Mission Details:

Kana always knew that the village was a little bit smaller than the other villages they had learnt about in class, their history was still young and being developed, she wouldn't be surprised if nobody had even heard of Sakuragakure except for a few people outside of the village. For crying out loud, her entire arsenal was being self taught thanks to the jutsu encyclopedia and her own ability to memorize, recreate and train the jutsu until it was at an acceptable level, there wasn't exactly much other people she could ask to train her and work with them, her old instructor from the academy was already whipping up the next batch of brats, and most other chuunin were too busy to bother with her. So instead she did what she always did, adapt, improvise and overcome the problem. Her fine chakra control had eventually manifested into her interest in medical jutsu, learning how to fix up others was interesting and she been spending more and more time at the hospital to further figure out exactly she should go about fixing up other people.

It wasn't a skill she loudly proclaimed to have, nor did she truly have a strong interest in healings others but she knew someone would have to help Gunshin as they progressed in the ranks, that stupid girl would get herself hurt and with her own lacking chakra control, it would naturally be up to Kana to fix her friend up if she got hurt. So that's what most of her days lately were, merely following along with the hospital staff and taking notes about the human body and standard procedure for tending to all sort of wounds, from the simple slashes to the complex jutsu injuries, none of them fatal and instead just accidents from sparring or training.  That must've eventually caught someone's eye, as the next time she arrived for another round of following the staff and taking notes, she was instead directed toward the morgue with a single mission to determine the cause of death of some random man who's body had been found last night.

The pathologist was out for one reason or another and apparently her dedication to learning about the human body and how it works was deemed good enough to have Kana fill in the position. At least for the time being, the pathologist would reexamine the body when he returned just in case she missed something, so she was glad to not have that much pressure on her, she had only been working with very much alive patient this entire time and while she may have killed before, she didn't exactly get a good look at the dead missing nin on account of her face being torn open during that time. This would be the first time she got to really look at a dead body and she felt relatively certain she could at least figure out what had killed the man, she figured it would be like a game of spot the difference between healthy organs and the damaged organs, discounting any decomposition that may have been setting in.

The morgue was just down the road from the hospital, so it wasn't a long walk and she had more than enough time to look over the mission details, plain and simple, figure out the cause of death, prepare for burial and it came with a nice good pay for stepping in on such short notice. It really wouldn't too hard, maybe if she ever retires she'll go onto become a doctor or something if they were getting paid this much just to say the guy who was stabbed died because he got stabbed. Putting the mission details away, she'd walk into the morgue, the building looks nice enough with all things considered and she approached the front desk, an older man was busy writing down something before sparing a glance at her.

"Hm. Younger than I expected. Body's in room 2, try not to touch anything you don't need and ask me if you need help." The man would say almost dismissively as he went back to writing whatever it was that he was busy writing and Kana appreciated that he didn't really seem to care. She thought she'd have to explain to some idiot that she was actually a fully trained genin and not just a mere child. "Thank you." She'd say with a simple nod of her head as she went into the back, entering through the employees only section and looking around the small area, it was a hallway that lead down to a few rooms, offices, storages and she assumed the place where they kept the bodies were left way in the back.

She made her way down the hallway, finding the room marked with a simple two and she took a deep breath, preparing herself a bit mentally before she slowly opened the door, peeking in to see the shape of a body covered in a sheet resting on a simple plain table. Tools were laid about with a few metal trays on a small table besides the operating table. If one could call that table the operating table. Kana didn't quite know all the details about cutting open people to handle this kind of thing but again, the person was dead and all she was doing was digging around to find what had killed him, it wasn't like she would be fighting to save his life.

Entering the room, she made her way to the table, looking over the scalpels, saws and other surgical tools here that would aid in cutting the man open and exposing whatever had killed him, however what truly caught her eye were the jars. She wasn't entirely sure what was in it, but it was something that would keep the organs relatively fresh until they were needed to be transplanted, or so she had heard. She never actually seen or used one of those jars before but then again, it was just a jar. Shouldn't be too hard to figure that out. On the other end of the room was the protective gear she'd need to ensure she didn't contaminate the body or it wouldn't infect her with whatever disease the man might've had. Making her way to the gear, she'd begin to slowly put on each piece, starting with the apron that was several sizes too large for her. Annoying but it wasn't like she'd be using her body for this. She'd then place the face mask on, this one being better suited and some goggles that were once again better suited for her size. Probably had to be borrowed or her head was weirdly large. She'd prefer to think the person in charge of giving her this mission had given the man in front these things.

