A new Morning in Hoshigakure was a new chance to learn and grow for Roy Goka. Today the scorch swordsman was given the chance to do a new mission and Roy was eager to begin work right away. Since joining the village, the ninja formally from the hidden volcano had found himself more and more interested in the inner workings of the village and was working hard to learn what he could from this place. For the first time in his life he saw something bigger than himself that he believed in and was willing to do what it took to be part of that bigger picture.
Today, it was gardening, something Roy had never done before, being from a place that had very little to do with growing things, but Roy saw this as a chance to learn something new. If he was going to be a great ninja, Roy had to adapt to new situations, and nothing was going to stand his way if he needed to be creative.
As Roy arrived at the gates he was greeted by a higher up ninja, some stern fellow, handing out gardening equipment to other ninjas that were tasked with cleaning up the large gates that protected the village. Roy wasn't an individual here, and this wasn't the time to go do something new, rather it was more important to the genin to follow the orders of his superiors, and complete the task as quickly as possible to perfection. When Roy arrived to the front of the line, the stern ninja handed the genin a pair of gloves, some plant cutters, a trash bag, and instructed him to go to an area not tended to and clean it up. Roy nodded in agreement and headed outside the gates ready to begin work.
Roy didn't realize how large the village was, spending most of his time inside the village he never really got to the scale of the village, and being outside it gave the young ninja some perspective. Still, after about a mile of walking past either tended gate area or ninjas in the process of tending, Roy found a spot that needed some work done. While the genin was passing by the other ninjas and completed work, Roy would stop from time to time to inspect the work that was completed, looking to figure out how it was supposed to look if the genin was to succeed. Roy knew that he wasn't going to be an expert but if he could somehow figure out how to make it look like the other completed sections then he would be happy.
Roy found his spot and was ready to begin, setting up all of his equipment close to him and putting on his gloves, the scorch swordsman would inspect his area of shrubs and plants and discern exactly what needed to be done and began to snip, cut, and throw away what needed discarding. Perhaps as he was working he would meet somebody new, learn a new technique, or maybe just get the work done without hassle.

Roy would continue to toil along on his patch of the garden for a little while longer, waiting to see if there would be anyone that would show up beside him to begin their work. The first couple hours of work were hard, as the ninja had no idea what he was doing, and his fingers would begin to bleed from the many pricks that he had incurred from the plants.
For some reason, the scorch swordsman did not think that he needed to use gloves and that he would be fine with not using them for this task, he was wrong, since from the very beginning on the task he went to grab and pull up a weed that he fell the sting of the thorns stab through not only the back of his hand but also his palm. Blood would begin to sprout from the wound, and the dirt from the ground would be rubbed into it as he continued to clean up his area of the grounds. Roy was clearly out of his element and knew that this wasn't going to be his best work, but he also wanted to give it his best and at least look like he had put in the effort to make some sort of progress.
After a few hours, Roy had began to start to get the hang of it, and still he had nobody else around him to talk to or help with his work. Perhaps he was the last ninja for the day, or the other ninjas were on other parts of the gates, or maybe Roy was so caught up in himself that he didn't realize that he needed to actually say hello to these ninja's as they moved forward. Either way, Roy didn't think much of it, the ninja was just a genin of the village, and nothing else would happen unless he put in the work to do it, in terms of meeting other ninja that was. But today was a good day to learn something new, quietly meditate on his role in the village, and simply do some good work, it was honest work, painful, but honest, and there was a simple honor in it.
As the hours, past, Roy quickly began to increase his speed and efficiency in how he moved throughout his patch of ground, and while the sun began to set, the genin would step back from his work and marvel at the patch of ground that he had gone through. With some speed and skill, the genin would have completed his task, and now it was time to clean up.
Taking all the removed debris from his area, his gloves and other tools, the genin would make his way back towards the village gates and arrive just before sundown. Roy would drop off his trash and equipment, and head back to the village headquarters to earn his payment, eat some food, and return to his home for some much needed rest.
