Beafosu Path to Chuunin pt. 1 Empty Beafosu Path to Chuunin pt. 1

Mission:

Beafōsu woke up with great emotion. She had a dream the night before of great proportion, one that both scared her and gave her hope. Actually, the only redeeming part was that she did not die.. and that she was wearing not a Chuunin Vest, but a Jounin Vest, so not that hopeful. The rest of the dream was horrific though. She was walking in a familiar woods which immediately came to mind as home. As she stepped through the forest, she heard a specific call that her family used and immediately ran towards it without thought, upon getting to the sound, all she saw was Hoshi-nin, standing over her dead parents and brother. Then, they ran at her but instead of attacking, she stood motionless and just teleported away without even knowing how the hell she did it. Anyway, she woke up immediately after to her alarm, her breath and heart rate racing. Waking up and looking at her calender, a smile immediately lit up her face. Today was when the first day of the chuunin exams would be available. Her appointment was set, and it was potent to not wear out her body now, so she woke Waizu no pō and they went out to get an actual bite to eat. Going to the local cafe, she saw ninja galore, some Genin with their friends, even some Chuunin and Jounin grabbing a bite. Sitting in the booth, she stared at the menus. One small thing caught her eye, in the corner read this, “Exam Day! Have some breakfast on the house.” Perfect she thought, seeing her usual order of an omelette, she ordered it and waited….. and waited and waited until it was getting tiring. She then walked into the area, and asked where the omelette was to a simple response of an apology. Ok, everything was fine. Receiving and eating her omelette, she walked out down to the building, for it was time to get serious.

This walk down town was not like her previous journeys to the training facilities, and she was kind of glad about that. Those ones were normally filled with sadness and hate for the world around her and this whole “Beafōsu-hating Hoshigakure Missing-Ninja”. But today was special, for it was the day that she was on her way to become a Chuunin and receive the Kumogakure Chuunin Vest, and be that much closer to being stronger and protecting those she loved. Normally, the training buildings were closed off, but 3 times a year, they opened for two months to allow testing and advancement among the aspiring new Genin to promote their abilities and responsibilities as a ninja. The buildings were arranged as such; three building facing north, and two facing towards south. They were huge tall blocks really, and they all looked exactly the same except for one feature. On the flat, monotone, roofs of each black building, there were the kanji for their order, One, Two, Three, Four, Five.

Walking up to the first building, there was this HUGE line. And when you think huge, imagine that ten fold. It was stretching out the door, across the block, even towards the field that she had trained so much on. So it was quite the journey to the end, rushing through the crowd, a thought popped into her mind. “Why the hell  did she not see this line before? Man, I guess people thought 9:30 was the time to get in.” And just her luck. Her appointment was at 9:45. Staying as calm as ever, she waited, and waited…. and waited. Until, it was 9:43 and the line had only slightly moved. There was a problem. However, she heard one of the Genin in front of her say something about fire… and it was the exact same words he used a minute ago, and a minute before that, and so on. Then she caught on. The test was not only what lies ahead of her, but how to get there. Bumping into the person ahead of her, she felt skin, but it felt a little soft. Shadow Clones! Walking through them, they poofed, and poofed and poofed. She quickly arrived at the door, panting and wobbling her legs, but she could not just give in now. She had to continue. In front of her, at the door, was a tall woman, about 6’8” with a big muscular build and blond hair. Familiar face too, she just shrugged and took the piece of paper that was being handed to her. Eagerly looking down at the paper, she saw a spark, and although a little slow to the draw, she saw it inching towards a seal, and so she read the paper ever so quickly and threw the paper on the ground. As soon as it hit the ground, it went boom, and it was a loud boom too. She really did not have time to read each and every word. But she found what she needed. “... maze…scroll…” That was enough. The scenery was completely different from what a “maze” to be like. It was not your usual bleak arrangements of passages, no, this was interesting. All of these walls were made from brick and vines, as if it was a village or city rotting away. It was not made to be a simple retrieval mission, it was made as if this was my job in a town that actually had evidence I needed to steal. Now what was the point of the explosive tag? Sure it could have just been a way to get the Genin’s blood pumping.. but then she could smell it, three bodies, hidden across the room. Of course! Why would they test your ability to find a scroll if they was no opposition. Now she knew. She can NOT get caught, which means she can not even attack them. Stealth was not really her thing, but it had to be now. And there she and Waizu no pō were, just standing there, waiting to be caught. She had to move! Looking at Waizu no pō, she nodded as if they always knew the way they had to go. Running ahead, they found a small crevice with looking spots in it and stayed put.

