Path to Chuunin Part 1
Senshi bounced on the balls of his feet, it was time. He was both excited and nervous to see how well he would do. He had been approved to begin the path to a Chuunin. It was a series of missions meant to test him in every area, every aspect of being a shinobi. As he waited silently for the Chuunin to give him the scroll and announce that he could begin the very first of six missions he silently went over his skills with himself. He may be a weaponry specialist, focused on ensuring that he could keep an opponent at bay, however during his time as a Genin he had been sure to practice every aspect of the shinobi world. Partially because he didn’t know what else he really might be interested in, but mostly because he thought a good Genin should have a broad base of skills. True specialization was for the Chuunin’s and above. They were the ones that really showed the combat capabilities of a shinobi, Genin were really just force multipliers on a battlefield.
Shaking his thoughts away Senshi braced to attention as the door to the room he was standing in finally opened. He was in the mission building on a side room, just him and his thoughts. The door opened to reveal a Chuunin he had not had contact with. The man was carrying a small blue and red scroll in his hands and as he walked in he observed the young Genin before him. He spent several minutes just observing the boy before he finally spoke. “Genin Kobayashi, here is the scroll to start the Chuunin exams approval process. You will have one week to complete the mission, all the pertinent details are contained within.” With a light toss he sent the scroll flying to the dark haired boy who reacted on instinct catching it in midair. He had no chance to say anything else to the man as he quickly left, leaving the boy to his solitude once again.
Senshi briefly wished that he could take these tests with his team, but understood that such a thing was not possible. They needed to test the Genin’s individual capabilities, not their abilities as a team. Pushing his thoughts to the side he unrolled the scroll, reading it once through before starting to commit it to memory. His task was to approach a training building in the center of training ground 7 and collect a scroll. The building was set up to look like a maze on the inside, which he would need to navigate to discover the scroll. At the heart of the building the scroll would be placed, this is also where it got dangerous. Around the scroll would be three guards, to ensure realisticness with the training scenario and to prevent the Guards from becoming lax they would be replaced every 12 hours. At six am and six pm, if he was smart he wouldn’t want to attempt to approach the scroll during those hours.
It would double his chances of being caught trying to obtain it. His mission was to secure the scroll without any of the guards becoming aware of it. He was not to engage the enemy, as that would result in an instant failure. Senshi could see how this mission applied to shinobi in general. They would need to be capable of securing targets without being caught. Stealth was supposed to be a shinobi’s main weapon after all. Nodding to himself Senshi pocketed the scroll before heading to his home. Once there he dropped off his overly large sword in the designated spot he’d made in the room before moving to his closet. He withdrew his long dark cloak and laid it out on the bed before sitting in his desk. He had done a lot of stealth training on his own, so he felt relatively confident that he could make his way through the guards.
What he was concerned about was the actual navigation of the maze, and ensuring that he was not seen at any point. He did however, have a decent idea on how to navigate the maze. While he had yet to master the Mark tracking ability, he didn’t actually need that portion. With just the Mark seal he would be able to label turns and let himself know which way he had gone. Fuuinjutsu was such a rare specialization, which despite the low level aspect of the mission Senshi was certain that the Chuunin they used wouldn’t recognize the tiny seals in the maze. He was also willing to bet that the maze was dimly lit, which would add to his ability to place seals in out of the way areas. He resolved that once he entered the maze, he would place the seals in the lower left corner of the actual turn. Most shinobi wouldn’t bother checking an area so close to the ground with the scrutiny required to recognize the tiny seals.
It would also prevent Senshi from having to use too much chakra, in the event some of the shinobi there knew the Chakra Sensory skill. His own skill with Chakra Suppression was still growing, but he knew with his small reserves and lack of potency he would be able to hide his chakra much better than most Chuunin. Definitely better than they would expect from a Genin attempting his first trial. Pushing these thoughts away Senshi checked the time, it was only eight in the morning. He could spend the rest of the day not only prepping for the night but also in scouting the building out. He could get a general idea of the lay of the land and plan escape routes before he ever entered the building. Throwing the black cloak on him left his sword as he headed to the location. He wouldn’t need the sword since this was a strictly non-combat mission.
