The reports, piled atop his mahogany desky, taunted the bored Raikage. Sometimes, he felt he even lost focus on his vision, the letters blurring and melding into blots of ink, asking him what the images reminded him of. He would course chakra through his legendary eyes, the all seeing Byakugan, and the godly Rinnegan, just to make sure he wasn’t going through a bout of blindness again. It was true. His eyes were fine. His doctor had a different opinion. “You’re working too much”, Ichigo would’ve said. Fuck. Then how come he had piles of documents waiting to be reviewed?

Noboru leaned back on his chair, his comfortable chair, with lumbar support and armrests. This kind of shit was why Raikages would create clones. And yet, he used this technique to live out a fantasy of being a father. Or perhaps just to ingratiate himself towards his villagers by creating two figures that could be connected with on a different level; could he have been honest in that regard? Were they truly meant to bolster the village rather than let Noboru live out a fantasy of fatherhood?
***

In the chamber preceding the double oak door of the Raikage office, the pink haired Rei awaited the genin, both summoned on a brisk Spring morning to the office of the Kage. With each arrival, she would ask them to take a seat on the black leather couch opposite to her, and once both arrived, she would pick up the phone to dial the redhead behind the oak doors. After a short pause, she would speak in her upbeat and professional tone. Another minute pause and she would nod, putting down the phone and turning to the genin. "Please go right in, the Lord Raikage will see you now."
***

The phone rang. "Lord Noboru, your guests have arrived." Noboru clicked the comm to speak to the lass. "Send them in." He would then stand from the chair, his Blackened Skies armor hugging his wide frame, loosely hidden by the white robe of the Raikage which he now put on just before the doors swung open. Behind his desk, on a standing coat hanger, the golden pyramidical hat of the Raikage would be visible to all.

Noboru would look at the genin as they entered, his face a cryptic mask of stern professional indifference, his one black eye looking at the two as the pearlescent eye of the Hyuuga was hidden from view under a long half face of an eyepatch, shielding him from forehead and the whole right cheek. The two genin would have to traverse the ten meters of makeshift home gym on either side of the corridor, full of machines and weights, until the last few meters afforded them the more habitual office space.

Congratulations Are In Order Empty Re: Congratulations Are In Order

Mon May 09, 2022 2:24 pm
The bedroom became occupied with the low-whistling sounds of the vocalizing hawk-eagle, which had returned from his early morning flight. He occasionally clicked his beak together and ruffled his feather, waking the Kamigawa from her slumber. Her heavy eyelids opened up to gaze upon the bird, which perched on top of the surface of her bed stand. Nanaki cocked his head to the side as his eyes fixated upon the kunoichi. There was a crinckled envelope laying at his feet.

After a much needed morning stretch of bringing her arms above her head and listening to the cracking of her stiff shoulders, Meika rested her attention on the envelope. Her fingers retrieved it from the stand and noted the few nicks that the parchment possessed, most likely from being carried within Nanaki's beak. She marvelled over the idea of how quickly the bird was adjusting. Nanaki was getting into the habit of retrieving mission slips and letters for the woman, and bringing them back through the open window. What a handly little bird.

Her fingers broke open the envelope and pulled out the letter within. Ink marked the parchment with details about meeting at the Raikage's office, and the Raikage's signature decorated the bottom corner of the letter. "Looks like we have some important matters to tend to today, little Nanaki." Meika spoke to the bird that watched her with beady eyes, as if assuming that he understood anything that she said. With slight hesitation, the young woman proceeded to leave the comfort of her bed to get ready.

It didn't take long for the Kamigawa to leave the doorsteps of her house. Unlike some women, who takes ungodly time to get themselves prepared and ready for the day, Meika had the talent of looking presentable within a short amount of time. She went ahead and wore her black ronin robes with flat footed boots that stopped at the ankles. With the village headband tied around Meika's left thigh, and her long dark hair ornamented with a silver barrette that had a feather carved from metal dangling from the end of it. The journey to the Raikage's building was a simple one, she still remembered how to get there from the time she last visited. Which was the time when the woman decided to be a little bit of a fox, sneaking around places where she didn't belong.

