A Glass over Battlethirst

Nanaki, the rather large predatory bird with black feathers that had a feral, yet beautiful tint of crimson within the light of the sun, had been set with the task to deliver a message to one of Meika's fellow acquaintances.

She had written on a delicate piece of parchment, hopefully it was enough to convince the male shinobi to meet her.

The meeting place was at one of Kumogakure's favorite bars, but since it was early within the day the bar was quite dead. There was no traffic through the doors and only a few was grouped up at the far corner.

Maybe the bar was too nonchalant for the discussion that she had planned out for the lad, but Meika didn't like to always carry things out in an ordinary fashion. She sat at a table that a few feet from the front of the empty bar counter, the bartender was in the back tending to some dishes and not minding the quiet atmosphere.

The only sound was the clacking of a glass as it landed back onto the table, where as Meika had taken a drink of some harsh bourbon. The liquor lit a fire down her throat. Something the lass hadn't felt in quite a while.

She grinned at the glass as her eyes danced with a mysterious glint in them. Was this some sort of eagerness for the discussion she intended to bring up? The subject had left her feeling off in the past but the lass couldn't help but feel ready to join in on another adventure. She wanted to experience more. And the alcohol was riding in her confidence a little too high.

Receiving a letter from his dear friend, and fellow spiritualist, Meika Kamigawa, one of the two remaining Shimada members, the older brother, found his way to the Drunken Kage bar. A popular meetup spot for most amongst the members of the village. Many found solace here. Whether it was drinking worries away, to just having a good time, to meetings such as the one that was set up. The brief message that she wrote also conveyed a simple tone for what they’d talk about. She’d been wanting a few seals placed upon her.

It was typically a common thing nowadays being one of the few sealing specialists residing in Kumo. Not too long ago, Hiroki had placed his personalized Curse Mark upon Baruga, the daimyo’s daughter. Prior to that, some on Nobo for before they went on a hunt for Elias Uchiha; the fight that earned him his new Sharingan.

Actually entering into the tavern, his eyes would immediately scan the room and see the raven haired lass sitting all by herself at the bar. Meandering over to her, taking the seat on her left, he’d tell the bartender ”I’ll have one of what she’s having.”

The attention of the man now propped upright on the barstool shifted over to the one sitting next to him. ”Right, so I got your leader. You needed some seals? Easy enough, just need to know what kind and if there’s anything else you’ll be needing then?” And a hot minute after asking, his drink would arrive, promptly allowing him to take a sip of the liquor therein.

Hiroki didn't keep her waiting long as he made his way over to where she was seated, he didn't hesitate to order himself a drink as well. Her finger delicately traced the rim of her glass as Meika brought one of her legs crossed over the other, shifting her position into a more comfortable one.

Meika waited until her fellow friend's drink arrived to the table before she continued with her request. At first she wasn't too certain if he would mind being bombarded for favors. But it didn't hurt to ask.

"Well let's see. I was going to propose an idea of us teaming together on a more dangerous mission. So anything that would help protect me against an attack would be much appreciate, if you have such a thing." She paused to take a drink from her glass. The smell of whiskey lingered around them. "And if you are interested in the mission. We may need to find a way to keep us from getting one another involved in our own techniques. It would be nasty if you had to get caught up in my genjutsu. Holding back on our abilities would be a big disadvantage."

Her eyes looked up at him as the glass danced within her fingers. "What are your thoughts on that so far?"

Taking a sip from the glass that was now sitting upon the bar top, he’d nod at what was all being asked. Looking deep within the Kamigawa’s eyes, the Dragon Slayer knew that there was a determination behind them tinted with a side of caution. A very wise choice, especially considering since the two were working their ways up in gaining personal power as well as power granted by higher village rankings, their missions would become more and more painstaking. So when she suggested a team up, it was very reminiscent of right before setting out on a hunt with Lord Noboru. Assuming this was a similar situation, Meika’s question would be answered with a nod.

”That all sounds very doable. As someone who doesn’t specialize in sealing practices, there is a limit to the amount you could have placed upon you, so to save at least one spot, I’ll give you a Spellbinding Seal. It acts as a means to absorb an incoming jutsu, and you can essentially hold it within the seal for what would be the remainder of the technique you absorbed. As for your genjutsu, I can place a Unity Seal on the both of us which will essentially act as a means to prevent one another from getting caught in the other’s attacks; but it should also be said in that same beat, this only works for your techs that wouldn’t hit yourself. Lastly, I can link you up to my telepathy seal to give us communications without our enemy even being aware of it. I just need to know, where would you like them placed? And also, I will be entering Sage Mode to ensure the seals are given the highest power at which they could achieve.”

After going through the spiel, Hiroki would do just exactly as he said. First entering Sage Mode, he’d then proceed to place the seals that he mentioned on both the kunoichi and himself, with the sole exception being the Spellbinding Seal; that one specifically was reserved solely for the vixen. He’d place them wherever she had stated she wanted them by going through any and all of the handseals needed to cast them all.

Finishing his drink with one final gulp, after it had all been squared away, blue eyes would connect with the same. ”Will that be all for now then?”

Meika received Hiroki's nod of approval and listened to his response. Evaluating the words that spoke from his lips as the taste of whiskey lingered against her own. He went into details about each seal that went through his mind for the situation she spoke about. Her fingers intertwined together after Meika rested her elbows onto the table surface, her chin rested against the bridge that her hands formed.

"The sage mode idea is a clever one, Hiroki~" Meika admitted, while turning in her seat. Shifting the back of her shoulder as she pulled down the collar of her shirt. Just enough to expose the back of her shoulder for easy access. "I think those seals could be just enough. I don't want to be too stingy and already appreciate how much those alone will be doing on their own." Her eyes wandered over to the bar as she felt the shift of Hiroki's chakra. His ascension to sage mode easily heightened his abilities to extraordinary levels. "You can just place them one below from another along here."

If or after Hirko places the seals, Meika will release her collar and readjust within her seat. "I believe that will be it for now. Unless there is anything going through your thoughts? After this I can have Nanaki send you a parchemt that contains some of the current troubles that we can look into."

”Why thank you, you’re too kind, as always. It’s a handy little trick to help get by that I’ve learned to pick up. And by all means, if you had wanted more seals, I’d easily give some too you.” Hiroki would smile passively while making the remark in response to what Meika spoke on. Another thing in which the Chunin had learned to pick up, but was left unsaid was also the fact that it was better to be safe than sorry. One could never go into a fight overprepared for it, but oftentimes than not too many shinobi and kunoichi alike falter at being underprepared. This wasn’t said though, because the lad didn’t want it to dissuade the lass. If she felt that was all she’d be needing, then that was fine by him. There was a confidence there, seeing as how the two had gotten promoted together, that she could easily handle her own when it comes down to the nitty gritty bits of being a ninja.

”None of importance in regards to this.” He’d say, keeping the soft spoken grin. With a calming, yet confident tone to his voice, young Roki would then pick up where he left off, adding to his response ”Sounds like a plan to me then. It was a pleasure seeing you, as always.” Standing up, the man would give a small bow to his comrade before heading out the door, and back to the day to day grind.
