Sakana's Path to Chuunin pt 1 Empty Sakana's Path to Chuunin pt 1

Sun Feb 26, 2017 7:01 pm
Recently Sakana had been training extra extra hard in preparation for becoming a chuunin. He had talked to Komon about his experiences. Komon encouraged the progressing gennin that he should go for his chuunin exam as the use could use another chuunin or two. Sakana took this advice to heart.  He was going to become the villages next chuunin. So Sakana went to the village information stand and explained that he felt strong enough to become a chuunin, but he wanted them to know that not only was he strong enough physically he also had the mental capabilities and he understood what responsibilities he would accept as a chuunin. Sakana would be expected to take part in surveillance missions as well as help train some gennin and academy students, Sakana knew Komori was taking part in some chuunin exams so he wanted to do his best to catch up to him too.

So once the village ninja working at the stand agreed to let him try out for starting the chuunin exams Sakana had to fill out some forms. These forms had basic questions for him to answer was like his name, his rank, some jutsu he was proud of and his element. The Meijin did not know how this matter for him just taking a test but he trusted in the process because all the chuunin he knew were well experienced shinobi. At the stand they told Sakana that they had a exam ready for him starting tomorrow, of course this was not the real exam but instead they explained that there was a few preliminary missions he would have to go on to prove he is capable of taking the actual chuunin exams. Sakana figured this was to make sure that they did not get any weak gennin who would fail miserably in front of the raikage. With this information Sakana started on his way home pondering a strategy for the mission. All Komon was able to tell him from his experience was that Sakana would have to go through a maze. Sakana wondered if he would be able to complete his test people he had never been in a situation like that before, well figures that is all part of being a shinobi, right? Adapting to tough situations on the spot and making a call that you beloved would aid the village best. Sakana had usually been able to read people but he was always nervous to act on his instinct because if he was wrong it would cause a lot lot more harm than good. Once Sakana arrived home he started thinking up a plan of attack for the rest of the day. On one hand he wanted to train and tune up his skills before he went to his test tomorrow, but on the other hand he understood that if he accidently pushed himself too hard as he had been doing lately he would cause more harm than good on his next mission. So finally after much thought Sakana decided that he wanted to not train physically but mentally, Sakana opened up his Meijin book which had pretty much become his own notebook in a way. Sakana had turned this text book into a story and he added his own personality, even though he was told he had none, into the book. He told the story of Sakana Meijin in this book as if something bad was ever to happen to him he would be able to let his name live in and everyone would know his story. So in reading Sakana further studied hand signs and methods to jutsu he thought would be useful to him on his test.

After a long long time studying Sakana felt he had studied and absorbed all the information that he would for the day and he decided that it would be time to sleep. So Sakana climbed into bed and just laid there for a while, the anticipation consumed him and he could not fall asleep easily, much later on through Sakana’s restless tossing and turning he was able to get a few hours of sleep before he would have to wake up the next morning. Once he woke up he felt kind of rested, he was not in ideal condition but it was enough to be able to pass his test he hoped. Sakana got thought about what to wear he wanted to just wear heavy clothes but thought it might slow him down and cause him to make less progress that he could. So instead Sakana went with a pair of shorts and a t- shirt, this is what he wore most of the time while training he knows it is not ideal but he feels that he will perform at his best in these clothes. Sakana still had some time before he needed to head out so he went downstairs into Kaigo’s shop and he ate a nice breakfast will keep his energy up for the day during the test.  As Sakana was getting ready to go he double checked to make sure he had all his ninja gear he needed to complete the mission. Once he was sure he was ready to go he headed off to the location given to him by the men the day before. He walked walked on the cobblestone path as he had done so many times before but today felt different today Sakana Meijin was going to start his path to become a chuunin, becoming a chuunin would solve so many issues in his life. It would allow him to get stronger and have less restrictions around the village, Sakana would be able to lead missions or at least be considered not weak enough he would have to be babysat as Komon currently saw him.

