- Missions:
Rokku had been shocked and not a little apprehensive when he was politely but sternly informed by his mother that he had been chosen to join and take part in and A-rank mission as well as an S-rank mission. As far as he was concerned he was a little under ranked and under experienced for the task but his mother had been very stubborn and refused to elaborate why it was so important he take part. Apparently other team members had already agreed to take part in the mission but Rokku could not imagine why he had been invited to take part. At first he wondered if the Sarutobi elders had pulled some strings but judging by his mothers reaction it seemed unlikely. Missions of that rank were deemed to be very important and he did not believe for a moment that they would trust him to represent them in such important tasks. He was sure his mother would not be happy with them volunteering him on potentially dangerous missions either but for some reason she was keen for him to go. He had tried questioning her extensively and earned a strong hammer strike to the top of his head for his trouble. Next he had tried persuading his father to let slip some nugget or kernel of information but alas he had already been warned Rokku’s mother.
He checked and tripled checked his gear and was given a hearty breakfast and a stern lecture from his mother before leaving. She was usually very hands off, learn from your mistakes kind of parent but she seemed strangely tense. A mixture of hopeful, excited and if Rokku was not mistaken a little worried for her son. Rokku shook it off with a shrug and though he wouldn’t admit it, he was more than a little nervous. A-rank and S-rank mission teams were likely to include some skilled ninja in the village and he just hoped he wouldn’t mess up too badly or do something embarrassing for his family. The Hisara family of course, he cared little for the plotting and planning of the official Sarutobi clan members. They could lock themselves in their rooms and bicker over how to gain influence all they liked but Rokku would never take on the name, regardless of its prestige and roots.
Rokku headed to the mission directory office and waited as they tried to locate the missions he had been slated to join. He sat down and simply listened to the village and people moving around him, his time in the silent chambers during his study of the sound element making him appreciate the ambient chaos around him even more than before, revelling it in and riding the soft waves of living cacophony. He strummed invisible guitar strings with his fingers as he waited and was finally called up to the desk. “So what have you got for me?” Rokku tried to sound casual as he asked but the clerk looked rather unimpressed as they gave him a quick and efficient glance up and down. Once they scanned the information on a scroll they looked slightly puzzled and then surprised followed by a small amount of concern. “Room down the hall, first on the right, your mission scrolls are inside and you will be supervised whilst reading. Should any details be leaked before mission completion you will be subjected to a thorough investigation.” Rokku shrugged again and shook his head an provided a simple but hesitant reply. “Okay then .. uh thanks.” The clerk smiled as Rokku walked away but it was not comforting. “Good luck.”
Rokku entered the room and quickly read through the mission details as provided. The first mission involved exploring the underside section of the floating city and checking for signs of large scale erosion as well as clearing out any nests or dens of creatures that have decided to reside there. Rokku was also able to pick up on the inference that they were also to ensure that no unwanted visitors had set up bases there. Rokku had never really dwelled on the possibility before but realised how effective the underside could be for a missing nin to hide out on. How many people would look for a criminal living underneath the floating village after all.
Next he began reading the S-rank scroll, pausing before breaking the seal and opening it, he had never thought he would be involved with such and important mission so soon into his career and knew that S-rank missions could shape the course of a country with failure having disastrous results and potentially affecting thousands of people should he fail. The burden of responsibility was not one he actively sought out but the die had been cast and he would be tempered by the crucible of these missions or would likely break in the process. Rokku paused once the thought had passed and he muttered to himself. “Tempered by the crucible? I must have spent more time with Quinn than I realised, next thing you now I will be hammering hot bits of metal for fun!” He shook his head and cleared his mind, opening the scroll.