He focused on hiding his chakra, with the Chakra Suppression skill as he left his home using all the stealth he was capable of. He flicked from shadow to shadow, his eyes watching the area around him as he went. He wasn’t sure that this was strictly necessary since all the guards were located inside the building but he didn’t want to take any chances. This was his first mission on the path to become a Chuunin and he wanted to make a stellar performance on all of them. That meant taking each mission as seriously as possible, that is what a good shinobi would do after all and if Senshi had one dream in the world it was to be recognized as a Good Shinobi by his Raikage. It took well over and hour for the young Genin to make his way through the city and into the training grounds. He was decently sure he had managed it without tipping anyone off to what he was doing.
Once he was in the training grounds, he extended his senses using the chakra sensory ability he had developed to send out small pulses in search of anyone near him. He couldn’t feel any signatures in the direction he was traveling though he could feel several signatures training not too far off. Ignoring them he made his way towards Training Ground seven, focusing on staying in the shadows and leaving no tracks behind. He had plenty of time to scout the area and make a few plans before returning home for a nap to prepare for his night time activities. The Chuunin would be expecting him to strike at night as it would enhance his stealth and while Senshi would oblige them, he would come in fully prepared. He had plenty of time to prepare after all. When he finally arrived on the outskirts to the training building he was not surprised to see that he would have to cross thirty meters of completely open area just to access the building.
Didn’t want to make it too easy after all. Moving along the outer edge of the clearing he kept his eyes glued tight to the building across from him. While doing so he also moved extraordinarily slowly, his chakra compressed into a firm tight ball in his core. He didn’t see any movement, but that could mean little. He let loose a small pulse of chakra and inside the building he felt two responding cores. He let loose another searching for the third as he completed his first circle around the building, yet he still could not feel it. That meant the third person was suppressing their chakra, which would make this mission more difficult as he wouldn’t be able to sense them ahead of time. Yet it also made sense in the fact that a shinobi couldn’t count on always knowing where their opponents were. During his second lap around the building Senshi focused on its exterior.
It was built like many of the buildings in Kumo, a sturdy brick exterior with a wooden interior. Senshi could see that the building was in slight disrepair, some of the bricks were loose and had fallen off showing the wooden interior underneath it. Senshi was pleased to note that there was a section of the wall near one of the entrances that had a section in disrepair. He was pretty sure that he would be able to perform a substitution with one of those brick sections. He would need to practice before hand to make sure thought. As he continued around the building looking for any weaknesses in the exterior he was disappointed to see there where none. He had counted seven doors on the bottom floor, four of which had something nearby that he could switch with. But he knew that just because he switched near that door did not mean he had to use it.
He could sneak around towards one of the two doors that looked barely used. He certainly didn’t want to use an entrance that seemed common or easy, that’s where he would have definitely put a guard to watch. Using his chakra sensory he tried to locate if there was any shinobi near any of the doors and was pleased to find out that he couldn’t. At least for now he knew he could access the doors without worrying about immediately failing. He would need to keep in mind to check the doors for any booby traps that might alert someone that an intruder was there. On his third lap he put an extra focus into the area around the building. He could see some slight disturbed earth in places on the way towards the building. He surmised that these must be traps put in place to catch the more unwary Genin’s attempting this missions.
As he moved through the woods, he kept his eyes for any traps in the area but couldn’t locate any. He had figured that if they were going to trap the land between the woods and the buildings that they might also trap the wooded area. Apparently they didn’t want to make it too hard on the prospective chuunins though. He wouldn’t be surprised to see the missions go up in difficulty as he progressed through them though. Looking at the sun Senshi noted that it was almost noon, he had been here for quite a while scoping the area. With that in mind he turned leaving the training grounds and working his way back towards his room. He’d grab some lunch and study a bit up on some Fuuinjutsu lock breaking skills. He didn’t know if this mission would require those types of skills but he wanted to be sure. Once he arrived back in his room he threw the cloak down before heading down stairs. His mother was out for now so he pulled some rice and fish from the fridge reheating it and returning to his room.
