Mouth of Jagged Steel
Sun Mar 02, 2014 12:47 am
When it happened, no one was ready for it. In a way, perhaps it was the absurdity of its existence that made it so difficult to prepare against -- so difficult to ever imagine that preparation would ever be needed. But it was, and when the walls of the Postal Office tore open from the horns of the enormous beast, more than a few people were met with the lack of their readiness. Bodies flew, crashed, and convulsed hideously onto the streets as what looked like a two-headed ram emerged. A grown man might be no taller than the animal's knee, a fact only amplified by the way it stepped and crushed the plaster in the rubble.
A few patrons that had avoided the collision sprang to action, taking a hold of the few injured and pulling them to safety -- but safety was not so certain. "Call the Medics!," were the prominent screams, the few that could be heard over the screaming of those that were capable of running away.
The monstrosity, a 20 foot tall two-headed ram, stepped fully out of the Postal Office, and let out a quick grunt. Its grayish purple fur shook when it opened its mouth, but it let out no noise beyond that. Somehow, the silence of the beast was more terrifying than if it had roared and growled about aimlessly. It seemed somehow contemplative as it looked down at the people around. A total of 7 citizens had been injured, some of them were Ninja, but most were not. The others that remained were either holding wounds closed with trembling hands or calling for more medics. It would take a while until the help arrived and no part of the Giant Ram's demeanor suggested that time was in abundance.
Alarms tolled for assistance, footsteps documented its approach, and an air of unrest made the setting for when Asura arrived onto the scene. He had only turned the corner, inconveniently in the vicinity of the explosive noise, and had run over to see what was going on. Still new to the village, he was admittedly lost on his way back from groceries. "Well. No need to make dinner now," he vocalized, dropping the bag as the potatoes and tomatoes all rolled out. Reaching behind him he went to pull out his twin blades when the cold and callous realization hit him -- he didn't have them. They had broken only a week ago and the closest thing to a weapon he had was the bokken tied to his back.
"Cuz' the fuckin' HOSPITAL's gonna be feedin' me through a FUCKIN' TUBE!"
Drawing his wooden sword he charged at the animal and the animal watched his approach. While the Giant Ram prepared to squash the annoying human, the annoying human searched his head for a plan -- and came back empty. What happens to the wooden sword idiot? What happens to the groceries? Why is Kumogakure being attacked?! Stay tuned.

Arc made a clone and had it watch over Kumogakure for a while now while his real body hid in the background. Arc was a new comer to the village and wanted to know the lay of the land to be able to navigate the village without incident. His clones used a simple transformation jutsu while in the village. If anyone happened across him he would look like a simple ninja from the Village hidden by clouds. His current appearance looked like that of a Jounin level ninja of the Village. he wore a simple black t shirt with a sash vest that kept all of his ninja tools. his words hung from his back two katana hilts pointing toward his right side and another katana as well as his ancestral sword hung pointing toward his left side. His Zanpakuto hung from his waist. Arc's current clone wandered the main street looking for landmarks and gathering as much information as he could. Suddenly the building across the way exploded in a shower of debris. Arc calmly watched the scene as an enormous ram stood in the midst of its destruction. something struck Arcanis as odd though. the ram didn't seem to make a lot of noise. Arc watched it's eyes closely noting it looking at the pedestrians as if they were... targets of some kind. he wasn't sure of it's intentions so he jumped to a closer building to get a closer look. The beast seemed to not notice his movement. Which told Arcanis quite a bit about it. It seemed intelligent but slow.
Arc's attention was drawn to a guy down the street from him. The guy had dropped his bags of what looked like food. Arcanis opened his Ichimatsugan and peered at the man from a little closer watching him draw a simple wooden sword. A TRAINING SWORD. The beast saw him as well and was not impressed by the man. Then he started moving. Arcanis was surprised. few people was able to attain that speed. Doing some quick calculations he figured the man was just as fast as he was. But a wooden sword. This guy was reckless. Arc smiled. Good. He was fairly sure the man would be fast enough to avoid the beast but just in case he prepared to step in and aid him. After all this beast was nothing but an annoyance.

