch of blades to cost such an outstanding sum. Quinn would of course mention the price in total - unadjusted - at the very end. Fifty-thousand... considering the sheer number of blades being created such felt like a reasonable price of about one-thousand ryo per blade. This was of course without any sort of applied discount, and the discount options were plentiful. The most notable was probably the final offer mentioned. Otogakure was a new village and wanted to teach the shinobi arts and methods to mold chakra to those that sought such knowledge. In his mind, such a goal was one of the primary motivating forces behind the establishment of the village. The recruitment of folks to join the academy once it was properly equipped was only on his list of things to do, so that option actually manages to fell two birds with a single stone, or so the saying goes.

When offered, the Sarutobi would look over the blade presented. The weight distribution felt a bit off, though some of that could be attributed to a lack of familiarity with this specific blade. It was also in... rough shape. There were signs of structural warping in the metal, and the edge didn't quite align like he would have expected it to for a fully functional weapon. Such a creation could very well break in the middle of use. That was always a possibility in the shinobi world, but this might break through even use without it striking against a foe utilizing the forces of ninjutsu. Satoshi couldn't help but grow a bit concerned if this was the standard, though the fact that she very specifically called it out as a failure suggested to him that this was not the norm.

While the Sarutobi thought everything over, he would also listen as Guren's request was addressed. Armor for not only himself, but also the shinobi of Otogakure? Armor was usually a more difficult thing to create, as a lot more went into such. There were more factors to consider as each suit needed to accommodate the measurements and needs of the person wearing it. Plus there was just more to do, as a full body suit of armor was far more material to work with as well. Between the two of them it would seem that this forge very well might have its hands full for the foreseeable future.

Satoshi would look over the document, ensuring that it was what he had expected. His grandfather had once had to intervene due to some shady businessmen putting odd little clauses in their contracts in order to circumvent things or prey upon their customers. It wasn't something that Satoshi actually expected, more a force of habit ingrained into him due to the lessons that he was taught. The paperwork all looked right, so Satoshi would sign off on the order form as an official of the village.

"I would be more than pleased if you joined the academy. Very soon it will be fully equipped to train the next generation of shinobi." He would look over to Guren, "We will cultivate our dreams for this land to allow them to bear fruit." Satoshi would then pull from his wallet 12,500 ryo, placing it on the table and sliding it over to Quinn.

"Twenty-five percent of the fifty-thousand original price, coupled with an invitation to our academy so that you can learn anything it is that you need to ensure the best crafts. I hope that this is the start of a mutually beneficial partnership. Who knows? If the weapons for the village are crafted here, and the armor is too..." He would offer a smile, "Perhaps your forge will be the signature forge of the village, perhaps beyond."

Turning to Guren, Satoshi couldn't help but wonder how the man had been. They were both very assigned important roles within the village, and while Satoshi wouldn't speak on the details of such in front of Quinn, he would dodge the specifics as they caught up. "It feels like it has been a while Guren. So much to do, so little time in the day it would seem. How are you adjusting to your new roles and such?" It asked the question without detailing too much. The man was in charge of what were effectively the Hidden Sound Anbu, so discretion was key while in public. "I can say that I hadn't considered the sheer amount of things that go into running the day to day operations of a village like this. A lot of paperwork. I'll need to get to the training grounds soon to ensure that I don't rust into nothingness in my scabbard."

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Sat Jun 17, 2023 2:10 pm
Throughout the exchange, Guren's posture remained stoic and interested. Near the entrance of the room, he'd fold his arms while standing somewhat behind Satoshi. From this angle he was able to observe the body language and professionalism of Quinn, who at this point seemed to be mulling over the proposition from the Deputy Kage. There had initially been a short period of silence, save for the quiet taps from Quinn's finger upon the wooden desktop. Judging from the length it took Quinn to come come to an internal consensus, Guren speculated that they may have been relatively new in the business world. Though he himself had little to no aptitude in the field, from his previous role he was able to witness some business negotiations. And typically they had been quick paced, with rarely a period of silence. Regardless though, Quinn seemed to have their wits about them, with no fear in speaking their mind. It seemed like the initial requests from Satoshi was theoretically acceptable, though Quinn quickly sought to discuss the terms more thoroughly; presenting several offers on the table for Satoshi. The subject matter then shifted to Guren's request. Quinn also seemed willing to undertake village armor, though looked to get clarification on the details of the armor. This was no problem to the Third though, as he had some general ideas for the village uniform.

