Mining For Steel (C Ranked Mission)

Keita had been looking for something to do one day, when he went over to the mission board so that he could grab a mission, make some money, and get on with the week while doing something productive. He was going to go ahead and look through the missions, and as he was walking around the administrative building waiting for the other people that were there to finish up looking through the available missions before he could go up and look through them. He did not like to be one of those people that pushed through others just so that he could see and save a few minutes, as it seemed like that would be pretty rude to the other people, especially the ones that were there first. The day was quite early, so there were quite a few people waiting their turn to get on a mission, and during this time, Keita simply unsealed a cup of tea from his scroll and began to sip it while sitting at a nearby table. The weather was fairly nice, although a bit chilly and humid, although that seemed to be the norm in Kiri, so most of the people had gotten used to that decent weather year round. Keita was looking outside and admiring the weather and the fragrance that the mist made linger around the village, when it seemed that a group of people had cleared out from the mission board. Keita walked up slowly, placing his tea on the table so that he could come back to it in a bit, and he eventually settled his eyes on the mission boards selection of missions that wanted them to go and help out some people in return for actual tangible materials that they could use to forge or get forged high quality weapons or items. It seemed that these missions were fairly popular due to the sheer number of people lining up to get them, and there were only a few of them left, so Keita's eyes wandered to one that wanted him and a partner, at least two people, to go and forge their own steel, and assist the smelter  in processing the materials so that they could more easily send out the quota that the village needed. There seemed to be a very high demand for high quality steel, and the smelters asked for ninja help so that they could continue meeting everyone's demands for their steel while they hired additional workers over the short term. Keita did not mind this though, and it seemed like the perfect mission that he could do, as he always loved learning new things, especially something as interesting and technical as smelting together steel alloy. Keita agreed to the mission immediately, before walking back to his table and finishing his tea. He was slowly sipping more and more tea while he was waiting for his partner to show up, and then they could immediately leave for a small smelter in the outskirts of the Island Country.

As usual, Kizmaru had been slaving away at the Mizukage table, filling out requests and stamping papers with his seal of approval. This time however, he wasn't in any immediate hurry as he did so since he was actually ahead in his quota for a change and could leisurely work at his pleasure. Still, he was quite burnt out on just paperwork so he figured he could take a little break. As usual, he wore his Kage attire with a veil that was attached to his hat to mask his identity from the public. Getting up from his seat, Kizmaru walked over towards the common area of the office in order to change into his disguise known as 'Kizmaru the Jounin.' Chuckling to himself, he found it out that his real identity was being used an alias to hide that he was actually the Mizukage and goes off just pretending to be a simple Jounin of the village. He needed to come up with an alias though for other Kages and Daimyo to address him by as not many people have seen what he looks like at the moment nor have they met with him in person. Well, he figured taking a mission and thinking about it would do him some good instead of sitting down in his chair all day. One thing that caught his interest as he worked on paperwork earlier was recently, people have discovered valuable resources of ore. He's been meaning to get his hands on some himself in order to study it and turn into useful weaponry for himself later on.

Wearing his Jounin Flak jacket, Kizmaru had set out from his office and down the corridor before reaching the stairs that led down to the lobby. He had nodded towards the receptionist who seems to have nodded back and directed Kizmaru's direction towards another person that had been waiting for a partner to do the exact mission he was curious on performing himself. The male seemed to be drinking some kind of hot beverage as he waited for somebody to take a mission with him. What a stroke of luck, Kizmaru thought to himself as he approached the waiting Genin. "I guess we're doing the smelting quest together buddy. Seems to me thats the only thing left to do. Come on then, I'll be your partner for this assignment. I don't believe we've formally met, my name is Kizmaru. Even though we've ran missions together a couple of times, I don't think we've introduced ourselves though. Pleasure to be working with you." He recognized him from an interrogation mission they had done before but he didn't remember his name or if he even gave Kizmaru one. Either way, it didn't matter since now he would correct the mistakes he made previously. He was going to get along with this guy since he was in need of a partner for secret missions in the future other than these menial tasks. He hoped to test this boy in order to see what was in store for the future.

