Yukio looked at the imposing Hokage building, the beating heart of Konohagakure. He had been here several times with his mother or father for various reasons, but this was his first time here in an official capacity to assist his village. It filled his heart with pride, and as he gazed at the building that housed the best and brightest of the village, his determination grew to do his utmost for them. 'My first mission to assist my village. True, it's only an E-rank, and literally any civilian could do it, but that doesn't matter! I'll prove my worth to this village one miss-!' A sharp caw from a crow roused Yukio out of his reverie. He glared at the jet black bird, and it strangely glared back at him before emitting a second caw and flying away. With a huff, Yukio decided to enter into the building before any other distractions led him astray.
Stepping inside, he was greeted with the sounds of a busy office. Multiple people were visible, either working at desks or moving from place to place with papers and other office accoutrement. Yukio stepped up to the reception desk, manned by a young Chunin woman with light colored hair and an expressive face, and cleared his throat. ”Excuse me, I’m here to provide assistance to some aides as described here.” The young Senju handed over a slip of paper that detailed what he was here to assist with.
”Oh perfect, we need that assistance desperately. Take this hallway to the left, second door on the right. Chikao will be inside and will direct you.” Yukio nodded at the directions and thanked the receptionist. He followed her instructions to the second door which had a plaque that read ‘Reporting and Records’. He knocked twice and then opened the door slightly.
”Chikao-san? I am here to provide whatever assistance you need.” Yukio could hear a man muttering to himself and the rustling of papers.
”Ah, finally! Come in, come in, we haven’t got all day.” The man waved Yukio into the room. Inside was, frankly, exactly what you would expect a room called ‘Records and Reporting’ to look like. The nearest sections of walls were lined with filing cabinets, and the back of the room held large, movable shelving, each of which was stacked with record boxes. The shelving and filing cabinets were marked with a simple, but efficient, organizational system. The man in question was almost as non-descript as you could be. He had brown hair, brown eyes, an unnaturally forgettable face, and seemingly no real presence in the room. Yukio thought, for just a moment, that he had discovered the greatest spy in all the elemental nations before he ceased thinking this ridiculous notion and focused back on the task at hand. Chikao pulled out four boxes with a slight grunt and set them onto a table near the corner of the room that was somehow empty of the rest of the organized chaos taking place. ”These are the files I need you to go through. Most of these should be student academy files. They need to be cross-referenced against the active-duty roster to determine if they graduated, if they’re still in the academy, or if they were denied. If they graduated, they go into this filing cabinet, which contains personnel folders. If they are still students, they go in that filing cabinet there, alphabetically. If they were denied, they go into this filing cabinet right here, and finally if they were placed into the accelerated track with a sensei, they have a special location here. If it is a different file altogether, set it aside and we will go through those when you’ve finished.”
”Hai, Chikao-san!” Yukio bowed at the waist and immediately moved to complete the task. Chikao smiled lightly and shook his head before returning to his task as well.
The Senju began his task, opening the first box and starting to sort the files. He remembered the instructions that forbid him from reading through the student files, so he made do with only the documentation that was immediately available in the first page – things such as Name, Age, etc. He located the Active Duty Roster, which was thankfully organized alphabetically by rank, and began the simple, but arduous task of sorting through these files. He very quickly had five piles – one for current academy students (of which his own file was in, which he was very tempted to read, but did not), one for failed graduates, one for graduates in active duty, one for graduates placed into the accelerated track, and finally all other files that were not related. After only a short time Yukio had emptied the first box. He placed the stack of non-graduates into the proper receptacle, as it was starting to get somewhat unwieldy, and then moved on to the next box. In this manner, after only a few short hours, Yukio had gone through the entirety of the boxes he was assigned. ”Chikao-san, I have finished with the boxes you assigned me. Are there others for me to go through, or shall we move on to the miscellaneous files?” Chikao turned from his task and saw that the young boy was done. It was unsurprising, given the notes about the young adult in his own academy file.
”Well done Yukio, the remaining files should be an assortment of mission requests, mission approvals, and mission completions. They need to go here, here, and here, respectively” The man indicated a series of filing cabinets along one wall. ”If you see anything in there that is older than 2 years, it goes into the archive shelving over there. Thank you again for your assistance, you’ve been a huge help.” Chikao smiled at the young man, who did his best not to allow the praise to get him too excited. Yukio turned to his remaining pile of files and dove into the work, eager as only a young man could be. After another short amount of time, he had properly sorted through all of the files he had been assigned.
”All done, Chikao-san. Anything else I can assist you with?” The young man faced his superior, waiting for either more work or dismissal.
”No, that will be all today, thank you again for your assistance Yukio-kun.” Chikao dismissed him, and Yukio bowed once again before her turned and left. After he departed, the older shinobi smirked slightly, before pulling out a small notepad and jotting down some notes. ’That one warrants more observation, he will certainly be an asset to our village.’ As the young man left the Hokage building and into the heart of the city to complete his other tasks, he never once thought about how he had never given Chikao his name.
