Water Prison
Tue Oct 25, 2016 7:37 am
Komori woke up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and forcibly making himself stand up. He scratched the back of his head as he walked into the kitchen and prepared some breakfast for himself before sitting down at the table. He ate in a routine manner, as he felt extremely bored with what he had been doing lately, which consisted of nothing special. He wanted to learn a new jutsu or practice for the upcoming chuunin exam, but instead felt a lack of drive to accomplish any of his goals. Today, he thought to himself, It’s time to switch things up a bit. Once he was finished with his breakfast, he deposited his bowl into the kitchen sink, not bothering to rinse it out only due to his sheer laziness. He felt slightly motivated and did not want to risk even dulling the newfound feeling which he had been searching for. He quickly grabbed his jacket, as the weather had begun to feel more chilly lately; although, he probably would have worn his jacket anyways.
In the spirit of switching things up, instead of visiting his usual spot for training, Komori walked up a wooden staircase that had been built one of the smaller, wider mountain peaks all the way to the top. The mountain that the stairs had been built around had been leveled at the top sometime throughout the cloud’s history. Rumor had it that it was the result of a tailed beast attack long ago in the past, but no one during that time was still alive now, so it remained a mystery. It stayed as a stone field that children occasionally came to play some recreational activities or the occasional other student came to train. A copper statue of the octopus like eight tailed beast, Gyuki, stood in the direct center of the clearing on a stone platform. The statue had a detailed depiction of what the tailed beast must have looked like, as there had not been any sightings of bijuu in the village for for a lengthy period of time. In fact, the only jinchuriki that Komori was aware of was the Village Hidden in the Cloud’s very own Raikage, who possessed the three tailed clone bijuu.
Komori had come here to learn the water prison jutsu, which required a rather consistent source of water. As the top of the mountain had no lake for him to stand on to channel the water, he decided to summon his own water source. He began moving his hands in order for him to make the hand seal chain that consisted of Bird → Rat → Ox → Monkey → Rat → Snake to activate the Rain Tiger at Will Technique. As they did when he had first learned it, a smaller cloud rose around him, in a similar manner to the effects of the Hidden Mist jutsu before the cloud began to expand in all directions at once. The cloud also rose higher into the air and became a central location in the sky immediately above Komori. Other clouds gathered in the sky and moved towards the central cloud that had been created by the Rain Tiger at Will Technique. The gathering clouds grew darker as they merged into a massive storm cloud, about a mile in diameter. The heavens unleashed a torrential downpour of water, which created puddles all around him in the lower indentations that could be found along the slightly uneven ground.
Before he had come to the mountain, he had made a quick stop by the library, despite being in the opposite direction. He had hurried up the stairs, not even stopping to greet Yuko the librarian whom he somewhat considered to be among his circle of friends. Instead, he went and, in the spirit of switching things up, picked up a random book from the shelves. He opened the book from the right side before he closed his eyes and began to flip through the pages. He then randomly picked a page to stop at and placed his index finger in a random position in the book. He hesitantly opened his left eye to get a glimpse of what he had chosen. The text read “Water Release: Water Prison Technique” and contained a detailed description of the move. The book read: “This technique is used to trap a victim inside a virtually inescapable sphere of water which forms the speed of this jutsu. The only downside to this technique is that the user must keep at least one arm inside the sphere at all times in order for the victim to remain imprisoned. This technique requires a sufficient amount of water, the target must be standing on it, or surrounded by it. Once trapped the target is unable to move while within it due to the heaviness of the water. Because of the density of the water it can be used, to a limited extent, for defensive purposes if performed on oneself.” The jutsu sounded appealing, so Komori quickly put the book back on the shelf in a haphazard manner before bolting down the stairs and out the door.
Komori suddenly came to the realization that he had come all this way without actually managing to bring a target for him to practice on using the Water Prison Technique. He walked towards the center and paced about the area for a little bit in order to look around for anything he could use as a target. There were a couple of children, one who was holding a ball that they must have been playing with, that were heading towards the wooden staircase. After considering for a moment, Komori shook his head in an attempt to rid himself of the thought of using younglings to practice a jutsu with the word “prison” in the name. Instead, he thought for a moment longer before snapping his fingers in his own form of an eureka moment. Komori invoked the clone handsign and shouted “Shadow Clone Jutsu!”, which caused a cloud of smoke to poof next to him that cleared away to reveal a perfect copy of himself who had his arms crossed.