Finally, dawning the gloves, Kana was ready to begin. Grabbing the tape recorder, she set it to play as she placed it down away from her tools and everything else. She wouldn't need to bother it until she was all finished. "September 11, 7:20 AM. Victim appears to be an adult male, roughly 220 lbs and about 6 feet. No sign of blunt force trauma but a puncture wound located on the victim's lower right chest, near the sternum." Kana would begin to describe out loud what she was seeing as she pulled off the sheets, revealing a large and slightly overweight man that Kana didn't recognize. Her eyes trailed over the body, taking in the details that she could from a medical sense to note out loud, naturally her eyes noticed two things from her quick glance. There was no bruising that was apparent and a large gash seemed to tear into the man's ribcage.

"Examining the victim further, his fingernails appear to be chipped and I'm noticing something under the fingernails. Collecting a sample for later." She'd continue to narrate her actions, grabbing a scrapper and petri dish to gently begin the process of harvesting the DNA that the victim may have captured before his death, her hands were steady and her focus was on collecting as much as possible. She didn't know how much was needed to determine the DNA of a person, but she figured it was better to collect as much as she could now rather than risk it being too little and too late.

"Victim doesn't seem to have anything else out of the ordinary, examining his mouth now. He seems to have been a heavy smoker, his teeth is a dark yellow. He is also missing his right canine tooth but it seems to have healed long before his death." Kana would conclude the first glance area of discussion, or at least she hoped that was what she should be starting with. She was quite frankly flying in blind and doing what little she had learnt and heard about in the vague hope that it would prove correct or that it wouldn't really be the biggest deal in the world. However, the part that she was dreading was examining the dead man's mouth, she really hoped the smell wouldn't penetrate the face mask. With a subtle deep breath, Kana opened the man's mouth and used a small mirror tool to examine the man's teeth and tongue, checking for any irregularities, but other than the healed missing canine and yellow teeth common with a smoker, nothing stood out to her as worth noting for the voice recorder.

"I will now be dissecting the victim, starting with his chest cavity." She'd declare to the voice recorder as she grabbed the surgical saw and let the high whining buzz fill the air as she begin to cut in a downward angle from the shoulders until she reached the middle of the man's sternum, just a little above his nipples before she'd begin to cut downwards from the sternum until she reached the man's pubis. "Think I got it. Separating the soft tissue from the bone now." She'd say a bit proud of herself for managing to not fuck up just yet, however she knew this part would be a bit more tricky as she carefully brought the scalpel to the incision and begun to gently lift the muscle the other connective tissue and cut away at it with gentle flicks of the scalpel, slowly peeling it away to reveal the bones underneath.

"Victim's 6th and 7th ribs on the right were broken, fragments of bones embedded into the victim's liver in what can best be described as an upward angle. A bladed weapon must've been thrust upwards and into the victim's ribcage. I can see damage to the right lung and the liver, supporting the theory." Kana commentated as she finished peeling away the muscles and skin from the ribcage, allowing her a better view of the man's ribcage and the organs that laid within. Almost immediately she spotted the stab wound that had punctured through the ribcage, a fairly large blade with a lot of force applied into it had shattered the bone and stabbed into the man, it probably wasn't a kunai based on size and unless the shuriken got lost inside his organs somehow or she missed an exit wound, the blade was probably a large knife.

Moving onto the other side of the man's torso, she begun to same process, less to examine the man for any other injuries and more because she knew she would have to remove the man's ribcage to get at the organs within, the mission detail had asked for his organs to be kept, most likely for spare organs for those that would need them if she had to guess. Or maybe it was a family thing. She didn't truly know the purpose but not like she cared. "I have successfully separated the soft tissue from the ribcage, now.... The hard part." Kana said mostly to herself rather than the tape recorder as she let the surgical saw whirl to life once more.

The process of cutting open someone's ribcage was more easier than she had thought it would be, as long as she made slow and careful cuts with clamps to secure the bones from falling into the victim's organs once their support was gone, it was fairly simple. It probably helped a whole lot that the victim was dead, she wasn't entirely sure how she would fare if this was Gunshin's chest she was cutting into. The mental image made her hands shake and she silently cursed as the cut became jaggered. This wouldn't be Gunshin. Kana would make sure of it. Refocusing on the victim, she finished the cut as it was, it would be noted for the pathologist when he returned, for now there was no real need to cut away at it to straightened it out.