A shadow followed from up above. Nanaki took the pleasure of accompanying the lass on her little trip. Soaring through the sky with all the new freedom that he now has. When they arrived at the entrance of Kage's building, Nanaki descended from the air and landed against the top of her shoulder. Stretching his wings one final time before he relaxed into a comfortable position.

After walking through the entrance, Meika was met with a pink-haired girl at the front. After being told to wait within one of the couchs, the rest was taken care of to announce their arrival. Which soon led them through the oak doors of the Raikage's room.

The hawk-eagle perched silently, not daring to draw attention during the more serious matter. Meika's appearance within the office entertained her with the glimpse of what was inside. Venturing through the room that looked to be some sort of indoors gym, and closer to where her leader's desk occupied the space. She presented the red-head with a respectful bow, and waited for the matters of discussion to be addressed.

Congratulations Are In Order Empty Re: Congratulations Are In Order

Mon May 09, 2022 3:15 pm
It was just an average day so far. Nothing too exciting or noteworthy occurring so far. The weather was typical for the springtime, with today being clear out, few clouds floating across the pale blue sky. All was quiet and calm. Offering forth a perfect opportunity to Hiroki to just have a bit of lazy day today. It wasn’t exactly too warm out, so the youngin made the decision to do so inside. What would normally be a vigorous day of trainings, would instead turn out to be a relaxed day of simple writing. In theory, this could still be seen as training of sorts. Just not the physical kind. Instead it could be viewed as a training of the mind, which was just as important as working on the body. Most people would discount this fact, but without it everything would be unbalanced. Harmony and unison was needed between the trio of mind, body, and soul. If one was even slightly misaligned compared to the other, the entire equilibrium could be thrown off beat.

Before getting to far within the rhythm and rhyme of writing though, there was knock upon the boy’s door. Getting up to see who it could possibly be, Roki would be greeted by a man. A messenger, who would smile upon the door being opened. Greeting this man with the same semblance of a smile, warmly saying ”Hello there, what can I do for you today?” His voice light, yet with a tiredness to it. To which the unnamed guy would kindly respond back. ”The Lord Raikage would like to see you as soon as possible in his office.” With saying this, the man would also offer the Shimadan a letter; the letter would essentially echo the same thing, but in a much more formal manner of doing so. Judging from the looks of it though, he wasn’t in trouble so that was a great thing to know at least.

So, immediately, unsure of whether or not this was a mission or not, he’d start to grab his gear. While doing so he’d offer the messenger a thank you, and nod towards them that they could be on their way. The genin would promptly grab his katana, and throw on his ronin robes, swiftly clearing the desk in which he was previously seated at just to make things a bit more tidy before leaving. Only a minute or so would be taken to do this task, knowing that whatever Nobo had wanted to see him for would be urgent. After things looked nice, Hiroki would head out the door, shutting and locking it after leaving. Then he’d make his way up the slope towards the Kage’s office.

Just as before, the walk there was uneventful. Arriving there though was a bit of a different story. A woman with pink hair was currently seated at the front desk. Seemingly busy, buried deep within her own work, the assistant didn’t seem to take notice of when the Kumogakuren had entered. So, he would politely clear his throat to signify that he was there. Hearing this, she’d look up from the desk, eyes filled to the brim with enthusiasm and joy. Certainly an extremely warm welcome which fortified earlier thoughts that this wasn’t going to be a bad meeting. Unless, this was all a mere ploy brought about to hide this fact. But Roki didn’t think to much on it. After an extremely brief moment of silence, a hand would be directed to the left of the woman. Her words softly yet confidently saying ”The Lord Raikage will see you now.” Hiroki would nod in a response, and head through the door where he was directed to go through.

Not too long after navigating through the hallways, the lad would reach a door which had the name “Noboru: Raikage’s Office” engraved upon it in gold writing. Walking through said door would reveal a decent sized room housing a plethora of gym equipment. What an odd thing to have, but, then again, it was Nobo that had said space. So was it really that odd considering that the man was practically a behemoth? Not really. Also within said room, were two other people. One obviously being the Kage, whereas the other, the 18 year old donned in red robes was able to recognize who it was due to the similarity in her hair style. It was his good friend, Meika. Not taking long to walk in, Hiroki would make a comment about the place ”So this is the legendary gym of the Lord Raikage, eh?” Before making his way to stand to the immediate right hand side of the Kamigawa girl.