Once there he pulled out his newest book on fuuinjutsu and flipped a few pages absentmindedly eating his food as he did so. He leaned back throwing his feet up on his desk in an undignified display that he would be ashamed if anyone saw him at. But this was the place that he felt the safest in, the one place where he felt he could completely relax. He flipped through the book his eyes roaming over the words hungrily as he read up on more advanced Locking and breaking Fuuinjutsu skills. The book went into extreme detail on how to specifically form ones chakra to increase the durability of a seal. It also conversely covered how to twist ones chakra to break a seal. When someone formed their chakra to create a seal it made small marks that a shinobi could use to recognize it.
Due to the basicness of their function, locking seals at the lower levels were incredibly easy to recognize, and thus break if someone put in the correct amount of study. After a half an hour of reading the book Senshi was ready to try his hand at using the D rank version of the locking and unlocking versions. Moving to his door he removed the E rank seal he currently had there before placing the palm of his hand on the door. Pulling on his chakra he focused on twisting it like he usually did with the Fuuinjutsu locking seal, but then pushed more power into it as well as twisting it counter clockwise, and then in a full corkscrew. Once he did this he visualized the seal locking the door closed to anyone who couldn’t unravel it. He opened his eyes and was pleased to see a small black mark on the door. It was smaller than his old E rank seal, and as Senshi leaned in a bit to inspect the work he could see the new twists and small writing in the pattern of the seal.
After reading the book he knew that these denoted both more power, and the complexity of using ones chakra to remove it. Slipping over to the window he repeated the process of unlocking the seal he had placed and then focusing his chakra to twist it around. It took almost a minute again, but the seal quickly appeared on the ledge. He smiled, at least now his room was even more secure than before. While it wouldn’t keep out a studious Genin, it was better than having nothing. He leaned forwards inspecting this seal as well, pleased to see that it was almost the exact same as the other seal on his door. It had small differences in the power of it and in the twists of it. It was still a D rank locking fuuinjutsu seal, it just differed in its basic design. Moving back to his desk Senshi flopped into it pulling the book open to renew his studying.
He needed to make sure he recognized all the basic variations of the D rank seal in order to ensure that if he did encounter one he could then use his abilities to remove it. Recognizing a seal was usually the most difficult part of something. Unlocking it mainly relied on using ones chakra to break the power holding the seal together. In order to break the seal a shinobi needed to know how to follow the pathways of the other seal and break them. It required first pushing ones chakra into the seal, in the same pattern of twists and turns that the creator had before then using ones chakra to super charge the seal and cause it to destabilize at its weakest point. While Senshi might not have the raw power such a technique required he backed it up using his studies and knowledge of just how a seal worked. This way he found the weakness in the seal and exploited it, without having to just use chakra to burn it out.
He checked the time to find I was almost three in the afternoon, deciding that now was as good a time as any he set his alarm for seven pm before laying down for a nap. He needed to be as rested as possible in order to check the site out tonight. At precisely seven Pm his alarm woke the boy with a start. He jerked awake not surprised to see it was dark outside all ready. In the winter the sun went down much earlier. Grabbing his weapons pouches and equipping them both on him checked over his attire before grabbing his long, flowing black cloak and heading down stairs. He was briefly surprised to see that no one seemed to be in the house but pushed the thoughts of it off. They may have decided to go out to dinner tonight, leaving their youngest to end for himself. He quickly pulled out some left overs of chicken tempura and rice before reheating it and feeding himself. Once he had cleaned up the small mess he had made he exited his house slinking through the streets with all the stealth he had.