Guren thought to himself momentarily as he looked upon the options Quinn presented. With a slight expression of confusion, the Third would laugh slightly before commenting. "I'm admittedly not well versed in this field, though something more...durable and reinforced might be appropriate. Inconspicuous, like you said, would indeed be appropriate for our shinobi, as if it were too flashy it could draw a target on someone's back. Still, I'd prefer it to be relatively light and not loud. Feel free to take liberties with the functionality and features of the armor, though I'll just request that the village's color scheme is accounted for, as well as an option for members of the voting clans in the village to have embroidered clan logos upon them.

For my own armor, I respect your stance on starting with the Otogakure Uniforms. My personal armor is far less urgent, anyway."

While Guren was responding to Quinn, Satoshi had grabbed ahold of and inspected the blade that Quinn offered him. Guren knew little about weapons, so he would refrain from observing it closely. But Satoshi seemed to focusing intently on the blade. Clearly he had some type of proficiency with blades if he looked to employ a trained eye onto it. And rightfully so, as the task of procuring such a large amount of weapons from a blacksmith was a massive financial undertaking. Though Quinn's prices were reasonable to Guren, and evidently to Satoshi as well. When Guren's response to Quinn concluded, the Deputy Kage happily forked over the upfront price that Quinn had requested for his own proposition, alongside an invitation to join the academy. With a firm nod, Guren felt compelled by Satoshi's compliance. Clearly he knew a good deal when he saw one, and additionally he was actively looking to recruit for the village's shinobi force. The man was wise.

Finally as the general terms of each contract were verbalized and agreed upon, Quinn would end up returning their equipment and then handing over order sheets to both Guren and Satoshi. The Third would accept his, along with a pen and begin to fill out each field to the best of his abilities. While he did so, Satoshi would look to engage him in a side conversation. The Deputy Kage was interested in hearing how Guren was adjusting to being the Sound 5 Commander. With a slight smile, Guren would turn his head from the order form to respond to his friend.

"It's different. From my previous life, I'm more accustomed to the roles and responsibilities someone like yourself and Kaito have now. But I am enjoying the discretion my title offers." The Third looked to remain some level of anonymity from the public's ear, which Satoshi seemed to understand and also uphold. "Heh, I had the same thought in Wind Country. It takes some getting used to, but I always was able to incentivize myself in doing it by remembering the bigger picture. Something I think you already do."

When he'd complete his order form, he'd walk back up to Quinn and their desk and extend his hand to offer it to them. "I believe this should cover everything. For payment, let me reach out to Lord Otokage on how he'd arrange it. When can we expect the beginning date of our arrangement?"

Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges Empty Re: Last of the Fosters, First of the Forges

Sun Jun 18, 2023 9:51 pm
Quinn shifted through the paperwork making sure that the two listed all the items necessary alongside the forms were fully filled. For Satoshi, a trade agreement from the governing shinobi body of the village for 50 swords to be made and crafted for training use for the Academy. For Guren, an open agreement between Foster's Forge and the shinobi forces for armor upon need and demand alongside repairs. Though one was more firm in it's deal, the other left open more conversation and let it be an open discussion for the continuous procurement of armor for the shinobi of the village through Quinn's forge. Assessing the verbal confirmation of both, they nodded to themselves before the bag of ryo landed on the counter to Quinn's surprise.

Their mouth opened briefly before closing and nodding. Although the requested amount up front would have been half of the amount provided, Quinn was not going to say no for the money up front. There was work today and the payment alongside access to growing with other shinobi would be vital in their continued business venture. Grabbing the bag of money, Quinn bowed slightly before moving it towards a strongbox below the counter. With the purchase complete, tasks were now being requested and tasked of them and the forge. “Let me estimate. Calculate. Return.” Quinn stated before leaving the two to their conversation.

Quinn stepped back into a small office space with records, books of accounting, and all means for the business to be established and proceed through these changing times. They were looking for some catalogs of old designs and mark-ups for Guren’s request. Staring at a few designs, they shook there head before letting out a loud sigh that was probably audible to the two. Returning with nothing in hand, Quinn turned to face Satoshi first. “50 swords. 2 per forge per day. 4 forges. 2 days on. 1 day off. First batch: 25 swords. Done in 5 days. Reviewed 5th. Reconstruct any failures. Total time for delivery: 7 days. Delivery on 7th. Questions? Concerns?” Quinn finished their statement with open ended questions. Thus giving time for Satoshi to respond with any issues he may foresee or express and concerns he might have with the process.