Sakana approached the building with caution he placed his hand on the door knob careful that this was a trap at the start and he opened the door. Inside there was a blond haired woman at a desk. Sakana approached her and said with confidence “I am Sakana Meijin, I am here today to start my journey to become a chuunin, I request you inform me of the mission details as I was told they would be unclassified once I arrived.”

The blond haired woman smirked, she admired the kid’s confidence. She had already known of his arrival but usually the people who tried out were scared kids who never made it through the door. “Hey kid my name is Hisho, I am in charge here today, I appreciate your asking for the mission details politely so here you go. Inside that door there is a room, this room guards one of the villages sacred scrolls, it is guarded by three guards who are unaware of your presence here today. Your job is to steal the scroll without them seeing you, if they see you or you hurt them you fail.” The blonde looked over Sakana’s form one more time and noticed something, she noticed that the boy standing in front of her was a water style user, he would have a real hard time on the mission with out a water source.  She could not tell him that but she did not want him to be completely screwed so she handed him a bottle of water. “ Here Sakana, you might get thirsty along the way. Good luck out there kid, I am rooting you ya ” Hisho said giving Sakana an innocent smile as to not let on her true intentions of giving him the water bottle.  Hisho then motioned for Sakana to go through the iron clad door in the front.

As Sakana approached the door his stomach cramped up in nervousness, he knew he did not have any time for that so he quickly took a moment to breathe and he calmed himself down. The hallway he was in was actually quite drab, it was made of concrete there did not seem to be a way out in his sight. Sakana actually had no clue how to tackle this mission as he did not have any way of telling the right direction, he wished he had had Komon’s magic eyes at a time like this but he did not so he figured since there was no time limit he would take his time. He decided on following the right wall. Keeping his hadn on the right wall Sakana treaded lightly so that no one would be able to hear his foot steps, he walked and every time he came to a path he had already known the direction he was going to go in.
So a few realizations came upon Sakana as he walked through the dark place. The first realization was that visibility was becoming a great issue for him, he had no way of sensing what was ahead and he knew at this point he was just relying on luck to be able to not get caught. Sakana took a minute to think, he knew that any noise would make him fail, this means that he could not use water style jutsu at the moment because  it was too noisy and a bigger issue was that he did not have a water source. So Sakana was in simple terms screwed if he needed to use jutsu. As he walked along the hallway he was very careful with his steps he approached a room that had a light at the end of it, Sakana walked care fully into the room. Since this room was illuminated he took a minute to see his surroundings.

The room Sakana was currently in looked very plain and unimportant. The was red paint on the wall but no symbols or markings to indicate if the room was of any importance, there was a chair in the corner of the room but no one had been seating in it at the moment. Sakana looked around the room, he saw a few back backs and   some other useless stuff that would not aid him on this mission. Sakana had finally figured out what this room was  it seemed to be a place where the guards who were on break would stay. He realized how lucky he was that even while he had been searching the room no guards has come in the room and found him. Sakana realized this room had no importance to him and then aimed to leave it as soon as possible. Sakana walked back across the room when he noticed a explosion tag on the wall. If he would not have seen this not only would have he failed his mission he might have actually been killed in the process.

The way it was set up was really cleaver actually, upon going in the room there was no security, this would give a robber or even a dumb shinobi a false sense of hope that the room would be safe for the duration of his time there, then someone was done raiding the items in the room he would leave only to get blown up by the explosion tag. Sakana wished he could talk with whoever designed that trap and teach it to him. He was always interested in clever tactics that were not the shinobi norm, but alas he was sent here to steal from these people not talk to them so instead he had to go to work to try and break the paper bomb trap. Sakana had studied these as he had two of them in his bag, he knew that they were set off by motion and he could not touch it, Sakana had actually had a good idea, he would pull some moisture from the air in order to wet the paper bomb in turn making it useless as if it was wet it would not be detect the motion and would not go off. The beauty of this trick would be that in an hour or so when the paper had dried off it would be completely unnoticeable that Sakana had ever even been there.