One, two, and three, no wait was that the same one? So far these guards seemed to be just regular old jounin, probably volunteers. But there was three of them, she thought. So she needed to be on high alert. She seemed to be thinking into space for far too long, as she heard footsteps closing near her… jumping up she performed the handsigns Dog → Boar → Ram → to be transformed into a simple dog so there was not much to look at. (125/130 AP) There they were, a dog and a bear, nothing too eye catching. Man, she hated having to do this. She was never too fond of the other animals that had alliances with the Chōkyōshi, and transforming into one just made her feel weird. But she had to, it was definitely better than a cat or an eagle, and it seemed to belong in this setting. Of course, walking on all fours was not new, so it was fine. Looking around, she saw that the coast was clear and released her transformation. Now she was on top of the wall and would be able to see a lot more things clearly, she got right to work. Of course, she had to move quickly due to the fact that she was kind of in plain sight. But there it was, a sealed off area with what appeared to be a scroll. Racing down, she must have not been paying attention because before she knew it, she was hearing the sound of running footsteps inching closer to her every second. She had no time to really dig into her mind and be able to transform into an accurate depiction of the glimpse of a guard she saw, and to be honest, she probably was not going to be accurate enough to fool someone. So it was time to employ a new trick. Halting near the corner of the turn, the moment she saw the guards, apparently all traveling together, a good thing for Beafōsu, she formed the Boar sign. But then she got this idea, to not be tracked further as if this was a real mission, she should cover up her Kumogakure symbol on her vest and her face for identification purposes. Grabbing a piece of fabric off of the wall next to her, she applied it over the symbol and her face and then cast the hand signs Boar → Rat. Instantly she was transported into each of the guards minds. She had known this feeling before and she knew the direct route, but it took some time as all the brains were slightly different in their configuration as well as the transition from one mind to another. However, after she was done, she saw the Mist Servant Technique, a jutsu that makes it appear as those clones of the user are slowly creeping towards the opponent, enact and the fear in these guards enlarge tenfold. (109/130 AP) She saw this as an opportunity to get away, but her body did not agree with her in the slightest. Getting away from the guards was not something she could do for ever as she had already been running for as long as she had been. So she decided it was time to find a safe spot. Quickly getting to a vantage point, she scurried around the city like maze structure and searched around for a spot that fit three distinct conditions. One: it had to be a point that Beafōsu and Waizu no pō could fit into one line, with arms out, and still have a decent amount of wiggle room. Judging their wingspan, it would have to be around 7ft. Wide. Based on what she had already seen through this, very strange and pushing, exam, it would be hard to find something that did not fit this condition. Two: This place must have at least four exits. Obviously, it’s not going to be four on the ground, so there has to be at least one above him. Now she is starting to look back and doubt not getting that Hide Like a Mole technique. In a situation like this, well really in nearly any situation, it is going to be useful and she needs to get to that fast. And lastly, but maybe even one of the most important ones, it must be in sprinting distance of what she at least is pretty sure is the scroll. Of course the first two need to be met, but the closer it is is the better.