Noboru observed as the two approached, first the young and beautiful Meika Kamigawa, in black robes with a bird perched on her shoulder, followed by the red robed Hiroki Shimada, a familiar face who the redhead had had the opportunity of sparring with. As they entered, Noboru gave a curt nod in reply to Meika’s polite bow, and a curl of the lips at Hiroki’s comment. “I wouldn’t say it’s legendary, but it’s indeed a gym. Please, have a seat.” With his offer, Noboru extended his left arm, aiming at the black leather couch where Enyo and Anaphiel sat over half a year earlier to separate their hands from their arms. “Do you want something to drink? I got a nice honey sake, and have been waiting for an occasion to open it.” Noboru would take as many wooden cups as needed, and the bottle of sake. Putting the cups down carefully, he bit onto the cork of the amber liquid bottle, pulling it carefully and with ease as he poured sake onto the cups. He would hand each of them a cup, starting with Meika, if any of the two had accepted. If neither would’ve accepted it, he would still have a cup for himself, full to near capacity, as it should. He would take out a wooden box, and open it. “Cigar, anyone?” He would offer the open box for their pick, as well as the cigar cutter and lighter inside. Once he could, he would take a cigar of his own, cut the tip, and grab the cigar between his teeth to light it.

Once they were all set, and if they accompanied him at least in drinking, he would raise his cup, leaning against the side of the mahogany desk facing the duo just a couple meters away from him. “A cheers!” He would then take a hearty sip from the cup, and take a drag from the cigar, the smoke of which he allowed to travel into his throat, and then through his nose, the tastes and smells dancing along his senses. ”So, I suppose you’ll want to know why I summoned you here. And for that, I think it’s good to bring these up.” As he spoke, he put the cup down, and brought up two binders. Holding his cigar in between his index and middle fingers of the left hand, he opened the first binder, reading it carefully. “Mhm”, he hummed as he read, “an arsonist, who you intercepted in the outskirts of a marshaling settlement. You managed to capture the bastard alive, too.” Noboru’s black eye rose from the file to meet Meika’s eyes. “Impressive.” He returned the black eye to the file. “The suspect has been incarcerated ever since.” He nodded. “Textbook apprehension there,” he commented as he closed the file and faced Meika. “To be able to capture your opponent in order to bring them in for questioning and face justice takes a lot of skill, Meika. You should be proud. Just don’t let it get to your head; sometimes, you may find an opponent who is just unwilling to bend the knee.” He put the first file down, and opened the second, the black eye perusing the contents, before Noboru chuckled. “Ah, yes, the dragon of the ravine.” He resumed reading, before closing the file. “Standard takedown, a few good jutsu seemed to do the trick. Not captured alive, but I swear no taxpayer is going to mourn having him taking up a space in our prison either, he got what was coming to him.”

Noboru turned around to drop the second file and face the two. “In light of your outstanding performances in the field, I am hereby promoting the two of you to the rank of Chunin. This promotion comes with a good raise to your salary, and you can drop by acquisitions later on to get your chunin vest – a mark of your status in the village, but it also comes with added responsibilities. You’re gonna be tasked with the regular duties of patrol and policing, and will still have to take Gate duties, but you will also have a heavier hand in proctoring Academy Students and may even have to take a couple genin under your wing. I have big expectations for the two of you.”

He would then face Hiroki. “Especially you. Taking down the Dragon on your own was quite the feat, way above the paygrade for a genin, but I’m not promoting you further than chunin. Trust me, it’s for your own good.” It was still likely a well known story of how Kaito had been upjumped from a genin to a Jonin, and how that story ended up; with him losing an eye to his student. “Just keep doing what you’re doing, and grow strong. You’ll probably get promoted again soon.”

Noboru raised his glass once again. “To your victories, the ones conquered, and the ones in wait.”

Congratulations Are In Order Empty Re: Congratulations Are In Order

Sun May 15, 2022 6:36 pm
The Kamigawa woman followed the Raikage's offer and settled into either side of the black leather couch. Her body leaning slightly over towards the couch's arm rest, the elbow closest to the arm rest was propped up against it.

