E-Rank Mission Painters Guild Plus One !
E-Rank Mission An Extension of Yourself
Hibiki arrived at the painters guild with a spring in his step and a smile on his face, rumour had it that he would soon be eligible to take the genin rank exam and he could barely contain his excitement. His studies had been going well and he was finally seeing his hard labours beginning to pay off with several new techniques he had managed to learn though he still had a long way to go on his path to becoming a powerful shinobi. Hibiki had heard nothing of old man Amaya, the travelling entertainer who had first taught him to make and use simple puppets, arriving in the near future. This irked Hibiki a little but then he would be even stronger if Amaya did arrive later. So long as Amaya arrived and kept his promise Hibiki would juts have to be patient.
Upon arrival he was waved to the back and decided to start on the brushes, washing each one in the water provided and smiling at the swirls of colour that dissipated with each ruffle of the brush hairs. This fascination did not last too long however as soon the water had become a dark brown mixture as more and more colours had been added. Before long he had the brushes out and drying so switched his attention to the more difficult job, namely cleaning the trays used to hold the paint. He began scrubbing each board in tray in turn. First he washed off the residual paint that had not yet fully dried before beginning to scrape of the caked on layers with a thin but robust blade like scraping tool. It took him much longer to clean the trays but soon after he began cleaning the ladders and buckets, taking advantage of his surface walking to cling to the side of the building and clean the ladders without having to lift each one down then store it back up. This saved more time than Hibiki had anticipated, and he was happy that he could now use the technique much more confidently and without having to his attention on the level of chakra control required to keep him clinging to walls. More recently he had also been consistently testing his surface walking on water with a good amount of success though he had yet to test the ability on churning waves or any water with a fast flowing current.
As he continued to clean he day-dreamed about new puppets he could make and wondered whether it was worth buying paint to make them look better like Amaya’s puppets. He was under no illusion that they would not be close in quality but decided a small bit of colour hear and there might at the very least distract form some of the sloppier carving on his early puppets. Hibiki had considered discarding them but did not have the heart to do so, each failed creation was a symbol of his progress and hard work and he couldn’t bear to throw them away. They remained hidden under the loose floorboards of his room and so would remain until he felt he was good enough to surprise his mother and father with an incredible performance.
Lost in his reverie Hibiki realised he had been cleaning the remaining ladder repeatedly. He shrugged and advised that he had completed his task and asked if he could borrow a small amount of paint for a project he was working on and was rewarded with a small pot of blue paint and a very worn brush with many bristles missing. Hibiki was delighted. As he wandered home he decided to stop buy one of the ninja shops, looking through the window eagerly and with excitement at all the various tools and weapons that he had so far been denied by his parents. He double checked to see if any of his Mothers friends were nearby before slipping into the shop and checking the rows of kunai, flash paper and paper bombs with the giddy excitement that only a child can muster.
He turned to the shop keep, eyes shining with wonder and barely contained his excitement. “So what’s the best weapon for a ninja to have? I am hoping to graduate soon and want to know whats best.” The shop keep raised an eyebrow and shrugged, clearly it had been a conversation that had been had in the shop many times before and he chuckled lightly before responding. “The best weapon for a ninja is his mind and his body, but I think a good kunai or shuriken follow closely behind. Depends on what feels right. I have some stock used for testing and a small range out back if you would like to try a few things?” the shop keep paused before quickly adding further caveats. “Nothing expendable mind, if I let students use smoke bombs and flash paper it will ruin the store and have me out of stock fast as I can blink.”
Hibiki took him up on the offer and headed to the back where he found a collection of kunai, senbon needles and various styles of shuriken. The target dummies looked solid but were well used with large dents and hundreds of small holes from projectiles weapons. Hibiki chose a few kunai and practiced throwing. He got a little carried away as he imagined battling evil ninja like in the stories and began adding jumps and spins which served only to make him miss very badly. He concluded that the traditional kunai was a safe bet and that he would need more practice with the shuriken. He had tried a few weapons but they were a little ungainly for him, who had little practice wielding anything but a kitchen knife. The shame of the scar burned a little at the memory and he touched his hand to the small shirasaya at the from to his belt. He would get better and would learn what suited him best eventually. He thanked the shop keep as he left and darted off to the mountains to practice the techniques he had recently learned away from prying eyes.