Going deeper into the maze, this seemed to be getting a lot harder than she thought. Every step was painstaking to do, but she needed to find a spot. Plus, finding this spot was easier seen than done. Everything looked so similar now and nothing in a good way. When she first entered, it all seemed so easy and distinguishable as if it was tourist spot, welcome for all and easy for everyone to navigate. But now, it truly seemed like a maze. Every step she made felt as though she made no progress. After a while of searching and preserving as much energy as she could, she realised something detrimental to her mission… she had no idea where she was in perspective of the scroll she had seen. That was something that was important to her mission, and she needed to get back on track as soon as possible. However, every step took way more energy than needed so she needed to take a break. She eventually found a spot that at least fit the first two requirements, and took a seat. There was sweat running down her body and pouring out of every pore. She could see that Waizu no pō was not having it either, so she grabbed the lunch she had in her satchel and took out. Not really feeling the sandwich that morning, she just grabbed two apples and stuffed them in. Sitting down felt nice and relaxing, the fact that she was so tired already was kind of strange, but she pushed it off and dove into her food. Once she took a bite, she just kept on stuffing and stuffing. Bad idea. Sadly, Waizu no pō also had the same idea and devoured her food in an instant. There they were, sitting in a Conor, still a little week, and having no more food. Perfect. Well, seeing no other real option, Beafōsu stood up and decided it was time for her journey. Since those Mist Servants did not actually do any damage without her there, the fact that the guards were back on her tail was probably evident. She and Waizu no pō needed to move now. Remembering only a slight bit of how to retrace her steps backward to where the guards first were would be difficult, but she tried to do it. Walking backwards was a little weird in its own right, but that was really the only way she could actively remember each step, so it had to be done. After about 3 or so turns however, she blanked hard. Nothing was coming to her mind and she had a hard time deciding where she actually came from, what way was the scroll. But then, a thought popped into her head, if there was so much room in this maze, which for some god-forsaken reason, felt endless. Then why would the “important information” inside the scroll she was supposed to get be so close to the entrance? That thought changed her whole way of looking at this mission. She was supposed to worry about that. She was supposed to see the “scroll” so close to the door. Of course! No village would be that stupid!

She now had focus and concentration devoted to this mission. She always should have had it, but this realization paved a way to where she was so encouraged, she did not feel hungry or tired! Right when she got up to move, she must have activated something, or it was activated remotely. The wall Waizu no pō and her had been sitting against starting to inch its way toward them, and the wall across from them did the same. A closing wall trap! She had seen this before and heard about it in the academy and she kind of freaked out. It was a deadly trap that even some jounin could not get out of. But this was life or death. As the doors inched closer, her mind scattered with ideas. But then she had one. When learning to spin her body at ferocious speeds with the Passing Fang technique, she had accidently broken down a huge tree in the training grounds… yes, a huge tree. So, since she knew the power of it, she took a small run and leap in the direction of one of the closing walls and spun her body. Much to her hoping, Waizu no pō did the same and the force of the two blasts combined was enough for them to smash through the wall (97/130 B, 178/190 W AP). However, smashing through concrete does not sound like a feather falling and right when she regained balance, all she heard were running footsteps and three voices, the voices of the guards, yelling at each other…. Not good! It seemed the guards knew this place like the back of their hand since the footsteps were getting louder and louder by the second. Many thoughts raced through her head but no actual solution to come to mind other than run. So that is what she did. Running in a maze was one of the worst things you could possibly do since you never know what do and what lies ahead, but it was all she could do. However, due to this landscape being similar to a village in some of the parts, she was able to find a house through searching with her adrenaline filled eyes, and she ran inside and found a place with no windows and with furniture obstructing any view inside the residency. Right as she got comfortable and in position, she heard the yells from mere meters away. As expected, one of them had been close to her already and every second was inching their way closer towards the aspiring Kumo-ninja. Millions of thoughts raced through the girl's head, multiple ideas and formalities. But one in specific kept shouting in the maze that was the human mind’s train of thought. Be Natural. Within the years that she has been in Kumogakure and under the strict rules of Youka,  that would just fly by and not get much thought put into it. However, this was a mission of life and death. She was not supposed to be repressed by all the formalities, the only goal was to get what you had been told to do done through any means possible, and survive. Where she grew up, that was the way everyone lived their life. They just did everything based on the natural moves and instinct. It was fun and it always had hope in a dangerous situation.