Only the Raikage himself, was aware of the events that took place here once before. The time that the last two shinobi was instructed to sever their own hands, once rested within the same cushions of his leather couch. A gruesome event that took place to provide a test of true loyalty, that the current genin that now stood within the office was completely oblivious of.

Meika didn't mind accepting one of the wooden cups that was handed towards her direction, after responding to the Raikage's question. "I believe that I'd be foolish to turn down a drink of celebration from the Raikage himself." Her spoken words implied a slightly playful nature, that came so naturally from the raven-haired kunoichi. There were times that her high spirited personality got herself into some questioning situations, but that was what made her unique. With the cup in hand, and the sweet aroma wavering from it's brim, Meika tilted her cup in union with the cheers before taking a drink. The honey sake was almost like nectar as it blessed her tastebuds.

The atmosphere of the room didn't seem to be out of place. A little smoke danced from the Kage's lit cigar, and the bird moved himself onto the Kamigawa's lap. His feathered head rested within the cushion of his ruffled black and red feathers, very much content that it was safe enough for him to relax.

The Raikage moved forward with the reasoning of his summons, bringing up the two binders onto his desk. Meika's attention became more aroused as the redhead continued to read off the contents within the binders. Realizing quickly that he was discussing both her's and what she assumed to be Hiroki's recent missions. The one where she witnessed a small village decimated into ash. He went on to announcing their promotion due to their achievements with those discussed missions. Meika's spirit surged with positivity. These were the news that any shinobi desired to hear. A huge step forward towards their purpose in life.

Meika's head nodded in understandment. She had no worries for the increase in responsibility. She didn't mind more work. It was well worth it.

"I must say . . this is a celebration worth witnessing." Her lips curved into a smirk as she too, raised her cup of sake to her lips once again.

Congratulations Are In Order Empty Re: Congratulations Are In Order

A smirk was seen crossing the lips of salt and peppered haired shinobi of Kumo as Noboru didn’t seem to take too much of a liking to the comment in which he made previously. At the very least though, nothing bad were to occur from it, for the next words which left the other man’s own lips were that of a welcoming one, offering the two standing nin a seat on a couch within arm’s reach of the desk stationed front and center at the back of the room. So, kindly accepting to this polite request, a hand would first notion to Meika, letting her know to lead the way to the loveseat made from a leather that was as black as obsidian. Seeing that the girl would also promptly mosey on over, the lad would follow suit; once again ending up on the right hand side of the previously mentioned kunoichi.

Once seated there, Hiroki would then kindly accept the invitation of both a drink and a cigar. It was an offer which couldn’t be refused seeing as it was the Raikage being the one to offer. Clearly, this even further pushed forth the notion that this meeting had been called for good purposes instead of ones laced with potential harmful intents. The youngin’ would then raise the wooden cup to the toast which Nobo had made to them, nodding his head in agreement to the comment made by the raven haired lass. After which he’d take a swig of the sake, watching as the tank would pull out two separate files from behind the desk. First, he spoke about Hiroki’s friend recent venture on the apprehension a certain criminal, to which was greeted by a smile behind the pursed lips of the boy as he was taking an inhalation from the cigar. With an exhale, the smoke would then in turn leave his mouth in an O formation, he just couldn’t resist the temptation of doing so; feeling that the general vibe between the trio was all in good fun.

Blue eyes met with that of the Lord Kage’s own, taking in the next statements which were made with a radiant happiness. This same happiness was also shown externally, as he couldn’t help but grin like a mad man with the compliments being directed towards his way by the very guy who runs the village. It was something that he’d been hoping to hear for a while now, and even if this was only a little bit of reassurance that his actions weren’t going unnoticed, that’s all that the Shimadan needed to hear really. This sense of elatedness only increased on the announcement that the two would be ranking up to Chunin. His visage quickly turning to gaze upon Meika’s, confirming that she too had been overjoyed with this occurrence. The two had certainly made their strengths known recently, so to have this be granted to them, at least for Hiroki, was enough to send him over the moon. Although this promotion also had deemed that the pair would be taking on much more work than before, this was a small trifle which simply came with the position that they were being graciously granted. Respectfully and whenever deemed necessary, he would have no problem with obliging to doing these things.

