A day of Supplying
Tue Mar 14, 2023 4:13 pm
Cole had been sitting in the crows nest for quite some time now. He had gathered up several bottles by this point, and decided that it was time to get out and stretch his legs for a little while and see what he could get into on the stop they would be making soon. After all he would need to restock his stash of Rum in the crows nest before they took off, if ever wanted to make it the rest of the way to the land of Iron.
Once the ship was docked someone paid the fare to dock for the day while they went shopping for supplies. Cole walked by the dock manager's desk and while the man was talking to someone down the dock about his fees, Cole simply pocketed the man's purse he left sitting out into his sleeve before sliding it into his pocket while walking by. With a slight sway to his movements that could be blamed on the fact he had been on a ship for the past couple weeks. If it wasn’t for the half empty bottle in his hand. Walking off the dock he was met by a few people trying to sell him things. To which he simply ignored and walked right by, with mentioning of some guy betting money that he could beat anyone in an marksman test. It sounded like easy money for Cole so he made his way over to that side of the town. Where a crowd had gathered watching the man throw kunai, shuriken, and shoot a bow at some targets. Before turning and addressing the town, betting his purse to any that could beat him.
Tripping over someone's feet as he stepped out of the crowd Cole stood up, as everyone saw him trip over his own feet. “I’ll take” he would mummer out before finishing “that challenge” he would tell the man while bending over to pick up his bottle, and laying the purse he stole from the dock manager on the table. The man simply looked at him like it was an easy mark before agreeing. Cole would hold up a Kunai before dropping it, and bending over to pick up the kunai the man put two into the target telling Cole to beat that and he wins. Standing up straight Cole pulled three kunai out of his back pocket and threw them, nailing all three in between the two the man landed, while picking his bottle and kunai back up. “I win” he would tell the man while grabbing the two purses and giving him a crooked smile. While tripping over people as he made his way back through the crowd. Who was shocked to have seen what appeared to be a drunk show off some skill.
Once he was out of the crowd Cole started to walk in a random direction. He had several hours to kill before the ship would head out again, and he was still looking for somewhere to get some more rum, so he headed further into the little village. Upon entering into the deeper parts of the village Cole discovered that instead of going towards the village center he had found himself on the dark side of town. Looking around he just knew that this was a place to find some rum. Walking into the first Tavern he ran into. It was filled with all kinds of shady looking people, and Cole looked completely out of place, with his mostly white with some dark blue and black outfit, and a pearl white Katana on his side. He walked up and sat at the bar, having ditched his bottle of rum some time along the walk after he emptied it. “Rum Bottle” he would tell the bar keep who would bring the bottle and a glass to which Cole would simply take the bottle and lay a purse down, “give me ten more” he would tell the chubby man. Who would run to the back with a yes sir, this had gotten several looks from people around the shady establishment.
A couple people were sitting in a corner playing some poker, and it looked like he had walked in on some kind of tournament. There was a sign saying the grand prize was 10,000 ryo. Cole would use that money, after all he needed it to buy more drinks, and if he could get his hands on that full amount of prize money he could possibly have enough to buy the crew a drink, but probably wouldn’t have the money left over. He did think about it though, and as they say it's the thought that counts. Cole made his way to the sign that said 10,000 ryo prize money and walked around the area, looking at several of the games being played. Each trip around the table he would palm a stack of ryo sliding it into his pocket. However, to his much dismay the barkeep returned far too soon, after he had only made a few rounds back and forth to the table. With a sigh he walked up to the barkeep leaving the purse he had taken from the dock manager on the bar, keeping the change he said as he grabbed his crate and headed out of the tavern.
Walking around town Cole quickly realized he had no idea where he was at, and wouldn’t dare ask any of these people how to get back to the dock. After all that would risk his precious cargo he was caring, so instead he simply kept walking around the village. Stopping from time to time to take a drink from one of the bottles. When he found himself standing near a wedding ceremony. Quickie turning around thinking that he would not be fooled into such foolish actions again, he quickly made his way out of there. During his daring escape from the wedding ceremony he witnessed a wagon crash into a shopping stall. It was crazy as produce and wares went flying everywhere, Cole did his best to keep his crate away from anything that could cause it harm. Even jumping over one of the wagon wheels that drove directly towards him. Landing and double checking each of his bottles before standing back up holding the case.
