Expanding the greenhouse: Part 1 (Private)
Sun Jun 28, 2020 6:23 pm
Mission: Ghost of a Rose
It hadn’t rained for several weeks. It wasn’t uncommon for Hoshigakure to go for long periods of time without adequate rainfall. That made it difficult in most cases to grow much in the area that wasn’t native to the hidden village. Luckily for Masashi Uzumaki-Akari, he had built a greenhouse and hydroponics bay on his family’s estate. It allowed him to grow many plants that weren’t from around here. It gave him the ability to learn much about what flora in the country and surrounding area were helpful or harmful to the villagers of Hoshigakure. It was thanks to this hard work and research that had allowed Masashi to create the Nerve Agent MU-A 33A, a very potent substance that acted as a sedative.
His research was still far from complete; not just in terms of cataloguing the materials he’d already acquired, but also the plants that he had not yet managed to include in his extensive greenhouse collection. The most important one was the incredibly rare Haven White Rose. It was a more recent discovery; at least to his knowledge. A couple of these flowers were found earlier that month and they were donated to the primary medical facilities in Hoshi to determine whether they had any helpful or harmful properties.
It didn’t take long to find out how important this flower could be to the village and surrounding area. He’d heard tell in the medical circles that the research concluded it was an extremely powerful anti-toxin, capable of neutralising all common poisons, and most of the not so common ones. That alone made the flower incredibly important. If there was a way to find more, the village would be able to produce a standard antidote that could be carried on all missions. It could drastically alter casualty rates, especially where injury/death was caused by some form of toxin. That’s not to say it will be a cure-all, but it would be a much bigger help than anything that’s currently available.
The biggest problem though was the rose itself was incredibly difficult to come by. And the information that the original people that discovered the rose was minimal at best. That didn’t stop the Hoshigakure Botanical Society though. They wanted someone to locate more of these roses and bring them back in order to study them further. As this was of great interest to Masashi, he’d requested that the mission be assigned to him. It only made sense based on his medical knowledge and wealth of experience with plants of all kinds. There was an ulterior motive for him wanting this mission; should he manage to find more than one of these roses, he would certainly be keeping some for himself to try growing them.
There was no specified end date for completing this mission, which made perfect sense since there was no easy way to determine where and when they would show up again. That being said, Masashi had some ideas on where to look and where to start digging, so to speak, but he was going to take his time and be thorough. It was already getting late, and Masashi wanted to get some proper rest before tackling the challenge head-on.
The next morning Masashi started his day as usual. He woke up and lounged in bed for an hour; the sunrise was always beautiful to watch especially as his view was over the water gardens. You couldn’t buy moments like that, especially the ability to repeat it every morning. After enjoying his hour of sloth, the Uzumaki Chuunin got out of bed, got cleaned up and made his way downstairs for breakfast. He wasn’t particularly hungry, so he only had two courses this morning. After the brief repast, Masashi decided to start off his investigation by reading over the mission report again; he’d briefly glanced at it last night, and most of the other information he had was from word of mouth working in the hospital. The report mentioned a team that originally found the first couple roses. ‘That’s the first place I should start’ Masashi thought to himself. Getting the witness accounts of the team that found the rose would shed some light on possible locations to explore. Masashi had send the members of the team requests to meet to learn more. They were to meet in an hours to go over the information that they had. Masashi got his gear and headed out. He was meeting them at the Unseen University as it was secure, and it was best to keep the details of this mission known to as few people as possible. It would be unwise for this to become general knowledge as people would seek the rose for material gain. While Masashi was looking for some roses for himself, they were purely for the benefit of the village itself.
