Surpassing that other girl. [P/NK/Training]
Sun Aug 13, 2017 1:54 am
Kama yawned, back at the training grounds following her race with Ayane. Just thinking of the blonde was enough to make the Uzumaki’s blood boil. She was always the one answering questions in class and bragging about all the techniques she knew… it made the young kunoichi want to punch her lights out. On the other hand though, Kama was trying to resist resorting to violence for a little while. While it was effective at making her stronger for sure it had the drawback of… making people and classmates adamantly dislike her. It wasn’t her fault she wanted to be the best right? If they were to just get stronger along with her then there wouldn’t actually be a problem. The student laid back on her log, off at the back of the training area and still dressed in her signature kimono. Her red hair was splayed wildly off the side of the stump with little thought as the girl considered a plan for the day. Thinking to herself, she figured something like being able to avoid genjutsu would be nice. Though she had yet to run into it, those kinds of techniques were certain to ruin her day as she was mostly versed in a very minor amount of taijutsu, medical jutsu and ninjutsu. Tricks and illusions weren’t quite her thing but at the same time, the young Kunoichi knew she needed to be able to avoid them at all costs. Her class had gone over a specific technique but using it was...well tough to do without actually being in a genjutsu.
She hopped up, performing the tiger seal and considering the lesson. The goal was to make her chakra run rapidly throughout her body and disrupt any changes caused to it by genjutsu. In theory this was rather easy, and in practice it should be as well...Kama was just unsure of her abilities on it. She had yet to even run into any illusion techniques thus far so until that happened she could only guess if she was successful in learning it. Though doubting herself likely wouldn’t help at all, and would probably just make it even less likely to learn. Breathing out, she began rapidly moving her chakra through her body. It felt a bit warm, as well as a bit painful. It was entirely possible she was using too much but the Kunoichi couldn’t worry about that now. Closing her eyes, a circle of red chakra formed around her feet as she increased the rapid pulsing of her chakra, energy leaking off her from the amount of chakra she was currently wasting. Even still, the technique seemed to be performed right and if she had been thrown inside of a genjutsu that matched her level, she likely would have broken it by now. Kama released the jutsu with a sigh, adding the technique to her mental list of moves she had currently learned. At this point she had almost as many techniques as Ayane but the Uzumaki still wasn’t sure it was enough. Rather dramatically flopping onto her back, she tried to consider coming up with an edge in combat...

The path through the city hidden in the stars was quick enough. She wasn't sure exactly where she was going, but something in the back of her mind told her she needed to be exactly in this place today. She felt the draw of the woman who'd once existed in the world in this place calling her through the beautiful scenery of the water gardens, past the fountains and foliage, and onward to the hard packed dirt arena that could only be one thing. "Training grounds..." She spoke to herself, of course, lithe arms reaching up to gently pull the hood that masked her face down to pool at the back of her neck. She hadn't noticed the other girl yet. That would one day be a problem that could cause serious harm, but with her ignorance to the situation, it would be safe to say that it was not one that she could fix at current. It was the draw of her place holder that caused her to not check the area around her, the strange feeling of necessity and intrigue about the area that is. The water gardens were gorgeous. She could see herself spending hours there given the time, but at current, there was just far too much to do. The moment she entered the training area she got to work, drawing a small parcel from her bag, flint and steel, and a set of small clay plate like rectangular holders and placing one of the receptacles with a lit incense at each of the four corners of the training area. It wasn't until she got to the corner nearest the young girl that she actually noticed her presence, causing a bit of distress.
"Ack. Oh... Um sorry. I didn't actually realize there was someone else here. I really need to finish study of this chakra, and how it can be used to increase my sensory capabilities. " The final statement was spoken quietly, her eyes shifting away from the girl for a moment as she clearly began to speak to herself. It had been two days since she'd woken up without the comfort of her soul blade, and it was starting to weigh on her. She lit the last inscense, placing it a short distance behind the girl a little awkwardly, and then moved away, sliding the last two sticks of her midnight inscense back into the parcel, and the small package once more back into the bag at her side. She had work to do. She had a large volume of work that needed to be done in a very short time, and as much as she would have liked to stay held up in her small room at the inn, she realized lack of fresh air was less then healthy. It helped things a bit that The neighbor next door threatened physical harm if he woke up once more to the smell of inscense and sound of fighting against his wall before sun up. She didn't really like him very much.

