Bonding with Summons
Fri Mar 18, 2016 3:04 am
“Well it is too late to go tell the guy in the hat that I found the fire birds. I also didn’t bring any proof.” Sitting back in the chair at his desk the ninja thought about heading back to the phoenix caves. Didn’t Pliny say I could summon one with a blood tribute and the summoning jutsu. Pricking his finger with a kunai the ninja released some of the scarlet liquid from his body. He weaved some seals and focused his chakra. Kuchiyose no jutsu! Slamming his hand onto the table black marking began surrounding the surface underneath Ryu’s palm and with a pop Herodatus appeared on the table flames flickering around its body. “In hindsight this wasn’t a good idea, you’re on fire.” The bird nodded in agreeance, as some papers in the ninja’s room caught fire. Opening the window Ryu directed the bird to fly outside then tossed out the burning papers. The bird flew around for a bit before disappearing in a plume of smoke. “Is it supposed to do that?” Shrugging the ninja made his finger bleed and performed the summoning again, this time on the wall outside of his window. The bird appeared again flying in the air. “Alright you are okay, when you turned to smoke and disappeared I thought something weird happened. I guess the summoning just timed out.” Running downstairs Ryu grabbed a piece of bread from the kitchen and stepped outside. “Hero, I got something for you.” The bird flew over and landed on the ninja’s shoulder he ate the bread, then disappeared in a plume of smoke. “Guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”
In the morning Ryu didn’t pack his bag as he wasn’t headed to the training field or to go work out. Instead he got dressed and walked out of the door. The day before Ryu had made a promise to a man in a straw hat to bring back proof of the fire birds the man had spotted in the sky. The ninja was bringing the man more than just any proof, he was bringing the man the whole bird. At the shopping district Ryu didn’t spot the man right away, so it took some time to look around. Sure enough though he saw the straw hatted man and his friend arguing again. “Told you those birds didn’t exist, even that ninja didn’t find it.” One of the gentlemen said. The straw hatted man was about to respond back, but stopped when he spotted the ninja. “Did you find proof?” The man asked looking wide eyed at the ninja. “Yes.” Said Ryu pulling out a kunai and slashed his finger. He weaved some seals and applied some more chakra. Kuchiyose no jutsu! In a cloud of smoke the phoenix Herodatus appeared. “This is my friend Hero, she’s a phoenix and the fire bird you were looking for.” The straw hatted man looked at his friend and smacked him on the shoulder. “Now pay up, told you they were real.” Pulling out a coin purse the other man handed the other some coins. Looking at Ryu the straw hat man asked if he could summon a bird like that, but was clearly joking. “Maybe, but there are a couple of test the phoenix will put you through.” Ryu laughed and walked away.
“Well Hero what do you want to eat it’s on me I guess?” The bird flew over to a burger place and landed. “Burgers it is.” Hero had to wait outside to his flammability. After a couple of minutes the ninja returned with two burgers and some fries. The bird ate rather quickly and turned to smoke. “A real dine and dasher, huh.”

The training grounds were where Ryu did most of his hard work. It was a place that was relaxing to the ninja. The air was much more fluid here as ninja pushed the air from elsewhere while working their jutsu. Ryu let the air hit his face and looked up to the sky. “Tch…” Damn sun is still out. Fixing the shades hanging from the tip of his nose Ryu began to focus again. Alright I need to keep training my summoning jutsu, I think the more chakra I offer the stronger of a summon I can get. Ryu made a scratch on his arm with a kunai. You know cutting yourself really stops being weird the tenth time you do it to summon a bird. He wiped some of the blood off with his right hand, the one that had been used to sign the contract between himself and the phoenix. Making some hand seals Ryu built up enough chakra that it was visible to anyone looking. Don’t want to summon something too extreme, I think this should be enough chakra. The ninja slapped his hand onto his rock that had been covered in burns and as he did a massive cloud of smoke filled the area.
Ryu coughed until the smoke cleared, but he had already noticed the gigantic phoenix sitting on the rock. This bird was enormous he could feel the beating of the birds wings as wind blew into the ninja’s face when the bird took flight. “Sweet.” The ninja said as the bird took off in the direction of the village. Where is he headed? Oh, no not that way. De-summon! De-summon! The bird disappeared in another cloud smoke. Surely people had seen the giant fire bird in the sky flying over the training grounds and surely people would come to investigate. Instead of waiting around Ryu thought it was best to attempt his summoning once more out in the desert.
