Odin's training

Well, according to Odin, he had to focus his lightning element chakra into his core, or his stomach and chest area. After gathering the chakra he had to gradually push it outward, first to his sword arm and then into the blade of the sword itself. This was going to be a bit more challenging for Kense than just manipulating his chakra within his own body. He had never even tried to focus his chakra into an outside object before. He was eager to try it out. "Ok. I think I've got the gist of it. I'm ready to try it." he said to Odin while holding the sword out in front of him, preparing to try the technique.
He began by first gathering his lightning element chakra into his core as Odin suggested. Once it was gathered in that spot, he started to push it outward, focusing it next into his sword arm. He could feel the chakra moving according to his wishes. It swelled around his entire arm, encasing it in actual lightning. That was all fairly easy for him, but now came the hard part. Trying to push the lightning chakra into the blade of the sword was a different story. He slowly began focusing his chakra into the sword. At first it seemed like it would work. A flash of lightning ran down the length of the sword and then exploded in a puff of smoke.
"Shit! I almost had it! That's no good."

Odin once again remained quiet as he watched Kense begin to try and copy the skill Odin used.  He studied how Kense preformed the skill as well. 
"That was an impressive try! You really have a knack for it," he said with a smirk on his face.  He could get used to teaching.  Kense was his first 'student', the first of hopefully many in the future. 

"Maintain the chakra in your weapon hand until you feel like it is stabilized enough to proceed further.  If you can, try and just keep your chakra swirling around your hand and practice bringing it back and forth throughout your arm to the other side of your body to your other arm. 
When you feel like you can maintain it for a few seconds in each hand, try pushing it out even further while still cycling it between arms.  That might do the trick."
Odin held a fist out, lightning sparked from his fist.  The lightning sparked out of it then it exploded out, swirling around his finger tips, "Keep it like this for a few moments and try again."

"That was an impressive try! You really have a knack for it"

Once again the 'super genius' Odin had noticed Kense's actual genius and adaptivity and given him more praise. It was making Kense's huge ass ego even bigger, if that's even possible. Still, he had failed that attempt at the skill. Honestly it wasn't really a surprise to Kense considering he knew he had never even thought of focusing his chakra into an outside object before. However, even though it was a new concept to him he seemed to be catching on rather quickly. He came close to getting it on his first try.

'Ok, so basically keep the lightning element chakra flowing and cycle it from one hand, through my body to the opposite hand and vice versa until I can maintain it in either hand for a good period of time. Then when I'm able to do that, focus it back into my sword hand and just push it outward, as if the sword were just an extension of my own arm, not a foreign object.' Kense closed his eyes and took several deep breaths in and out, focusing himself on being able to manipulate his lightning element chakra for this task. When he believed he was focused enough to continue, he opened his eyes and began gathering his lightning element chakra into his core. Once he had a large amount of chakra gathered, he began moving down his arm and into his sword hand. He held the chakra there for a few moments, letting it swirl around his hand in the form of lightning and then moving it up his arm and down the opposite arm to settle in his non-sword hand. The lightning now swirled around that hand, staying there for a few moments longer before it made its way back through Kense's body to settle in his sword hand. This was it. He felt he had enough control and enough confidence and determination to complete the skill. He pushed his lightning element chakra outward even further, letting it make its own path down the blade of the sword, covering it in a constant cloak of lightning dancing elegantly along the blade and eliciting sparks off of the edges at random intervals. He had finally done it. He let a proud smirk creep across his face as he looked at Odin. "You know, that was more difficult than I thought it would be but I think this right here shows that I've definitely done it." he said to him gesturing with the sword in his right hand that was now coated in his lightning element chakra.

Odin returned the smirk back at Kense, nodding in approval. 
"Excellent! Now maintain it for a few minutes next time!  You need to keep a constant flow of chakra coarsing through the blade like it is nothing.  It needs to become second nature to you but I think you've gotten the hang of it," Odin mentioned as food for thought, "This is not even a jutsu like chidori sword which will be a thousand times harder when you are ready for it!" Odin warned the genin. 

Odin's expression turned into a slight frown, "Looks like you've had enough for now.  You need to get some rest, maybe something to eat before we continue.  I can tell by just looking at you that need a break at the very least."  Odin turned around and begun walking away from Kense.
"You can find me anytime here in the training grounds.  I'm here almost everyday, if not, I'm in a ramen shop called the Thunder Palace.  Drop my name there for some free ramen if you are interested.  Anyway, I'll see you soon when you fully recover."

Odin began walking away, putting up a hand, waving it as he picked up the sheath from the floor,
"You can hold onto that katana, it's name is called the Heaven's Sorrow Ninjato.  I don't need more than one at the moment, it was just taking up room in my scroll.  Treat it well until you have a sword of your own,"  Odin kept walking, using flicker movement to speed walk away.  He wanted to meditate.  In the end, he just walked over to a bench and sat down, he closed his eyes and began 'meditating'.  If one listened closely, he was slightly snoring.