So Sakana went to work. He used the only jutsu he could without a water source, Sakana was going to use the hidden mist jutsu but he was going to direct the cloud at the paper bomb in order to drench it enough so that he would be able to escape. See the problem was to Sakana’s knowledge this had never been done before and it would either go perfectly and Sakana would pride himself on his glamorous action  or what he had feared ever since he had walked in this building, the mist would not work but instead go off killing Sakana in the process. Well here goes nothing, Sakana thought to himself as he had just completed the hand sign needed for the hidden mist jutsu.  Sakana watched as the mist started to be pulled from the air and Sakana used his chakra to direct the mist to the paper bomb, now was the moment of truth as the mist touched the paper bomb Sakana felt relived as he had not just died. But it was not over yet, Sakana had continued to let the mist go against the paper bomb, this was a slow and rigorous task but his life was kind of on the line here so he really should not complain. After about ten minutes Sakana had successfully soaked the paper bomb to the point where he simply walked on by it and it did not explode.

Now Sakana was back on track for his test, he was going to be more careful about what traps lie ahead. So Sakana continued his strategy of walking along the right wall, this worked for a while but Sakana had gotten to a fork in the road, naturally he would go along the right wall but instead he heard foot steps down that hall, So in turn Sakana was forced to take the left path in fear of being caught if he went down the right hall. He did  not have a plan at the moment if he would have seen a guard, he figured he would just fail on the spot and it would not matter but he did not want to fail so he got out of range of the guard quick and he headed off to the left path.

As Sakana was walking he did not realize his mistake till it was too late. The hallway he was now walking down had an uneven floor, at the time Sakana did not think anything of this but in time he realized this was another trap that would be bad for him. He was walking on the uneven floor when he placed his foot down. As he made contact with the floor the slab of concrete he was standing on quickly retracted and Sakana realized he was a bout to fall to was he was expecting to be his death. Sakana latched on to the floor and did his best to hold on so he would not fall. He figured this trap would be easy to get out of as he could just focus his chakra on his feet and climb up from the hole that way, but that would not be a good trap if it was that easy to get out of, his charka would not stick as he tried multiple times to get free from the whole he was stuck in. He concluded that whoever had designed this maze should be placed as the cloud’s top tactician because these traps were a pain to deal with on this test.  The hole must have been laced with something that would disrupt contact with a person’s chakra. He realize he would have to rely on his strength to pull him up, Sakana was not in any rush till the trap started to close again. As fast as he could Sakana tried to get out of the hole. He was mostly successful but his foot got caught in the closing floor.

Sakana wanted to scream out because he was feeling a horrible pain in his ankle. He knew he could not though because it would cause him to fail his mission. Failure was not an option at this point, he had dealt with enough crap at this point that he would not stand fail just from hurting his ankle. Sakana reached into his pocket and pulled out a kunai. He put the kunai into the closing floor that was crushing his ankle and he pushed with all his might to try and just make it budge a little so he could get out. Well he pushed as hard as he could and opened the floor up for enough time that Sakana was able to pull his foot out. Sakana went to stand up but winced in pain as he realized he had broken his leg in the process. He thought about calling the test there as he was not able to move. He knew all he had to do was scream out and it would all be over. Just as he opened his mouth to call out he had an idea. He had read about a chakra anesthetic technique that might allow him to be able to complete the mission.  Sakana struggled to remember the hand signs and procedure for the technique because of how much pain he was in. It took him a few minutes to remember but he finally did. He took his hand off his ankle and did the hand signs, Hare → Ox → Monkey. A blue flame appeared on his fingers it was just for show as he was not burning in the process. Sakana placed his flaming hand on his foot and he rejoiced as he started to feel numb in his ankle. It had worked, so next he was going to try to use some basic healing ninjutsu in order to try to mend the wound. He did the necessary hand seals for basic medical and watched as the healing chakra flowed through his hand, he once again placed it on his ankle he felt it start to mend suddenly but he knew that it would not heal fully. This wound needed time to heal, time Sakana did not have.