The mission described a series of events whereby a large scale shortage of livestock had been monitored and investigations discovered that large numbers had been culled in an unusual manner, perpetrator unknown. Rokku noted that even people had begun disappearing and their bodies found with almost identical condition to the livestock with all evidence pointing to something having a specific method of culling. Rokku saw how the information had been suppressed and seemingly impressively so as he had not heard so much as a rumour of any issues with livestock, though he had noted the price of lamb had gone up a little but then many goods fluctuated with price fairly routinely. It was not easy keeping a flying village fully stocked, after all. The squad had been assembled but he still had no idea who he was supposed to be working with, but it was surely someone strong. If they were sending a genin along then the village was clearly supremely confident in the other squad members selected.
Rokku left eh scroll behind and gave an awkward nod to the anbu member in the room before leaving, feeling oddly nervous and self conscious though he knew he had done nothing wrong. Something about the masks just made him uncomfortable for some reason. He headed towards the designated meeting point, an innocuous bench located at a small park not too far from the village gates. Rokku sat and waited, entirely unaware of who he was expected to meet or how long he would be made to wait. By his reckoning he was very early, and he waited in silence as he fought off apprehension and curiosity in equal doses to see who might have chosen him or perhaps been forced to drag along a genin for such high profile and important missions.

Motivated, friendly, ambitious, works well with others. A social butterfly, if you will. Safe to say, with a resumé such as Sebastian it came as no surprise that the higher ups kept assigning him missions that were carried out in teams of two or more people. Blessing the village with his presence, one of Otogakure's Masters traveled the streets of the village, making his way to that day's meeting point. Doing so, the Tau went over the information once more, preparing himself to a certain extent before they would officially be carrying out the tasks that were given to the Sound delegation.
First, it appeared they would have to deal with a little bit of maintenance, not exactly his forte but he wouldn't complain too much, yet. However, being a floating village didn't only have its perks. Due to being such a unique phenomenon, every now and again some of their forces were sent out to investigate and make sure the underside of the village was properly taken care of. Most importantly, they had to review one of the quadrants of the village's floating exterior and make sure nothing too strange was ongoing. "Sounds technical". Not exactly something Sebastian was used dealing with, but nothing he wouldn't be able to handle.
Assuming they were able to take care of that, the second task required a good amount of investigation, having to find out what was going on with some of the Land of Sky's farmlands. Recently, they encountered a strange occurrence of their animals disappearing, only to return a week or so later as fully decomposed skeletons. To make things worse, a few people started to go missing as well and the damage to the farm animal population became staggering as a result. With everything going on, it was expected to encounter a multitude of unique beasts recently coming out of hibernation, or even a cult organization performing such tasks. All the more reason for them to be prepared.
Having reminded himself about the mission contents on his way to the meeting point, Sebastian eventually arrived at the village gates. Doing so, the Tau noticed someone on the bench a couple meters away from him. Assuming they would be one of the individuals who'd accompany him on the missions, the Berserker approached the Genin in order to confirm said thought. "So, you've been assigned to maintenance and a little bit of investigation?". Giving the boy time to answer would also allow the third and final member of the group to show up.

- Getting Ready, Night Before:
- Quinn prepared the night before for what was to come. They had signed up for a couple of missions with Rokku from the Sarutobi and Otogakure’s favorite advising Master Sebastian Mikaelson. The Forgemaster was reviewing the scrolls they had picked up earlier in the day but was glad to see momentum and progress still going on even if it was just a few of them keeping the village afloat. The first mission was one involving the fact that the village resided on a floating rock instead of tactfully hidden on the ground. Given that they were in the Land of Sky, the shinobi who came to settle here made it distinctly on the nose to where their hidden village was. Perhaps if given the time of day to make a proposition to Kaito, the Land of Sky Native would propose they find a new land to bring harmony too. Growing up they always heard tales of lands in the East that bore claws and fangs at each other. One day they might make for a good place for the Sound Shinobi of Otogakure to present their harmonious ways.
