A Breath of Hot Air (Private, Training)
Thu Jan 07, 2016 6:04 pm
"Kapuuufutht!"
For the third time, Ruri's attempt to use the technique was met not with a roar of flames, but a spluttering of spit. The girl spat all over the target her father had set up for her. Thankfully, he wasn't around to see the display - but it still brought a pinkening to her cheeks. Even if it was in private, it was just embarrassing that this was taking her so long to get the hang of! The chakra sensitive paper had burned without a second thought; why was it taking so much effort for her to use what should, by all rights, come naturally to a ninja like her?!
Closing her eyes, Ruri once again tried to centre herself. This was still difficult for her; even mastering the basic techniques necessary to call herself a ninja had taken her a shamefully long amount of time. Now, though, she was officially recognized as a Genin... it was time that she applied herself and at least mastered one of the basic techniques that might actually be useful in a combat situation!
To think, she'd actually - naively - believed that it would become easier to use techniques like this when she had her headband. It didn't make things easier at all! The title just made the pressure more intense!
Her hands formed the tiger seal; the technique only called for half of it, but it was easier to concentrate if she went the whole way. She could feel the chakra moving through her, tingling in her fingertips as she tried to recall the lessons her academy tutor had imparted to her. That wasn't the point of this technique, though. The energy shouldn't be concentrated in her fingers, her fingers were only the tool that she was using!
Again, she sucked in a deep breath, and this time, she exhaled with all her might... and this time, tiny sparks blew out along with the rush of air expelled from her lungs, smattering the target with a flurry of brilliant embers. It wasn't perfect, but it was a start! And Ruri's exhausted lips tugged up into a bright smile at the realization of her success.
"Now again!" She declared, "Come on, Ruri. You can do this!"
The chakra surged into her limbs, into her stomach, mingling with the air as she drew it powerfully into her lungs. Her blood was up now, and her fingers relaxed; forming the half-seal, not the full one, and letting her chakra system take up the slack. She could feel it burning inside her guts...!
PHOOM!
The eruption of chakra from her lips was a glorious flame, a cone of dazzling flames that swallowed up the target and set it crackling ablaze. The flame kept going for a full three seconds, until she finally ran out of breath and was left staring at the charred remains of the target.
It may just be a small success, but in that moment, Ruri truly believed that she could do it. At last, she was taking her first steps on her path as a ninja!
