Balance [Private] [Ayama and Navi] Empty Balance [Private] [Ayama and Navi]

Fri Sep 28, 2012 4:26 am
The morning was cooler than usual the gentle breeze bending the blades of dry grass. It was a beautiful morning, maybe a perfect one. It was peaceful as the world had been. The world was balanced, it had been for about a month.

Almost a month ago she had met, or rather been attacked by a leaf ninja by the name of Navi. He had been able to sense her bloodline, her feline partner Hisoka and had thought her a danger. He had exposed her bloodline, and used a genjutsu to watch her memories. They had found similarities in each other, they were forced to trust. He had offered to train her, first privately then with a genin team made of young nin from both the leaf and sand villages.

She had been wary of him at first, afraid of him. The foundation of trust they had laid was fragile in the beginning, so easily shaken. It could have crumbled in an instant leaving a rift and fear behind. But it hadn’t. Only a month had passed since their meeting, just a month. But with near daily meetings, whether with the team or alone, their foundation had grown stronger. She still did not trust him with her life, that would take longer yet. But no longer could the budding relationship be so easily cut apart. It was no longer so delicate, it was growing stronger each day.

Ayama sat under a tree, waiting for Navi at the usual spot. Her partner Hisoka was somewhere in the woods happily chasing squirrels, the animalistic joy he took in the hunt causing her to smile. In the month since first conjuring Hisoka in desperation they had grown closer. They understood each other better and they were steadily growing into the bloodline.

As Hisoka turned over a warren of rabbits she tuned out his thoughts and focused on the project in her hand. The little hunk of wood was slowly being shaped by the razor edge of her kunai. The upper torso and crossed arms of a man taking shape. The only part truly completed was the head. The hair carved to look real, the face dynamic and true to life. She paused and lifted it to eye level staring the uncanny likeness of Navi. She had started out with the intent of carving Hisoka, but somewhere along the way it twisted until a miniature Navi was forming in her palm.

Lowering the figurine she pocketed it in her kunai holster along with her knife before stretching and yawning, settling into to wait for the real Navi to come along.

Navi was a little late, an unusual occurrence for him as he was usually the one waiting on Ayama. It had been about a month since he had first stumbled across the strange sand Genin with dark chakra. Ever since then he had trained her constantly, studying her bond with Hisoka and making her stronger. A bond of what seemed like it was becoming friendship was forming between them, an especially odd feeling for someone as inwardly kept as him.

He no longer had to worry about Hisoka constantly bearing his teeth or Ayama always looking like she was about to make a run for it. Training Ayama now was more of a laid back experience, and something he enjoyed doing when he had the time to spend with her.

A small cloud of smoke burst about five meters away from her, and Navi stepped out, a grin spread across his face.

"Today is exam day for the two of you," he started, still a lighthearted touch in his voice. "So get up off your asses, and come at me with everything you know." As time had gone by, Navi had lost his demeanor of cold indifference and could now be seen actually enjoying himself around her.

Navi pulled out a small length of wire and tied his left hand behind his back, giving himself only one free arm to fight with. In his right hand Navi twirled a hellfire kunai between his fingers, rhythmically spinning it by the steel loop attached to the end.

"I'm waiting on you princess," Navi joked, still smiling slightly to himself.

Navi appeared in a burst a smoke, grinning. She smiled as well, excited to get started. As the days had passed and Navi had proven that he could be trusted, that he wouldn’t stab her in the back as soon as she turned it towards him. Her father had been wrong. Some people could be trusted with your secrets.

"Today is exam day for the two of you," he started, still a lighthearted touch in his voice. "So get up off your asses, and come at me with everything you know."

Grinning she jumped to her feet. Drawing her sword whipping it out in an arch of blue lightning. She connected her mind back to Hisoka’s tightening the bond. She summoned him with her thoughts, splitting her mind between tracking his returning progress and watching Navi bind one of his arms behind his back. She spun her sword experimentally, twisting it between her fingers and twisting her wrist to bend the glittering circle. Baring all her teeth in a smile she stopped with showing off her dexterity with the blade and clasped it firmly in her right hand. She settled smoothly into her Dance of the Crescent Moon stance.

