Madara had been dreamt of being a thief for quite some time and had encountered plenty of locks that she could not pick. One of the kinds of locks she sometimes encountered seemed to have no opening mechanism at all, at least on the outside of the door. Doors that were designed to only be opened from one direction were so very annoying and one did not have to be wealthy to be able to afford the upgrade. If your home had a door in the rear it was a relatively cheap mechanism to have installed and then one would not have to worry so much about intruders.
Madara usually fantasized on burglarizing homes that had doors that could only be opened from the inside. She always thought, “why should I bother, when the house next door probably has a simple lock.” However she had grown bored in the autumn season and had thought a lot about how to actually get into such a home. Of course, a lock on a door could only go so far if someone were to, say, break through a glass window or kick the door down… but Madara was nowhere near competent when it came to using force or scaling the side of a home. No, she wanted to be able to get in through the door which meant she had to go through it somehow. But how?
“Oh how convenient it would be if I were some sort of powerhouse who could just blast the door open or pop into a home at the snap of my fingers,” she said to herself as she sat in her home and examined the various thieving tools she had laid out onto the table before her. She fiddled with some new tools she had purchased, one of them she’d seen a woman used to carve a hole in a block of wood during her last trip to the market. She’d imagined that it might be able to go through a door. She hadn’t the feintest clue how to properly use it though. She searched her memory and remembered seeing the tool being spun.

Madara paused for a moment and realized she hadn’t bought any pieces of wood to practice on. In fact, the only thing she probably could try the drill on was one of her own doors or the very table she sat at. She ought to have gone to buy something but she was impatient and also ticked off about her earlier thoughts about other kinds of shinobi. She thought that they must have it easy in life since they didn’t have to worry about having to figure out a drill in order to break into a home. She put the drill right onto her table and tried spinning it which did fuck all because she didn’t put enough downward pressure to drive the sharp bits into the wood. All it did was leave an unsightly mark on her table.
“To the market then, again,” she thought when she realized that she was never going to be able to get rid of that mark.
As she walked to the market Madara couldn’t help but think about other shinobi again. She knew practically nothing about how advanced ninjutsu worked but she had heard stories of the kinds of things they were capable of. Most of them had been blown out of proportion though, which was mostly the reason why she was having these thoughts to begin with. She thought that any ninjutsu user could perform any kind of element and wished she had the chance to become good at it some day, though truth be told she would likely change her tune if she learned the truth about how much sacrifice it took, in addition to the extreme risk of death.
