Rice to Meet You Again! [IO]
Mon Jan 03, 2022 2:34 pm
It was a silent day, even by Tanbo’s standards. The festival was right around the corner, and the villagers must have tired themselves preparing for it all week. The streets were emptier than usual, but all the shops were still open, their owners waiting for customers that have been ravaging their supplies the whole holiday season. There were a lot of customs around the ending of the year, and Tanbo being a place with open borders meant so many of those customs were brought into this little town from all over the world. Yamato was not born here himself, having moved here only recently, in the grand scheme of things.
Yamato was sitting in front of the mission board, staring at all of the wonderfully whimsical and fun missions he could have gone on. Unfortunately, he was not free to choose his own missions today. He had a task assigned to him without his knowledge. An escort mission, of all things. He was tasked with showing someone around the town. He did not know yet who he was supposed to be guiding around the village, but he assumed it was a tourist who must have been here for the festival that was right around the corner. The Sake Saturnalia. The 100th one.
There seemed to be more people around than ever, and Yamato chalked that up to the tradition’s big milestone. However, it was not hard to see Tanbogakure was growing in size even without the spike caused by the event. Yamato was happy his pride, this little town lying over miles of fields, was getting the attention he felt it deserved. It was a beautiful place, and it could be a home for so many more if Yamato and his coworkers just worked harder. That’s what kept the Yamanaka up at night. That he wasn’t doing enough. That feeling was now being amplified by having been put on what he considered to be a simplistic and unimportant mission. Whether he was going to turn out to be justified in his feelings remained to be seen.

Have you ever had one of those nights where all you did was drink and……..well the rest of it can get a little fuzzy but you know what kind of night I’m talking about. That ladies and gentleman was the kind of night Asahi Yagami had just finished with. Finish of course being a loose term, as the hair of the dog was still thick and luxurious and had yet to tip into the dark side of fun known as a hangover. The festival was fast approaching, and good fortunes had led to a night over over indulgence. Sampling many types of the sake that would be presented within the village Asahi found himself stumbling through the street only slightly. He felt he was moving swiftly and with great dignity, though he’d been wrong before.
Spotting a familiar face, he raised his arm giving a shout. “Oi! Yamamamato!” He’d say slightly slurring his best detective friends name. He’d make his way over before utilizing the mission board as a leaning post. “What’s a place like you doing in a ninja like this?” He’d ask smiling his normal warm smile. His hair was hung loose and messy from the fun night, though not unattractively so. He wore a yellow floral kimono with black pants and wooden clogs. Blinking more than usual he was able to straighten up, pulling himself out of the clutches of drunk ness slightly so as to hear his friends words.
He wasn’t sure what his friend was doing here, but seeing as the mission board was close, he hoped it was something exciting. Sober Asahi rarely relished risk and intrigue, but in his current state he was feeling the need for a little thrill, and seeing the girls had gone home for the morning he’d have to find what he could.

Re: Rice to Meet You Again! [IO]

