Early to Rise: Satomi's Genin Exam

The morning was kind to him, the clouds were minimal and the ones floating aloft over head were just fluffy balls of cotton. The birds seemed to sing for Satomi outside his window as the child ready himself for the day. Today was the day, the exam had finally come and he couldn't be more excited. His father would offer him a fried egg on toast and a good luck smooch on the forehead before sending his little ninja off to the Academy. Satomi practically ran the whole way there, slowing when he was forced to stop and battle his breakfast as it tried to choke him upon eating it too fast. Not today, breakfast. Today he was going to graduate and become a shinobi!

Skipping into class, Satomi skidded to a stop with a bit of a hop on the end. If everything went according to plan it would be the last time he would have to show up for class, until then he'd have to wait until it was his time to show his stuff.

Twas early in the morning when the young chestnut haired girl arrived in her Chunin outfit at the ninja academy. This wasn't the first time Namikaze was asked to proctor some hopeful students on their path to becoming full fledged shinobi, and usually Hikari felt joy with doing this... However today was a little bit different.

Hikari had just been informed that on top of preforming her own Jounin exams in the up and coming week, she was also going to have to proctor a group of Genin attempting their chunin combat exam. This burden was a great strain on the Chunin's time and this took away from her ability to further her ability to prepare for said exam. That being said, this place was where fate had brought the young girl to be, and Hikari wasn't going to let her in desire to be here show or effect the scores she was about to give to her students.

As she sat down and called for the first person to come in, and a small boy made his way into the class room... slightly skipping as he did. Hikari sort of cocked her head, the boy was on the younger side of students.... and quite a bit more happy go lucky. Usualy... students would be quite nervous as of this point.... but not this boy. Either he was unable to process how serious this exam was, or he was overly confident. Either way... it was dangerous, but that wasn't what hikari was grading the boy on.

"Please state your name for the records." The young girl would say... it was quite a differnt way of saying it. Rather then her usual prepy self, she spoke in a slight monotone voice, more like a robot doing it's task... no... Robot's don't exist in the world of Naruto, more like... a summon... a Summon who's job was to simply stand gaurd or something of that nature.


Once the boy spoke his name, Hikari would then continue. "Well, for your final exam, I would like you to preform the Clone jutsu, and the transformation jutsu. Also on top of that, I would like you to explain how each of them can be effective in shinobi's lives. You may begain when you are read.

There might have been slight naive air about the young student as he was summoned to attention, at the very least it certainly wasn't overconfidence behind his his gap-toothed smile. The proctor's voice was quickly able to nullify Satomi's enthusiasm as her plodding tone of voice seemed almost lifeless, if he only had a voice to judge her by, he would just as easily assumed that she was a puppet controlled by a really bad ventriloquist. Then again, her lumbering body mannerisms didn't exactly help dispel such a theory either.

Killer breakfast, a run down proctor, it didn't matter. He had to pass this exam and earn his headband. He could almost feel it across his forehead as he combed his fingers back through his golden locks. So perhaps he was more confident than not, but wouldn't describe himself as overconfident.

Satomi promptly found himself snapped to attention again as he was asked to state his name, his crystal blue eyes lit up immediately as he attempted to stand as tall as he could. Which wasn't every tall in all honesty, he was just a hair over four feet after all. “Satooomi~ Furukawa, ma'am!” His voice was a stark contrast to Hikari's own, so bright and even melodic as his words fluttered out from him. He then proceeded to wait for the instructions that would determine his fate, the realization of which may have nipped a bit at the radiant youth as his feet shuffled a bit towards one another. Perform both the clone and transformation jutsu, has as he had been informed several times leading up to the exam. However, what he didn't remember behind told was that he would explain how they were beneficial!

Oh no! I've spent all this time practicing the jutsu that I haven't put any thought in how they would be useful! Satomi's demeanor took a nose dive as the color drained from his skin, his eyes dulling as his knees wobbled, all the while his stomach tried to roll over and play dead. Feh! First thing's first, I actually need to show that I can do the jutsu.

First, Transformation!

Satomi did his best to shake the nervousness out as he straightened up again while lifting his hands to ready them. His hands were nearly a blur as he performed the seals in order: Dog → Boar → Ram. What followed was the usual dramatics one associated with the technique, an impressive eruption of white smoke completely obscuring the child. As it subsided a moment later, the little fair-haired boy would be gone. In his place an much taller man with a more dull luster to his own wild blonde locks, the gentleman clad in attire very suitable for a vendor of street food. He appeared to be a young adult at most, early 20's, and he worse a familiar smile to one that Hikari would have seen most recently as the man just seemed to carry the most carefree aura about him. It was usually something that sent a sense of dread through one's spine, but Satomi had become his father. It was a younger version however, one specifically chosen from an image the young boy had been shown in the past when his father would tell him stories about his life leading up to Satomi's birth.