The task being presented before them however was a dangerous one just due to the nature of the task. Normally ‘cleaning’ jobs ranged from E Rank Missions to in rare situations C Rank Missions, typically depending on the volume, time allotment needed, and difficulty. This clean up job was unique as it tasked shinobi to patrol and monitor the underside of the village. Presumably other villages had to do similar tasks but with sewers and culverts into their cave system network for civilians to get out of the village in dire times, but Otogakure had a floating village so they needed to make sure their underside was clean, and taken care of. Specifically those of dens and various adaptive denizens of the sky, or perhaps the land, who have taken it upon themselves to make a home on the floating rock of a village. Rather surprising to Quinn that it had managed to stay afloat for as long as it did.
Mental humor aside, however, the Blacksmith of Otogakure glanced at the other scroll that remained sealed. There was something going on within the Land of Sky that was affecting the farmers. Quinn was acutely aware of the orchards and other produce of the region but paid little mind to the meat and animal products, mainly because typically those were well guarded, maintained, and protected. Unfortunately to their present predicament, it appears the silence of the industry had a large knock on their door. It was time to pay the piper as it was Otogakure’s job in these situations to handle whatever may be removing prized pigs and giant cows the size of professional athletes, only to return them stripped of their meats and rights. Quinn was not going to go out on a limb on what or why this was happening but it definitely did not tickle their funny bone to consider that people were becoming part of the equation. Once fully reviewing the documents that outlined the missions, they moved Senth to lean against their door as the next day would bring quite a bounty of adventure to complete for the day. “Three Little Shinobi…”
- Joining With Rokku and Sebastian:
- Waking up the next day, came a multitude of things that needed to get done. First, they sorted out their business affairs with the help of their nephew who was finally getting the hang of the business. Their brother was reluctant at first as the kid did not show much promise towards harsh conditions or strenuous labor, but he was tempered by the Forgemaster and was renewed with vigor and determination to make their mark within the craft and market. Pride was a great word to describe Quinn and their nephew as both were pleased with his results. “Long day. Clean up at the end. Lock doors too.” Quinn commented as if nothing was out of the ordinary though this would be the first mission they would take the newly formed weapon of theirs on. Sen no Tama no Hakaomono, or as Quinn called it, Senth, was a custom piece they made for themselves with some rare materials they found along the way on their journey. With their equipment set and ready to go, Quinn ventured forward towards the gates of the village due to the nature of needing to investigate the outer lands of the village proper. Knowing their two companions would likely be waiting for them already, the Forgemaster spared no time waiting to head their way.
The village had grown quiet, one might even say complacent, but to Quinn, they knew the stories people were going through simply caught up to them in many different ways. There was no telling how things would play out without others to keep moving forward and along. The stories they could tell once the protagonists came back together would be wonderful and glorious. Until the day Quinn would cross paths with others they had previously encountered, the Forgemaster would endure, remain, and continue onward. The footsteps of their cadence would likely be the telling sign that they were arriving to Rokku and Sebastian as for once, Quinn had on their full Shinobi attire of their flak jacket, their headband that they wore on their upper left arm, and their eyepatch removed, showcasing the Blight of the Heaven’s mark that was symbolic of the village and its heritage from Sunagakure.
“Hope not too long. I’m ready to go. Final Checks?” They asked the duo as they approached. It was not the first time nor likely the last time that Quinn would meet on at the gates with them but perhaps it would be one of the quieter occasions the three would have in the coming weeks, who was to say or do about it. Once the others recognized their arrival and whatever quips returned to the Forgemaster, it was time to go about their business. Perhaps the two missions were tied together and the cleaning out of dens perhaps give insight to the overall disappearances. For the same skeletons showing up unannounced, it was clear that they were not hiding in someone’s closet for a week before coming out. Quinn continued to posture the selves in their nonchalant manner but their stoic composure remained. They did not seem to mind the challenge or concerns being presented by their two missions, though it definitely was something a bit more unorthodox for the Tokubetsu Jounin to handle. Their expertise and capacity lend them to be taking a brutish amount of damage and concerns from others but it never stopped them from trudging forward.
