Tending the Bulwark's Garden [MIssion]
Thu Oct 05, 2023 9:05 pm
- Mission Details:
- Mission Name: Garden the Gates
Rank: D
Mission Location: Hoshigakure - Village Gates
Challenges: -
Task: Hoshigakure's gates are lush with vibrant examples of Haven's desert flora - cacti, flowers, trees. Of course, such a collection of usually sparse plants needs careful tending to keep the gates looking so appealing. Tend to the plants (be sure not to overwater!), the soil, and help deal with any pests present. Watch out for the rattlesnakes.
Word Count Requirement: 1,000
Reward: 2,000 Ryo / 10 AP
Character Requirements: Hoshigakure shinobi
Character Exclusive: -
The white, limestone wall that served as the barrier and divide of Hoshigakure and the Land of Haven glowed under the rays of a generous sun. It stood as a bulwark, between grass and sand, and as a visible testament of strength and protection. The thick, carved, wooden doors wrought in the center of the wall shift with motion. Measured voices shout from the ramparts and are answered behind the walls. With a croaking groan, the gates of Hosgakure are opened, revealing the boisterous, village life that dwelled inside.
Walking out of the gate, dressed in his martial wear, was Monsoon Uchiha. He scanned the horizon, to take in the scenery. Truly, the seabreeze and temperate climate was a haven for all manners of plant life. Colors of spring sprouted between patches of vibrant green, which lined the well-walked path that lead one away from haven: to the many criss-crossing roads that served as the veins of the commerce world.
Turning away from the center path, Monsoon inspects the greenery. A wonderfully earthy aroma permeates the air as a seabreeze plays over the many leaves, branches, and stems. He scans the walls and is met with a tapestry of creeping plant. Desert flowers bloomed from thick, rope like vines which grew in the cracked, porous rock: looking like mortar between cyclopean stone. The greenery lining the path was comprised of various cacti, some with flowers, others with fruit, yet all had red thorns that bristled out from their photosynthetic forms. Between these hardy flora, wild flowers and weeds grew from wet ground: swaying in the wind and holding onto any nutrients left. Yet, there was more than plant life that lie within this sand-influenced garden.
Bright bees with glowing stingers flitted between flower and plant, covered entirely by thick, nectar laced pollen. Some bees, as if drunk on nectar, buzzed in odd directions and would find themselves trapped by webs made by brown and yellow spiders. While wrapping their catch in their home-spun silk, some spiders, being too absorbed in their task, would find themselves ambushed by a thorny lizard: whose hide reminded one of wind swept sand. Unfortunately, this motion would be caught by falcons who came from the coast; thus, the just fed lizard would feed a diving bird. And, it would be in this moment, that an awaiting snake, who had been hunting the lizard, would strike at the diving falcon: bringing it to earth and constricting it into a scaled tomb. Such was one aspect of the fauna that lived in the flora the surrounded the limestone bulwark.
The Uchiha rubbed the back of his head after making his assessment and scanning his surroundings, the task at hand would be time-consuming. He sighed and turned his head back toward the village, as if awaiting to see one of the passerby break through the crowd.
"I hope they got the message..."

Approaching from his rear Zraix would tap Monsoon on the shoulder as he had finally made it to the outside of their village. He had agreed to accompany his partner on a rather boring mission to tend to the flora of the Haven country- a task that was better suited for children still trying to find their skill in battle and learning the foundations of what it meant to be a shinobi. Still, it was a task that needed to be completed and the ronin had a need to speak with his counterpart regarding their search for the lost ruins that Zraix so desperately sought. "So this is where our riveting mission is to take place?" He would say with a stoic expression, "We belong to one of the most powerful nations in the world and we havent the staffing to get something like this done by non-shinobi?" It makes less than any sense to me." He would now look left and right to scan the environment taking note of the varying types of flora and greenery that were specific to their land- he had an admiration for nature but was in no mood to tend to it.
Taking note of a few snakes just east to them at a 15 meter distance Zraix would point in their direction before speaking, "Theres quite a few of those out this way so be careful. We wouldnt want any unfortunate injuries while we complete this high stakes mission" he would smirk to himself as he began watering a nearby grouping of lilacs, being sure not to over do it- his gaze shifting back over to his burly partner before he spoke. "Id be lying if I said I came here to water some plants and tend to a garden. We need to come up with a concrete way to locate and journey to Scala Ad Caelum. That is if it even exists" He would toss the watering pot to Monsoon before kneeling down to pluck a few weeds that had ensnared tulip. "Ive been reading through the text that my grandfather left behind and while he was quite the talented linguist, his writing is less that concise. If anything im more lost than I was before I began looking into his journals." with a heavy sigh he would continue "There's one part in particular that I cant seem to shake. In the text he says, 'Only one whos eyes view the shadow of reality and the body of infinity as one can reach the city where the two converge.' I keep racking my brain about what this could mean and im well aware that the person in question would need to have utilization of the Kenseigan but thats as far as I was able to get. Were gonna have to solve this riddle if we plan to get anywhere close to reaching our destination so what are your thoughts?"
He would await the reply of his partner as he continued to tend to the garden that lined the outskirts of their village, making sure to evenly water the flora and shoo away insects that were seeking to feast on the plants. He would steer clear of any of the rattlesnakes as he was warned in a debrief to do so and was able to visualize them clearly amongst the plants and other wildlife.

Monsoon would find great amusement at Zraix's cantankerous attitude. In tandem with the ronin, the martial artist would water the plants opposite of the Hoshimura, to ensure the entirety of the gate garden was watered, while also taking care to avoid the snakes that were pointed out.
Monsoon looked quizzically as Zraix continued on about this fabled land, a power and place that motivated him.
"A riddle? Your forebears seem to have a sense of humor..." said Monsoon as he re-racked the water pail. He turned once more to scan the garden and concluded their job complete.
