The train rushed along, the landscape rushing by as a soft blur. The Councilwoman across the table from him made her move, then sipped lightly from her tea. Kozai had to admit, she wasn't a bad player. Hell, she was probably better than the kage was. Nevertheless, despite her excellent defense, Kozai's bishops lanced into her back line, and his knights whirled around the board like a pair of flails. He was playing mercilessly today. If anything, he had to get across to Red that he and the Archives were an established force within the village, and that cooperating with him would be more beneficial than otherwise.
Kozai calmly placed his rook down.
"Checkmate. Well played, Councilwoman." She grunted, shook his hand and began resetting the board. Persistent woman. Thus far, he'd been able to get out of her that she agreed with him, to some extent. The very council that she was on was ineffective. Changes that she had wanted to bring about in Hoshi came far too late to be of any real benefit, due to every motion and law being tied down by red tape and bureaucracy. Kozai didn't trust the council one way or the other, though he certainly didn't say that here. Gaining an ally within the civilian council, however, was a valuable resource to draw on. Once he retrieved the lost royalty of the village, he could simply dismantle the council.
"Very well. You have first move this time." Red moved her knight. Excellent.