Kama had stood, brushing herself off and was suddenly made aware of another kunoichi entering the training area. Though she was a bit odd...drawing some plates and sticks, which the Uzumaki then realized were incense, and beginning to place them around the training area for some reason. Kama continued watching the girl, well woman, with some interest as she seemed absolutely focused in her work and didn’t even seem to notice the red haired kunoichi at all. When the girl finally got to Kama’s position and spoke..it was a confusing sentence about chakra sensory that didn’t really add up to Kama. Even still she got out of the way and let the woman finish what she was doing, now genuinely interested. “Well..how does this all help you figure that out? I don’t really see how some incense relates to testing chakra at all.”
The kunoichi crossed her arms, wondering if she’d get an answer from the shy girl or if she would be simply too lost in her work. Though to be honest, Kama was pretty interested in what happened. Were the incense chakra receptors of some kind? Was she going to use them to increase her senses or something? Kama found a log just out of the way, sitting cross legged as she watched curiously.
Considering chakra sensory, that was a skill Kama herself wanted to learn. If she could sense opponents around her before they could prepare to strike she would have a major advantage in pretty much any combat situation. That said, she supposed maybe some people had learned to suppress their chakra. Kama figured that no one in her class likely had this ability, as the red headed kunoichi had only learned of it from overhearing some jonin. Unlike the rest of her techniques though, Kama couldn’t just flip through some handsigns. She had to actually reach out with her spirit and mind to seek out a target and feel their presence. Not taking her eyes off of Amber, the Uzumaki tried this now. Her senses lifting outwards as she tried to pick up a feel for the woman's chakra and see if there was any telling how it moved or if Kama could follow it. Unfortunately, the girl wasn’t having much luck. For some reason her range was only about a foot, and that was if the young kunoichi was doing it correctly. Perhaps she should just continue watching the other ninja...

"What?" her head turned to the side at the girl's question. She was certain that the correlation between her incense and learning about chakra sensory was nonexistent. Why would she think tha... OH. It finally dawned on her that she was coming to an assumption based on her actions and her comment about needing to finish her training on sensory.
"no no. incense wouldn't help me with sensory... Or at least not this incense. THis incense is actually geared towards concentration on the abilities of Yin release that have been passed down from clan member to clan member for years to come. Goodness. Did you realize that your hair is really really red?" This was uncharacteristic of the Demon of Chance. She was chit chatting in a way that honestly threw her off her guard in worrisome ways. The moment she finished her statement and realized the situation her demeanor changed. She stood up strait and tall... Or at least as tall as a woman barely over five feet could stand, and the animated expression across her face faded. Her look resonated a poise and trained intention that seemed a direct opposite to before.
It seemed this girl was going to be around while she trained, which was not the ideal situation. From the bag at her side she drew a small scroll. Unraveling it she glanced at the symbols written vertically across it's weather worn surface. Thankfully she'd had a chance to copy a few pointers from the vaults of Konohakagure, wait. She didn't copy anything. SHe'd never been to konohakagure. This was an interesting development. It seems that the placeholder had taken a trip to what was their clans home town, and these memories were naturally offered to her in order to assist in her training. The jutsu was incredibly simple. In a manner similar to the way that she'd pushed chakra from her body to test her skill in sensory she began to call forth chakra from her heart point. In order to more effectively use her chakra, she first began by connecting the seven points of chakra within her body. Solar. Northward to throat. Third eye. crown. Heart once more to solar. Solar to sacral, and finally to her main focus point. As the chakra connected with her root point she allowed it to flow into the ground. The shadows behind her, created simply by the movement of the sun, grew darker as she called upon their power, but did not yet move. She knew she needed more power poured into them to cause movement, and that upon achieving the beginning steps of Yin manipulation there were several techniques she could do. each method required different hand seals and concentration on manipulating the darkness in different ways. Thing sharp cylinders could be formed into sharpened tendrils with the strength to sew their target to the ground, imobilizing or cutting through their flesh with sharpened knife like apendages. With flat chakra and a water like flow she could use the trademark of her clan, the shadow imitation technique. In a similar fashion of course, she would need to think of her chakra like a cloak wrapping about her body, insilating and keeping her warm. This would be the baseline technique of her people. The cloak of the night.