Keita was waiting in the reception area for the other person that would go on the mission with him, and luckily for him, he did not need to wait long at all before he heard some light foot steps and turned his head to the newcomer to see. Keita saw that the man was a fairly impressive looking jounin, what with the flack jacket and all, and Keita subconsciously sat up a little straighter in his chair, before standing up and politely greeting the jounin with a bow. Keita listened to what the man had to say, and apparently the man was the one going on the mission with him, which was fantastic, as that made it much easier to complete, and it solved whether or not Keita needed to be the head of the mission or not, as the jounin would naturally be leading them both on this one. Keita was also glad that the man was fairly easy to talk with, and seemed to be friendly as well, although he did not need to be at all, and that was a great relief for Keita, as he was always one to enjoy people he could talk to without them being a brick wall or a dis likable person. The man introduced himself as Kizmaru, so Keita felt that there was a need to do so back, and with a bit more respect, as he did not frequently interact with the jounin of the village, so he was slightly stiff and nervous at first. 

"Ahh, my name is Keita, Uzumaki Keita sir, and it is also a great pleasure to be working with you today on this mission, I feel a bit assured that a Jounin is going with me, and I will follow your lead. Also I do remember you from the previous mission as well, and I hope that I did a decent enough job at it, although I still do not think I have the stomach for 'interrogation'." Keita stated, and he was wondering if he should be less humble, but he was simply telling the truth, and that was that he did not enjoy torturing other people, so he definitely was not going to lie to his new partner here. After the greetings and introductions were out of the way, the team could safely go out to the countryside and head to the smelter, where Keita immediately took to the furnace when the man was talking about how to smelt things, and absorbed the methods quickly. He was not quite a natural, but he easily remembered the instructions and did not mess them up, although it was difficult for him to tell when he needed to have the fire hotter or not, and when to stop folding the steel into itself. After a couple of hours of work, they were presented with their own small ingots of hardened steel as compensation for completing then mission, and headed back home. 

"Well, it was definitely a pleasure working with you, and I hope we can do so again in the future Kizmaru." Keita said as he was waving goodbye to his new acquaintance .

Kizmaru chuckled at the other shinobi’s response and was glad to know that he remembered him. Kiri shinobi were lacking in terms of numbers nowadays and he would like to get to know the few that have stuck with Kirigakure as a whole in order to keep tabs on their deeds. Well, enough chit-chat for now. It was time for them to go out and fulfill their mission. Travelling to the countryside with his partner, they were both outfitted with pickaxes in order to mine the iron ore that had just been discovered recently. It took a little while to get the hang of it since this was his first time mining in general but soon took a liking to it. It was a different kind of training in his eyes and he figured shinobi could use this kind of experience to learn other things than how to be a lethal killing machine. Of course, he still valued strength among anything else but he’d also encourage learning miscellaneous skills like mining, forging and crafting. Soon after they were done mining, they had put it in a cart they had brought along in order to wheel it back to the smelter they were going to use for the second part of the mission.

They were then taken to a local smelter to learn the basic and advanced methods of smelting ore. Alongside Keita, he absorbed the knowledge of handling ore, smelting it and reshaping the material so it could be used for technological purposes and weaponry. This was quite fascinating since he wanted to learn all he could about smelting ore into bars and eventually, learn about blacksmithing as a whole. He didn’t want to be an expert at it per se, but he’d at least like to know the basics of how his weapons are made that are put in stock for the shinobi to buy. Afterwards, they had finished up their task and it was time to part ways. He had nodded to Keita’s comment about them meeting again and returned his wave back to him before heading back to the Kage’s mansion. As he walked back, he got to keep a little bit of the iron ore that he mined as a bonus for a job well done. He couldn’t say he was very great at smelting but not everybody was good at everything they tried the first time around.

Returning to the Kage’s mansion, he greeted the receptionist and they had nodded back before returning to their work. Kizmaru headed up the stairs and down the corridor into the kage’s office before looking around to see if anything was out of the ordinary. As far as he could tell, nothing was out of place and he decided to head into the common room of the office. He figured he would take a quick nap before getting back to work going through requests and what not. All and all, he couldn’t really complain about how the day and the mission went.