At the village gates the guard seemed relaxed it was early morning unlike the last time the ninja had gone through the gates there were people entering and exiting. Ryu walked out following behind a man with a cart. Guess he has a free ninja escort for the next thirty or so minutes. Looks like we are headed the sam direction. I can train and scare off any bandits. Walking to the front of the camel pulling the cart Ryu turned around and looked at the man who owned the cart, Ryu walked backwards as he continued to move. “Hope you don’t mind me tagging along for a bit.” The man smiled upon seeing the headband. “Not at all, if someone attacks I’ve got a ninja here.” Ryu slowed his pace and walked next to the cart owner. The cart was covered by a grey tarp, so seeing what the man was hauling was impossible. “Mind if I summon a bird to watch for bandits?” Ryu asked the man, although it wasn’t the real reason the ninja wanted to summon the bird it was good enough of a lie for the man to nod his head.
Picking a little of the scab off from the wound Ryu had made earlier the cut began to bleed again. He wiped the blood on his summoning hand and made the signs, building chakra as he did so. This time lacking an even surface he decided to use the sand as the platform for the summoning. Kuchiyose no jutsu! The bird flew out of the cloud almost as soon as it appeared and started to head off. “Hey, get back here!” The ninja shouted as it flew away, but it turned its neck as the words reached it. “Well I guess you are powerful enough to summon a divine being like myself, so you must have some talent.” The bird descended until it was walking next to Ryu and the guy who owned the cart. The man looked at the bird in awe. “Holy crap fire bird.” The flames of the phoenix grew hotter as it was called “bird.” Ryu corrected the man before the phoenix cooked the man alive. “He is actually a phoenix.” The bird nodded in agreement at the ninja’s words. “Still it’s amazing I’ll call it whatever as long as it doesn’t eat me, my camel or my stuff.” The bird seemed to like being feared by the man, as it fluffed up its feathers as if it were complimented.
“So summoner, what have you brought me here to do there must be a reason?” Ryu shrugged he really had no idea besides wanting to talk to it. “I just kind of wanted to talk, but if you want could you survey the area and tell me of any dangers ahead?” The bird looked offended by the order, but still took off in flight. “With ease.” The bird said while flying off. Ryu and the man walked for a couple minutes watching the flaming phoenix as it circled overhead. “That sure is incredible, to be able to call a fantastic creature like that.” The man said holding his hand to cover his eyes, to better see the phoenix. “It really wasn’t that incredible. All I did was hear a rumor, wander out in the direction someone told me, followed one of the younger phoenix somewhere, make a scroll light on fire, not get burned when I touched a phoenix and then signed my name in blood.” The man look horrified by the fact the ninja didn’t find that incredible. “I’d really not like to mess with you or your bir… Phoenix.” Ryu patted the man on the back. “You don’t have to worry about me I’m pretty relaxed.”
After a minute of silence the phoenix descended from the sky and hovered above Ryu and the cart owner. “Did you find anything…? Actually what is your name? Mine is Ryu Reinhard.” The bird looked at the man and then to Ryu, then back. “Ezekiel unless you prefer most holy or the divine one.” Ryu tapped the bird’s body lightly. “I’m thinking I’ll stick with Ezekiel. So did you find anything?” The bird once again looked frustrated when it wasn’t called divine, but instead its name. “Yes, there are some bandits up ahead blocking the road, they just robbed a man as well. Bandits I better have this guy stop the cart while we go investigate. “How many bandits were there Ezekiel” The bird flew up higher and then circled while descending. “Seven.” He didn’t count them the first time did he? “Sir, please stay here while I go deal with the bandits. Ezekiel, follow me!” With that Ryu ran off. The phoenix stayed back for a second then began to propel itself foreward. “You aren’t planning on fighting them all are you?” Ryu nodded as if saying “Of course I am!” The bird’s flames grew brighter with the ninja’s nod. “But I want to fight some.” Looking at the phoenix Ryu was more than okay with the bird taking care of some of the problem. “No killing though okay.” The bird waved its head side to side as if thinking before agreeing.
