Re: A Sacrifice worth making?
Fri Oct 08, 2021 4:25 pm
They weren't getting out of the room just yet. Reminisce wasn’t able to completely make it to the large statue within the center of the room, before the ground rumbled at her feet. She was only able to see the other companions for a mere split second, before they were forced apart by a new obstacle. Rem let out a confused shout, before everything went dark.
It was like she was back in her own little segment, separated from the others. Stretching her arms out in front of her cautiously as her red eyes glowed within the dark room. There was a dim light coming from the bottom of the room, as if some sort of button. But even that light soon abandoned her to the darkness as it disappeared to leave behind an empty small hole. The hole provided nothing to help with escaping.
There was no way to know how the others were doing. All that there was, was the dull echo of what seemed to be voices, but their words were unclear. If they ended up being trapped in their own room as well, she was sure that they all were sharing the same confusion as her.
Her thoughts were soon interrupted by a spoken phrase. One that sounded clear as day, but in a tone dark as night.
“This you’ve had since the day you were born,
A gift from father or mother.
And when you’re gone it’s what they’ll mourn,
Until it’s given to another”.
The words seem to echo through her mind. It was obvious that those words were important to understand. A riddle of some sorts that needed to be solved.
“Something given from either mother or father. . “ The question sent a pain through her heart, undesirable memories threatened to break free from the closed off wall that hid far within her mind. This was not the time or place for such weakness to hinder her.
The sound of water brought her back to focus, only to find that her segment was slowly filling with black pitch liquid. “It just keeps getting worse.” Rem exclaimed to herself, not too happy about the cold fluid that was creeping up to her knees. She pushed herself to ignore the icky sensation, and focus on the riddle. “When someone is gone. . the thing that is mourned is. . their name?” The ick was flooding even more and her clothing was starting to get heavier from the wet weight. “A name is a gift chosen from one or the other.” She was feeling certain of it, the answer must be her name. If not. . she was doomed.
“R-reminisce Uchiha. . that is my name!”
Saying her full name out loud also added to the pain within her chest. She never was fond of her full name. Never liked hearing it out loud. But it was her full name that stopped the water from flowing, and for her to continue towards the next task.
Her prison didn’t open up like Rem was hoping for. Nope. Instead her floor started to shake, after the ick drained away. She wasn’t going to just stand in place and find out how far she may fall if her floor was to break open. Rem hopped towards one of the walls, as it seemed to still be standing sturdy. The only way she could think to stick to it, was following one of the simple techniques learned from the beginning. Using the chakra she focused at her feet to stand solid against the wall’s surface. But of course things didn’t get any easier, only crazier.
The intercom came back to life, as new directions were voiced loudly amongst them. Their trail wasn’t over. Rem’s sharingan eyes glanced wearily over the surface of her wall, during the mention of scattered booby traps, and the result of what would happen if they were triggered.
A ugly roar interrupted the intercom, sending a tremor through the atmosphere, as well down the kunoichi’s spine. Her eyes darted down to take in the sight of the massive monster beneath her feet. “You gotta be kidding me.” This was one of the few times that Rem prayed to avoid any clumsy incidents. She heard the voice of Isemori calling out on how to avoid the booby traps. Nodding her head in understandment as her eyes looked over the wall, noting the little indent breaks that were almost invisible. If one was in too much of a hurry, it would be easy to get caught in one of the traps.
She kicked off into the direction of her ceiling. It was time to end this and break the seals. The monster growling beneath them was a lovely reminder that they still gotta hurry. Dodging carefully to avoid any triggers that could end her for good. Even if one was to perish, their seal would still be taken care of, but Rem couldn’t afford to end yet. She still had a goal. It would be difficult to rest when she made zero progress towards that goal.
“But a sacrifice has yet to be made -” Remembering one of the tasks that was spoken before.
“My ninja path - is to become worthy within the eyes of my red lion, and the eyes of my father’s spirit. I will not be satisfied until I succeed!” Her voice rang with confidence, despite knowing how far she is from that path. The seal above her broke away.

Falling.
Falling.
Endlessly tumbling down through the darkness once more. When had he ever not been? It was like each dream he had was one he fell through like a tangle of webs, catching but a glimpse of scenes both beautiful and wicked. This one, however, seemed to stir something within him. The sight of his companions being enclosed in their boxes, sent to whatever fate awaited them. And once more, he was powerless to stop it. He relived the moment for ages, watching time and again as the walls enclosed around the young Hoshi ninja and swept them away. Yuuma might have felt despair were it not for the curling darkness that had accumulated at the edge of his vision unleashing a low, hellish snarl.
In a flurry of movement, Yuuma violently awoke in his bed with heavy breaths and beads of sweat dripping down his forehead. Knuckles whitened their grip into the blankets around him as he struggled to compose himself. It took only but a few moments of indulging in the quiet of his room in the back of the shop. Thanks to his improved living situation, he was much closer to the center of town. This provided him with the subtle ambient backdrop of the little nightlife Hoshi had. Long, slow breaths would find their way from the Genin as he pushed himself up to his feet in order to stumble over to the sink in the kitchen of the small studio. A turn of the faucet would produce a bit of cold water then used to splash over his face a couple of times as Yuuma gathered himself. Bracing the sides of the sink, he'd shake off the wet tips of his hair from the splash and force himself to stand upright.
"A dream...just a dream...Nothing more." A mantra he repeated to himself through the night until his peace of mind was able to return once more.