He would nod to acknowledge Noboru’s remark that while his takedown of the dragon was impressive, it wouldn’t have been enough to let him jump up even further. There was a certain unspoken understanding with those words. Certainly it was being done for good reason, so there was no need to argue or slap the hand that was helping him. Roki would further proceed to verbally confirm this factoid, politely and calmly saying with a smile ”But of course, Lord Raikage. Soon enough, I’ll be able to show off bigger and better things then that.” As that was being spoken, there was the underlying tone within his voice which could express both gratitude and that of a somewhat challenging nature. Not challenging in the sense where he disagreed, but on the contrary of instead taking on this task. However, after another cheers and sip of the sake, the newly promoted Chunin would add to his statement. ”However, Lord Raikage. If it’s alright with you, and if it’s not too bold in saying so, I would like to head up a sealing corps here within the village. I couldn’t help but take notice in the fact, or lack there of at least, that said thing is missing. And one could attest that it is a rather important staple to any strong and powerful place such as here. Also, not to mention, it will help highlight not only my own strengths, but also those seen by others who would join outside the field of combat.”

Noboru watched as the two savored the sweet sake of victory, how they relished in their accomplishments. What were victories if not to be celebrated? One should stay focused on the end goal, to be sure, yet, without celebrating the small victories along the way, the final destination would lose its luster. Meika accepted her promotion gracefully; Hiroki, on the other hand, with a mixture of pride and promise. The Kage smirked at the notion. Hiroki was not done though; they went on to speak of a new team for the village, a team of sealers. Noboru pondered for a moment on the matter, before speaking up.

“To lead a specialized team, one needs specialized talents. You may be skilled in Sealing, but not in leading teams. Tell you what though; get a few genins under your belt and train them, lead them, and if that experiment works, we’ll look into giving you a specialized team. Deal?”

The wooden cup, which was now nearing to being almost half way empty of the sweet honey sake, gracefully left her lips once more. There was much that took place in such an opportunity. And to think that this was simple just one step forward within the path of being a Shinobi.

There were still plenty of more steps to go.

Meika continued to allow herself to settle amongst the leather of the couch, listening as Hiroki proposed a thought of interest. The mention of the Sealing Corps that was known as an organized group of highly skilled shinobi, was pretty interesting to say the least. The kunoichi arched her brow as she listened to the discussion. Highly curious on if his proposal would be accepted.

Which with the response of some of the Raikage's wisdom, Hiroki's proposal was not completely denied. More like put in the table if he was able to prove that he was capable of being leader material.

Still. . Meika found it to be a brave act to consider such a responsibility.

She drained the rest of the sake from the wooden cup. "Well nothing is more honorable than to be recognized by the man himself. I will take this as a way to encourage me to do even better. I only seek to prove myself worthy." The Kamigawa returned the cup to the desk. No doubt the discussion was nearing to the end.

Taking another swig from the drink given, the newly promoted Chunin Roki couldn’t help but smile. Of course, extra work. Yay me. Hopefully these genin won’t be boring at least. He couldn’t help but think to himself while maintaining a composed, and passively happy expression. One of the many talents in which the deviant was used to was holding a good poker face. The art of subtle deception, not used in a bad and manipulative way; simply a defense mechanism for the ego, and to hold the façade that he was ready to welcome on yet another challenge. ”Of course, I’d be happy to oblige. I already know their first lesson: not to jump while in combat.” There was an awful attempt at holding back laughter, but after saying that somewhat inside joke, Hiroki couldn’t help but laugh a little bit. Hopefully, this would get a chuckle out of the raikage too. After this would die down from himself and any others who might’ve gotten a hoot out of it, he’d continue to say in a calm tone ”But in all seriousness, it sounds like a plan to me, Lord Raikage.”

Seeing as things were looking to draw ever so closer to the end of this meeting, after a few more puffs from the cigar another gulp of the alcoholic beverage, the youngin’ would promptly place them where they belonged. The cup went back to the desk, right near where Meika had placed hers. While the cigar had found it’s way to an ash tray nearby. The embers dulling until they’d completely cease to exist while it was firmly pressed against the side of the tray.