"I'm waiting on you princess," Navi joked, still smiling slightly to himself.

“Princess my ass old man,” she called out, leaping towards him. At the same time Hisoka burst from the brush in a shower of leaves. His teeth were bared in a full snarl and his smoky purple black coat flashed with lightning. Yet despite his terrifying appearance he seemed more playful than murderous. The corners of his mouth turned up ever so slightly. He charged Navi as well, claws digging into the ground as he charged.

She noted the appearance of her partner and brought her hands together quickly forming hand signs. With a burst of smoke two shadow clones appeared. Splitting off they attacked from the sides, swords swinging for Navi’s sides. Ayama on the other hand had leapt into the air, bring her lightninged sword down from above.

Hisoka circled around the outside and as his partner jumped up to attack from above he lunged forward underneath her, claws aiming for the leaf nin’s legs.

"Old man?" Navi said quizically "I'm only a year older than you!"

She noted the appearance of her partner and brought her hands together quickly forming hand signs. With a burst of smoke two shadow clones appeared. Splitting off they attacked from the sides, swords swinging for Navi’s sides.

Navi jumped forward slightly, flipping half-way and landing upright in a handstand, supporting his weight with only his right hand. As Hiskoka and Ayama's shadow clones charged him, Navi easily bounded off of his hand and upwards towards the now airborne Ayama, perfectly timed to narrowly dodge the lunging Hisoka and slicing swords of the clones on either side of him.

Ayama on the other hand had leapt into the air, bring her lightninged sword down from above.

Now airborne and flinging himself towards Ayama, Navi tightened his grasp on the hellfire kunai in his right hand. He focused a small amount of fire chakra in it, causing the blade to extend with a red hue of dense flame energy. As Ayama brought her sword down with a powerful downward slice, Navi clashed against it with his readied kunai, stopping the momentum of her blow in loud clash of fire and lightning chakra.

Impressively, Ayama had focused her lightning chakra with such expertise, that Navi's fire chakra was unable to overcome it in their clash. Instead Navi flew past Ayama after the clash, the momentum of his original bound causing him to land gracefully on his feet several meters away.

That was it, she had done it perfectly. Through hard training and a unique natural talent Ayama had not only mastered the Crescent Moon Dance in all of its components, but also had the skill to master Chakra Infusion and combine the two techniques. Even against an experienced Chuunin, such a powerful technique with her level of mastery would easily defeat the foe. The rest would come down to increasing her base level of strength and speed, which would come easily for her with time.

Ayama had no doubt nearly drained her chakra supply though, using such a powerful technique would put a strain on the body. This in combination with chakra infusion and shadow clones would no doubt be exhausting for her.

"Hmm, alright, well I guess you pass then...but just barely." Navi tried to say this with a straight face, but Ayama had probably been around him long enough to see through the joke and know that Navi was in fact impressed and very proud of her. Navi's lips gave way to a slight smile after a few moments and his voice inflection changed.

"Congratulations, you've mastered the technique."

Balance [Private] [Ayama and Navi] Empty Re: Balance [Private] [Ayama and Navi]

Ayama panted heavily, trying to shake off the wave of fatigue. She shouldn’t have used so much chakra in one go, sometimes she forgot that just because she could didn’t mean she should. Hisoka had also been affected by her misuse of her chakra. His physical form was in the process of stabilizing itself with more chakra from her system. Even so it was still wavering slightly, glimpses of glowing purple flesh occasionally visible through the smoke that constituted his fur. The smoke it self was detaching itself and spontaneously disintegrating in a way she had learned was not especially healthy. But despite the fact that Hisoka was literally LIVING because of her chakra his voice had not diminished.

“WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING ASSHAT? ARE YOU A MORON OR WHAT? WERE YOU RISED BY CIVILIANS OR FUCKING RETARDS BECAUSE NAVI CERTAINLY NEVER TAUGHT YOU THAT. NOR DID YOUR FATHER. GOD HE WOULD BE ASHAMED . IM FUCKING ASHAMED, FOR MYSELF AND FRO YOU. YOUR GOING TO GET YOURSELF KILLED IN A FIGHT LIKE THAT. I MEAN REALLY WHO USES ALL THEIR CHAKRA UP THAT FAST. YOU NEED TO LEARN TO FIGHT NOT SHOW OFF FLASHY SHOWMANSHIP! OH NONONONONO DON’T YOU BLOCK ME DON’T YOU…”

Nope his voice was definitely fine. Shaking her head to try and alleviate the building headache caused by her partners fury she went to stand. Sudden vertigo grabbed her but she was saved the embarrassment of stumbling by Hisoka’s head. He had placed it under her hand in time to balance her. To an outside observer it would look like he was simply looking for pets, but she could still feel his anger burning through his worry. Smiling comfortingly at him she patted his head twice before righting herself. She smiled a little wider at the lack of dizziness in her head and turned fully towards Navi.

"Hmm, alright, well I guess you pass then...but just barely."

Despite the blankness in his face and the blandness in his voice she knew he was proud of her. She knew he was joking at the last bit. A small unknown part of her felt warm at that. Not at the fact that he proud of her, but because she had seen that in him. That she knew him well enough to read behind his masks.

"Congratulations, you've mastered the technique."

The smile she gave his was wide glittering and excited. She’d done it she’d mastered the technique of her father. The first day she had linked all the separate moves together into a single stuttering motion he had been so proud. He had indulged her in a stuffed cat, a trinket he had never allowed for her have before. But this, this was more than simply being able to complete the basic movements of the kenjutsu. This was mastering the technique to the full and applying it in a combat situation. She couldn’t have been happier.

“Thank you!” she cried, her excitement flowing over. She closed the distance in a second and flung her arms around him, dragging him into a hug. “Thank you so so much!”

For a moment she hung on, then she realized who exactly she was hugging. Flushing bright red she stepped back, her eyes dropping to her feet.

“Sorry,” she mumbled, blushing furiously and wishing Navi wasn’t so damn fast that he could probably outrun her body flicker technique. Otherwise she would have absconded right at that very second.

“Thank you!” she cried, her excitement flowing over. She closed the distance in a second and flung her arms around him, dragging him into a hug. “Thank you so so much!”

Navi watched as she ran forward and grabbed him tightly, almost paralyzed at the event that was happening in front of him. Ayama was... hugging him? Navi stood completely still and rigid, feeling her arms close around him tightly.

For a moment she hung on, then she realized who exactly she was hugging. Flushing bright red she stepped back, her eyes dropping to her feet.

Navi hadn't ever been one to really respond to affection from all the other girls in his life, but from Ayama it had somehow happened naturally. In an unexpected moment she had completely dropped her fear of trusting Navi and actually thought of him as a close friend. Navi smiled slightly, happy that Ayama had grown to trust him and began to reach his arms around her to return the hug...

But then Ayama tore herself away, flushing bright red as she stepped back. Navi's heart sank a little bit as he realized that she was actually just caught in the moment, and probably hadn't actually dropped her barrier to him. Still, he was shocked that she seemed to have, if even for just a moment, accepted him as a close friend.

“Sorry,” she mumbled, blushing furiously and wishing Navi wasn’t so damn fast that he could probably outrun her body flicker technique.

"Er... no," Navi stammered "It's alright." Navi struggled to maintain his composure and stop himself from turning red with her. Instead he attempted to snap himself back into sensei mode.

"You look exhausted, here, have some of my chakra." Navi stepped forward and rested his hand on Ayama's shoulder with his eyes closed. His hand glowed blue as he sent power through his arm to her body. The power would be incredible, as even a small portion of Navi's chakra would completely recharge Ayama. Navi stopped, his heart sinking further as he flushed red.

"Your first thought of calming her down after she is embarrassed for touching you is touching her back? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU," Navi screamed at himself mentally.