Sakana forced himself to get up, even though the wound was healing it still hurt really badly when he tried to walk. Sakana started to lean on the wall for support as he limped on his way through the hall. He got off of that path as soon as he was able to, now he really could not afford to get caught in any more traps. Sakana hobbled around the path for a little while. At least the guards had not been around, the only thing in this hall way was Sakana and a couple of rats. The way the rats were so calm and so small never really stood out to him before today. Sakana wondered if there was a way to use the rats for his own benefit, maybe not living rats but he might be able draw rats using his shinobi painter set. He had no clue if that would work so he decided not to attempt it now but he would ask Komon soon, well that is if he survives today.

There was literally nothing more Sakana could do expect hobble down paths in search of the scroll. As Sakana was walking he heard movement near by. He started to panic a sentinel was coming and he needed a way to divert the guard. Sakana did not know what do to he started to try to run but his leg gave out in the process. As Sakana was lying on the ground his face was looking at the sealing. There was something he had not noticed before there was a sprinkler system on the ceiling. Sakana’s mind began to work and his mind flooding with ideas but he could not pull a practical plan. Wait. . . Flooding, that is it if I flood the maze it will divert attention away from me. I need a way to break that sprinkler system though. Sakana though as he was on the ground. This is where all his studying from yesterday came into effect. Sakana recalled a jutsu that interested him yesterday, it was called water needles. But there was one big problem. He had no water source, just as he thought he had been saved he realized his plan would not work, all he needed was a little bit of water though. Not much but like a bottle’s worth of water. Wait. WAIT. The bottle of water Hisho had given me I still have it, if I can use it to make the water needles I am saved if not it’s the end, I only have one shot at this here. Sakana quickly ripped the water bottle out of his bag. He had one shot at this and he needed to make it count. He poured the water onto the floor, making it so it was easy to access it when he needed to manipulate it.  Sakana had remembered that the hand signs were Rat and then bird. He struggled to get up after placing that much pressure on his leg before hand. But it was ok, he managed to get up. Resting his back on the wall so he did not place his weight on his ankle he did the rat and bird hand sign. It was now or never the ninja had been quickly approaching. He would turn the corner any second now. When Sakana was done with the hand signs he had created seven water needles. They shot at the ceiling and the sprinkler system went off. This was perfect to Sakana’s cause of not being caught he not could be as loud as he wanted and he had a free water source for the remainder of his mission. He felt much much better as the rain hit his skin and started to spread around him. Sakana loved the rain and now was no different, he felt rejuvenated. But there was one big problem left the guard did not stop coming toward Sakana, although the sound was faint because of the sprinklers Sakana had made sure to listen extra carefully. But now this was Sakana’s game to win, he was a water style user who had just gained access to a bunch of water. Sakana did what he always did when he was in trouble and he summoned his water clones. He was on the verge of an idea so he only summoned one water clone to him. The clone and Sakana only had about a minute left before the guard would arrive. Sakana could not be scene by the guard but what if someone else was? This new solution Sakana thought of would solve the problem of the guard and it would ease the suspicions of  the guards as to why the sprinklers went off. Sakana had his clone use the transformation technique to mask his appearance. The clone changed to the woman at the front desk. The guards knew her and would have a reason to trust her. Then Sakana had the water clone use the ventriloquism technique to match her voice. The clone knew what to do next. He ran toward the guard, and started screaming, “Help, come on this is important, the main building is on fire and we need to hurry. You come with me to go put it out, there are two other guards to watch the scroll, but we are all going to die if you don’t come help me put out the fire.” This got the attention of the guard. The water clone disguised as  Hisho waited for the guard to catch up and let him take lead back to the main building. They did not want to lose their cover so he let the guard take lead.

