Renji's Path to chuunin pt 3
Fri Jun 09, 2017 3:05 pm
Link to mission
The sun was nearly high over head, with hardly any shade to be found, Renji would be sitting up on a tree branch a few meters above the ground. Using the tree top for shade, Renji would be sitting there deep in thought, a quizzical look about his face. Having passed his first two trials towards becoming a chuunin, Renji only had one more trial left before he would be allowed to begin his chuunin exams. However, he knew that this would certainly be his most challenging trial yet.
Having received the letter in the mail earlier today, Renji knew that it was only a matter of about an hour before he would be taking part in his combat trial. Usually when fighting or sparing Renji would not be as nervous or worried. However knowing that this sparring match in particular had so much riding on it, renji would be a little on edge and stressed out. While he is sitting up in the tree Renji would notice that the sun was almost overhead. Remembering that his exam was at noon, Renji would jump down from the tree and heads in the direction of the academy as that’s where the letter had specified for him to meet at.
As he is making the short walk towards the ninja academy, Renji would pull from his left lower jacket pocket the letter he had gotten from the mission board earlier in the day regarding his third and final trial. He had read over it quite a few times already today, but with the test set to take place shortly, Renji wanted to read it one last time to make sure that he had not misread anything out of nervousness the previous ten times he had read it. With the letter unfolded in his hands, Renji would slow his pace a bit and reads the content of the letter to himself.
“Renji,
You have shown you can infiltrate an objective. And if ever caught in a compromising position, you have shown your competency with your jutsu precision. But what happens when jutsu won’t cut it, and you find yourself in a situation where you have to defend yourself. This trial will be testing your hand to hand combat as such, no ninjutsu genjutsu funijutsu, or any other techniques along those lines. This is a test of your skills at hand to hand combat, we want to see that if you have to, you can properly defend yourself. If you pass this trial, you will have the permission of this board to take part in the next chuunin exams. You are to meet at the academy room 112c at noon today.”
As he is coming up on the ninja academy, Renji would look around and sees all of the academy students walking around and going about there day to day coming and going through the lawn / grassy area in front of the academy. Seeing this would remind Renji of his own academy days just a few short months back, and how he has come so far. Seeing as he had about a half hour to kill before noon, Renji decides to walk about the lawn and perhaps sit in on a class or two, remembering that they usually held class outdoors this time of year.
Renji would follow a winding path that leads off to the back left of the main academy building. The path would come to a rather decent sized grassy area where a class was currently being held. Not wanting to disturb the class, Renji would creep along the other side of the bushes from the class still he came up on a tree that had a branch overhanging the class. Renji quickly climbs the tree and sits down to take in some of the lesson that the instructor was giving. Looking at the scene before him, Renji would see about 20 – 30 students all sitting cross legged on the ground the class would be split down the middle half the kids on one side half on the other and in the middle would be a path that lead to a rather oversized dry erase board that the instructor was standing in front of.
With in a few minutes of being up there, Renji would see that this was an advanced academy class, and they were currently working on some genin rank taijutsu techniques. Just his luck Renji would say as he hears the instructor say “Next we are going to go over the taijutsu technique, Chain fist.” Seeing as he had never heard of this technique, Renji would move closer to the edge so that he could clearly hear the instructions for this technique. Once the instructor was done speaking he would then show the kids how the jutsu was supposed to look. Seeing this Renji would attempt to make the same circular motion with his hands as he had just seen the instructor doing.
Renji would hang around for a bit after learning the technique, despite already knowing the rest of the techniques that the instructor was showing the class below him. A few minutes would pass before The students would finally rise from their seated position, at the same time, the instructor would be erasing the board. Watching as the grassy area slow emptied out, Renji would remember that the classes at the academy ended ten minutes before noon. Once the final kid had left, and the instructor was starting to wheel the dry erase board back inside, Renji would jump down from his perch up in the tree that he had been in, and begins to make his walk back around to the front of the academy.
As he is coming to the front of the academy’s main building, Renji would stop for a quick second then takes a quick inhale and exhale before opening the door and walking into the reception area .
