Not The Academy! (Jessie, Misaki, Yoko)
Sun Jun 14, 2020 12:04 am
Mission: B-Rank Non-Hunter Mission (Book Burning)
It was going to be another beautiful day; that was the report that Masashi got from his butler this morning on his way out the door. Nary a cloud in the sky and on the warmer side for Hoshigakure in the middle of its summer season. Fairly common for the village this time of year. Masashi didn’t mind that; it meant that his training session with most of his team would go forward as planned. The full team wouldn’t be there; Kahoru was called away at the last minute. He would be working with the other three members today. ‘Preparation for the upcoming Chuunin Exams is essential.’ He thought to himself as he made his way over to the training grounds near the village academy. ‘I want them to do their best, and that means making sure they are in top form.’
He chose the training grounds near the academy as it was further from his home, and he wanted the extra exercise, as he was still not quite back up to his full strength. Even with the extra distance it didn’t take him that long to get over there. The training grounds were deserted for now. That would of course change when his team showed, so Masashi leaned up against a tree, and waited for them to show up so that they could go over the plans for the day.

Soma Shin woke up early that day. He was super excited because it was the first day he was working with his new team. He was not sure what was going to be on the schedule but he was excited to see what was going to happen. He got dressed in his usual green outfit. He made sure to polish the green crystal plate in his headband. He wanted it to look pristine and ready for action. He did not want to give the impression that he did not care. He hoped today would go well. He wanted to make a good impression on his new team and sensei. He knew teamwork was not always his strongest attribute. He could be a bit reckless and did not always communicate things very well. He talked to his grandfather who wished him luck. He ate a hearty breakfast. He grabbed his things and left for the training grounds. He took the shortest route possible because he was very excited which was unusual for him because he would normally just alternate routes so he could explore more and more of the Hoshigakure. Even though he knew most of the village, because he grew up here and went to town with his family all the time. He would arrive at the training grounds to see his sensei waiting for the team to arrive; he was the first one. “Good morning, sensei!” He would walk up and bow “what do we have planned for the day?” He asked.

For a group of nomads, Jessie and his family were not doing too terribly bad at settling down in the Haven village. Every day was a step forward, regardless of what they really wanted. Freedom to roam, freedom to coast whenever they pleased. Such simply freedoms were what really measured just how liberated a person can be. Hoshigakure, a village comprised of many people from many different regions, most with questionable backgrounds. Nevertheless, the people came together, and managed to coexist, to an extant. If an outcome like that could play out, then surely Jessie's family could surely pull through.
Today was the day, the genin was assigned his first mission. Who would have thought that the day he met his team from behind the counter of the quartermaster office, would turn out like so. Jessie, accompanied by his own thoughts and questions, journeyed towards the rendezvous point where the others would meet.
His attire consisted of a black shirt, a pair of black jeans, a thin blue lightweight jacket, and a pair of black sneakers all adorned on his body. A small shinobi pouch filled with tools was attached on the back right side of his belt. His head band however, due to the unwanted attention it brought which Jessie disliked, was placed within his jacket.
As he reach the meeting grounds, he sees two familiar faces. He turns to each one of them, greeting them eye to eye within a friendly distance. His tone lacked emotion, but wasn't accompanied with a stern face either; Jessie was feeling rather pleasant today.
"Good day, Sensei Masashi."
"And good day, Soma"

Yoko never intended to be late, it just kind of happened. In fact, she left home a whole hour early with every intention of being one of the first to report to the training grounds for her first official mission. Such lofty aspirations were, however, quickly scrapped in favor of a detour through the village's bustling bazaar—it would only add ten or so minutes to her travel time and give her a chance to enjoy the unique ambiance. In theory, she would still have twenty or so minutes to spare when she arrived at the training grounds despite the deviation from her initial plan. Unfortunately, said theory foundered on a thousand different merchants offering deals that the young Uzumaki found hard to resist; even though she lacked the funds with which to take advantage of such deals, she enjoyed listening to each pitch and trading barbs with the more spirited of merchants.
Then, just like that, she was late.
It took the tolling of a nearby church bell to mark the new hour to pull the genin back into reality. This turned the next five minutes into a frenzied blur as she dodged through the day's growing crowds. Narrowly avoiding being flattened by an ox cart and nearly barreling over an elderly couple on her way, Yoko arrived at the training grounds five minutes late and already winded.
"Sorry."
She paused, working to catch her breath with a few quick huffs before continuing with her apology.
"Sorry, I'm late."
Much like her soon-to-be teammates, the young girl came dressed for the upcoming mission with an eye to function over form. Wearing an outfit similar to the one she wore when first meeting Masashi, she sported a white tank top, black clave-length leggings, and a shiny village headband around her neck. Indeed, the only difference the man might notice was the swirl of the Uzumaki clan emblazoned on the front of her tank top—Yoko's mother had insisted that if she chose to wear such clothing that it properly represents her clan to the world, whatever that meant.
It would seem she was the last to arrive.