Selecting the thought as it she was in a video game, she just went for it. Her naturalistic upbringing had gotten the best of her, and she needed to use it to its most effective potential. In this whole time dealing with her thoughts, the guard got closer and closer, feeling as though any second they would capture Beafōsu Chōkyōshi and her companion Waizu no pō. Her heart racing, Beafōsu just started running, without even thinking, However, this running would not be what you would expect to be. She was running … her hands through the ground. Using her raw strength, her hands were able to dig through the what seemed to be dirt with ease, seeing this, Waizu no pō immediately followed and they were off within moments. The soil felt good in her palms and around her body. She felt as though it was more comforting than and bed or seat she's been in and she knew exactly why. During the academy history class they spent a good month or two going over prominent clans around the world before and after the great eruption and when they got to the Chōkyōshi, they delved into the four branches and how the Bears lived in caves and other earth/ore-focused areas. However, this digging was getting to her and eventually she had to stop. She knew that it was tiring but she had also been digging for a solid 5 minutes. Her tracks have been covered up and it was time to resurface. She used that last bit of her arms ability to dig by finding the corner of this god forsaken maze and then to resurface. No sound even crossed her ear and she knew for a fact that the guards had lost her track and now they were back to square 1, a perfect time to execute something that would be dire to this mission, and too the others.

Being a life and death situation pushes you to thoughts and actions you never thought were possible, and for that. It was necessary. These situations sparked the most genius ideas known to man, and that was a fact. This instance made her do something she probably do a long time ago. She needed to learn a quicker way to traverse the dirt and stone the everyone had been acquainted with, she needed to learn the Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique! This just essentially made a quick retreat to the world below that much easier. Instead of the constant digging and wearing her arms, she just, if she remembered the book the correct, was able to fly through it as if it was a slide. The technique sure was difficult to learn and master in such a short time, but in this time and place, it was the only way she would be able to look around and get the scroll. The technique apparently works about this; The user emits a thin line of chakra, supposedly Doton, or earth, chakra, around their body and the ground beneath starts to diminish into mere sand. Then, the user is able to quickly traverse through the ground as easy as they could on land. The main problem for Beafōsu would be the fact that she would not be able to take Waizu no pō with her unless she was holding her, something that would never work in a sneak attack attempt. So, it was something she just had to live with. There were no hand signs, but she was not exactly the best a channeling chakra, so she used a simple Tiger Seal to get the initial chakra line around her. After that, she should be fine with maintaining the chakra balance and the traveling. She had read about it when she was learning her other jutsu, and she remembered quite a bit of it, so now she just needed to apply. In her medical jutsu, and really all of her jutsu, she had used elementally neutral chakra which was pretty easy to formulate a use effectively. However, she really never tapped into her Doton. And it provided a lot more difficulty than she could even imagine.

Imagine you are doing math, and you are so used to and great at this one type of problem. Well here walks this new challenge that looks nigh identical bar some few details from the problem you so deeply know about. Every time you try and answer it, you are wrong. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. You do not know why and no one is there to help you, so you have to dig into your mind and think of every little thing you have  learned throughout the years and piece it all together. And eventually, you are able to piece it all together and it makes sense, but it takes a long time to get to that. Tapping into the elemental chakra pool was so similar yet it felt like a whole nother world. It did not come to feeling for a good 10 minutes of straining and that itself made her extremely tired. However, she was eventually able to feel the chakra very faintly, but not enough the grab. Her body felt like its own maze of troubles and the one goal was enabling her to take control of the chakra reserve that hid the much needed Doton chakra. Her networks were like a second cardiovascular system, but they had much more faulties than even the worst blood streams. She had found the reserve, but now it was like she was fighting her own body for access to it. All while she was just standing there, Waizu no pō was just standing there. He had a rough day already, but it could not go to waste here. Seeing as though it was only the right thing to while her partner was obviously focusing on a more important task, she hopped onto the nearby walls and started to walk around, keeping watch for any of the guards that they had trespassed before. Waizu no pō knew that they were not supposed to be seen, but when Beafōsu was in such a defenseless state, focusing all of her might onto this jutsu, it was a risk they had to take. Normally, people looked down on Waizu no pō and treated her as a simple pet when they walked around Kumogakure or on the academy, but the select few that saw the importance of a fellow ninja immediately became friendly with her and she reciprocated the feeling. Beafōsu was a great friend both in work and home and she kind of depended on her since she was intelligently, as much as she knew it was true yet did not like admitting it, at a disadvantage due to the species difference. However, when they were in their old home. That made no difference and she was even treated a little better than her human peers. She really did not know whether she like the village or city life better, but she felt good knowing that it was not something that could easily be chosen.