He wasn't finished yet, Satomi performed a second set of seals needed for his next jutsu. Ram → Snake → Tiger. He held his fathers form as he performed the second jutsu he'd been tasked to demonstrate for his exam. In the blink of an eye there were two identical gentleman in the room where Satomi himself once stood, the youngster creating a clone of himself as his father. However one of them was not long for this world and went up in smoke to reveal the young student himself again. He wasn't ready to call it yet, he wanted to wow Ms. Moody—or at least try to.

Once more Satomi would flash the signs for the transformation jutsu, this time however he produced a different form. A dark-haired woman, a woman that Satomi had only ever seen in pictures. She was clearly a shinobi herself, her flak jacket designating her at least chuunin in rank. There was a dominant presence about her, yet there was a soft and tenderness to her smile and gaze as she moved in next tothe clone of his father. It was just like the photo his father had showed him many times, both his parents together and happy.

“While clones created from the clone technique are not themselves capable of engaging in combat, they are useful as a means of confusion and distraction.” The husband and wide duo spoke simultaneously. “It could be a means to trick an opponent into dropping their guard or a way to elude an enemy in chase." Satomi could only hope his answer was at least satisfactory as he tried to piece together the words of his teachers.

The young happy pair suddenly disappeared only to be replaced by Satomi himself again. He didn't seem nearly a cheery as he was before, perhaps the exam was getting to him after all. Perhaps it was something else picking at him, whatever the case he managed to trudge on to finish his explanation. “The transformation jutsu is one of the quintessential techniques  useful for espionage and infiltration. If you look like you belong and act like you belong then no one will question if you belong. It is a simple an effective way to gain access to areas and information that otherwise would be off limits to you.” His voice was quiet and lacked the sung quality it had before he had started, but he was content with what he had done.

“I hope that was to your satisfactory, ma'am?” Satomi queried, it was hard to tell what his proctor was thinking. Whatever the outcome, he's just like to go home. Maybe he'd bring good news to his father, but regardless he felt he needed a hug from him.

(Jeez I hope I didn't misinterpret the question.)

The boy's use of the technique was flawless.... however.... there was slight problem in the presentation of the way the techniques could be used. While everything the young boy said was 100% factual and true, the boy didn't really cover much when it came to his knowledge of the jutsu. She had hoped for the boy to give some more examples, or be able to muster more than just two to three sentences apiece per each of them.

As such, Hikari gave him two perfect tens for his ability to do the jutsu... but only 6/10s for the jutsu explanation.

Either way, that came to about an 80 percent, which was more than what the boy needed to be able to pass. So, Hikari would mark the grades down and would continue with her evaluation. "While I would of preferred if you had given a little bit more on the explanation of the jutsu... your flawless execution of the techniques is more than enough to pass. Please take a headband and be on your way. Also, if you could send in the next person... that would be phenomenal."

With that Hikari would hold out the head band to the new graduate. Presuming he took it, Hikari would go back to her notes, preparing for the next examine.

He perked up slightly at the praise for his technique, he had practiced hard to make sure he would be flawless. He was, however, not surprised as his presentation was critiqued. Even he felt that he could have done better, but there are some battles you're just not prepared for and have to make the best of. Regardless, he felt his very first sense of real accomplishment as the proctor informed him of his passing score. It was just unfortunate that the joyous occasion was marred by some personal afflictions. Perhaps he should have chosen a different subject to display his jutsu prowess with, but he thought it would be nice if his mother could be there to help more than just as a source of inspiration. A move which appeared to have the opposite intention as Satomi reached out with both hands to accept his head band. A hint of a smile managed to break through the otherwise solemn expression as he proceeded to slip his near head gear under his bangs and tie it snugly around the back of his head.

The proctor's voice seemed however eager to take even that small moment of joy with her monotonous tone as she sent him on his way, hopefully they pair's day would improve. At least Satomi could go home and unwind. The proctor on the other hand had quite a day ahead of her judging by the students he could count as he informed the next of their turn.

“You can do it~” He'd offer his encouragement to the next in line, a broader smile forming on his face as a small bounce returned to his steps on his way out and onto a whole new journey.