Re: Not The Academy! (Jessie, Misaki, Yoko)

Soma Misaki was the first of his team to arrive at the training grounds, which didn’t really surprise Masashi. ‘He definitely seems to be the most eager’ Masashi thought to himself as he nodded to the green-haired Genin in response to the bow he gave. “That’s a great question Soma, and I will explain in more detail when everyone else arrives, because I would prefer not to repeat myself.” He would say to the Genin with a smile and a small chuckle.
They didn’t have to wait long for the next member of their team to show up; Jessie Matalo arrived not long after Soma showed up and greeted both him and Soma. Masashi would reply in kind. “Hello Jessie, glad you could join us. We’re just waiting on one more person and then we can begin.”
The last person he was expecting, Yoko Uzumaki, did not arrive before they were supposed to start. He could see her dashing like a madwoman towards them before long though. In the end she was barely 5 minutes late, which was likely a testament to how much work she put in to try and get here on time. Masashi would smile at her as she stopped in front of them, breathing heavily. She gasped out an apology that Masashi waved off. “Nothing to worry about. You’re almost doing my job for me.” He would say with a chuckle.
Now that they were all gathered together it was time to go over the day’s plans. “Alright team, gather round. It’s time to go over the plan for today’s training exerci…”
Just as Masashi was getting started, what sounded like an explosion came from one of the Academy buildings nearby, along with what looked like a plume of smoke. Masashi would look over in that direction with some concern. “Change of plan team, we’re going to check out what the hell just happened over at the Academy. This is no longer a training exercise.” And with that, he sped off towards the Academy. Luckily for them, they were fairly close by.
As he arrived, he found a gaping hole in the wall of one of the classrooms, and a fire raging inside. Rubble was strewn everywhere, and that wasn’t all. There were bodies on the ground, a combination of students and a couple instructors. Masashi rushed to provide medical care. As he did so, another Hoshigakure Chuunin appeared and whispered some information to Masashi. Masashi would nod and the newcomer Chuunin took off. The Uzumaki team leader would look to his team as they arrive.
“Current intel suggests that a rogue religious faction planted some form of explosive here. Your task now is to assist with containment of the fire, and evacuation of any remaining students and instructors that are in the Academy buildings. Be warned, there is the possibility that there are other explosives inside that have not been detonated. If you find any, do not be a hero. I will be remaining here and using this area to treat wounded. Bring any injured students or instructors here. That is all, move out!” And with that Masashi would work is way among the bodies that were already here, stabilising as many people as possible immediately, before organising volunteers to assist with triage. Any that could be moved were placed on stretchers and rushed to the hospital.

Soma Shin replies to his sensei and says “Ok I understand. We definitely need some training today.” While they were talking, another Genin, Jesse, shows up shortly after Soma Shin. “Good morning, Jesse, how are you today. Ready to train today when the rest of the team shows up? We will hopefully have fun today. Learn a lot of things from our team leader.” Soma Shin was obviously trying to act confident even though he was worried about letting his team down. They were all talking trying to get to know each other a little better when this crazy looking girl comes sprinting in. “Hello, are you the final member of the team? My name is Soma Shin Misaki. What is yours?” While they were all talking all of sudden while Masashi was explaining what the plan for the day was, his face got very serious. He explains we need to head to the academy right now because there is an emergency. As we all rush towards the Academy we see smoke filling the air. When we arrive Masashi tells us to try to save everyone and put the fires out as quickly as possible.
Soma Shin was trying to think quickly on his feet. What was he supposed to do this was not the first fire he had been a part of putting out. He was thinking about what he could do. Putting the fire out would not be too difficult but he was not very strong. How is he supposed to help carry people or support any part of the building if it were to start collapsing? How is he supposed to be any help if he is dead? He does not sure what to do. He is just going, trying to keep moving . He gets to the door and starts to walk in. He steps out though and tries to think of an idea. He thinks quickly and he comes up with an idea. He does some hand signs and out of the ground a 8 foot tall giant golem forms out of the ground. This should keep his team safe; he can catch debri and carry people if necessary. He looks back and says to his team “Anyone good at sensing others we need to find everyone? I have this golem to help with debri or to soak up explosions. If you guys can get people out I can start on the fires.” He fires fills the hallway Soma Shin does a technique and mud starts to fill and run down the hallway sweeping away any explosive tags and putting the fires out as they go. “Go on ahead And check the rooms. I'll keep the hallway clear. Unless someone has a better idea I am all ears and will to do whatever you need me to do.”