- Raising Expectations:
- Once the two confirmed their readiness for departure, Quinn took point and began the trek to the launching point to head to the village’s underside as outlined a detailed in the debrief they were given. “As usual. Great at distractions. Of needed. Great with brutish issues. Yell for help. Will fly over.” They said missing any beats as they looked over the shoulder at the other two presuming they followed behind. There was a degree of travel they needed to do to get to the destination point before dealing with clearing out the indicated quadrant for the initial mission with Raised Expectations. It was at the commentary that Quinn expected some sort of question out of the young genie that was brought along or a curious not foreboding at all comment from Sebastian. Quinn had grown fond of the two that were assigned this mission together and was thrilled to test out a few new things of theirs. It was going to be a curious day of show and tell presumably with the trio taking care of some more external woes of the village and the Land of Sky was facing.
With Quinn’s pace being steady, they made it to the edge of the floating village where an ANBU representative handed out to each of them a ‘flare tag’ as he called it. “If you find yourself falling for some reason, activate this using your chakra, and an ANBU member will detect it and attempt to reach you before you fall all the way. Aim for the ground and trees, it’s softer than the water that pools below us.” He said not moving an inch before in rapid movements he vanished. Likely the Shinobi went back to patrolling which was fair and reasonable. It was extreme cases where the village needed dedicated and distinct support to take care of business such as this given the spread of needs going on. They were likely handling other issues such as their other mission and managing the information network to keep the rumor mill from printing about the latest disappearance. Quinn took the tag and stuffed it into one of the flak jacket’s pockets before activating their chakra to begin their walking and scouting affairs in the sky on the underside of a village. Their sights were scanning the cracks and crevices to see for any lurking creatures, be it bugs or beasts, that may have made their homes there.
With Senth in their back, the Forgemaster practiced their movements and squatting to make sure the Kanabo did not hit the rocky terrain they were on. One wrong move could send a rock the size of Rokku plummeting below. Their hair was not long or length but it did give Quinn a lightly spiked appearance whenever they turned to look in Rokku’s and Sebastian’s direction. “Perhaps split up. Yell if in danger. Flares work too. We are closer than they are.” Quinn chimed at the two to see and gauge thoughts. Perhaps it was through their ascension up the Shinobi ladder, or perhaps it was just themselves, that Quinn had the confidence to propose the idea and concept to the other two. There was a lot of underground to cover and if they remained a close proximity cell of three, it would take ages to cover the affairs of what they needed to do on that day. Should they agree, Quinn continued speaking, “50 meters? Good distance. Should be able to hear. Makes it yelling distance.” They said that once they ventured more to the underside of the rock, the wind would fluctuate due to the weirdness of the topography of the land around the floating rock and the odd ‘open-air space’ between them and the ground below.
“Care of gusts. Likely to lose one’s foot.” They said to the others if they remained together, or yelled if they were farther apart. With all the commotion alongside their presence, Quinn made it a point to cause and stir up sounds as typically it either forced movements of whatever animals were in the area or brought forth the concept of a threat or new arrival for the more predatory animals that might be present to show up to defend their ‘land'. It was clear that something was going on else they would not have dispatched or put up the notice now of all times. There was always a justification or rationale behind the village's actions and as a dedicated villager and shinobi, Quinn did not pay mind to question the musings of leadership. Kaito had been away for a while now and Satoshi had taken a leave of absence to their knowledge. Guren the Sound 5 Commander was potentially also retiring which considering the length of his service to the shinobi world, was an accomplishment, to say the least. This really only left Sebastian present as a leader in his own right.
Being a leader was an interesting concept as Quinn considered what it would be like to be a cell leader of other shinobi. Becoming the Otokage was definitely not in the cards foreseeably for the Forgemaster as their priority of the wellbeing of the village and its safety was always a concern of theirs, be it the economics or general safety. They put in effort on more than one occasion to rid the fields around the village of banditry, made experiments, and other unsavory factors. This was no different a task to the Blacksmith of Otogakure as they scoured the underside of the village's floating haven in search of dens and 'beasts' that lay lurking about. There was something amiss to the scouting that they encountered nothing to this point even though it had been a while. This time let Quinn stew in their own thoughts and opinions of the direction the village was going and the harmony it brought to the Land of Sky, perhaps the village did bring some problems but it also solved many others. There was potential that the village could be a sharper tool elsewhere within the shinobi world but that was something that Quinn would need to research more into.