At the top of the dunes Ryu kept an eyes on the bandits like Ezekiel had said there were seven. They walked around in cloaks to protect themselves from sandstorms and the like. Ezekiel had flown up high as were Ryu’s orders. No one dare look up into the sky at this time of day it would blind you for at least a minute, so it was rather obvious the phoenix would not be spotted. Before departing Ryu had told the bird that if he shot a fireball that the bird should descend and help pick off some of the thugs. I really hope this bird knows what we’re doing. Filling his lungs with air the ninja made some hand seals and shot a massive wad of fire at the enemy. There was more than enough warning for all of them to get out of the way. All of them immediately looked at the place the fireball had come from and to where Ryu was standing. Two of the ninja charged forward, one of them ended up with a foot in his face and the other had the blunt surface of a kunai. Simply put the pair was much too slow for the current Ryu, through training he had gained incredible chakra control and speed. The bandits didn’t go down easily though because they were back on their feet only moments after hitting the ground. “You can’t beat me like this.” The bandits looked at one another and smiled. They tried to punch Ryu and slash at him with unsharpened swords. He dodged each blow coming toward him. “Seriously too slow.” Weaving some hand seals Ryu backed away from the ninja and released a couple of flaming orbs. Fire Release: Exploding Flame Shot! Ryu had put minimal energy into the attack to keep the bandits alive. Sending the orbs forward Ryu detonated them before they hit the two. The resulting explosion though blew the two some feet away and scorch marks visibly lined their torso’s. Ewww! That looks like it hurts.
With their friends motionless on the ground the other five bandits ran forward. Ryu was about to run the opposite direction when one of the bandits was pulled into the sky by his friend Ezekiel. “Coming back down Ryu.” The bird said as it released the man from about twenty feet in the air. At least he’ll hit soft sand. Ryu thought dodging the other four bandit’s attacks while running for the one who was falling. The man plumped into the sand and Ryu was there in time to smash a fist into the man’s face, keeping him out of the rest of the fight. “That’s three only four more left. Ezekiel what do you got?” Closing in on the remaining bandit’s the bird beat its wings three times quickly creating a cyclone that smashed into the remaining four thugs, they spun in the air as the bird continued flapping. After a couple of seconds the bird began to fly again. Looking at the ninja they were all now covered in puke and were pretty motionless. The bird landed next to Ryu and looked at the people it had just made vomit. “Does this mean I win? I took out four and a half?” Ryu nodded as none of them seemed to be getting back up after that.
The ninja headed back to the man with the cart and lead him through the knocked out bandits. “What happened to these guys?” The man asked as he saw some of the men still groaning. “Umm… Ezekiel thought they should all take a ride inside of a tornado and yeah he beat them not me. I did punch a couple of guys though.” Ryu said pointing to the man with what looked like a broken nose. “Ezekiel said the area is pretty clear up ahead, so be safe I’m going to try and find the guy who got robbed.” Ryu waved to the man and he waved back, the two parted ways and Ryu walked in the direction the man had traveled. “It seems like the man was headed off toward the village. In a full sprint with Ezekiel Ryu headed back towards Suna.
Ezekiel traveled low to talk to Ryu as he ran. “You aren’t half bad I suppose your quick and your chakra seems to be pretty strong. I suppose I wouldn’t mind being summoned by you, but not a lot. Only summon me when I’m actually needed. After all do you think I wake up looking this great? It takes effort to look as wonderful as I do.” The ninja just shook his head in response to the bird. Likes to fight and groom himself, this one is way different from the others. He seems alright though, he helped that guy and didn’t even care that I was the only one thanked. “You’re a good bird.” The phoenix scowled at him. “Phoenix.” Ryu nodded his head, because he definitely should have known. Oh, yeah don’t call them birds, they don’t like it. “Hey Ezekiel would you mind flying around to see where the guy that got robbed is?” Without a response Ezekiel propelled itself higher and circled the sky like a flaming halo, within a minute the bird returned. “He’s about a mile to our right.” Ryu turned in the direction Ezekiel had indicated and with moments Ryu could see the man he was looking for. The man seemed scared that someone was running toward him, especially because that person was followed by a giant flaming bird. “Hey, wait I stopped the bandits!” The man didn’t slow down though, with regular people though it was only a matter of time before Ryu would catch up. It only took a minute to overtake the man. “I’m a ninja from the hidden sand, I stopped the bandits and need you to reclaim what they stole.” Nodding the man followed Ryu I’m going to go back to where they are in case they try to leave just meet me there, so that we can sort out what is yours.” The ninja picked up speed to return to the spot Ryu had taken care of the seven bandits.