(If you want the golem to help just tell Soma Shin and unless preoccupied you can assume soma shin has it do whatever you need. You can psuedo control it in your post unless Soma Shin says it is doing something already)

Re: Not The Academy! (Jessie, Misaki, Yoko)

"Of course", Jessie said calmly yet, ever so bluntly. He could use a bit of training. His skill set currently lacked almost everything a shinobi needed to to defend themselves. The only thing he possessed were the fundamental, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Knowing the basics can provide the means to more advanced tier techniques. But what kind of shinobi would he become in terms of fighting style? Perhaps his sensei could shine more light on this particular dilemma. His eyes wander off away from Misaki's path while in thought, slowly drifting from one question to another. Nevertheless, he snaps back into focus upon hearing the last member of the team arrive to the scene on their own accord. How long was he in thought this time?
With the whole team now present, he adheres to the command of the leader after nodding towards the finally member, paying no mind to anymore obstacles within his mind. However, before the sensei was cut short, along with the today's training, due to an explosion going off from the distance. His focused forcibly snapped due to the loud yet sharp bang going off, transferring over the the now growing black cloud of thick smoke. Was there an attack on the village? He couldn't help but think about his parents, the nomadic type, always roaming around. there was a chance they could've gotten caught up in the blast. gritting his teeth in worry, he clenched both his fists. Thankfully, no delay was given between the time it took for Masashi Sensei to order the team to head towards the blast right after him. Jessie stepped to the side away from his teammates and took off running towards the blast , with while trying to keep up with his sensei. He was faster than the genin, but both possessed the same level of determination to reach the bomb site.
The scene coming to into view was nothing but chaos, frighten people of all ages running around. Jessie stopped abruptly not knowing to start aiding the support teams first, or aid the injured. However, after hearing Masashi's intel, he was charged with aiding the injured. But with what? Jessie possessed nothing in his arsenal to seek out any remaining tags, but, there was another. With Misaki taking charge, he molded a towering golem made from the very earth itself. Is this what Misaki's capable of?
'Way to go, Misaki', approving his plan, he stays behind the golem at a safe distance before going in. he stays mindful of the debris and fires while searching for the injured. With little time passed he finds a couple near a corner surrounded with debris. This looked like a job for the loader golem. after checking the area for anything suspicious, he waves his hand towards the golem for assistance; while also pointing towards the two injured students.

Re: Not The Academy! (Jessie, Misaki, Yoko)
Sat Jun 20, 2020 1:12 pm
"Oh, my name's Yoko," she replied, jabbing a self-important finger into her own chest as if dispel any confusion about whom she was speaking. "Yoko Uzum—"
A concussive blast interrupted the young genin's introduction setting her teeth on edge and her ears ringing. Billows of black smoke and screams made all the more distant by her compromised hearing drew the girl's attention to the ghastly source of the commotion: the academy aflame. Everything felt fuzzy and almost dreamlike—maybe that was what this was: a dream, nothing more. Surely, she'd wake in her bed with her mother scolding her for sleeping in again, and the dream would fade quickly from her consciousness until it too was swallowed up by the passage of time. Yes, that had to be it; in a few moments reality would fade away and she'd be back home in her bed safe and sound.
Instead of fading, however, reality sharpened and clarified with their team leader's voice breaking through the din—this wasn't a dream. In an instant, her former fatigue was forgotten as adrenaline flooded her body, and she found her legs pumping faster than they ever had before in a vain attempt to keep up with her compatriots whose vastly superior speed brought them to the scene of the explosion a few seconds before Yoko.
The disaster that greeted the team was just that: splintered wood, mangled bodies, and muted cries coming both from within the academy and from without. The air smelled of sulfur, smoke, and iron—a strange mixture that the Uzumaki girl would not soon forget. And, to make matters worse, it seemed that panic had permeated the air and infected both victims and bystanders alike. Indeed, even Yoko, for all her normal bluster and courage, felt the weight of despair begin to tug at the edges of her mind in its attempt to immobilize her in the face of tragedy—was the village under attack? Was Valen Akari back to exact the destruction he had once promised the village?
Once more, it took the voice of Masashi to ground the girl, bring her back to reality, and spur her to action. Moving through the wreckage along with Soma and the other genin, Yoko watched in awe as an earthen contract rose from the ground and began its march through the academy that the genin knew so well. At the urging of Soma, she moved through the familiar halls tracing a path that she once dreaded to the room she most despised: Yoshikawa Sensei's classroom. This time, however, it was not the end of lunch bell drawing her to the classroom but rather the cries of something that was almost animalistic but also unmistakably human.
Putting her full weight against the door, Yoko pushed it open bit by bit until there was a gap just big enough for her to slip through and into the classroom. Lit only by what light filtered through the partially-collapsed ceiling, the room stood largely in long sharp shadows forcing the genin to squint into the darkness and follow the whimpers to a far corner of the room where she found a woman. With owl-like eyes and a hooked nose, the face of Yoshikawa Sensei was not one Yoko would soon forget, and yet it wore a look of pain that the genin had never seen before—the academy instructor's leg was pinned beneath a support beam.
Summoning what strength she had, Yoko worked at the beam until she was able to slide it off of her former instructor's leg. What happened next was a bit of a blur: she helped Yoshikawa to her feet, guided her through the building, and back to the impromptu medical staging area Masashi had set up. By this point, higher ranking shinobi had arrived and were starting to take over the scene; the genin had done their part to evacuate immediate survivors and now it was up to their superiors to do the rest.
"You're going to be fine," Yoko huffed, making sure to leave Yoshikawa in the queue that had formed for medical attention.
Returning her gaze to the ugly hole in the side of the academy, she took a breath before heading back in to see if there was any other way she could help—it was going to be a long day.