Kama followed closely to the girl's words as she explained what the incense actually did as opposed to what the Uzumaki had thought she meant. It seemed this woman was from some kind of clan, though which one wasn’t immediately obvious. Hoshi was home to many clans and even more wanderers and drifters as of late. So the amount of clans changed as the days went by and the young Kunoichi wasn’t going to be bothered with keeping up with everyone. Though the woman's comment on the incense regarding Yin release peaked her interest. If Kama was remembering correctly, Yin release was the one that governed the spiritual energy that was connected to imagination. Those that used it could theoretically make just about any jutsu that they could figure out how to perform. Though the Uzumaki had never heard of using incense to focus on it, it was safe to assume that it apparently could be done...at least by whatever clan this woman was apart of. The redheaded kunoichi herself didn’t actually know what release even governed her chakra chains though she supposed it could be Yin as well. Next the woman commented on Kama’s hair which through her off, causing her face to nearly match it in color.
Though before the girl could comment on the statement, the woman’s demeanor just sort of changed. She almost seemed to have realized that she was having small talk or something and that it bothered the woman. While the Uzumaki didn’t really want to bother the other woman, her practices were odd and curious and Kama honestly wanted to know what she was going to do next. “Thanks...I guess? Not a lot of people around here share my hair color and tend to find it..weird honestly.”
Going back to her previous skill, she began attempting to feel out the woman’s chakra to see if she could get any sort of clue from there. She tried to imagine the energy leaving her body in a tendril like fashion, touching the woman and anyone else in the vicinity and revealing to the Uzumaki their location and the flow of whatever they were doing. Though outwardly it wouldn’t look like it, the redhead was trying extremely hard at this technique even if she really wasn’t making much progress at it. Kama somewhat wished Hikari was around, as the jonin herself likely knew how chakra sensory worked just fine and would be able to show the younger Uzumkai. It was around then Kama noticed the shadows darkening behind the other kunoichi, her eyes widening. “W-Woah! Is that what Yin release does?”
Kama would hop up from her stump, running around the edge of the training ground and try to increase her senses a bit further. The uzumaki didn’t want to intrude on the women's circle, but she did manage to get a little closer to the shadows the woman was focusing on and watching them intently for any sign as to what jutsu or technique the woman was going to try to attempt. Kama hadn’t even known Yin release could do stuff like this...though she supposed one's imagination was rather limitless in that regard. Even still, Kama dreamed of being able to perform techniques like that someday, and urged her senses ever outward to get a glimpse of how the woman appeared to be able to manipulate her chakra in such a way that it would affect her shadow. Kama’s senses extended a bit further, but even still she wasn’t getting much of anywhere. Perhaps she didn’t have enough chakra reserves or her control was bad? The kunoichi wasn’t sure but that didn’t mean she was going to stop trying.

"Oh. Really? " she thought for a moment. It was odd to her that hair color would be a feature important enough to people within the village that it could cause judgment. To be fair she had personally spent large periods of time going through worlds with the most vibrant royal blue hair imaginable. Thinking back, she considered it possible that at points the color of her hair had caused distrust, but more then likely it was the enormous scythe almost always within her hands that had caused her issues in the past. The answer wasn't fully clear. As her thoughts slipped past general faux pas of unnatural hair color she allowed the energy to call out with her full strength towards the shadow behind her. She'd heard that a skilled shadow manipulation user could conjure the cloak through their own chakra, having little need to draw the black mass behind them to aid. She was not yet a user proficient in the yin techniques of her clan.
The shadow behind her began to expand, the small thin lines that had made up her legs combining together until her shadow was a single circular mass. From the back of her heels it began to draw up her body, spiraling over her feet and up her calves at a rate she was certain could be made much more quickly were she proficient, but as said, she was not yet proficient. As she continued to concentrate on the ever blackening form across her body, the girl spoke again. SHe seemed incredibly surprised and almost excited to see the power granted by her Yin release, at the lowest level.
"What? I mean... I suppose? This is a technique that uses yin chakra instead of elemental. I suppose that makes it a yes? " Were there other ways to use yin release chakra? She could only assume. Her chakra began to shift as she concentrated on the filtering of her power in order to more effectively facilitate her yin release. She naturally drew chakra with a water nature, pouring it between her chakra points in a strait line that ended at her root point, but as she continued to struggle to control the black energy curling up her body she found greater ease in controling the flow of chakra more precisely. She filtered out the suiton chakra first, cutting the flow of blue tinted chakra the moment it reached her throat point. It rotated at a yin and yang mix through her third eye and back down. At her solar point she began to slow the flow of yang, and as she had planned the final result was pure yin chakra pouring from her root point into the cloak at her feet. Like black lace the cloak began to expand, wrapping itself up and over her hips, around her waist and across her breast. With the cloak nearly done she turned her attention to the girl once more, checking to see if she'd succeeded in her path.

