History:
With the establishment of Otogakure, also known as the Village hidden in sound, considerations arose regarding the defense strategies and interactions with outsiders. The devised solution became a Village Defense mechanism that was designed to be subtle, yet powerful. It was conceptualized by several genin which were well tuned with their musicality. The idea was further blueprinted by the shinobi which formerly hailed from Sunagakure, upon realizing that it could function mechanically similar to Peaceful Storm. After being finalized, it was successfully implemented and described to inhabitants of Otogakure so they were aware of the defense being created. Though, the intricacies of its inner workings are kept secret to authorized personnel only.

Leveraging the expansive woodlands encompassing the floating village, intricate wind chimes, seals, and chakra-infused tuning devices were developed. These items emit sonic vibrations at high frequencies, forming an almost distorted and imperceptible song to the average person. However, the tune lingers subtly in the listener's mind. Individuals who hear the song or feel the sonic vibrations will experience amnesia regarding Otogakure, including its location, existence, and purpose for being in the vicinity. Their memories conveniently compensate for these gaps by attributing their presence to wrong turns or missing signs. This process resembles entering a room to retrieve an item only to forget the purpose upon crossing the threshold.

Functionally, the defense operates by subjecting intruders within its range to a Chakra stat check with a power of 200. Failing the check results in forgetting about Otogakure entirely and being unable to perceive the village and its inhabitants. This mechanism operates akin to a Genjutsu and can be lifted following established release protocols, albeit at twice the usual cost. Moreover, individuals affected by the defense experience doubled activation and maintenance costs for all their techniques while under its effects. To explicitly clarify, this means that outsiders which fall victim to the Genjutsu will not be able to see or identify any part of Otogakure or its citizens, and will lose their motivation to approach it. Logistically, the song can be heard upon reaching the Forest of Silence, a forest surrounding the Village Gates which marks the first point in which Otogakure would be within visible range. Finally, the range of the Genjutsu expands to include all Subforums within the Forest, as well as within the Village Gates.

If an individual successfully passes the statistic check, they remain immune to the memory loss effect and can perceive Otogakure and its residents. However, the doubled AP costs for techniques persist until they enter the village's boundaries.

The defense does not affect individuals within the village due to the presence of an [Attunement Charm], provided to all citizens and village shinobi. This Attunement Charm is claimable upon Character Creation or otherwise Enlistment within Otogakure's Shinobi Force. Authorized personnel may loan these charms to visitors, with the requirement of returning them upon departure. Unauthorized possession triggers the self-destruct mechanism embedded within the charm, as outlined in its application. Those with authority to administer these charms are the Otokage, Deputy Otokage, Sound 5 Commander, and Masters of the village.