The morning was rather calm despite the excitement of the festival brewing within the residents of Tanbo, even the snowy haired kunoichi couldn’t help but feel her heart flutter at the thought of a festival in her new home, even if it might only be a temporary residence. She still needed to have another meeting with Yasahiro to decide what to do about her status as a shinobi, but in the meantime he had helped arrange for her to get a tour of the village. He had told her she didn’t know enough about himself to say he had a heart of gold, but all of his actions pointed towards that being true. He worried about her even after finding out about her past, a feat that she could tell not many kage would’ve done. Xyxer was the first to come to mind in that regard, as he would’ve killed her on the spot without hesitation the moment he felt her loyalties falter.
However, Tanbogakure was different in many aspects from the other two villages she used to live in. Here she didn’t have to fear for her life as she walked down the cobbled path to the agreed meeting spot, her wolven companion at her side as usual. She didn’t have to worry about Yasahiro suddenly turning on her, nor did she worry about an imminent war brewing between the villages. It was quiet and peaceful, blissfully hidden away from the rest of the world. The only remnants to remind her of the past were the ones she clung to or could not remove, such as the large tattoo on her back or the way she continuously chose to wear black clothing as a way to finally mourn for her brother. The attire she wore did not scream mourning clothes, as the black dress she currently had on clung to her torso with slits up to the mid-thigh on both sides. She didn’t want to make it too obvious what the intent behind her outfits were in order to avoid having to answer any questions about it. It still pained her to talk about Salzem, even though his murder had been years ago.
As the mission board came into view the snowy haired woman and her wolf friend noticed two familiar blonde beings conversing about. She seemed to be running into Yamato quite frequently lately, almost as if fate kept bringing them together for a reason. Hikari didn’t have time to ponder what the universe had in store for the two shinobi as she made her way to the duo, giving them a friendly wave as she smiled at them. Although she was happy that some acquaintances would be escorting her through the village, she knew they probably would have quite a few questions for her. After all, they probably assumed she was from the village this entire time.
“Why hello, Yamato and Asahi.” Hikari and Kuro greeted them with a small bow, her voice soft as she continued, “Are both of you my tour guides for the day?” Her snowy tresses danced in the air as a gentle breeze blew by, and at the same time she caught a hint of alcohol wafting from Asahi. It was clear he had been drinking the night prior, although considering the time of day it was surprising to see him already up and about after a night of partying. She hardly knew much about the man besides his name, their first meeting at a bar was a little hazy for the light weight.

It really was a small town wasn’t it? It seemed it was impossible to avoid Asahi’s lovely presence. Yamato smiled. He wasn’t complaining. "Asahi. You seem… Are you drunk? It’s early morning. Anyway, I don’t judge. I’m here on a mission, since I assume that was the question you were asking.". Shortly after the person Yamato had been waiting for revealed themselves. "Hikari! What are the odds? I am here to be your tour guide, Asahi appears to be… A surprise addition, if you don’t mind his presence. You were from Konoha if I remember correctly, right? Are you here for the festival?".
Yamato had a notebook in his hand with detailed plans for his tour. "Let me know when you’re ready to go and we can be on our way. Also feel free to mention if there’s any place you’d like to visit first. Otherwise, I do have a route in mind.". He turned to Asahi, "You want to join us, friend? Surely Hikari could use your knowledge of the village’s history and inner workings. That is, if you’re sober enough.".
Yamato started leading the group in a direction depending on the answer he got from them. "Say, Hikari, you mentioned you were specializing in medical ninjutsu, right? I could actually use your expertise in a project I’m working on. I myself am fuuinjutsu user, and I’ve come across a special technique in my studies that seems extremely useful. A few people I’ve mentioned it to are interested. The only worry I have is that it’s a complicated process and I’d be much more comfortable working on it with the help of an experienced medic, just in case of complications - which shouldn’t happen unless something happens that’s out of my control.".
Unless Hikari had mentioned a certain place she wanted to see first, they would arrive in front of a little shop that displayed a multitude of weapons and tools. "This is Mai Gato’s Ninja Shop. I’m sure you’ve seen some before in any major village, but I assure you that you’ve never seen one that looks as good as this one. We can take a break here to look around the shop, if you want. If you’d rather not, we can move along with the tour. Let me know what you prefer.".

