The difference between bravery and stupidity was a fine line. At the moment Kota found himself using that line as a skipping rope. He had heard a tale of a mysteriously cloaked figure. If a person was to find the figure and grab it, it would grant a wish in exchange for being set free. Kota had some free time and knew it was a long shot. As long as there was any chance to heal his mother he thought that he should take it. The worst that could happen was a bit of time wasted. As he had no jobs lined up he may as well.

The night air was a bit chilly. It should have stayed warm with the dome controlling the weather. The only reason Kota could think as to why the weather was so sucky was to fit the scary spirit. Warm weather when a festival was about to pop up would have killed the mood. Even now as he looked for the scary cloaked figure, he felt like the cold chill was thirty percent the excitement.

“Excuse me, have you seen a mysterious figure?” Kota decided to stop and ask for directions. He asked a big boned lady, who looked like she never skipped a meal, with a friendly smile. She merely gave him a smile and pointed in a general direction. Kota felt like she was really into the spirit. Her creepy demeanor gave the dark sky ambience. “Thank you.” Saying his thanks, Kota went into the direction he was pointed to. It took about a three minute walk and five minutes of searching. It was then that Kota could see a mysterious shadow in the distance. He believed it was the figure he had to catch.

Kota ran towards the shadow that he saw. “Stop running. I swear my wish is minor.” Kota shouted to the mysterious figure as he chased it. At this time he just thought it was a person in a costume. He paid no attention to the side channels he was running down. The figure disappeared all of a sudden and Kota had to give up. Walking back he caught sight of a figure on the ground. As he got closer a chill stroked his spine. The sight of the dead body was chillin. Kota did not scream out of reflex. The eerie silence of the night put him on edge. Training in various places, he was aware that the sound of silence was more scary than animal noises. Silence meant that danger was still lurking nearby.

He pulled the dagger out of the body and ran as fast as he could. He did not shake the sensation that death was near even after speaking to the patrol in charge. They gave him some ryo as he reported the body and location. A death raised the alertness of everyone, even himself. Kota went back home nervous till the sun rose up the next day. Finally taking the time to get some sleep.
