Puffer fish
Sat Aug 03, 2013 10:22 pm
Zee has always been interested by the human body. And more recently, he gained a further interest in the diseases and poisons that plague it. One that particularly interested him was the poison of a puffer fish. It was incredibly toxic, and had an almost 100% toxicity rate. And it was weird. Zee had studied puffer fish before. They had no glands for creating the poison. In fact, he had tested every cell of these organisms. None of them seemed to produce this toxin. And yet there it was, making pufferfish one of the most dangerous delicacies in existence. So, then, what created the poison, this so called "Tetrodoxin"? It was either readily available in the water, which you know was a fallacy, or some other organism produced it. But what type of organism? You had studied the life cycle of a puffer fish. Kinda. Only a year or so. And the newborn (or newly hatched you should say if, you know, it were actually being said) puffer fish were quickly isolated from each other. And yet, they still carried this toxin. Why. Why was there this toxin inside them when no part of their body could produce it, and no other animals gave it to them?
Then it hit Zee. It had to be a symbiotic relationship. The reason he had never cultivated any cells that produced the toxin was because he had taken great strides to make sure that the samples weren't contaminated. Now he would try again. However, this time he would remove all traces of the origin organism. His goal was to find the specific microorganism that produced the toxin, and proceed to rapidly duplicate it. This wen exceptionally well. He quickly isolated the toxin procuring organisms and was able to make them flourish into a large colony.
The thing is, Zee didn't know that the poison could be aerosolized. And some of it was. Because he didn't know, he didn't bother wearing protective gear. But only very small amount made it into the air. Even less made it into his body. The little bits that did make it were not truly harmful. His bodies natural defense system could easily rid his body of these minuscule threats. Then the colony started to grow. As it grow, more and more of the tetrodoxin became aerosolized. His body had to fight off more and more of it. It was a very gradual acceleration. Over the course of a year, he was slowly exposed to more and more of the poison. His bodies resistance to the toxin grew. By the end of the year, he was totally immune. Which is a good thing.
He had learned so much about puffer fish. He fully trusted himself to be able to cut one and cook it while remaining safe. So he did. He cut it up and cooked the meat. He picked up a piece and bit into it as walking out into his yard. On the way out, however, he tripped. The piece in his hand flew to the ground a few feet from him. A passing raccoon picked it up and sniffed it before eating the rest of the bite sized piece of fish flesh. This somewhat annoyed and somewhat amused Zee. That is, until the raccoon stopped moving. Then it fell into a fit of spasms. Zee was now truly worried. He had cut it wrong and had just poisoned himself. Feeling defeated, he wandered into him room waiting to die. It didn't happen. The first day after he had ingested the puffer fish, he was amazed to wake up. In all honesty, he thought, I should be dead. And he should have. He decided to go through the day as normal. It never got harder. He never stiffened up. He never started moving slower. This is weird.. he thought. He went to bed that night, perfectly healthy. On the next day, he injected himself with some of the tetrodoxin. Not a lethal amount. However, it would be enough to partially paralyze him for awhile. At least, it should have been. But it never happened. He was never paralyzed. He wasn't even slowed! And then it struck him. There was this one restaurant in the city. They served fugu, and they had a one hundred percent chance of safety guarantee. How? They had a ninja dog that could pick up the slightest of traces of tetrodoxin with its nose. Zee went to them and asked to borrow the dog just for a few minutes. He showed them a plate of cut up puffer fish and they agreed. He brought the dog to his home and it sniffed in the air the deadly toxin. The dog barked and ran out. It was at this time that Zee understood how he had survived. He was immune.
It was a year later that Zee discovered a use for the his immunity. A family of Uchiha had moved into the building next to him. He still hated the Uchiha. He knew it was illogical to hate all for the actions of a few, but he honestly didn't give a fuck.
He would make himself the ultimate weapon.
He spent all night implanting the microorganisms that created the tetrodoxin into himself. Hours of work culminated at the insertion of a filter into the top of his trachea. He didn't want to accidentally harm anyone. No, he just wanted his revenge. A hatred formed in childhood is deep, and one carried for years is strong. By the next morning, he was exhaling a poisonous cloud. Although that only happened when he didn't use the filter.
Over the year before the Uchiha, he had developed an antidote to Tetrodoxin. It was the first ever crafted. And it had required his blood. He carried five vials with him, just in case. He walked up to the door and knocked. No one was there, however. And the next day, he was busy. Hard work wasted... but he wasn't ever sure if he could pull it off or not. Maybe, maybe not.