The Genin trio took off, their tasks being assigned. Masashi would pay less attention to his team and more to the long lines of wounded that were being directed his way. Luckily for him, there were a couple bystanders that had either basic medical ninjutsu training or worked in the hospital as nurses, so he had at least some support. His first step was to organise the volunteers; nurses would do basic triage and direct the wounded to the appropriate medical teams, those with the least medical experience would deal with the minor injuries and what they were most familiar with, and the more experienced volunteers would deal with the serious injuries. As Masashi was not only the most experienced physician on site, but the most skilled as well, he handled the most difficult problems, as well as those that were closest to death.
Try as he might, they weren’t able to save everyone; 2 students and an instructor succumbed to their wounds. It pained the Uzumaki Chuunin that he could not save everyone, but he still tried his best. The work was taxing, primarily because he had not managed to rebuild his standard levels of chakra endurance since he had ceased his self-imposed isolation, and it showed. It got to the point that just as additional support showed up, he was beginning to run low on chakra and needed to step back and allow others to take over, lest he pass out from overexertion. He had not even been working that long, all things considered. It had definitely felt like much longer, just based on the sheer number of people that needed to be helped, and how badly some people were wounded.
Masashi sat off to one side for a few minutes, to catch his breath, get some water, and collect his thoughts. During this time, he also looked around to see what his team was doing. Yoko had just brought one of the instructors back to the triage line before going back inside to help out further. ‘Jessie and Miaski were likely still inside.’ Masashi thought to himself as he took another sip of water.
He watched more shinobi entering the Academy, others coming out escorting students and instructors with varying levels of injury or trauma. It was going to be a while before the damage was repaired and the scars faded. As far as he could see, the situation was now no longer his responsibility and command was passed off to more senior shinobi who would look into what exactly happened, how it happened, and why it was allowed to take place to begin with. With that, Masashi would send a runner inside to advise his team that their part in this was finished and they could head home. Their mission reports would be due to him tomorrow, so that he could submit his own report.
Overall, Masashi was proud of how well his team handled the situation. They acted quickly and decisively. It was very likely their actions prevented more loss of life.

Soma Shin would continue down the hallways using his technique that creates mud down the hallway. He wanted to make sure that he could help his team get into every room and try to save as many people as possible. So he would walk ahead of the other two and clear the hallway with his technique. Which would keep explosive tags in the mud and move them down the hallway protecting his team. That plus keeping his golem up and running was starting to take a toll on Soma Shin. This golem would help carry people, move debri, open stuck doors, etc. He was very useful and a helpful technique to help the team. Soma Shin was very happy he could help the team.
Other shinobi began to arrive and started to help. This was good because Soma Shin was not sure how much more he was going to be able to do and started to wonder about the results. He knew they saved a bunch of people. He found out that a few had died. This deeply saddened Soma Shin but he knew they did the best they could. When he got out to see the others he was glad to see that his team was ok. “Are you all doing alright? We should check in with Masashi and get any scrapes or burns healed.” So after checking in with Masashi and getting healed up Soma Shin was going to head home. He was proud of what he was able to accomplish today. And was told to turn in his report tomorrow. Soma Shin was exhausted though and went home and took a long nap before he would even attempt to write his report. He woke up ate a nice dinner and wrote his report for Masashi.