The woman seemed confused by the Uzumaki’s statement that her hair was judged upon. Perhaps she didn’t get the same kind of prejudice from wherever she came from. Hair color was a pretty silly thing to judge someone by..Kama just wondered why people did it then. It was probably a moot point that didn’t really matter in the long run after but she was still left to wonder about it. She tried to clear those thoughts from her mind, getting back to the task at hand. She was trying to figure out how to use her chakra to sense another person out after all and couldn’t just waste time about thinking why people were generally awful. First though, Kama watched as the woman gathered the black mass of shadow around her, seeming to be gaining proficiency in whatever technique she was going about performing. Kama supposed there were a myriad of ways to use shadows as a defensive move, and once again tried to expand her senses outward to feel whatever the girl was doing, or gain some glimpse into how the technique was being performed. Even still she only had the faintest glimmer of light in her mind's eye. The woman’s presence could sort of be felt by the Uzumaki but it was rather faint and not really fully there, as if she was shifting in and out of reality or something. In truth, this was because Kama couldn’t keep her senses focused outward for very long and the woman would fade from her sensory within seconds of appearing. The Uzumaki was using an almost radar version of the technique which wasn’t going to help her at all in a combat situation. She needed to be able to sense and continue feeling her target until they were down or found some way to hide themselves from her senses. In hope though, perhaps she could find a way to expand her chakra senses so far as to be unable to be hid from, and eternally alert.
These far off dreams were unhelpful, for at the moment the girl simply needed to extend herself and keep her senses locked onto the target at hand, being the aqua haired woman. Kama realized that the woman was answering the Uzumaki’s earlier question about Yin chakra and nodded politely at the explanation, not trying to show any outward sign of training herself at the same time. It likely wouldn’t be an issue that the older kunoichi was the target for her sensory exercise but all the same she would rather not be called out on it. It would end up like that time she attempted a substitution jutsu to skip class. Kama herself thought the idea had been brilliant but her teachers had rather vehemently disagreed about this. Inwardly, the Red Head tried to focus further and envelop the area in her senses so she could sense anything around that was chakra based or had chakra. The one thing that immediately came to mind was of course Amber’s shadow manipulation that she was working on. Silently happy, the Uzumaki was finally feeling some real progress she just needed to focus a bit more and keep that focus consistent. It would help nothing if her target was constantly fading in and out of her mind's eye and being lost in a battle. This technique would also put her ahead of her entire class and this made the girl extremely pleased. She desired to be the best and so far, the Uzumaki was at least top of her class in ninjutsu. None of the other students really had any medical techniques either though Kama’s wasn’t really for battle anyway.
The Kunoichi realized she had stopped paying attention to the woman for a moment, finally noticing the black chakra moving up the woman's body, encasing her in some kind of shroud. Kama was suitably impressed, whether or not she knew what it would do. The way the shadows seemed to so easily blend in with any of her surroundings, the red headed kunoichi figured it was a stealth technique of sorts. This would make sense being the woman was a manipulator of shadows. “Wow thats...really cool looking. You’d be able to be almost invisible if you stayed hidden somewhere dark.”
Kama nodded pretty much to herself and managed the woman being able to slip through the town undetected if she stayed to the alleyways and sewer system. The Uzumaki was almost tempted to ask how to perform the technique but that would be quite taboo. Most, if not all, clan techniques would be forbidden to outsiders of the clan except in very rare occasions. Even then, Kama had heard most clan mates would rather die than give up any of their secret jutsu and techniques. Still, the jutsu was awfully neat looking...