It didn’t take nearly as long to make his way to the training grounds, and from there to the building sitting in number sevens area. Once he was on the periphery of the building he settled himself into a shadow and focused on his chakra bringing it forth until he could sense two presences in the building. He couldn’t find the third and pushed off his worry about that for now. He didn’t plan on attempting to complete the mission today anyway, he was more focused on gathering more Intel. He was no stealth prodigy so it wouldn’t do for him to try and act like he was by attempting to set some kind of record. Pushing his thoughts away he began the first test he had planned out. A few short hand seals and the boy replaced himself to the other side of the clearing. Once there he slunk into the shadows moving thirty degrees to his right and watching the spot he had used to appear in. After a solid ten minutes of no response from the base he began the second part of his tests; a series of substitutions throughout the area.
He never approached the building instead choosing to substitute across the building and simply use a low amount of chakra to test and see if the guards had chakra sensory capabilities. For ten minutes he continued to substitute around the clearing, always staying in the woods. He paused after the ten minutes hiding himself as best he could and waited. Still no one came out of the building to check and see who had been using chakra. Upping the ante to test number three, he used a body flicker to quickly cross through the top most part of the clearing before concealing himself again. He once again waited at least ten minutes to see if there was a response and when nothing occurred, he started test number four. Much like test number two, except with the body flicker. The body flicker used more chakra and thus would be easier to sense for the shinobi inside if they were using any chakra sensory abilities.
He proceeded to body flicker around the periphery of the clearing, spending a solid ten or twelve minutes moving around with the enhanced chakra. He hid himself again waiting to see if anyone reacted. He was mildly disappointed when nothing happened. Either the guards were lacking in their duties, or they didn’t have any chakra sensory capabilities. He took a good hour break, just watching the building to see if anything would happen. He was happy that he had spent a few D rank missions learning to hone his observational skills, or else he would have missed a single Chuunin exiting the building and flitting around it. He checked every door before doing a light jog through the clearing. It seemed random but when he retraced his steps Senshi noticed that he was clearly avoiding something in the ground.
He waited another thirty minutes before using the substitution jutsu to replace himself with a small brick near one of the doors. He made a note of where he had been prior so he could quickly switch back to it and hide if he needed to. As he felt his feet touch the dirt he crept silently to the closest door, keeping a sharp eye on the ground for any traps as he moved slowly. Checking the door he noted it had no seal or anything on it and his chakra sensory skill couldn’t detect any residual chakra that would tell him something was there. He proceeded to check all of the doors, moving slowly and keeping a sharp eye out. Two of the seven doors had a fuuinjutsu lock he didn’t recognize as it was above his skill level, two had what he felt sure were D rank fuuinjutsu locks, one had an E rank fuuinjutsu lock that he was familiar with, and the final two doors had nothing sealing them shut. Senshi placed a mark seal on the two doors with the D rank locks, these would be his choice of entry points he decided.
It had taken almost four hours to conduct his search of the outside of the building and study the seals and as he let loose a pulse of chakra to check the area his hands quickly flashed through the seals replacing himself with the brick he had used earlier. He could now see from his new vantage point a different Chuunin from before stalking through the area checking the surroundings. Settling himself in the boy continued his watch of the area, unsurprised when after another four hours the Chuunins repeated their search procedures. It gave Senshi at least a general idea of how the Chuunins were operating. As the sun began to rise Senshi set off back to his home. He hadn’t done much through the night but he was tired. It was as he started to move that he froze, his chakra sensory ability had alerted him to three incoming chakra signatures.
Pushing himself into the shadows he watched quietly as the three Chuunin approached the building, using the same weird pattern as the others to navigate their way through what was obviously a booby trapped area. Senshi settled into his spot, determined to take this opportunity to watch the changing of the guard. While he couldn’t see exactly what was happening he did feel a sixth chakra appear in the building and then one of the three incoming chuunin’s chakra disappeared from his senses. It was during this transition that he was able to sense that the concealed Chuunin was hiding somewhere deep inside the building. He wasn’t skilled enough with the technique yet to sense exactly where in the building without being significantly closer but, going on all the books on tactics and strategy he had read over the past few months he had an idea. The cloaked Chuunin was undoubtedly hiding nearest to the objective, it was probably a ploy to draw in experienced Genin then when they became over confident sneaking through the first two guards, and the third appeared ending their hopes for promotion before they had really even begun.