At the spot where the bandits were Ryu and Ezekiel heard a man yelling, Ryu popped his head over the dune to take a look. “What the hell happened to all of you?” The man wearing a tan cape and gas mask lifted one of the men by the collar and was ready to punch him in the face before he spoke up. “There was a ninja and a giant bird.” Ezekiel perked his head up at the B-word. “I’m not a bird, I’m a phoenix!” screeched the bird as it took flight towards the men. Umm… I’ll back you up I guess. Ryu jumped off of the dune and toward what appeared to be the bandit leader. Ezekiel missed the man with his claws as the man used his comrade as a shield. That was cold, just sacrificed his friend just like that. The ninja drew a kunai and increased his speed as Ryu slashed the man raised a katana to block. “Guessing you’re the ninja that took down my guys. Pfft… You’re just a genin it looks like. Making hand seals for the great fireball jutsu Ryu couldn’t help but think of a comeback against the man. “I’m not just any genin, I can summon that!” Ryu yelled with lungs full of fire. The bird swooped down and began flapping its wings creating another cyclone. Using the additional wing Ryu spat the fireball directly into the whirlwind. “Seems we have our first collaboration technique.” The ninja said as the wind cyclone turned into a giant tornado made of fire. “I really hope that guys still alive.” With the fire cyclone cleared from the battlefield Ryu walked over to where the bandit now lay on the ground. “He looks alive, but he’s definitely unconscious right now. I guess I should give him some basic medical care.” Weaving more seals the palms of Ryu’s hand began glowing blue he placed them over the bandit whose breathing became more relaxed with each passing second. “Okay that’s enough, don’t need this guy getting back up and attacking.” Ezekiel agreed and walked around eating any food that happened to be left out. He’s kind of like a vulture.
After waiting for quite a bit the man finally arrived to claim his property. Some of the bandits were still knocked out, but occasionally one would regain consciousness and run the opposite direction of wherever Ryu or Ezekiel were standing. “Is that all of it?” Ryu asked the man who had now claimed everything the bandits had owned. The man nodded yes with a huge toothy grin and headed back to the village. The bandits kept camels in a separate area, but the man had claimed they were his, so Ryu let him take them. As Ryu waved to the man Ezekiel looked at him. “You know all of that wasn’t his right?” The waving slowed until it came to a halt. “It wasn’t?” The phoenix shook his head and laughed. “You know your kind of an idiot?” The ninja just looked up at the bird. “I’ve been told more than once.”
Ryu waved for the bird to follow him back to the village, Ezekiel followed along but insisted that he be de-summoned as soon as the village was close because by then it would be extremely close to grooming time. Ryu promised the phoenix that he would and as they spotted the gates. Ryu patted the bird and both said see you later as the phoenix disappeared in a cloud of smoke. It wasn’t hard to re-enter the village with a headband, the ninja just showed the others the identification on his arm. It didn’t seem as if anyone knew about a flaming bird spotted at the training fields, so Ryu assumed he and Ezekiel were safe.
At home Ryu opened a loaf of bread and removed on the pieces. He walked up to his room and focused on summoning Herodatus. He summoned the phoenix outside as he usually did and gave that bird the bread. “I promised you didn’t I?” The bird chirped as it ate the bread on the roof, then disappeared. This summoning thing takes a lot of work and chakra control. Too little I get Hero and too much I get Ezekiel, I saw some others at the cave. I wonder if I could summon Fawkes. Ryu turned off his lamp and went to lay in bed. He folded his arms to use as a resting post and closed his eyes. Another question for another day. I’m exhausted and it’s time for me to go to sleep.