Finally the cloak finished its movement up her body. Every inch of her body was covered by the thin black veil of Yin release chakra, the sheen of energy dulling as the technique finished fully. It wasn't terribly hard to do, she thought to herself, immediately releasing the technique. It felt like there was something she was missing. There was some aspect of this that would make it more useful, she was sure, but what?
"There has to be a way of making this better. There was a reason it was required by the clan head so long ago. " Cutting the flow of chakra through her body for barely a moment she began to summon energy a second time. Having learned the essence the Yin release she could skip the slow summoning step, which was good. Instead of having to figure out how to cleanse the chakra she is using, she simply summoned only her powerful yin chakra. Initially she'd decided to also skip the long process of accessing each of her chakra points, taking her power directly from her heart and into her solar point. It didn't work well. The black energy coalesced but failed to release itself from her skin, causing a small black circle across her chest before it dissipated fully.
"Oh apologies. I think I was lost in thought again. This is honestly my first attempt at using the Yin release of my clan. Thankfully I was able to send for temporary scrolls for the techniques I would need, which reminds me. " She drew the scroll from her bag once more, opening it to study it for barely a moment before drawing the flint and tinder and lighting it on fire. It was important, she was told by a jounin who'd come to her to give assistance in the techniques of their clan so long ago. her father had been ecstatic upon hearing that she would finally be learning to take on the power of chakra control, and.... How did she know that? It felt so matter of the fact. The situation was simple, but it wasn't her memories. Once more small dribbles of understanding slid into her mind from the past she'd taken over. It was actually slightly unsettling. She waited a few moments to ensure that the entirety of the scroll had been burned to nothingness, and then continued her training. "sorry. it's important that this not get into the wrong hands. It was the long time status of my father that... nevermind. I just assure you it was important. " Had the scroll been taken it would take a large volume of time to figure out the secret code she'd ensured the scroll was coded into, of course, but safety first.
WIth this done she once more put her full concentration on the power of her shadow chakra. She shifted the flow from her heart chakra upward to create the connection, while simultaneously pouring a stream downward to prepare to leave her body. She'd heard that over time more chakra points would be usable. she hoped she could figure that out soon. This time, the strength was there in significant force. Instead of taking shadow from the darkness behind her the chakra poured across her body, out of her chest and upward from the ground beneath her. The cloak poured out from her head, chest and feet quickly filling the space until once more the only thing not cloaked was her radiant blue eyes.

Kama nods to Amber as she describes that this is her first time using her clan's techniques. The Uzumaki herself had yet to unlock her bloodline ability herself, the Adamantine Attacking Chains. It didn’t seem to matter how much she tried, the girl couldn’t quite seem to form them from her tenketsu. The girl looked over her own hands curiously but chose not to dwell on it, those chains wouldn’t help her advance her chakra sensory at all anyway. As the girl began reforming her shadows, Kama extended her senses once again and tried to feel the increase to Amber’s chakra. She sighed and for once closed her eyes, feeling the woman out for her chakra. For once, the feeling of her presence didn’t fade and seemed to remain stable. It was looking very likely that the technique was well within the Kunoichi’s grasp. She opened her eyes, feeling as if another sense had been awakened entirely as she could now, very clearly, sense out chakra within some feet of her. A good amount of it was coming from Amber of course, but the Uzumaki was still glad she seemed to have awakened the ability within her. As she seemed to master the technique she was learning, Amber was mastering hers. “Hey, looks like you're all covered in darkness...or shadow..whatever the case it looks cool. Oh! I’m Kama by the way, Kama Uzumaki. It was cool watching you learn that technique!”

She released the cloak once more. her head was spinning. What was this? She had been blessed with a well of power granted by the scythe of sorrow for many years. Sorrow gave her the fear of the worlds, and understanding of the cruelty that could be caused by humanity, but along with it came a powerful gift. The natural mana regeneration ability of her scythe ensured she could use her magic without fear, and even having sacrificed it's power down to the base it offered an incredible sense of protection in the regenerative properties it offered the twins. Through them she could cast the life saving magic needed. Because of that, the sensation of her energy reserves running near empty was something she'd not experienced in long enough to believe it impossible.
She took a staggered step back, catching her footing finally. She needed to sit down for a moment. Taking a few steps across the training fields, any thought of poise in her step sacrificed for the time being. There was thankfully a bench just off to her left, set about at the center of the area. She let herself down on the hard wood a little too hard, her left hand palm down and pulsing painfully at the impact.
"Yea. It's help.. helpful, or so I hear. It took quite a bit more out of me then i'd expected though. Wh.. What are you working on kama uzumaki?" She wondered how long of a rest period was needed to regenerate her chakra reserves. It was a wierd thing having to actually consider that. Wierd but humbling. Her head pulsed. It would be important in the future, she thought, to find a way to increase the volume of chakra within her body. She never wanted to feel this sensation again.
