A Plea in the Night [Mission, Zraix]

Mission Details:

Monsoon stood outside the gates of an opulent estate. Its spiraling, castle like towers that pierced the clouded, night sky called back to a time far gone, in a place very much far away. His eyes roamed to the stark, red sigil emblazoned on the face of the front entrance, a coat of arms that signified the owners and guardians of this strange, gray stone palace. The wind picked up, clouds drifted by and moonlight spilled upon three, snarling red-scaled serpents that formed a singular body, one with bat-like wings and lion-like claws, the Dragon of the Hoshimura.

The sound of steps behind him brought his attention, Monsoon turned to see his superior, Aegon. It had been some days since he had list seen the silver haired ronin, as their most recent exchange had come with a shocking revelation: one that made Monsoon need some time to think. But, that was then, and a new assignment had come to them. He unrolled the mission scroll held in his martial pants pocket and handed it to Zraix for him to look over.

"I inquired into the organization, they call themselves the Horn of the Worldeater. They're an atypical doomsday cult. On the surface, their members act as free laborers, having their members repair homes, perform medicine and the like, without charge. This has made them quite popular with the poorer sects of our village. And, if it were just that I doubt we'd be assigned for this mission.

After gaining an idea of where their objective would be from the mission scroll, Monsoon would follow Zraix. Their path would take them to a spot across from the estate district, near the merchant quarters, to a gaudy building gilded with gold. As they made their way, Monsoon would continue.

"They use this front to lure in young people to volunteer. Their, they are swallowed by this sects culture. We don't know the specifics, but it always ends the same, with the volunteer selling all of their worldly possessions, giving all of their money to this cult and cutting themselves from all their prior friends and family. Those who've escaped or gotten out speak of horrible abuses, but we're not here for that."

Both Shinobi would be at the outskirts of the Cult of the World Eater's compound. The large, square stone building had only one identifying marker. A large serpent coiled around a globe, with magnificent, bird of paradise wings outstretched as if ready to take flight.

Our target is a small family. They've indicated that tonight is the only night they may be able to escape, during their 'Eve of the Devourer' festival."

A sudden bang could be heard from inside the compound, before a roaring cheer and hearty applause. Strange music in off beat tempo could be heard thrumming from behind the stone, strange words harmonized with the tune, as if a hymn was being sung. The few windows that dotted the top of the compound shone bright with all manners of colors, silhouettes of those inside flashed along the curtains: conjuring images of strange and clandestine goings on.

"I'll follow your lead on this one. I believe covert operations are your forte?

Zraix approached his partner in crime as usual so that they could begin their mission and escort a member of a cult back to the village so that he might be able to cut his ties with the zealots he had come to loath- the Hoshimura could sympathize with the man as he was once a part of a group that wanted very different things than himself and leaving wasnt exactly an option. The Hoshimura would listen intently to Monsoon all the while knowing that the information he was being provided was not needed and that the two shinobi had already accomplished what they were sent to this location to do- though, he did find it interesting to learn more about this cultist group and how they viewed the world and came to be a unit. It was clear that a grouping of people had finally become fed up with the order of things in the shinobi world and decided to take things into their own hands all the while worshiping their leader who clearly just wanted more power.

He waited until Monsoon finished and asked him how he wanted to proceed with the mission before he laughed a bit, "Maybe that last mission we completed together has you on edge. Im surprised you havent noticed yet my friend. Look behind me at that tree just to the left." The Hoshimura said as he turned around and gestured to said tree and began to speak again "Its okay for you to come out now. Its just me and the man that I spoke with you about." A man of average height and meek demeanor would reveal himself walking up slowly but surely to the two shinobi. He introduced himself and stated that he was grateful to the two of them for procuring him and ensuring that he be safely returned to the village. "Yes, yes" Zraix said interrupting the man as he wanted to speak with Monsoon urgently and had effectively ended his business with this mission for the moment.

He would begin their trek to the destination as he would look over at Monsoon noticing that he seemed troubled. He could only assume that this had to do with the disturbing truth they uncovered from the scientist they encountered on their last mission together. "I wouldnt think about it too much. Though I know that might be hard to do considering that man was abusing power from your clan. Ill be the first to admit that I was shocked to see that he could subjugate such a power to his whim, let alone have the gall to do it in the first place." He would sigh before he continued "I cant stop thinking about those portals though. The use of space time energy to travel at a pace I didnt even think was possible. Imagine the possibilities.." He said trailing off as they finally reached their destination, dropping off the man and going their separate ways, their mission complete.