Asura tucked his head lower and forward, allowing for the lean fingers of the wind to run through his hair. Their touch was a word of encouragement, pushing his a speeds higher. But the unnatural stillness that had gained dominion over the scene had its own effect -- a tint of uncertainty that Asura would not have admitted now curled into the hue of the scene. It wasn't moving like it should have. It wasn't bobbing its head left and right in a sign of confusion, nor did it clench its teeth in a sign of aggression. It was all wrong, but Asura did not slow down. His eyes focused on the earliest twitch of reaction he could find, and he found it.
The beast tucked its own head lower and forward, its horns now between the Demon and his beastly target. Its two sets of heads each had horns that appeared identical in size, and oddly, the horns were clean. He could see his own reflection grow larger upon the surface of those very horns. They wouldn't be difficult to avoid, and in fact putting its horns between Demon and its head was probably a terrible idea. It cut off vision, and gave Demon a greater range of attacks that could go undetected. But he didn't consider it a victory just yet. After all these years, it's hard to ignore instinct, and his instinct told him to stay on his to-
"FUCK!"
He might've been more elaborate had the Ram moved any slower, but it shot its head upwards, revealing its jaw now filled with a bubbling white light. Quiet, like seemingly every other action that the monster took, it jarred its mouth open and a small ball of white and blue shot towards Asura. Fast. He bent his knees, pressed the bokken before his forehead and wrapped his arms around his own shoulders, and he braced himself. But the impact hit him faster than he imagined it would. At first it was a vague heat pressing against his skin, but it quickly turned into a concentrated inferno burning up his forearm.
Upon real contact, it exploded outwards, and the force knocked the air out of his lungs. Like a toy having lost its popularity he went flying with an obscene speed, smashing loudly into a chalky brown building. Had he been any luckier, he might have crashed through a window and landed onto a softer surface inside. Instead, his back crashed unevenly in between one floor and the next, instantly shattering the windows of the floor above him. Dancing like icicles the shards of glass fell down around him, some of them leaving their small trails of red along his skin before descending onto the ground below. There was more screaming, although to him it had all merged into one fuzzy noise.
But one thing that was not fuzzy was the shape of the beast. It watched him, stuck to the side of a building at least twelve stories above ground level, and it observed as he slowly pulled his limbs free from the crushed and dented rubble of the wall. "Where's the fuckin' backup?!," he yelled in a voice that was more agony and less agitation. His bokken was still in his hand, the byproduct of years of sword-fighting.
"M-medics are on their way! They a-a-advised to ev-v-vacuate the area!" Some girl had answered as she was bandaging a man's arm. Quite a few people had gathered where the girl was, three blocks away from where the Ram was. They watched the events ensue with a morbid curiosity that he could understand.
"The hell's the point in that...," he muttered as he became fully free from the wall and stepped forward, dropping the dozen floors and landing with a soundless impact onto the ground. "If I don't make any grounds, the backup's not gonna fare any better." The Ram watched him like a tamer watches a circus animal, and right on cue, the Demon roared and shot forward, his speed greater than before, his resolve only hardened by the way the Ram seemed to smile at his approach.

Arcanis watched the scene unfold as the young man sprinted toward the enormous beast. The beast was lowing it's head about to attack the young man. Arc was sure the guy would stop. He was sure he'd stop. "Idiot" Arcanis said. Arcanis gripped the sword hanging on his hip. Drawing the extra long blade he teleported to the ground. The blade of his sword pointed at the ground to his left as it sat in his left hand casually. He stood in front of the beasts left leg as the beasts head was lowered. "Slow to a crawl Jikan Yokusei" Arcanis said in a calm steady tone. the beasts eye opened and looked directly into Arcanis' eyes. As the beast brought up his head arc saw it's mouth open. Energy bubbled in his mouth and Arc didn't care to allow the attack to have any effect. As the beasts head came up Arc's fist followed smashing the things chin upwards as it went. the effect of this maneuver was that the ball of energy, instead of shooting straight at the still approaching man, angled upward and unleashed it's payload on a building down the street about 12 stories abouve the pavement. The force caused windows to shatter spilling their crystaline rain on the street below. How ever Arcanis had saved the man for the time being.
"You have a death wish?" Arcanis asked the man ignoring the beast for a brief moment. Arcanis' eyes were peircing black but he still looked like a ninja of the village. The beast took advantage of the distracted man and attempted to squash the man with a mighty stomp. The movement of raising the beasts foot was silent and swift. He brought the powerfull leg down with the sole purpose of crushing the man into the underworld. Arc however saw this with his eyes and as he had been watching the activity this whole time as if he were a cameraman taking shots from every angle. Arc took a step away and backward as the leg came down. the shock wave of the foot striking the pavement washed over Arcanis who was unaffected. but for the time being Arc was out of veiw of the Rams massive eye.