Re: A Sacrifice worth making?
Sat Oct 09, 2021 8:25 pm
As Emi wandered around the room for a minute, she started to hear the crackling of the intercom. No doubt it would be the creeper person in charge of putting them in this horrific nightmare. The young kunoichi felt anger and rage boiling up inside of her. ”How could anyone want to do this to someone? Especially when those people had never done anything to harm you. I can’t stand it”. About the time these thoughts wisped away from her mind, Ise and Rem both popped out of their stone chambers. She was glad that they were alright, though she was getting a little worried about Yuuma. ”Was he crushed as the floor collapsed?”
The young genin would shake her head slightly to rid herself of that thought, she had to stay strong and calm, making sure that they still would succeed in this mission. The intercom finally stopped crackling… a voice…. that voice… it had come back. At first it was talking back with Ise, who was having trouble controlling his emotions, though Emi wouldn’t blame him for that. After their little quip, the voice offered something up. Traps lined the wall all the way and as Emi’s eyes fixated on the ceiling, it began to open from left to right – showing the moonlight, as well as their means for escape.
”As you may have guessed by now, granted you made it out of that alive, the hole above you is your only means of escape. Climb up to and deactivate the barrier’s seals. How you deactivate the seals is simple. Say your shinobi way, voila! Home Free! But do be careful though. The walls you’re standing on now have boobie traps scattered all over it. Trigger one of the booby traps and you’ll die from a rather nasty explosion. Another thing is, if one of you dies, your seal will automatically deactivate, leaving only two seals left. Also … there’s one last thing …”
The young kunoichi tried to pay close attention to what the man over the intercom was saying, though it became increasingly difficult to hear as he continued on. As her golden eyes continued to look above her, she noticed only two seals atop to break the barrier. ”Why? Why are there only two?” As the voice over the intercom finished, her eyes swiftly moved down, noticing an inhuman creature moving upwards towards the shinobi.
As Rem and Isemori quickly moved up, Emi let her eyes wander around just a bit longer. She would HAVE to locate that seal for everyone to get out – because it was up top and if she followed suit, they were all dead. Ise had noticed the indents in the wall and called out that they were traps, likely something he could see while having his Sharingan activated. Emi appreciated that information, it made it easy for her to maneuver around and not worry so much about hitting a trap.
”Damn, that thing is moving quickly. Come on, Emi… you have got to find it.” As the large creature had moved slightly up, she spotted the seal. It was directly in the center of the floor, on the bottom… yes, the floor that was breaking apart. It was crazy that the seal was still holding up, seeing as the creature likely came from up under the floor. Though, if the seal is only for the barrier above them, it makes sense.
Emi quickly lept down, allowing her body to be vertical with the wall, she was in a hurry and couldn’t waste time with slow movements. Of course, the rather large… whatever you call it… had noticed Emi launch down and turned his attention towards her. A sweeping claw around as she was beginning to make her landing, catching her right leg. As blood poured out – Emi let out a scream… it was clear that she was hurt badly. She had been hit with so much force though, that her body had actually been sent toward the seal.
”M.. move.. I..It’s just.. feet… away. They.. need.. y…” She could barely even finish her thoughts but somehow… she would slide her forearms forward.. crawling towards the seal. Her eyes were getting hazy and she knew, she was getting ready to pass out from the blood loss and the sheer pain she was in. As she slid her arms forward once more, she could feel some sort of paper… though she wasn’t sure if it was the seal or not. Emi had no choice, she had to take a chance as her time was really running out.
”My ninja way… i..is to be able to protect the people I love and hold dear…” Her voice faded on the last little bit. The barrier broke and the ceiling opened up – allowing Rem and Isemori a chance to escape. She only hoped….. her breath faded as her golden eyes lost that determined look. Emi had sacrificed herself as to keep the mission alive, it was up to Ise and Rem to complete it now.
”GET OUUUUUT….” The young genin seemed to have her voice back and was staring up, looking at her ceiling and yelling to someone… but who? She could see their faces but couldn’t remember their names. ”Was it all a dream? It was so…. real.”
As Emi laid herself back down, she closed her eyes to try and find some peace… ”NOPE. Can’t do it, I’m up. Just have to find something to do.”

Re: A Sacrifice worth making?