If this was how they were operating it was a dastardly ploy indeed, for many young Genin would become overconfident when they were feet from the prize. He would need to ensure he was extra careful with how he handled himself inside or he would find himself dishonoring himself, his family, and his team with a bad showing. As these thoughts raced through his mind the three night guard Chuunin exited the building heading back towards town. Deciding that it would be beneficial to follow them Senshi kept far back, ensuring to use as little chakra as possible and to hide in every available shadow as he followed them back to the village.
As Senshi followed them he was surprised when they stopped at a local restaurant, a well-known breakfast place. He was unsure if he should follow them in but decided that the possibility of gathering more Intel was worth it. He obviously couldn’t go in as himself but a slight smile and a few quick hand signs and Senshi looked exactly like his teammate Shoyu Reizo. He had henged the boy’s typical purple top and pants as well. He felt that he knew the boy’s mannerisms well enough to fool a few Chuunin who probably didn’t know him. Walking into the restaurant, Senshi was pleased to be seated near enough the Chuunin that he could mostly make out what they were saying without being too close to them to draw extra attention to himself. As he ordered a breakfast of salmon, rice, a bowl of fruit, and some hot green tea he kept his ears peeled.
For several moments the Chuunin’s simply sat in silence before one finally spoke, his tone bored and tired as he did so, “Man I hate these Chuunin trial missions, especially this one. When do you think the Genin is going to make his attempt?” One of the other Chuunin looked around cautiously before offering a slight shrug while the oldest of the bunch raised on of his hands in an odd gesture. “Not sure, but probably tonight or tomorrow. That’s the usual. Not like he’ll manage well. Word is he’s really young, he’ll either fall prey to you sitting hidden near the scroll or get lost in the maze.” Senshi mentally glared at the eldest Chuunin, just because he was young didn’t mean that he would fail. That was a terrible idea to base someone’s abilities off of age. Max, his teammate, was younger than him yet skilled in his own ways. Senshi didn’t think these Chuunin’s could beat Max and Napa in fight, even if they did manage to close with the young boy.
“I don’t know, I’m pretty sure I’ve met the kid before and he seemed pretty solid. Plus really you know this maze is the one that just alternates anyways. I think he’ll figure out that as long as he follows the left, right, center pattern he’ll reach the scroll easy.” Senshi’s ears perked up and he felt himself sit straighter at the Chuunin’s words. It couldn’t be that easy could it? He noticed one of the Chuunin making shushing gestures and he had to relax his posture as they started whispering to each other. He couldn’t quite make out what was being said now but he could see out of the corner of his eyes that their food had arrived. His own arrived slightly after and he turned part of his focus into consuming the delicious meal. The rest of the Chuunin’s conversation lapsed into general small talk about what training they would be conducting that day.
He hadn’t realized he was going up against an established team of Chuunin. He would need to be even more careful now to ensure that he passed. These Chuunin, and likely the others were used to working together and would be able to cover each other’s weak points easier. Senshi wondered briefly if he would be allowed to stay with Reizo, Max, and Itami-Taichou if he was promoted ahead of them. He was sure that both of the other boys would be attempting the trials soon as well so chances were they would all be promoted around the same time. He was certainly not above the other boys when it came to skills. While he was better with weapons and fuuinjutsu, Reizo had his taijutsu capabilities and far more potent chakra. While Max had his puppetry abilities, and was extraordinarily slippery compared to most people.