Everyone seemed fine and till the driver went to climb back up out of the wreckage only to fall back down. With a broken ankle screaming in pain. Cole went to slide out of the scene before people started to ask questions as to why he was here and why he had ten bottles of Rum with him. When the man yelled for him, he only knew that he was yelling for him as he called him the White Samurai. Turning around Cole looked at the man laying down on top of what used to be a stall. “I am no” he managed to get out before the man interrupted him. Something that would normally annoy Cole but this time the man that interrupted him was holding out a bag of money.
“Traveling Samurai are men of honor, right” he would tell Cole holding the money out. Cole would simply give the man a nod saying yes. “Then take this money to the wedding down the street. It is the dowry for my daughter who is getting married today. If her husband does not have the money then his father will refuse to let them marry.” He told Cole as if that was supposed to convince him to give up free money. Cole simply took the man's money and slid it into his crate of Rum. “You are absolutely right” he would tell the man before turning and starting to walk back towards where he had almost ran into the wedding ceremony at. He could hear a sigh of relief as he walked away from the man. Cole, thinking it over that the man was far too trusting for this life, decided that he would teach the man a lesson, and once he was out of sight of the accident he turned down an alley and made his way as far as he could from that wedding.
Sitting down for a few moments deciding that he needed to take a break for a while. Cole thought about all that he had done so far, and decided that they would need to stop by this village again some time, as they had no idea how much money they were just laying around. He didn’t know if this town just didn’t have a very high crime rate or what, but they simply were way too trusting around here. Thinking that he was simply some kind of roaming samurai, because he was wearing white and had a sword, and just leaving money laying on a table for the taking, and to top it all off they just left the dock fees on the dock to be taken back. It was all too easy, and part of him wanted to find out just why it was so easy to get people’s money around here. However, that would require him to actually do work and investigate this village, and that just sounded too much like work for him to actually want to do.
Cole stood up with the sun starting to set he knew that he needed to get back to the ship or they might just leave him here, and while the idea of staying in a land full of easy to grab money sounded nice, he knew that it would change quickly if he stayed here for more than a few days. Walking down the street Cole was about to ask someone how to get the hell back to the docks when he noticed someone acting strange for the little village. They were keeping to the edge of the village, and trying to stay out of sight. If it wasn’t for the fact that Cole’s biggest job was to keep an eye out for things just like this on the ship he probably would have missed him. Deciding to walk over and see just what the guy was doing. Cole took another sip of his open bottle and headed in that direction. Once he had gotten closer he decided to stay out of sight as well and sneak up on the guy. After all he was mostly just wanting to know what he was doing being weird. After all, Cole had been stealing stuff all day and just walked around like he hadn’t done anything wrong. It was thievery one o one.
Once Cole had gotten closer he saw that the man was carrying some kind of package. Dropping down from on top of a nearby village Cole nearly startled the man so bad that he barely kept hold of the package. “You know sneaking around like this is only going to draw attention to you, if you just walked through town you have been wherever it is you're going all ready and no one would have cared.” He would tell the man as he popped the cork and took another long swig of his Rum. The man wasn’t sure what to say and just kind of stood there staring at Cole. Not knowing if he was trying to help the man or hinder him the man simply spoke up telling Cole that if he didn’t tell anyone he was here he would give him his purse of Ryo. Thinking it over Cole would agree to the man's terms and turn around and start to leave, a lot richer than he was when he arrived on this little village.
Once he had turned around Cole saw the ocean once more and didn’t know why he hadn’t thought about just heading in a straight line till he got out of the village and walking around it, but if had he would not have found all the money he now had, so hefting his case of rum Cole headed out back to the ship.