The dens that Quinn found on their own were really barren and not inhabited by beasts of concern as nests of birds were removed by the Tokubetsu Jounin in this instance. Looking out towards the other two, Quinn would make a gesturing motion if they were too far to really speak casually to ask how their progress was going with regard to finding the dens within the rocks. Gesturing with a thumbs up or respective thumbs down, they made an up-down motion back and forth with their hands as their hair remained heading towards the ground and pooled water below them. Their surface walking technique providing all the effort they needed to remain 'upright' on the rocky exterior they were investigating. It was clear to Quinn that the venture was fruitful so far in many ways, if not for the other's efforts but for their ability to have a serene moment to think about what they could do to help elevate the floating village further. It was an easy thing to think about such actions, it was another thing to execute on the thoughts and opinions of them.
Once the others indicated they finished their third or collective effort of searching for dens, Quinn chucked up their exploration as uneventful and should the others encounter difficulty, would have charged as quickly as they could with their total concentration breathing to aid in such efforts. Ready with Senth on their back, there was no beast within the Land of Sky that Quinn was afraid of. Though beasts being a nominal tern for creatures and not the monsters that exist in the shinobi world. Should one of those walk upon the gates of Otogakure at any point in time, surely Quinn would be fearful of what was to come, but that fear would only drive the efforts of the Forgemaster forward to contest such monsters should the time or day come, surely nothing like that would happen to such a growing village, even if it has been a bit quiet more recently. Once the trio came back together be it after such monumental combat scenes occurred or from just exploring and closing up holes, Quinn would give them affirming nods looking towards the route that they took to get back to where they shifted from the topside of the floating island.
- Silence Made by Quinn:
- The route back, Quinn took as a chance to see if there was anything that was missed. Surely something would look different as the angle of approach shifted before them. Their hair remained standing to its peaks without much worry in the wind as they took the lead towards the edge before returning upright, their hair falling back to its normal purview. The Blacksmith of Otogakure continued onward towards the last farmland where the encounters of missing and reappearing skeletons took place. During their travel, Quinn would voice up momentarily, "Thoughts on mission? So far at least?" They added in seeing the other two's thoughts on the missions that they were undertaking. The previous venture of assessing the underside of the village was one of need but thankfully proved mostly uneventful minus the potential hiccups that they encountered. As rambling as Quinn's mind was that day, it would be easily dismissed as being distracted almost and could easily explain the lax nature being presented even if they took care of a falling team member by flying and bringing them back to the floating rock, or through the user of their weapon in wide swings and strikes to remove such encounters from the equation.
Quinn listened intently to the words that were brought forth by the two. Their reactions to the encounters that did or did not happen were ones to take note of and something they considered as they progressed forward. The farms were a place where they encountered other matters of dire circumstance while also seeing not as many woes with both present. There was always something going on with the farms of the lands of the world for some reason and was a curious matter why villages did not just post shinobi or train farmers in the way of shinobi arts. It was a perplexing thought that Quinn entertained as they bounded the landscape of the Land of Sky with the village of Otogakure looming in the backdrop as they strolled up to the farmland of the most recent sighting of a sudden skeleton appearing, this time that of a young child. It was something that was unique and weird, to say the least, and presumably, they would be the first three to further investigate the matter, so it was a matter of trying to sort out what really was happening while the hidden forces of the village kept the affairs under wraps.