"Er... no," Navi stammered "It's alright."

Oh my god she had made it awkward hadn’t she. She had only known him for a month and he had only known her for a month and they still had so much to learn abouteachandshe’dmadeitawkwardandnowhewouldn’tteachheror…

“Chill,” Hisoka’s command had a slight quiver to it. He was, unsure of what to do with the situation and her panicking in her head wasnt helping him.

"You look exhausted, here, have some of my chakra." Navi stepped forward and rested his hand on Ayama's shoulder with his eyes closed.

She flushed even brighter at his touch, the heat emanating from her face so hot Hisoka could probably feel it. Almost immediately the feeling of his chakra swept through her, reenergizing her. Hisoka’s form stabilized and the dizziness from lack of chakra faded. But the blush wouldn’t go away in fact the powerful feel of his chakra wasn’t helping.

There was a long awkward silence that she honestly wasn’t sure how to fix and Hisoka was being oddly quiet. Taking a deep breath to steady herself and wrestle her feelings into some sort of order she looked up. He was blushing slightly as well, looking both uncomfortable and embarrassed. Whether that was because of her thoughtless actions or because of their still close proximity she couldn’t guess. She was still too befuddled by her own emotions running around inside her head.

“Thanks,” her voice was soft, barely more than a whisper. She fought back her flush and strained to erase the silly emotions and the butterflies in her stomach. While the blush retreated and her face relaxed somewhat the butterflies and stupid feelings refused to budge. Giving it up for a lost cause she put another step between her and Navi before speaking to him again.

“So umm, I was wondering about jutsu….other jutsu I mean. Because even if I’ve mastered this technique I cant always use it. So I mean… what should we work on now?” fuck that sentence, she thought to herself, digging her fingers into Hisoka’s skull and glad for the smoky fur hiding her clenching hand. The big cat hissed slightly in pain and pulled away, padding away a few steps with a mutter of “too awkward for me” as an excuse. She sent mental glares in his direction, furious at his abandonment while she waited for Navi’s answer.

Hisoka’s form stabilized and the dizziness from lack of chakra faded. But the blush wouldn’t go away in fact the powerful feel of his chakra wasn’t helping.

As soon as Navi finished restoring her power, he yanked his hand back like he had been touching a hot stove. His face was flushed red and his mind raced on what to say. Despite all of the Black Ops missions, always being cool under fire and able to react to any situation skillfully and precisely, Navi was at a complete loss as for what to do. It was the first time Navi had no idea how to proceed, and the entire situation made him feel overwhelmingly embarrassed. Navi opened his mouth to speak, but quickly closed it when he realized no words were coming out.

"Yeah, no problem," Navi said pathetically, feeling worse and more embarrassed by the second. She stepped backwards once and Navi did the same, putting a small buffer between them. Was it good that she seemed to be blushing along with him, or was she just embarrassed because he was so red? Navi's head flooded with thoughts that were over analyzing the situation, and he was frustrated that his quick-thinking mind and all-seeing Navagan couldn't come up with any answers.

Did she say that sentence strangely or was he retarded? Navi couldn't understand what she was trying to say, partly from awkward phrasing and partly because everything was coming out as gibberish to him right now. Either way, Navi was convinced that his brain was trying to betray him. "Um.. yeah, I agree."

Agree to what you dumb shit, you don't even know what she said, Navi blushed harder and took an involuntary step back as his thoughts berated him.

Navi almost formed a handsign, wanting to body flicker away from all of this, but stopped himself short. Desperately trying to regain composure and take a deep breath. Almost instantly a small amount of clarity rushed back as he realized that she had asked what they should work on next. "Right... lets see," Navi said slowly, trying not to stutter and attempting to come up with a sentence that made sense.

"We could work on chakra control... or um ken...," his mind stepped in to correct him: It's called kenjutsu asshole, "or kenjutsu", Navi finished out loud. After an immense amount of struggling and embarrassment, he had gotten the sentence out. Navi turned slightly pale as he realized that he might have to carry on an entire conversation like this.