This was amazing for Sakana, this would get one guard out of the way for a little while but he needed to pick up his pace now because once that clone left out of Sakana’s range he would become a puddle and the test would be over because an intruder would be revealed in the building. Now Sakana needed to rush. He used his deductive reasoning skill to conclude that the guard must have come in the direction of the scroll so he headed off in that direction. Sakana went as fast as he could. He made a bunch of turns along the way and he came across a room. This room had a box in the middle of it. Could the scroll be in there?  Sakana did not know so he had to attempt to get in there. Sakana started to walk in the room. Because of all the pain he was in his senses were off. The hurt gennin did not notice the trip wire until it was to late. The trip wire shot out two kunai from both directions. He really did not know how to get out of this one. One of the kunai was headed toward his bad ankle and the other toward his shoulder. Well if Sakana was going to try something now would be the time to do it he thought back to the book, he remembered reading of a technique that would allow him to replace part of his body with water so that he would not be injured. The dilemma is that it would only work with one part of hos body. He needed to decided what was more important. He concluded that if the kunai hit his leg he would be out, it was already broken and there would be no recovery from that. So he was going to take a hit to the shoulder.  In a mad rush Sakana performed the hand signs Tiger → Boar → Ox → Dog → Snake. He felt the kunai hit his shoulder but he did not feel the other one hit his ankle that must have meant that his jutsu worked. But once he realized that he had succeeded the pain rushed in. He had just been stabbed in the shoulder and the blood was coming out rapidly. The puddle that was in front of him because of the sprinklers soon turned really really red. Sakana needed to do something about it and quick. Sakana quickly summoned another water clone. This water clones job was apply basic medical ninjutu to Sakana in the hope he would be able to continue on his mission.  Once the wound closed Sakana used the water clone to help him up. If he had done his math correctly he only had around ten and a half minutes left before the first water clone would be out of range an disappear. So Sakana needed to move really really fast. He did not know why he had not thought of this before but he had the current water clone support him as he walked and they both headed off together. At this point Sakana had been heavily relying on the clone for support as it was near amazing he had not bleed out or at least passed out by this point.

As they went further and further Sakana was drifting out of his mind and was ready to pass out. The clone keep bumping Sakana awake because he knew if Sakana had fallen asleep the mission would have been over. They headed off and the clone started jabbing Sakana’s side in excitement. He had seen the room with the scroll. At this point in time the water on the ground was at least four full inches deep. The clone was finding it hard to pull Sakana with him while they were trudging through the water. But they were so clone and they could not quit now so the clone did its best to pull Sakana. But there was one huge complication. There was a guard standing next to the room with the scroll. So there was two issues. The first obviously being the guard that stood between them and the scroll and the other problem being that Sakana was in no condition to move on his own to grab the scroll. The clone decided that they had a total of five minutes so he had time to think. The clone rested Sakana against the wall and started to rack his brain for a plan. Even this was insane to the clone because the real Sakana was supposed to come up with the plans not the clones. The clone was supposed to follow orders not give them. But at this point he knew how important this was to the real Sakana so he needed to suck it up an actually work hard. So he began to think, he did have all of Sakana’s memories so he remembered everything from the book Sakana had read the day before. Sakana had already used a bunch of new techniques but maybe there was another one that would heavily aid them here. Clone Sakana racked his brain, Sakana usually takes a liking to offensive moves but those are next to useless here. There was some cool stuff Komon said he would teach them but Komon was not here to help him. Clone Sakana saw that not only did  they have little time left to get the scroll but real Sakana was still sitting on the floor ready to pass out at any moment. Clone Sakana had looked around at the water around him. Real Sakana needed a place to hide as clone Sakana distracted the guard. Clone Sakana was thinking about this technique he wanted to learn a while back. It was called the hiding in water technique. Clone Sakana could not perform the jutsu himself and it was a longshot that Sakana would be able to make it work his first time but he needed to try. Clone Sakana walked over to real Sakana who was now laying on the floor. The clone picked him up and let him rest against the wall.