Grabbing Yamato's shoulders Asahi would look him deeply in the eye upon being questioned if he was drunk. "My dearest fr-friend......I've never lied to you,,,,,,,,,,and.....I won't start now." He would take a long pause not breaking eye contact. "Absolutely......I got into the festival sampling........it's gonna be a great party." He would then burst into a fit of giggles. Though it hadn't been particularly funny, at this moment most things had some amount of humor about them. Before he could go into any more details of his exciting night that involved not only sake but a ghost, a dustbin, and a traveling juggler a new arrival joined. Turning he would recognize Hikari, all thoughts of what would have been a grand story removed from his mind. Shuffling over, he would greet the kunoichi with a hug, "It is so nice to see you again!" He would say cheerfully.
With extreme focus he picked up on the fact that he had somehow interrupted their meeting but was quickly invited along. "Me? Too drunk to travel and talk? May such a day never." He would make a slashing gesture through the air, "ever come!" He would continue to smile, his theatrics enhanced with the alcohol still in his system. He would follow the group, though not very engaged in the conversation. He heard fragments of it, but most of his focus was on that of the people. As they walked, he would call out to folks walking down the street, he'd shake hands chit chat, get lost, and then somehow always find his way back to reform the trio. This went on for some time, until he returned to the group in front of the ninja supply shop. Smoking from a kiseru that was not his he'd look at the store. It was a fine store, one of the best in the village. His own blade had come from it, and if fortune continued, he was sure it would not be his last purchase.
The smoke that wafted from his pipe had a strange burnt orange coloring. The smell of it so strong, it was questionable how one could actually enjoy it. Still, it had had a mild effect of sobering Asahi's mind. "What was that about experiments?" He would say asking Yamato. "I'd be more than happy to get involved; you've provided me with assistance before after all." He was of course referencing their first meeting at the cemetery. Feeling that he should add at least a sprinkling of usefulness to the actual mission at hand he would add, "You know there is a lovely tailor shop two streets over, they make the most fabulous kimonos. They have a wonderful violet that would go so well with your hair." he would say professionally while taking a puff on the pipe. If Hikari was nearby, his hand would even run through a strand of hair as he spoke, his eyes set to that of a craftsman rather than anything lascivious.

Re: Rice to Meet You Again! [IO]