Regaining his composure and clearing his mind, Navi calmed his nerves with a few more deep breaths. Unfortunately the redness in his face wouldn't fade and butterflies still raged in his stomach. Desperately trying to maintain composure, Navi watched Ayama and waited for her to respond.

Balance [Private] [Ayama and Navi] Empty Re: Balance [Private] [Ayama and Navi]

Mon Oct 01, 2012 2:31 am
Ayama was balanced between laughter and turning red with embarrassment again. Navi was flushed and obviously uncomfortable. For the usually stoic ninja it was an unusual occurrence to see him so flustered. It was almost comical.

It was also disturbing, had she really unsettled him that much? Had she really thrown him so off balance? She hadn’t meant to. It had been spontaneity and excitement combined that had practically shoved her towards Navi. She had no real excuse. Well except maybe her lack of close human contact, Ayama was naturally a friendly person. Something she had inherited from her mother. But the village (rightfully) didn’t trust her entirely and her own paranoia held them at arms length. There was practically no one currently alive she could say she trusted. No one she could claim was a part of her family. Well, she did trust Navi to an extent and Hisoka was bonded to her pretty closely.

“What a dysfunctional family,” Hisoka noted off handedly. He was about ten feet away, playing with something under the trees. Preoccupying himself until she and Navi got past the awkward.

"Right... lets see," Navi said slowly, trying not to stutter and attempting to come up with a sentence that made sense.

She turned her attention back to Navi waiting for him to answer.

"We could work on chakra control... or um ken...," his mind stepped in to correct him: It's called kenjutsu asshole, "or kenjutsu", Navi finished out loud.

She giggled lightly at his slip up honestly amused by his embarrassment. Seeing him act his age, or as close as she would get. Navi was so far beyond her it sometimes seemed like the distance wasn’t just in skill but in age as well. It was easy to forget that he was only seventeen, just a year older than her.

“Well, I can go to the library tomorrow and find a couple of kenjutsu scrolls to bring to practice. Until then we could work on chakra control,” she said softly allowing her voice to relax, and hoping to get him to do the same. She didn’t want this awkward hanging over them while they tried to train. She would not let one stupid move taint their relationship as it was.

“I was thinking..” she started when a sudden shock of pain ran through her hand. She yelped loudly at the same time a surprised caterwaul echoed from Hisoka’s place by the trees. Clutching the stinging appendage she turned in startled fright towards her partner.

“Hisoka!” she cried in shock, staring at the small fire that was rapidly growing in the dry grass. Bounding over she stamped it out firmly with her foot before kneeling by the cat’s side. But when she reached for the paw she knew was injured he shrinked away, yellow eyes wide and frightened. “Whats wrong?” Ayama reached for him again but in a complete switch of character Hisoka SNAPPED at her. His teeth clicking shut mere centimeters from her hand. She snatched her hand back and held it against her chest in shock.

“Leave me alone,” the cat hissed angrily curling into a tighter ball the lightning under his coat flashing furiously. She turned towards Navi her eyes wide with worry. Hisoka was blocking her mental bond but she could feel his stress even through the block. What was wrong with him?

It all slowly faded away from him, the butterflies, the bright red face, and the scrambled thoughts. Navi admittedly had a strange moment of weakness, and it had taken a moment for him to grow out of it. “Well, I can go to the library tomorrow and find a couple of kenjutsu scrolls to bring to practice. Until then we could work on chakra control,”

And with that Navi slipped back to his light-hearted, but distant and cold self. All of the red drained entirely from his face and his demeanor slid back into his casual and slightly disinterested self.

"Good, make sure to pick several of those up, and choose from some of your favorites. Skip over the ones that talk about stance and form though, you already have a solid basis in Kenjutsu. Look for advanced techniques that involve flow. I'll do the same and bring anything I find for our next meeting."