The life of a companion ninja was a weird one at best. You are never in the spotlight, yet all important. You are a separate entity however you are one of a whole. On the battlefield, you are seen as a mere ninja tool however, in the rankings and personal life, you a person. Being an animal has its own troubles and adding being a shinobi just packs on so much that it is hard to fathom all of this. During this thought process and the walking, Beafōsu was starting to make some serious progress on getting that reserve. She was able to get enough focused on her feet, but that would not help much other than helping her with a jutsu she already knew, the Surface Climbing Technique. That would help her stay above ground, the exact opposite of what she knew she needed to do. However, as it went on, the control over Doton chakra slowly gained speed. She was able to spread it out more and able to feel the ground below her become even more comfortable then she was used to. However, she did not seem to be gaining any lead on the action sand aspect, you know, the part the jutsu is supposed to do. When she originally was gonna learn this, she was talking with this other male shinobi, something around chuunin level she supposed, who was also apparently an earth style user. Seeing the “Basic Earth Ninjutsu” handbook in her arm, the boy, whose name she found out was Michael, went into the fact that Earth Ninjutsu was all about focused force. That you could not just go straight in and burst out all of your energy as if you were using Fire or Wind style techniques. While it was the most offensive and physical of all the basic elements that any shinobi could awaken, it required the most control. Everything had to be perfect and balanced, just like the wonders of the earth and metals we stand on every single day. That boy really changed how she thought of ninjutsu, chakra, and the earth that day and she had to put his words to the test. Closing her eyes, she focused hard on the objective at hand. Not getting the scroll, not becoming Chuunin, not even surviving the guards. She needed to get this jutsu down. Once she was able to clear her mind of distractions, she was able to focus on her chakra and slowly, the armor like layer of Doton chakra needed to turn the earth beneath her into a bunch of sand inched its way across her body. First gathering the chakra at her toes, it traversed across the skin to the foot, ankles and leg before Beafōsu started to lose her focus and the chakra started its process to receded. Seeing this, Beafōsu took a deep breath and continued the grab at what she knew was there, what she had hope in.and focused on what was important. The chakra quickly changed its direction again and raced across her body. Clearing her waist and torso like it was nothing and finally filling the brim of her hair. Right when this happened, she fell through the ground in the mush it was. She was not used to this feel at all and she did not know how to exactly control it, but she had to learn quickly. This new sudden texture against her skin sent her into a alarming state of mind and she panicked and flailed her arms and legs around in her disarray. This caused a lot of noise and that was against the silence she was hoping for. The instant she got up out of the sand and her chakra receded, she heard the guards yelling at each other. She could not discern what they were saying, but that did not matter in the slightest. Looking quickly at Waizu no pō and signalling her to distract and lead the others away, she quickly dug deep into her chakra reserves and tapped into the earth chakra and put the layer over her body. Hopefully this would work. She slowly sunk into the floor and eventually was completely underground. She did it! (77/130 B, 178/190 W AP). Right as she went in, a wave of drowsiness washed over her and she started to wear out a bit. This entire time she had been fine, but in this one instance she just felt so tired! However, she knew that she could not, and she means absolutely NOT get off of her A game even for a second, so she trudged on. Above the ground Waizu no pō raced from pillar to pillar, roof top to roof top, staying as quiet as ever. She had to make sure Beafōsu was able to get to the scroll, so she was the distraction. Every other 30 seconds or so, she would let out a yelp to distract the guards and it seemed to be working. The guards seemed to know that she was with a bear all along and thought it would be improbable for them to split up. While Waizu no pō kept running around above ground, something more serious was happening below the guards very feet.