Once the collection of thought was done however, Quinn shifted to turn to Guren. “Possess old designs. Will reach out with new ones. Will prototype as well. Flexible but firm. Subtle yet effective. Distinct and unified.” Was the list of descriptive measures that Quinn felt Guren would’ve accepted. ”3 days for design. Prototyping within 4 days. Affirm design. Modify if needed. Present once all complete.” Quinn followed up allowing the initial information to set it before finalizing the initial part of their contracted work. “Once approved. Proceed to design personal attire. Assess material. Assess augmentations. Prototype and proceed.”

With the process of it all done and complete, Quinn pulled out small little pieces of paper and slide them towards the men. Business cards with general info alongside address of business present. They were hand made and written but the ink was still of high quality. Leaving the words in the air, Quinn’s mind wandered to the prospect of attendance of the academy. It was a stepping stone towards where they felt their connection and direction was right this time. As a Foster who never found their adjunct profession to work with and for, Quinn wound up in charge of the family business due to desire and lack of other commitments. Four forges ran in their business constituting the overall ‘Forge’ in the namesake. They had recently added in the 4th less than a decade ago and Quinn had maintained the back end for the sake of their reputation. With the thought of reputation lingering on Quinn’s mind, they spoke up once more. “Tour if you desire.” Without prompt or waiting, Quinn pulled the hammer they had on their belt holstered and banged a sheet of metal that was hidden behind the curtain that kept the heat from the forge reaching The front. “Watch!” They yelled out as the boy ran up and sat upon the new stool. Stepping into the hallway that lead to the forge, plenty of family portraits and old fragments and pieces of memories from multiple generations adorned the walls if the two followed.

Quinn would check to see if they followed before speaking, giving a small history of the forge. The year they started to the time their current family starting to move away from the forging business due to needs within the village over the last decade, prior to Otogakure formally forming as it is today, being quite different. Quinn was very detailed oriented in their elaboration with quick short to the point statements and sentences articulating well the good and bad times of business. As the explanation of history continued would they have remained, Quinn would stop toward the open forges that were present.

This area unlike the front of the business did not suffer wear and tear. Multiple tools and anvils were present with various forges available. Two other younger adult males were present working on other tasks. One forge was cold and one that was lit was unattended, presumably Quinn’s or at least the one they used. All weren’t the shiniest or newest looking for tools and methods but the clanging of slowly faded at stopping points as the two young adults looked up towards Quinn and whoever followed before back to Quinn. ”Continue. New works soon. Will elaborate later. Once forges are cold.”

The tasks at present that the two worked on was considerably better, grades above, than what was shown. The lit forge had an unfinished piece that was waiting a tang and edge work that was unfinished. Quinn approached the piece and picked it up inspecting it. “Much better work. Still needs improvement.” Setting it down where it laid, Quinn would turn to them if present and gesture to the setting. “This is Foster’s. We appreciate the investment of business. Fortuitous partnerships? Destined affiliation?” Quinn Scoffs at the thoughts and smiles. “Forged friendships.” Is what they settle on extending hands towards both if present. If one was present they would be offered Quinn’s right hand. If both had followed Satoshi would be offered Quinn’s left, Guren Quinn’s right. To Quinn, none of this was purely business though they made it a point of business first. They knew growing and developing the business would bring opportunities and open doors for themselves but knew that many more avenues of the world come from those who have worked together and aimed towards common goals over time. Signing a paper or doing business is just roads to interacting but not necessarily one that leads to anything more. This was the start for Quinn’s chapters in the Fosters’ line. The start of a new era within the now formally established and developing village of Otogakure. This was the beginning of Quinn’s part in this tale.

Ushering them from the actual forge if they had followed Quinn, the business was still operating and they couldn’t remain entertaining the elite of the village beyond more of the time they have consumed from them. “Thank you for business. Contact later. Feel free to stop by.” Quinn would announce this upon the return of the front shop space. “Thank you for business. Contact later. Feel free to stop by.” Quinn would announce this upon the return of the front shop space. “Hope to produce a live expectations.” Quinn iterated upon their departure at this time. Looking at the young boy at the front, Quinn smiled and pulled a newer looking hammer from outside their pocket. It was smaller than theirs but handing it to the child it was obviously made for him. “Keep trying. You will succeed me someday.” With that they ruffled the boy’s hair and went on inside the forge to begin getting to work on the requests and orders previously, prior to beginning the biggest orders of the forge’s more recent history. If they remained in any vicinity of the forge after Quinn’s departure they would hear the clang of a hammer against the anvil into the streets. Some yells of encouragement and excitement then back to the Everyday noise of the metal clangs and hisses of the forge entering the streets.

Even if the duo didn’t follow for the tour, their departure would’ve been noted by Quinn. The end result of their departure changed little to the sounds of the forge behind them.

Euphonic.