"Minor mistake was made while cutting open the victim's ribcage, the 3rd left rib has a pointed end that I am opting to leave as is. It will pose no threat to myself while I continue with the autopsy, but I feel I should warn whoever re-examines the body." Kana spoke nice and loud for the voice recorder as she paused her actions, making sure her warning would be heard before she resumed cutting the rest of the ribs, keeping her mind focused on the mission for now.

"Ribcage has been removed without further issue. Examining the lungs closer, I can confirm the blade had cut deeply into it. I can spot blood pooling inside the lung and it seems to be sagging. Collapsed likely." She'd comment as she shined a light onto the cut and lightly tugged and pulled at the organ to examine it, being careful to not cause any further damage to the lung. "This lung will be worthless. Placing it into the discard pile." She'd continue on with her work, carefully extracting the damaged lung and placing it upon a metal tray on the left of the table, watching as black blood oozed out of the lung and onto the tray. It was old, not too hard however, probably a few hours of decomposition. The body was still fresh but she couldn't accurately guess how long the body was dead.

"The blood gathered in the lung oozes out like a black sludge, it's quite odd but the organ shows little damage. Couldn't have been dead for long, or so I'm assuming. In my completely amateur opinion, victim probably died around 5 hours ago. Please verify however you can." Kana spoke as she watched the way the blood slowly spread from the lung, it reminded her of paint more than anything with how slow and thick it appeared to slowly spill out from the damaged lung. She didn't quite know how to go about taking guesses of how long the body would've been dead but she knew the body had to have been relatively fresh to still have blood, even if that blood seemed so sickly.

"Collecting a blood sample just in case there's something in there to tell us if there's anything unusual. And perhaps to help discover the exact same time of death if possible." She'd add as she carefully brought the petri dish toward the nearly black blood and begun to collect a few drops with a pipette, transferring it into the petri dish and storing it away with the DNA sample found underneath the fingernails.

"Victim's liver is also damaged. Bone fragments are resting on it but not embedded as originally thought. Wound seems to have been a surface level wound, he likely died from the bleeding in the lung before this caused any problems. Will examine the throat later as well." Kana kept talking as she shined the light onto the liver, examining the shallow cut and gently sweeping the bones onto small metal tray as well to get them out of the way. "Repair could be done to liver if necessary....." Kana said to herself before pausing for a second. "Desk man!" She called out for the guy she had forgotten to get the name of earlier, cursing herself for not bothering to have asked in the first place.

"Yeah, what's up?" The man in question arrived after a few seconds, seemingly not caring about the lack of name or that Kana had called on him. He didn't open the door fully and instead only cracked it open enough for his voice to be heard clearly and perhaps it was for the best, he didn't have his own protective gear and this question should be easy. "The guy has a shallow cut to the liver, it can be repaired if someone were to apply some medical jutsu to it. Should I place it in the jar? Or is it not worth the effort?" Kana would question as she looked over toward the door, her tools at the ready to begin cutting out the liver as soon as she got her answer.

"Hm. Probably not worth it kid. The man's overweight and a smoker, most organs from him are not gonna be too useful. Save everything not damaged, discard anything even slightly damaged." The man would provide the answer after a couple seconds of thought, the name kid would've ticked Kana off but she had just called him desk man not even half a minute ago so she couldn't exactly complain about that. With the answer given, he'd close the door and she could hear him begin to walk back to the front, Kana also getting back to work as he did. She liked him.

"Removing the victim's liver as instructed. Suppose a professional would decide which jar to keep and which could be discarded." Kana would muse to herself as she pondered how exactly the organ transplants would go, it was a passive interest of hers that she was curious about more than anything. She had heard people could take transplants of the more popular clans like the Uchiha's Sharingan and that had caught her interest, if she could give Gunshin and herself fighting advantages, she'd take it all without a second's thought, even if that meant finding some organs to trade around.

Alas such thoughts were for the future, she was no where near ready to mess with her own organs, let alone Gunshin's organs. She would work her way up slowly but surely as she has been doing since the start of she had passed her genin exam. Focusing once more on the mission, Kana begun the process of extracting remaining organs with careful precision, placing each one into their own special jars that were laid out for her, each labelled with the appropriate size and shape for the organ in question. "No other organs seemed to have been damaged, as suspected it was a simple stab wound into the man's lung that had killed him. Nothing could be found in the throat either that suggest otherwise." Kana would declare as she finished removing the remaining organs, a soft sigh escaping her as she reported her findings, pleased that she wouldn't have to worry so much about dropping or damaging such valuable items, each cut and movement was made with careful consideration and she didn't dare try anything risky during the entire process, it was slow but it proved effective.