When the Ram opened its great mouth, Demon recognized the light coming from within its jaws this time. His teeth clenched and a wave of adrenaline ran its fingers along his spine. He would push his way past the blast if he needed to. And while it wasn't a good idea, it was all he could think of as he tucked his head lower, squinted his eyes, and prepared to test just how aerodynamic he really was. That's when Arcanis stepped into the fray, some sort of incantation the only warning he gave before he was able to knock the monster's head upwards. The second blast, a stronger one than the first, went searing past all of their heads and into another building. If the calls on the headset didn't alert enough people, this explosion definitely would. The impact of its collision was an expanding sphere of gust outwards.
"Death wish? No, n-," the monster's foot came crashing down, trying to take out the newcomer, only to find nothing. Fast. Not the monster. The man. He had reacted faster than Demon would have, with or without injury. These Shinobi were full of surprises. And he hated surprises. This drowning feeling of stepping into a world where all the rules were rewritten and turned on their head, he hated it. But it was an awe-filled hatred. How far behind was he really? "Not really. I'm new around here," he voiced while keeping an eye on the Ram. It took a few steps back, preparing perhaps for an attack that wasn't as basic as an energy blast. Asura mirrored the motion, and the distance between him and the monster grew in an uncertain rate.
"Look, I'm new here. Not sure what the protocol is with this kinda' stuff..." The monster seemed to now focus on Arcanis as well as Demon, each of its heads looking at either one of its opponents. If it had acted strange before, it would open a whole new can of worms when it broke its silence for the first time.
"Where is the elixir?"
One of its heads talked in a low and raspy voice while the other spoke more normally -- or as normally as an enormous two-headed ram could speak. Its voice bellowed through the walls and the bystanders grew suddenly silent. Even Asura found it difficult to act immediately, having thought that the age of these sorts of creatures had been in his past now. Did Shinobi wield this sort of unholy summoning power as well?
"WHERE IS IT?!"
That's when terror broke through what resilience there was left from the crowd around them. Shrieks and screams tolled their positions and put them all in danger as pandemonium quickly asserted its rule with a fiery fist. Heavy. The ground rooted Asura in place as instantly, the gravity beneath both him and Arc would multiply by a factor of at least a hundred. It became an almost unbearably struggle just to stay standing, and the Demon pressed his bokken against the earth to help, but it did nothing. "What the f-"
"WHERE?!"
The gravity increase so much that the ground around them began to crack. It wasn't natural earth, after-all. When it came to these sorts of cities and villages, the ground was cobbled and sanded over more than a few times so that it stayed even. What the Demon had failed to notice was that the ground that cracked under the gravity's pull was in a fan-shape, starting from the Ram's mouth and extending to the two of them, and a few yards behind them. Helpless to the pull, the newly ordained Cloud Shinobi fell to his hands with a silent thud.

Well this was weird... Yume concentrated hard as she examined the medium chained pendant close to her eye. It was some sort of gift a stranger left her in the bar. They said it was a priceless piece of crystal and it looked oh so noce on her. Of course she would be examining it so closely after that. Who would just give away a real gem for free to someone like her? Okay, maybe certain conversations and... other interactions let her con the guy into presenting her with this rock... but still.
The thin crystal pendant was real. And interestingly enough, she thought there was some sort of clear liquid packed inside. Or it couldn't be and it was the trick of the light. Nevertheless, the rock around it was real. Maybe she was better at seduction than anticipated and he really liked her, or it was likely stolen from somewhere, and she was the scapegoat. With her past, she wouldn't be surprised.
People screamed around her and she just brushed it off at their reaction to her clothes. It was rather low cut than her usual dresses, a dark violet body hugging dress with a plunging neckline and all, but it was necessary. Thursday customers were hard to crack.
Once she was satisfied with her appraisal and let the pendant hang, she looked up at her surroundings. People were screaming and running; one even stuttered to her to evacuate, which earned him a single finger smushed to his lips as a hush. Stopping a distance away, Yume stared. Giant, two-headed Ram huh. That wasn't something you'd see everyday. And Yume saw a lot. She shuffled a step backwards, preparing herself to teleport away. But someone had caught her eye. Scarred face. Red hair. Darker skin. Dumb sword. It was him.
"AH! <3"
That was the noise that would make certain men cringe and take flight. It happened too fast, as she had already appeared kneeling right by Demon's side with frighteningly bright red eyes and a smile. The girl seemed unaffected by the gravity pull for reasons unaware. Hm, what recent change led to that advantage, one would wonder?
"Cutie! What a coincidence, I haven't seen you in so long! I missed you!" She giggled flirtatiously while hugging his non dominant arm. She was unaware of the second male hanging around outside of the Ram's field of vision. The fact that the Ram was ever there to begin had already melted away from her mind as she clung to the swordsman she so endearingly named 'Cutie.'