They were a team that complimented each other quite well, Senshi felt decently sure they would be allowed to stick together. Pushing those thoughts away he enjoyed sipping on his green tea while the Chuunins left. He relaxed in his seat for an extra fifteen minutes before heading out of the restaurant. He didn’t want the Chuunin’s to realize he had followed them by leaving too close to them. He was frankly tired, and had learned a lot of information already. He didn’t need to risk following the Chuunin anymore. With those thoughts he headed to his own home, releasing the transformation in a dark alley along the way. Once he arrived home he discarded his cloak, sitting down at his desk he pulled his Fuuinjutsu book closer to him and started flipping through it. It took several minutes before he found what he was looking for. The seals he had seen were D rank, and if he practiced for part of today he would be able to unlock either one with ease.
He flipped ahead and checked to see if the other seals were C rank and was surprised to find one was a C rank and the other was a B rank. He definitely wouldn’t be able to study enough to learn to unlock the C or B rank ones by the end of the week. He was only just beginning to unlock the D ranks with his studying and would need to read up quite a bit just to progress to the next level. It looked like he would have to write both of those doors off, but it was fine he still had five other doors to choose from. Using the D rank locked doors should afford him more surprise than the E rank or the completely unlocked doors. Placing the book back after he had thoroughly refreshed himself and practiced forming his chakra accordingly for several minutes he began to practice with the D rank locking and unlocking skills.
He would place a locking seal on his desk drawer and then unlock it. He repeated this several times using all the D rank seals he had studied multiple times in order to increase his proficiency. By the time he felt more confident in himself it was almost ten o’clock. Standing he headed out his bedroom window moving towards the library. He needed to check a couple things out before he went back to scope the area tonight. He had already decided that he wouldn’t make the attempt tonight just to be safe and hopefully increase the tiredness of the Chuunins. Not to mention another night of surveillance would allow him to ensure he understood the Chuunins operating procedures. He soon arrived at the library and spent the next three hours looking through basic trapping information and how to correctly identify them.
He would be putting this to the test tonight, to see if he could accurately identify the traps in the area. He wanted to have a good working understanding of the traps he would need to deal with while approaching the building. He was certain there would be more inside the building and he could use this knowledge to work with them as well. Around one he headed back to his house and collapsed into his bed, his alarm set to go off at seven pm. He roused quickly once his alarm went off and was quick to dress and head down stairs for a dinner with his family. He kept quite during it to ensure that no sensitive information on his mission got out. It might not be classified but it was certainly a good practice to get into. He didn’t want to make the same mistakes that the Guard Chuunins had in letting a potential threat gain information on something they shouldn’t have.
Once dinner had concluded he headed back to Training ground seven, utilizing all the stealth he had to approach the area. He spent the first four hours just observing the building and mapping out the traps he could identify. He had noted at least three pitfalls, a couple of bear trap type items, several exploding tag type traps and along the periphery he noted several log type traps. He didn’t feel confident that he had identified them all just yet thought. He was also pleased to see that the Chuunin were holding to the same standard as the day before. Checking the area every four hours. He moved through the woods cataloging as many traps as he could and what he could discern as the clear path through the area. He maintained a stiff chakra suppression on his body the entire time, not wanting to risk the Chuunin’s catching wind of him.
At the end of the night Senshi again followed the Chuunin’s back to the village and what was apparently their breakfast hang out spot. This time he transformed into Max to have breakfast thinking that it might become suspicious if they saw the same Genin having breakfast there two days in a row when he had never before done so. This time he didn’t manage to glean any new information from the trio, instead just hearing them complain about the mission and how long did they think he, Senshi, would bide his time before attempting it. Senshi returned home to conduct more review in the D rank locking and unlocking seals before again heading to the library. He spent an extra hour there going over traps, considering what his plan was for this night. It was the third day of his mission and about time that he inspected more of the building.
Come night fall Senshi found himself in the trees watching the building. He was confident that he had recognized all the traps on the outside that he could. Using a replacement jutsu he landed next to one of the E rank locked doors. Quickly unsealing it, he cracked the door and felt along the edges. As he did so his slow moving hands came into contact with a string. Letting his eyes adjust to the low light of the inside of the building he pulled to door open slightly more for a better view. He could see that the string was connected to what looked like a jumble of metal. It was clear that if he opened the door any more that they would all jangle together alerting the Chuunin of his presence. The same would occur if he cut the wire, as the tension release would cause it to happen.