Ise had continued to not dare look down at the monstrosity that was chasing the three of them. What’s more was that, despite trying his absolute best to survive, he couldn’t help but continue to think about Yuuma. Sure, he had only just met the guy, but he was a shinobi of Hoshigakure, just like how Ise, Rem, and Emi were. To him, it didn’t matter if they had just met. It made it sting more for Ise, knowing that he was more than likely dead. “This guy … our captor. He had been watching us this entire time, too. Why else would talk through the intercom as if he could hear me as well as see what was happening?” The young Uchiha thought to himself, grimacing at the thought of this guy having some twisted sense of enjoyment out of their own suffering. Ise had noticed that Rem had made it to her seal, deactivating it. Ise smiled, however, his smile had then shifted to worry when he saw Rem still below them; the monster catching up. There was also something else that the young silver-haired Uchiha noticed as well. There were only two seals at the exit. Ise had tried to locate it, however, even with his sharingan, there was no trace of a third seal … unless… that was when the realization of that seal for Emi was located at the very bottom of where the monster had come from.
That was when Isemori saw Emi make a dive downward towards the seal, with the monster right there. “Emi, NO!” Ise had shouted, seeing that the monster had gotten her with its sharp claws, with blood pouring out of the wound as she had plummeted downward towards the seal. Ise couldn’t help but look down, the monster now receding towards Emi rather than focusing on them. Then, out of nowhere, Ise looked up, hearing what sounded like glass shattering above them. However, it wasn’t glass. It was chakra. The barrier had been broken, allowing Isemori and Rem to leave. With a balled-up fist, punched the wall, angry at the fact there was absolutely nothing that he could have done to save Emi as well as Yuuma. It made him feel worthless. Weak. It was a feeling that Ise hated with a burning passion. However, if it wasn’t for them, they’d more than likely all be dead. Ise had quickly hopped out of the hole, expelling the chakra he had been sending to his heels, now being on normal ground once again. He then quickly turned to help … someone, but just as soon as he turned, he fell out of his bed, falling flat on his face pretty hard. “Ow! Wait …. What?” Ise said, turning around to his bedroom; Itsuki turned over on his own bed, facing away from him.
“Was I … dreaming? I couldn’t have been … could I?” Ise said aloud, placing a hand under his chin while trying to think of what the hell he had just experienced. After he continued to mutter loudly once again to himself, a pillow had then suddenly collided with the side of his face, making him look at his very seemingly angry older brother. “Can you please, shut the HELL UP AND GO BACK TO SLEEP!?” Itsuki had then shouted back at him, once again, laying down back in his original position, not caring about the pillow that he had just thrown at Ise. Ise blinked, once again in pain from having the pillow being thrown hard at him. Ise shrugged, hopping back in his bed, quickly falling asleep, despite the nightmare, or whatever the hell it was. Ise still however, couldn’t help but think it still happened.

During the time Rem was fighting her way to the seal, everything started to seem as if it was going down hill. From the looks of it, Ise was able to break his seal unharmed, similar to her. She was confused by the fact that there were only two seals that were placed upon the ceiling. In which was broken by both her and Ise. There were still two other participants, or so Rem thought.
Her eyes wildly searched around, still clinging to the wall with her chakra coated limbs. Hoping to find either Yuuma or Emi. Her search was merely a success, but not a happy one. She found Emi’s location, just in time to see her drop to the center of the floor. The monster advanced onto her. Flinging the girl towards the third seal at the center of the floor, but in a way that formed a lump within Rem’s throat. The sight of splattered crimson turned the Uchiha’s eyes cold in expression. Although Rem wasn’t a very expressive person around unfamiliar people, these people still became her comrades, even if for a small period of time. And the gruesome sight of one of them being torn apart and thrown around, sent a hot wave of boodlust through her small being.
She could feel her teeth sinking sharply into the bottom of her lip in anger. Not only that. . she wasn’t able to find Yuuma, or the fourth seal in sight. Giving the chance that he didn’t make it.
At that moment, her composure evaporated as she felt the surge of wanting to tear into the monster below, knowing that doing so would easily result in her death. “What’s the use, my lion is most likely disappointed by my weakness.” But the shatter of the seal below, stole her attention. Emi was still able to break her seal.
Reminisce felt her feet break free from the wall. Her heart suddenly leaped as the sensation of free falling took over. Closing her eyes tightly, welcoming the darkness, as she embraced herself for the unknown.
-
Her eyes jerked open, her hands clenched tightly with fistfulls of blanket. Panting lightly as if the kunoichi just finished a good run. Familiar walls surrounded her, and the scent of her home helped calm the fast beating of her heart. Killing the anxiety from within. She was in her room, safe and sound. It was only a dream. . . a terrible dream. Rem resituated herself within the covers, feeling a wave of relief as she told herself that none of it was real. {Exit}

Her eyes jerked open, her hands clenched tightly with fistfulls of blanket. Panting lightly as if the kunoichi just finished a good run. Familiar walls surrounded her, and the scent of her home helped calm the fast beating of her heart. Killing the anxiety from within. She was in her room, safe and sound. It was only a dream. . . a terrible dream. Rem resituated herself within the covers, feeling a wave of relief as she told herself that none of it was real. {Exit}