Considering the impact and the concerns that could be used to leverage farmhands being lazy or out of work, or perhaps the farmers themselves looking to just have shinobi to show up to scare off would-be bandits in the area, there were many justifications to talk about disappearing farm animals, but people going missing and showing back up as skeletons is one of the biggest concerns of the village's safety and wellbeing. Such matters like that would not go unpunished by the force of the Sound Shinobi but also would not be ignored by them. Such plights would not fall on deaf ears that day as the trio walked up to the land Quinn took a gander at the farmland before looking between the two, "Perhaps split up once more? Reconvene. Discuss findings. Proceed from there." They suggested once more as perhaps this was needed that to look around the farm, look into the family, and possibly medically examine the bones for validity. Hopefully, the village did their due diligence in confirming the bones were real and not fabricated, but there were plenty of folks who, with time and effort, could replicate the chemical and anatomical composition and appearance of bones, be it of beast or man.
Should the others concur and elect to separate to cover more ground, Quinn would offer to investigate the land itself as they were quite speedy in being able to cover large swaths of the ground easily along with having the ability to fly. Otherwise, they were more than willing to see about conversing with the farmhands on this or neighboring farms. It was clear they took the matter seriously as they awaited the input of others. It was ranked an S-rank mission and separating could prove dangerous. “If in danger. Make noise. Cause commotion. Use the flare.” Quinn added pulling the flare seal from their flak jacket. It was an easy use to get someone’s attention and possibly even alert any allies nearby. The challenge then would be to keep whatever the cause of the decision to remain within the vicinity. Quinn trusted the young rocker Rokku and the spur-of-the-moment man himself Sebastian. They would be an effective trio for sure, but perhaps this was the real test of their merit and capacity.
For Quinn to find proper effectiveness, the decision to take on scouting the farmlands was not due to their general sensory capabilities but rather their physical prowess. Two things came to the Forgemaster’s mind with this mission which was really how no one noticed farm animals or people disappearing let alone how skeletons reappear in their stead. Did the skeletons reappear where creatures and people were taken or were the skeletons simply discovered? How fast were the skeletons seen after being deposited back within the farmlands? There was much to discover in the fields of Otogakure and they were positive they would play a helping hand in figuring it out, be it due to creatures and monsters or that of cults and missing ninjas. Perhaps there was a mixture of both as the information was limited to begin with. All Quinn Foster could do given the situation presented before them was to continue onward toward finishing the task at hand. It was a long day, but it would become a memorable one before long for them.
Once journeying forward into the farmlands more properly, it was clear that Otogakure had excelled in allowing the lands of the Land of Sky to become cultivated and more flourishing. The influx of citizens of the village alongside the need for more export farming alongside sustaining the food supply. The farm animals roamed, with a handful of farmhands keeping an eye with a pitchfork in hand and some other tools that Quinn paid no mind to that fact as the issue was not directly with the hands as of yet, but rather the animals themselves. Moving to the barns that were in proximity, the agile blacksmith moved with care as they adjusted their flak jacket to be open as they routed to their destination. It was clear to them that something was afoul within the farms of Sky but there was no telling how long the peacefulness would last for the village and the surrounding land especially with the leader and his office slowly becoming a vacant space.
Of the notion of vacant space, Quinn's inquiry with investigating into the vacant barns turned up not a lot. The grain in the beds was worn and old and likely needed to be redone soon for the sake of the animals, likely a task for the current farmhands to worry about once the animals had been out long enough or perhaps another set of hands would come out and refurnish the beds themselves to keep the hands in small groups rather than isolated with recent affairs. The Forgemaster respected the decision to act in such a manner with regard to the safety of the workers but there was something amiss and they could not put their finger on it. That was until they touched the floor of one of the pens and felt what seemed to be a panel of some kind. Simply punching the ground hard resulted in a thudding noise that filled the barn they were in. It was peculiar that something like that was there as they grabbed a broom and swept the bedding away from what they could figure was either plywood or some other platform made of other material. It was clear there was more than meets the eye in the red barn.