“Hey buddy,” the original told the newly formed clone, “How are you?” The clone lowered his arms before saying, “If I know myself well enough, and I’m fairly certain that I do, then I know you’re going to ask something ridiculous.” He exhaled deeply. “What do you want?” the clone said in a resigned tone with extra emphasis on drawing out the word “want”. The original Komori grinned and said, “Just for you to stand still for a moment.”
Komori then began to use the chain of handseals that he had already practiced on the walk to the mountain that consisted of the Snake → Ram → Horse → Hare → Ram → Horse → Hare → Snake and Ox handseals before he clapped his hands together. He held his hand out in front of him towards his shadow clone. The water that was pouring down due to the effects of the Rain Tiger at Will Technique began to rise off the ground and move towards Komori’s hand. The water streamed down his arm, as it began to take shape, creating a relatively small sphere of water that surrounded his shadow clone, locking it inside. The clone reacted by shooting his hands out against the newly formed wall in a defensive manner. “Oh you have got to be kidding me,” he said in a mildly surprised voice. Komori shrugged, as much as he could with one arm staying in contact with the sphere of water.
He kept his mind primarily focused on the newly formed water prison. Komori was a tad obsessive compulsive, so he continually tried to keep the surge of water even and balanced in an attempt to make a perfectly smooth spherical prison. His clone pounded on the walls of the sphere before eventually giving up on trying to break free.
It was at this moment that Komori noticed Lilly approaching him under the dryness of an umbrella. He had no idea how she knew that he was here but was glad nonetheless. She waved at him which prompted Komori to wave back. Unfortunately, he absentmindedly used the hand which had been occupied with maintaining the sphere. The water splashed down and his clone dropped to the ground on his knees from his already crouched position while groaning.
“Aw, dammit.” Komori said as he dispelled the rain clouds above the mountain. The clone begrudgingly got up and brushed himself off. He looked at Komori with lowered brows to give off the impression of annoyance. Before he could speak up, Komori reformed the sphere of water around the clone, despite his protests. By that time, Lilly had finished making her way over to where he stood.
“Hey, Lilly, what brings you by?” She smiled, which she seemed to do quite often, and answered “Just came by to see what you were up to.” Her eyes focused on the trapped clone inside the sphere. He was using his fingers to trace out the letters to spell out the word “Help”. She shifted her gaze to Komori with a confused look on her face. He used his free arm to scratch the back of his head.
Golden sunlight beamed over the Komori gazed up at the statue of the eight tailed beast and felt nervous. “You say what I did to my clone,” Komori said. “I don’t want to risk breaking this statue, Lilly. Like this thing has been here for… I don’t even know how long. That's how long it's been here.” She rested her hand on his arm and gave him a warm smile, “You want to get stronger, right? You can't become stronger without taking risks. You need to trust yourself.” Komori took a deep breath and activated the clone seal, calling forth another shadow clone.
The shadow clone looked around at his surroundings before his eyes focused on Komori. “Aw, dammit, not this again.” Komori was rather confused and opened his mouth to ask a question, but the clone interrupted him, seemingly knowing his thoughts, “I'm the same one from earlier. You know, the one you killed.” Komori could taste the poison that accompanied that last word. The original spoke up, “Come on, buddy, one last try. You won't even be the test subject this time.” The clone seemed to accept this at face value and became ready to assist.
The two channeled water which was infused with his chakra from the plentiful puddles on the ground. The water moved along the outside of their respective bodies and gathered at the base of their extended arms before enveloping the bijuu statue in a sphere of water.
Water flowed from his arm to the statue as the remaining puddles composed of his chakra on the ground began moving closer towards him, gathering at his feet to aid the rather large water prison that encompassed the statue. Komori and his clone both kept continual contact with an arm per person, as the larger mass made it more strenuous on a single person. He focused even more than before, with the thought of the chuunin exams pushing to the forefront of his mind, and the image of Lilly cheering him on following shortly afterwards. He nodded to his clone to break away as the original Komori then began to bear the strenuous task of maintaining the orb. The clone threw a kunai at the orb to test its durability before attacking in a full fledged leap. The orb withstood the blow, seemingly an impenetrable fortress. The clone gave Komori a thumbs up before poofing away in a cloud of smoke, leaving Komori pleased with himself. Lilly clapped for him and ran to him, giving a big hug, swinging her arms to wrap around his entire body. Komori was slightly caught off guard, but then acquiesced and hugged her back. He reluctantly stopped holding her slender frame once he felt her pulling away, and the two pulled away from each other with slight awkward shyness. Komori broke the silence and the tension with a terrible joke as the two left the mountaintop, with Komori being one step closer to being ready for the chuunin exams.