Once he was inside the building Renji would walk up to the receptionist that was sitting at the front desk. Not knowing where to go as he had never heard of room 112c he would call out to the receptionist in an attempt to get there attention. A man With his head buried deep in a pile of books would raise up his head from the book, a tired look would be on his face. He would not say anything to Renji, instead the mans tired glaze would raise up to the headband that was tied around Renji’s head. Once he saw this, the receptionist would return his head back to his book work. As he does so he would point a finger in the direction of a hallway that was off to the left of the table without saying a word the entire time.
Seeing that he was not going to get anymore information out of the receptionist Renji would shrug his shoulders and walk off in the direction of the hallway the receptionist had pointed in. Once he got to the entrance to the hallway Renji would see that this rather short hallway that he was now standing in front of would only lead to a staircase at the other end that would lead 2 flights down. Quickly running down the two flights of stairs, Renji would see in front of him a dimly lit hallway with no windows. The hallway would be a little bit bigger then the previous one he had been in. At the end of the hallway was a large old wooden door. Taking in his first breath since making it down stairs, Renji’s nose would be assaulted by an awful foreign smell, the smell was so bad that it causes Renji to dry heave. Being underground and having no windows for circulation, the hallway would give off a strong odor only comparable to a hockey equipment bag.
After recovering from nearly throwing up in his mouth, Renji would begin to make his way through the hallway, there was not much to see here. Just 2 walls a floor a ceiling, and that old wooden door. As he is half way through the hallway Renji would look up at the top to ensure that the receptionist had given him the right place. When he looks up Renji would see at the top of the door “1_2c”. Renji would look around the room in a confused daze trying to figure out if this was the right place. What if he walked in and something wild and crazy was going down in there, his imagination would run wild for a second as he begins to let his nervousness for the test become a mini panic attack.
Just as Renji is about to begin panicking, his eyes would come across what appears to be a “1” on the ground not to far away from the door. Picking it up, Renji would hold it up in a way that when he closed one eyes and peered at the sign over the door, the “1” would be in place of the space in “1_2c.” looking at it this way, it seemed as if the Missing number was indeed this “1” that Renji had found. He would look around real quickly to ensure that there was not any other numbers on the floor. Once he was sure, Renji would walk up to the door and takes a deep breath before reaching out both arms.
With no handle on the door face, Renji would assume he had to push the door, and attempts to meagerly push the door in. To which his arms would collapse in before he was leaning face up against the door “shoulda figured” Renji would say in response to realizing just how heavy this door in front of him was. Taking a few steps back, Renji would line up to take another shot at the door this time adding some speed and muscle behind his attempt. As Renji is about to come in contact with the door maybe an inch or two away, the door would magically swing open and Renji would go tumbling a few feet inside of the room landing on his butt. Not wanting to be taken by surprise, Renji would quickly jump up to his feet, and as he does so the door would slam behind him locking as it does so.
Once the door was locked, Renji would jump back and quickly presses his back against the door behind him. As he is doing this he would watch as the lights began to slowly flicker on, as if someone was methodically turning on a living room light dimmer. As the lights where coming on, Renji could see that he was in a rather decent sized room, about 5 X 5 meters. The room, like the hallway before it, had no windows and carried the same awful smell of sweaty hockey bags. Looking around the room Renji would also see a couple of heavy bags hanging from the ceiling in the corners of the room. As the lights were still working their was on, Renji would only be able to see the two heavy bags (1 per corner) that where on his side of the room. As the lights brightened a bit more, Renji could see that covering the floor wall to wall was a dojo mat and on the wall was a light blue padding. Still as the lights would brighten a bit more Renji would begin to see the shadow of a person. From his angle Renji would see the head of the shadow and with his eyes he would follow the shadow back to a pair of legs standing on the opposite side of the room from him. All of this would happen over the course of a few seconds.
Upon seeing the shadow, Renji would assume this person to be his opponent for his final trial. He would assume a fighting stance, just in case the person did not want to wait until the lights were fully on to launch an attack. Renji would prepare to activate his byakugan if the person on the other side of the room was to move before the lights had fully come one. Finally, the time had come, Renji was prepared for the sparing session of his life.
The boy was now fully ready to begin his last trial, or at least he would hope so