“I do not mind, the more the merrier! It will be fun having two tour guides! Yes I am from Konoha, and I’m hoping to stay for longer than just for the festival.” Her voice was soft as she replied to Yamato, leaving a few small details out but overall telling him the truth. She was born in Konoha so although she spent some time as a Kiri nin, it wasn’t a lie that she was from the leaf village and she did hope to stay for a very long time in the village, just with a few extra hoops to get through first.
Within moments of her reply, the other blonde man came up to her and wrapped his arms around her, embracing the small woman in a hug. Hikari was a little surprised by the sudden gesture, having not expected Asashi to be the hug-giver type. She returned the hug with a smile as she said, “It is very nice to see you again too, Asahi! I am very glad we get to spend the day together!”
Yamato, with his notebook in hand, was far more prepared than she had expected, having a set plan in mind for the tour and the important places to see in Tanbo. Having already seen the Hospital meant she didn’t have anywhere else she particularly wanted to visit, plus there were probably many places she didn’t even know existed in this village such as things having to do with the rice framing or sake production. “I’m ready to go whenever you are, and I do not have anywhere specific that I would like to see. I have faith that your route will show me everything I need to know.” She flashed him a warm smile as a way to show him she truly did have trust in his decisions and plan.
Then Asahi made it known he was drunk but not enough to say no to joining them, and she couldn’t help but chuckle at his theatrics. He was over the top in his explanation, something she should’ve expected from a still somewhat drunk person. After his performance they began their journey traversing through the village, the duo following the path Yamato had in mind although only one of them was faithfully listening to the guide- or so it seemed, as the blonde intermittently vanished from beside them to converse with the villagers.
“Sure, I would love to help you with your project! As long as you aren’t hurting people or animals, then I’ll gladly help you. What does the technique do that you are needing my help with?” Her eyes glistened with intrigue as she was genuinely curious about the wonders of fuuinjutsu. Having little to no experience with the fine art of seals meant the possibilities of what Yamato could be learning was endless. Although she had no clue why he would need the help of a medic, the only thing she could think of was doing transplants since she trusted her dear friend Yamato to not be a killer so the thought of having to revive anyone did not even cross her mind.
Before long they arrived at the first stop of the tour: a quaint little weapons building by the name of Mai Gato’s Ninja Shop. Yamato gave her a few options on what they could do, but with how her two guides seemed to respect the store, she couldn’t pass up on a chance to see what they had to offer. Perhaps she would find something useful hidden behind the doors of the ninja store. “With how much you’ve praised this place, it would be wrong of me to not peruse their wares. I would like to take a look around for a little bit.”
A strong smell wafted over to the duo as their third companion arrived, orange smoke drifting from the pipe between his lips. One didn’t have to think hard about where the strong smell was coming from as the pipe was a dead giveaway. Smoking had never been her thing, the appeal of it never made sense to the young Hyuuga, but having to bear witness to whatever Asahi was smoking, Hikari couldn’t understand how anyone could tolerate such a thing. Luckily the words he said were able to draw her focus away from the pipe, as she listened to what he had to say instead of immediately entering the shop. It seemed he had heard bits and pieces of what Yamato had said about the fuuinjutsu and how he had required some assistance, as the businessman offered his services to the scientist.
Then the formerly drunk man’s attention turned to the mission at hand, giving her a tidbit of knowledge that may or may not have been on the other blonde’s list of places. “I would love to go see them! With the festival coming up I am actually in need of some more lovely kimonos.” Her cheeks flushed a slight rosy color as he ran a hand through a strand of her snowy hair, unaccustomed to such familiar actions even if there was nothing more behind them. “If you gentlemen would please excuse me, I am going to take a moment to look inside Mai Gato’s shop. Of course if you need anything feel free to join me inside.”
With that she left to go inside and see what items were on display in Tanbogakure. It had been quite some time since she had browsed the wares of a ninja shop, having no need for such items when she was in Kiri many months ago. She couldn’t even recall the last time she ventured into a ninja shop for supplies now that she actually tried to think about it.
If no one joined her inside then Hikari would spend a couple minutes looking through the weapons and armor displayed before settling on getting a lightweight bodysuit, colored contacts, and a new tanto. She thought the contacts might be a good idea to start wearing in order to hide the identity of her Byakugan, especially if she was forced to leave the village and the safety it’s walls gave her. Then she would perform the rat and dog handseals in order to put the items in her storage dimension using the storage displacement jutsu, making it super easy to purchase items and not have to worry about carrying around anything heavy as well as use it to keep her ryo safe whenever she wasn’t using it. After safely putting away the items she would return to her tour guides outside, ready to tackle the next place on their agenda.
If someone joined her inside then she would make small talk with them while purchasing the items mentioned above and going through the process of storing the items in the same manner.
(AP: 610 -10 Storage Displacement = 600)

Hikari seemed interested in helping out with his research, which made Yamato glade. "I’m trying to use sealing technology to open up the chakra system to absorb nature chakra for empowerment. It’s pretty theoretical at this point. I wish I had all the knowledge necessary, but the idea isn’t covered entirely by my field. I need help by someone who has expertise in anatomy, and medical techniques overall. I need to target the most optimal points in someone’s chakra system to ensure perfection and safety, and unfortunately, I have neither the knowledge nor the ability to see it. How does your Byakugan work exactly, they might prove useful on top of your medical knowledge and prowess. Anyway, I’ll send you a copy of all of my research so you can read over and share your own ideas.". With that, Yamato wished to focus solely on the tour he was tasked with giving.
Yamato’s face brightened with an enthusiastic smile. "Sh- Sho- SHOPPING TIME? YES!". He clapped his hands together with excitement, then ran into the shop after Hikari. He had mostly used this shop to fulfill his shinobi needs: weapons, items, etc. He had never truly shopped here for clothing. As Hikari dove into some sections of the store, so did Yamato. Only a few minutes later, he had grabbed enough clothes to hide his face when he carried them in front of his chest. He moved this small mountain into the changing rooms in the back. A short while later, he came out with one set of clothing. It was more feminine than usual for him, but it matched his style and choice of color. It had layers of cloth, blue and white. "How does it look? What do you think?". He walked around, posed and checked himself on the mirrors around him as he asked his peers those questions.
- Yamato's Attire:
He also checked out what Asahi and Hikari were buying. "Mostly ninja stuff?" he asked Hikari, seeing her cart at the cash register. "The suit suits you… A bit too tight for my taste.". He spun around and watched the dress-like end of his attire wrap up around him for a second before dancing back to their original position. "Everybody needs some layers. You know… For protection mostly, of course...". Once everybody was done, Yamato spoke again. "So… Asahi, why don’t you choose where we go next?". Asahi looked radiant despite his intoxication. He seemed just so full of life.