Protocol? Of course Arc didn't know protocol. As he was from a different village. However being dressed like a Kumo ninja Arc had to act like one. Especially since he was trying to impersonate a high level ninja of the village at that. The beast took a couple steps back and arc did too trying to stay in it's blind spot. This was unsuccessful being the thing took one step more than Arc. "Ch" Arc made an annoyed sound as the beast looked down at him. "Our main objective is to detain this thing until reinforcements arrive. We need to keep it from hurting any of the villagers." He yelled to the new guy. Arc jumped backward away from the beast that he was trying to hide "under". While jumping back he released his sword for a mere moment. still having the momentum it continues along with arcanis until he grabs hold of it a moment later. anyone fast enough to track his movements would see the signs Ram Snake Ram, poetic. Arc upon landing a few meters back would be stunned by the thundering voice emanating from the beast. And then by the increase in gravity. "What the hell?" Arc remained standing through the pull but he wasn't moving anywhere. his eyes were observing the scene however. everything. the cracks and ripples on the ground faning out around both he and the new comer. the screaming people the seemingly undisturbed customers at a nearby vendor. Wait what? Arc's eyes didn't miss a thing. his gaze swept over her. Her dress was way to nice for an evening out on the town. She was dressed to impress. Too bad Arc wasn't taken with mere looks or he might have been infatuated. she seemed to be examining a rather pricey gem He took a close look at it. It seemed to have a flaw or possibly some embadded liquid. the craftmans ship was stunningly perfect so the flaw seemed unlikely. arc turned his Attention back to the matter at hand.
The Beast's voice demanded some sort of Elixer. must be some artifact of the Villages. He would remain silent as to not give away the fact that he didn't know. Arc yelled to the man "Hold on a sec." Then vanished. Observing from cover Arcanis witnessed the woman he had seen earlier teleport to the man's side. That caught his attention. he couldn't sense much power from her. but she was able to pull off an advanced technique like that? He would have to keep an eye on her, if that was possible. She was now clinging to the man seemingly ignoring the monstrous beast. none of this made sense. Arcanis drew out another sword, this one was his father's A sword meant for greatness. He tensed preparing to strike.

No.
No please God no, not her... He looked to his side, seeing quite literally the last thing he wanted to see. A lot of things had the ability to overwhelm him - taxation, powerful Gravity Jutsu, and his hatred for this woman. But relative to one another, his hatred for this woman was probably the strongest reaction he mustered. And it was definitely stronger than his reaction to this Gravity Jutsu. With a sudden fit of repulsion, he willed himself to his feet, giving out a lowly growl as he did so. And while his knees trembled minutely from one side to the other due to the pressure, his shoulders trembled even more from pure anger. "No no no... NO! You fuckin' followed me here?!" Instinctively, he was reminded of the enormous monster that had all but ensured his death a few moments ago. Still pulled down by the impulse of gravity, he looked at it, and felt a sharp and sudden piercing sense of realization.
The two-headed Ram had both of its heads focused on Yume. What the fuck? Even when Arcanis, the other guy, had arrived and uppercut the Ram, it had not focused on him with the same resolve it was now looking at Yume. You see, unlike Arcanis, Asura was not the attentive type, and he had failed to notice the pendant on the girl's necklace - and he had definitely failed to realize that the pendant contained some sort of liquid in it. To be honest, he wouldn't have been survived if the Giant Ram had some reason to hate Yume as much as he did. He wouldn't put that past her. And by the way she seemed completely unaffected by the Gravity Jutsu... he wouldn't put anything past her.
While he was employed trying to jerk himself free, he saw that Arcanis had managed to escape. That gave him a greater degree of freedom to what he could do. And while the stranger prepared his own attack on the roof-top, the Demon would find a way of his own.
"Give it to me girl!"
Right as those words were spoken, his free fist smashed into the ground with all of its force. The pavement cracked only a tiny bit, and the unsettled dirt quickly fell due to the increased pull of the Earth. He raised his fist again.
"Or you all die!"
He could tell the familiar feeling of energy in the air. The beast was charging another energy blast, and this one wouldn't be hard to land on a target that was pinned to the floor. But it had said 'girl'... He looked at Yume, his fist still raised, blood trickling from each knuckle and forming Rorschach interpretations on the ground below. What had she done now? His second punch slammed loudly into the ground and it caved, creating a small crater where they stood, where the surrounding areas bulged outwards in uneven shapes. As he suspected, this Gravity Jutsu only worked on a specific surface. It would be unrealistic for the Jutsu to go all the way down to the core of the planet. And for the first time in what felt like forever, he felt almost weightless.
But that didn't make them safe if the beast were to shoot the same ball of explosive energy. Pushed by haste but impeded by reluctance, he turned to the girl that had found her way to his arm. "What the fuck did you do now?!"