"Now... Close up the chest cavity, extract the brain, close that up and then pretty them up...." Kana said to herself with another, more louder, sigh escaping her as she considered how much more tense the brain was going to be. And the fact that she didn't know how exactly she should be preparing the body burial, it was probably going to be an open casket, so the obvious things would be hiding some of the scars and stitching she'd be doing to the shinobi, but how exactly it was meant to be done was a little beyond her. Regardless, she would just continue to do her best as she always be doing.

She'd begin the process of closing the body by placing the ribcage back into the chest cavity, using a few screws and metal plates to drill it into place and keep the ribcage from collapsing in on itself before she got to work on stitching the flaps of soft tissue she had peeled open to get to the ribs in the first place, starting with the upper sections, securing the upper chest up to the collar bone tissue before stitching the bottom incisions she had made as well, only then would she stitch the vertical cut together. Pleased with her work, she'd nod to herself. "Victim's chest cavity has been close once more. I shall be examining and removing the brain now." Kana declared for the voice recorder as the whirl of the surgical saw filled the room once more.

She made her cut from behind one ear to the other before cutting alongside the crown of the skull, from one ear to the other before once again removing the soft tissue from the bone with careful cuts as she pulled it back, folding the first flap over the man's fan and the next one down the back of his neck and only then would she remove the skull fragment to reveal the membrane that shielded the brain and kept it's fluids inside. "No sign of any damage to the membrane. Cutting a hole.... And there's the fluids. Nothing of any note." Kana commentated as she worked, cutting a small hole at the bottom of the membrane to allow whatever the fluid inside the brain was to slowly spill out into tube that would direct it into another small jar. Finally once it was done emptying, she'd begin to cut away the membrane to reveal the gray and wrinkly thing that made up the human mind. It felt weird to see it.

"Nothing abnormal about the brain as far as I can tell... Moving to extract it now." Kana would remark as she carefully examined it, shining the light around it to ensure there was no damage or swelling that she could spot until she seemed satisfied with her examination before she begun the difficult process of removing the brain from the skull. Carefully holding the brain with one hand and gently pulling it, she'd bring a small scissors down into the skull, gently poking and following the brain down until she felt certain she had found the right area. A thin, firm tissue connecting the brain to the spinal cord. She'd begin to cut it, working the scissors through the flesh until finally she would sever the connection from the spinal cord to the brain and freeing it for extraction.

Gently and carefully moving the brain, she'd place it into the last jar and seal it as well. Almost all the jars were filled except for the right lung and the liver jar. Those had been damaged and deemed worthless. Good chance a few more of these organs wouldn't see much use either if Kana had to guess, she didn't think people would be fighting for the kidneys of an obese man all too much. Or the other lung which could be damaged from the smoking as well. "Brain has been placed into the final jar, all organs are ready to be transported for further examination." Kana would report as she once again placed the skull fragment back into place and screwed it the same way she had done with the ribcage.

"There should be nothing of note left in the audio log. I shall simply clean the body and make them appear nicer than when he came in." Kana would declare, satisfied with her work even if it was highly tense and filled her with worry over his own movements. Cleaning up a dead guy didn't sound so bad compared to having to handle a brain and other valuable organs, let alone cutting them apart to get them ready to be transplanted if necessary.

Stitching the man's head together was a simple process, almost exactly the same process she had applied but instead waiting until the vertical incisions were stitched to the other flesh before stitching the longer, horizonal line together. Once that was done, she simply brushed the hair to make hide the stitching as best as she could while also wiping down the body with a warm rag and a cleaning solution, wiping away any dirt and muck that had clung onto his face and his neck, right down onto his collar bones. He'd probably be placed into a suit once they sent him to the funeral home to deal with the rest of the process. She had done her part and anymore would not be part of her job.

Removing the protective gear was a simple process, she was just glad she didn't have to be so careful anymore as she took off her stuff, only putting in the smallest bit of effort to fold them and place them in a small pile. The desk man would probably handle the rest of it, Kana was too tired to wanna deal with anything, she wanted to go punch something or do something stupid. The tension that came from medical stuff made it quite apparent why people got paid so much for what she would've considered an easy job. "I'm finished. the body is ready to be transported to the funeral home pending the pathologist's approval." Kana would tell the man who kept writing away, only giving a simple hum of acknowledgement as Kana left. Good. She really didn't want to deal with anybody trying to doubt her abilities right now, they can complain when they removed the organs of a grown man before the lunch.