Being in the sand like mush under the earth was a very weird feel for Beafōsu but it was something she had to deal with. Something she had forgotten about this earth style jutsu was the fact that the shinobi that uses this jutsu is able to sense the earth around him and visualize the terrain above using magnetic signals and disturbances. Her first thought was really just to go around popping up and scanning the area, which would have delayed the process of completing the mission and advancing in any way shape or form as a ninja immensely. Now that she could essentially see what was going on above her and easily find the scroll, it would not be a problem to finish her task. The way the magnetic pulses gave her sight was definitely an interesting view. She could not necessarily discern color or anything, but shape and distance were even more clear than if she had been looking with her eyes. Everything had been defined by an abundance of blue lines. The lines formed shaped in her mind and it was like she had a less effective byakugan. Speaking of Byakugan, she started to wonder how Kōmon Hyuuga, one of her training and sparring friends, did on his exam. She knew he did it earlier, but never really knew if he got a pass or fail, or how even did compared to what she is doing. She would think he took a much more stealthy calculated approach, but also probably ran into more traps, which she assumed there were a lot of in this maze. She had been really fortunate in the fact that she has not run into to any of the traps besides the one closing wall. It made life alot easier for her although she knew that in the real world, traps and enemies would definitely be more abundant in situations like this. Her thoughts started to drift to the others in her life. Other friends like Kamina Uzumaki and Komori Hozuki, or family like her two brothers back home. She missed them, but in this life in the village and as a shinobi, she had to forget them and move on. The electromagnetic sight was still a little confusing to understand, but she had to get used to it quick. The one thing she was able to see clearly was Waizu no pō and the three guards running about. She could only imagine the confusion going on in all the guards. They had no idea where she was and now they were chasing noises of a bear who they only suspected to be related. It was great, and now it was time to focus. Her “sight” covered a wide range and it kind of made sense due to her being connected to the whole earth and everything. After a couple minutes of thought and looking around as she swam through the ground, she found the scroll. Feeling  a little bit of shock at first, she popped out of the earth and ran to grab it. Finally! Grabbing the scroll out of its holder, she was surprised to see that there was no alarm system or anything. She knew that on an actual mission, that was not how it would have worked and she would have had another problem. Anyway, she hopped back into the ground, holding the scroll after the chakra was lined around her and descended into the earth (77/130 B, 178/190 W AP). She had already set up a distinct call to get Waizu back to her and now she just needed to find the doorbell of the first house they found. “Swimming” around, she found the house and rang the electronic bell and waited for Waizu no pō to slowly make her way back as she kept the guards far away. Once she made their way back, Beafōsu grabbed Waizu no pō and slowly crept their way out through the front entrance, scroll in hand.

Going through the door in which she first entered felt like a breath of relief. She was finally one step closer to becoming a ninja worthy of the village and she could soon prove her parents and her whole god damn tribe wrong in the fact that she amounted to something. Right behind the door was a Jounin who had given her the original explosive tag in the first place and he smiled. Obviously he saw the scroll in her hand and knew exactly what that meant. Taking the scroll from her and handing her an envelope with her name on it, he explained how this task is just the beginning in your journey to Chuunin and how the challenges only got harder and harder. Beafōsu knew that was going to be the case but she was not happy about it in the slightest. This mission tired her out with all of the movement and she only hoped that the rest would be something that she was used to, like combat or anything to do with brute force. Walking home was a breath of fresh air literally. She was outside and in her element. She decided to take the long way home and saw the academy students just get out of class. The academy had some good and bad memories, but that was behind her and she needed to get home. Seeing the training ground, she saw some new faces and decided to wave. She was walking of her walk way and realized that she had not seen anything regarding the mysterious murderous Hoshigakure ninja. That was a good thing, but not something to fret about and it was something to be happy for. Opening the door, she walked to the kitchen grabbed a quick snack to eat, just some potato chips. She did not bother to really open the envelope and just got the food. Opening the bag of chips and grabbing a nice cold water, she sat on the couch and before she could really even get a good bite in, her and Waizu no pō fell fast asleep in their exhausted state. It was a good day, and hopefully, her efforts would come with good news.