As Demon tried to break free from her grip, hers only tightened as she smiled in delight. Why wouldn't she? Did he simply not remember what they did together? Yume blushed, despite his overflowing anger, and pressed her cheek against his upper arm. She giggled again and peered up at him cheekily. "So cold to me, cutie... You act as if nothing happened between us~"
That was when the giant Ram moved in on Yume, and she finally lifted her head from Demon and looked at the creature. Both of its heads were staring at her and it was difficuly to choose which pair of eyes to look at... so she looked at Demon's. "How cute. Is it your pet?"
It roared at her, leaving her wincing and then glowering as her ears rang. Perhaps she should have acted scared; everyone else around them surely was, so that must be the norm. But no, she was annoyed. To be able to find him again after... well, a day, and then to be rudely interrupted by the demands of this monster... She tightened her hug on his arm, resting it right in the valley of her chest.
She noticed his bloody fist and frowned, but refrained from commenting something that could have been inappropriate. When he finally gave her his full attention, she blinked, not quite understanding. Was he asking what she did to anger the beast of a ram? She paused to flip through her memories... there hadn't been anything that could tie her to this. There was nothing that came to mind at all, so she did the next best thing: talk about her day.
"Well~ Today at the bar, there was this guy that looked kind of rich." She smiled coyly and leaned up with her face close to his. "But don't you worry so much, cutie, we didn't do anything. You're still my favourite." It was odd. She couldn't remember if that was the truth or a lie.

Arcanis waited on the roof. His attack had to be perfectly timed. griping both his swords in his hand he waited till he heard the signal. the beast was entirely occupied on the two below his attention to them was strange. It seemed the beast completely forgot about Arcanis. That was one: terribly rude and two: Pissed Arc right the **** off. the weight of the two swords in his hands were comforting. the flow of power eminating from one and his family crest on the other. It was time.
The clone Arc had made earlier teleported in behind the two on the ground. At the same time as the clone on the roof tops dropped in on the back of the beast. Arc slashed the back of the beast twice before somersaulting in between his heads. thrusting his blades out ward he stabed the breast in the side of the neck giving him a pivot point for his flip. it also anchored his movement so he could twist vertically pulling his blades from the drill holes he had made in the things neck, spining slashing the beasts head with each blade twice again before droping to the ground. before he reached the ground his clone teleported the two to the roof tops with his Jiso Utsusu technique. the CLone on the ground Yelled out to the beast "I am your opponent" his dashed landed him back in the gravity zone but he stood his ground even though he was sure he would have trouble walking let alone evading.
The clone having took them up to the roof tops over looking the back of the beast said calmly to the two of them "Do you two have any long ranged attacks? We are going to support from here." Both Arcanis clones scanned the streets and found that the remaining bystanders had fled to a safe distance. 'Good, now I can get Flashy' Arc said to himself. Before he started dropping the remainder of his chakra into attacks though he needed to assess the "teams" assets. "What do you guys have?"
The clone on the ground held eye contact with a beast thoroughly pissed bleeding and now with out a target. And now was sitting with an energy attack that he had only one thing to shoot at. the blast built up to critical and released flying straight at arc. He smiled and sheathed his swords. bracing himself he caught the blast between his two hands focusing his chakra into his feet he kept himself from being sent airborn. Also focusing chakra inhis hands to brace against the blast. but regardless of this he was pushed backward several meters before the blast dissipated. Heaving and kneeling Arcanis smiled.
"Damn you. dare you laugh at my Superior power?"
"Oh I dare." Arc said pointing at the ground. the cracks in the pavement stopped a mere foot in front of him. "You see in Chess as well as the battle field you use your opponent moves against him." Arcanis stood and stretched his shoulders. The effects of leaving the gravity jutsu now having an opposite effect on him. He felt light and fast. He threw up a mock 'come at me sign'
"Play with me" Arc smiled.