Real Sakana was about to be out of the game. He felt himself slipping out of it numerous time. He was grateful that the clone had been watching over him. And he was pretty amazed to see that the clone had come out with a pretty sound plan while Sakana rested. The plan was not that complicated to be honest. Clone Sakana was going to turn into the guard from earlier and ask the guard to look at a trap he thought had been triggered earlier but he needed another set of eyes to confirm if it was an intruder or just the rats again, while real Sakana used the hiding in water technique well to hide until the guard passed. So there was the plan now the hard part was actually executing it. Real Sakana had almost depleted all of the chakra in his body which is another reason it was crucial that this worked on the first attempt.

Clone Sakana had just finished up using the transformation jutsu to look like the guard. He then use the ventriloquism jutsu to try to mimic the guards voice from earlier. Real Sakana hobbled over to the corner of the wall ready to use the hiding in water jutsu once clone Sakana had initiated the plan.

Clone Sakana was pretty nervous, he wondered how other clone Sakana felt when he was in the same situation around half an hour ago. Well he was up so he had to try. Clone Sakana walked over to the guard, once he got there he explained that he thought he had heard something in the break room earlier where the stuff was stored. He could not find anything but he wanted another opinion so Clone Sakana explained that he would stay and guard the scroll while the guard went to check out the break room. This was not the original plan of attack but Clone Sakana felt that real Sakana would not be able to get up and get the scroll on his own, he did not want to risk Real Sakana passing out and failing the test especially since the end was right in site. The guard agreed and made fun of clone Sakana accusing the guard he pretended to be as a scared ninja.

So now it was real Sakana’s turn to complete his part of the plan. Real Sakana over heard the conversation between Clone Sakana and the guard so real Sakana knew that the guard was coming his way. Real Sakana used up the last of his chakra once he did the Ox → Dog → Snake hand signs. Sakana had fallen beneath the water and was invisible to anyone would would pass by. He watched from under the water as the guard walked on top of him, he was scared but he was actually to hurt to be too nervous. Once the guard had passed Sakana did not know when he should surface, his inquires were answered when clone Sakana, still disguised as a guard when over Sakana and told him it was safe but he needed to hurry. Real Sakana got out of the water with the help of clone Sakana and they trudged toward the scroll. They were so close at this point. Sakana had been observing the color change as they went. The room with the scroll seemed to painted a bright blue and it seemed way more safe than the rest of the maze had been throughout his whole trip here. Without his water clones he would have failed the test a while ago so he was grateful to his clones.

They approached the entrance to the door. Sakana could see the scroll. They were so close, all Sakana needed to do was touch it and he would be able to go home and rest, well maybe he needed the hospital but he was not sure, he would cross that bridge when he came to it. During the walk clone Sakana had turned his appearance back into Sakana, so that when the test was over he would not look like a guard. They approached the stand with the scroll. Sakana reached out on the pedestal and grabbed it. He had done it, he had successfully snuck into the room and grabbed the scroll, while he was injured he had completed his mission and that is all that matters.

Once he had grabbed the scroll Hisho appeared in front of him. Sakana wondered how the blond had known he had completed the mission but he figured she would tell him. The blond haired girl began to speak. “Wow kid you look rough are you going to be aright? I am a sensory type ninja so I had sensed you around here so I gave it five minutes and popped in to hopefully see you completed the mission. Clever what you did with the guards, I sensed that too. But I was not the one you had to sneak past so you are good. None of those idiots realized that you were tricking them so you completed your mission. I think you have completed this task uniquely and pretty well. You are lucky that those water clones saved your ass though, it would have been a shame to see you dead. Go get yourself checked out after we are done here ok?”

Sakana had listened intently to what the woman was saying, He thought she was congratulating him but at the same time he could not tell because of her sarcastic nature. He hoped he had passed but he knew he must have looked rough because even she told him to get checked out. Sakana smiled as he looked at the water clone. He then started to feel himself pass out but he tried to hold on.