Navi had seemingly forgot all about the embarrassing altercation and seamlessly switched back as if nothing had happened. Feeling something so powerful as to turn Navi speechless had never happened to him before, he was used to being in control of the situation and leaving emotions entirely out of the equation. After having seen his friends and clan members die, Navi had chosen the route of pushing everyone away from him that wasn't necessary in his life. The only people he needed to trust were Echo and Viper: the captain of the Black Ops and the Hokage himself respectively. If they weren't part of the mission they were in his way, as all of his comrades had fallen in battle or simply disappeared as the horrors of war washed them away.

Because of this Navi had grown cold in a sense, having developed himself to be entirely passive towards emotion. The fact that Ayama had cracked his thick shell was unsettling, and Navi wasn't sure if he should try to see her more often, or resolve to never see her again.

“I was thinking..” she started when a sudden shock of pain ran through her hand. She yelped loudly at the same time a surprised caterwaul echoed from Hisoka’s place by the trees. Clutching the stinging appendage she turned in startled fright towards her partner.

Ayama's voice shook him back to reality and Navi blinked a few times as she broke his deep mental trance. Suddenly she was cut off, clutching her hand and running over to Hisoka, whom Navi had almost forgot about entirely.

A small fire had started, which Ayama had immediately stamped away almost as quickly as it had started. She knelt down next to Hisoka and he shrinked away, a scared and pained look in his eyes. Navi observed this from about a meter behind her, noting his observations as everything occurred in front of him. Somehow she had felt pain when he did, which meant the bond they shared had to be growing stronger. Navi struggled to remember if this had been the case all along, or if this was a new revelation which he had just unfolded.

In a sudden unexpected motion, Hisoka snapped at her, bearing his powerful white jaws and closing his teeth. Ayama had fortunately moved her hand out of the way in time, and when Navi looked down he realized he had involuntarily drawn a kunai. Tucking the kunai back into its holster Navi knelt next to Hisoka, putting less then an inch between the two of them. Navi had no fear of the cat, as he could run around Hisoka ten times and sit back down before he even had the time to open and close his mouth.

“Leave me alone,” the cat hissed angrily curling into a tighter ball the lightning under his coat flashing furiously. She turned towards Navi her eyes wide with worry. Hisoka was blocking her mental bond but she could feel his stress even through the block. What was wrong with him?

Ayama looked to him for answers and Navi intended would give them to her. The red symbol flashed into his eyes as Navi began viewing Hisoka's chakra structure and energy waves. After a few moments Navi began to slide the pieces together, using his sharp analytical skills and dojutsu to immediately uncover the solution.

"You're becoming too powerful Ayama," Navi began slowly, putting his thoughts together carefully before speaking them aloud. "Your chakra has advanced to a stage where it has grown to be almost entirely made up of a lightning nature. With all the training I've given you over the last month, your power has grown exponentially, and as your chakra has grown, it has affected Hisoka drastically." Navi's gaze rested on Hisoka as he spoke, continuing to observe the chakra waves as he continued his diagnosis.

"Simply put, your bond with Hisoka is growing unstable. While his form was able to control small levels of high intensity lightning chakra in the past, the power level of the chakra he is forced to use to form himself now is too high. This instability is causing him to do things like discharge lightning, which would explain the fire he accidentally started."

Navi paused for a few moments as he predicted the question Ayama would ask him next, and was already working on an answer.

"Hisoka's chakra is derived from your own, and he alone must learn how to regulate the power he takes from you. I'm afraid no amount of training I can give will help him. However, if I were to offer some advice, the time he spends outside of your body should be spent on less flammable terrain." Navi added the last part half-jokingly, but had maintained his cold and calculated analysis while speaking the entire time.

Navi stood up and stepped back, the red symbol slowly fading from his eyes. It would seem that Hisoka would have some of his own training to do while Navi and Ayama were working on chakra and kenjutsu techniques. While fighting, Ayama wouldn't have time to deal with a partner who didn't know how to stabilize themselves, so Hisoka would need to learn what was the right amount of chakra to take, and how to control the lightning nature Ayama wielded effectively. Hisoka's training would most likely involve trial and error, as Navi doubted there were any scrolls that taught demon cat chakra techniques in the library.