Senshi was lucky that he was just small enough to slip through the crack he had created. If he had been carrying his sword then he most definitely would have set the trap off. Slipping into the building he slowly closed the door to prevent any of the Chuunin knowing he had entered, he also reapplied an E rank locking seal to the door. With that complete he snuck forwards. Before him were large floor to ceiling walls that looked at least three inches thick. He let loose a small pulse of chakra and was amazed to feel two of the Chuunins. Not just feel them but know their location in the building as well. One was near one of the unlocked doors, while another was part way between himself and what Senshi was sure was the center of the building.
He knew from his information gathering that the third Chuunin was near the scroll. He moved forwards as silently as possible, following the directions he had gotten from his information gathering time. As he moved his eyes roamed the area, he had already noted several traps that he had been forced to avoid. It had been simple to get around them as it seemed they were primarily targeting those who were rushing or overconfident. To Senshi this entire first preliminary mission had seemed meant to weed out those who were completely unfit for the task of even being a Genin. It made sense to get rid of the weakest contenders quickly. He was surprised that all of the traps were live, it was clear to the boy that anyone could die doing this missions.
As befitted its B ranking at the mission office. An unprepared Genin should definitely not be attempting these things. Senshi wondered briefly just how many of the contenders for entering the Chuunin exam had died while doing just this mission let alone the others. Shaking his thoughts off the boy stalked forwards, when he was within ten feet of the second chuunin he slunk into the shadows. His dark eyes peered out around the maze as he slunk forwards. He moved slowly taking a full half an hour to make it near the Chuunin. He could see the man clinging to the top of the wall his eyes peering around. Senshi was able to keep himself pushed into the shadow around a corner. He settled in watching the man. If he had timed it correctly then in another fifteen minutes this Chuunin should be leaving to check the area.
At exactly the point Senshi heard a hiss and then a microphone that the Chuunin was carrying informed him to check the perimeter. Senshi watched as the man used what he assumed was a fuuinjutsu seal to phase through the walls and head to check the area. He moved forwards now watching carefully as he did so. It took him almost two hours to navigate the maze until he was standing but a few scant meters from the scroll. He could just barely see the final Chuunin that was watching over the scroll and settled himself in for a serious wait. It was incredibly boring but at the two hour mark the hiss of a microphone alerted the ever so patient boy that his quarry was moving to check the area. He needed to move fast as the changing of the guards would be happening in a few minutes. Senshi slunk forwards barely avoiding an explosive tag array that was around the scroll.
Once he was standing next to the scroll he noted the small fuuinjutsu seal locking it in place, it was a very simple E rank. Unlocking it he picked the scroll up and was surprised to suddenly find himself standing in the mission room he had started in. His stomach rolled violently with the effects of the sudden teleportation. He fought down the nausea as a Jounin walked into the room offering Senshi an appraising eye. “So you managed to get the scroll, and I don’t think the Chuunin even know yet. Decent job. Your performance will be evaluated and a carrier Pidgeon or courier ninja will deliver news of the results to you in a few days.” Senshi nodded, his facial expression stuck in an almost stunned look. He handed the scroll over quietly before heading towards his home. The sun hadn’t risen yet and the young boy was determined to eat a good breakfast before starting in on his training. Just judging by how dangerous this first mission was he would need to train hard to ensure he was prepared for the follow on missions.

Task: Inside the villages there is not a training center that allows nin to hone their skills when attempting to rank up in their respective areas. Once such room is dedicated to the arts of sneaking into a restricted area and stealing information. This area is a maze of corridors and pathways that intersect and cross. This area is monitored and guarded by three sentries that protect the scroll. Your job is to infiltrate and get the scroll without being seen, the mission ends when you touch the scroll.
No harm is to befall the sentries, if you attack them, consider that mission failure. If you are seen, mission failure.