Before he knew it his two friends had rushed inside the shop. He was more than familiar with the shop owner. Mai Gato did not allow smoking, and at this moment the powerful tobacco outweighed his desire to shop. Due to this unfortunate fact, he moved away from the shop door to a nearby bench. Sitting down, he took several light puffs before blowing an orange ring towards the heavens. The pungent odor had drawn more than one sour look, but he managed to ignore them somehow. Instead he closed his eyes, and calmed his mind. Controlling his breathing, he could feel his mind clear just a bit. The nativity to totally concentrate on one’s breathing was a rarer feat than most gave it credit for. He’d have to fight the alcohol in his system when he stopped, but for a moment the world became so clear within his mind scape.
Time passed, and before he knew it his companions had returned. Letting out a deep breath, he’d smile as his eyes opened. “Now that is an outfit!” He’d say joyously at Yamato’s selection. “You may have to let me borrow it sometime.” He’d give the man a wink before hoisting himself back to his feet. Turning the pipe upside down he’d empty the contents onto the ground, the orange ashes quickly being moved away. He’d slip the pipe away, and ponder where to go next. “Well, I know I mentioned the kimono shop, but….” He’d tap his chin as if pondering something of great importance. “I’ve been meaning to go to the Barn of Pottery. The old lady (Yamato would know this to be the owner of the tea shop, as that’s what Asahi calls her) wants me to grab some new tea sets. And I’ve heard they have some new imports from the land of hot springs for sake sets.” He’d clap his hands together with excitement. If there was one thing he loved, it was shopping for new dishes.
The samurai tenants demanded a well rounded existence. Combat and the sword are important, but that cannot be the only focus of a true samurai. Traditionally the three options for daily ritual are calligraphy, gardening, or poetry. For Asahi he practiced all three, but had added the tea ceremonies as a fourth. Another way to round out his existence that went hand in hand with his own spiritual beliefs in living life through experiences. If the two agreed he would lead them to a small store. The inside decorated with a multitude of household goods, the most prominent being dishes, cups, and plates. Dazzling patterns, and wares from the countries that Tanbogakure did its trade with. Some porcelain and some clay, each as wonderful as the last.
“What do you think of this?” He’d ask holding a tea set up. It was made of ivory, brown branches decorated with pink Sakura blossoms painted throughout the cups and kettle. The tray including another tree with the image of a white kitsune resting beneath the branches. “It’s so nice I’m tempted to purchase it for myself.”

As he held up the tea ware, a most unfortunate thing occurred. A worker from the very establishment that he was purchasing for appeared. "ummmm......Asahi.......I hate to tell you this but............the shipment isn't here and we have that dinner this evening..." the worker stated stammering all the way. Facepalming himself Asahi sighed. If it wasn't one thing it was another.
"Yes, yes very well. I'll take care of it....even if it is m day off." Asahi would quip quickly back. "Sorry Yamato...Hikari..." He would give a little bow. "But duty calls. I do hope we can finish such a fine excursion at a later date. With that he would be off, leaving his companions for what would likely be a most annoying extra shift. The old bag had better pay extra.