Uncovered and swept, the panel itself was clearly recently added in as the discoloration of the animals' sweat and oils did not set into the wood that lay beneath the bedding of such creatures. Figuring this was a good time more than ever, Quinn simply pulled Senth off their back and slammed the kanabo into the ground breaking the paneling and revealing a small corridor that eventually veered off into darkness. It was something of note to report back to the others as Quinn sensed something approaching. It was a flare of chakra of some kind as they prepared for potential combat as the roof of the barn slowly creaked and cracked and splintered from a fireball that had missed the side of the barn. Confusion came to mind as Quinn bolted out of the barn to see this would-be assailant. "Couldn't hit the broad side?" Quinn called out towards the individual, seeing a cloaked and covered shinobi presenting themselves with a at their ludicrous miss on a non-moving target with that close of proximity. It was clear the smash of Senth on the wood likely disrupted his concentration.
Now faced with an opponent, Quinn took their mind to be conscious of their surroundings, it was unlikely this person was alone and the others, needed to equally step up in case wherever they were, be it in proximity or elsewhere in the farmlands, had encounters of their own. Capture was the first thought that came to the Otogakuran Shinobi's mind as they lunged forward with their Kanabo before proceeding to aim for a swift resolution of the matter. As quick as they were strong, Quinn's swing missed as the shinobi performed a few seals before disappearing before Quinn's eyes. They still felt their chakra with the innate sensory capacity they acquired through training as they looked down at a, now filled, hole as they cursed. Quickly acting, the Blacksmith of Otogakure imbued their weapon with earth-chakra as they breathed heavily, bringing the house down on the ground with Senth opening up a strong and powerful crack before the shinobi could fully get away.
The force of the technique sent a rumble through the land as the fire began to spread throughout the barn and into the pens. It was clear there was going to be some remodeling of the farm to be done but right now Quinn's focus was on this unknown assailant and capturing them. Shaken by Quinn's technique, the shinobi were exposed to open air as the crack that formed stretched out rapidly and into the side of the barn that a majority of the fire had spread to bringing it down into the whole with the person. Acting quickly however, the burning wood of the barn did not enclose the man as he swiftly was able to push himself out onto the land near the new crevice in the soil before launching a pressurized stream of fire towards Quinn. It was a back-and-forth fight and Quinn needed to end this sooner rather than later. The longer this went the worse it was going to end up or becoming should others get involved, on either side. The man had information that the Forgemaster wanted and it was clear that he was going to fight for it all.
With swiftness and wind on their heel, Quinn unleashed with blinding speed a protective and offensive capacity of Wind Breathing moving forward. Normally fire would overcome such attempts but it was clear that even with the capacity of difference, Quinn was stronger in their power. Approaching the man rapidly once more, he quickly aimed to try to sneak away or burrow but with that, Quinn made a clear effort to swing first without any further commentary. The snide remark of missing the side of the barn was one that would hurt the man's pride for as long as he lived but it was clear that he found the wrong target on that day. Quinn's flak jacket was scorched in a few places alongside parts of their pants. They looked a little rough for wear but nothing some medical ninjutsu later would fix, similar to normal ninjutsu to fix their clothes. Though they normally enjoyed supporting the local seamstress when it came to clothing repairs as they would simply fix their own armor. With the man fully captured and in custody, Quinn expedited the regrouping as they were sure the others would have joined up due to the commotion. As they were not equipped with any water techniques, the roughness of the fire being put into a hole in the ground was the best they could offer.
Back with Rokku the Rocker and Sebastian the Saint, Quinn The Forgemaster tossed the assailant in between the trio as he regained awareness of his surroundings. Quinn had tied one arm to the opposite leg and gagged the man should his mouth hold any additional secrets within. "Not sure who. Not sure where from. Not even sure if working alone." Quinn commented as they squatted looking the man in the eyes. "Surely he'll answer questions. Nothing worse than prolonged bone-breaking work." They said that indentured servitude of working as a non-stop farmhand was Quinn's thought of punishment for the shinobi. Though for any who were more attuned to the shinobi world would probably see the words of Quinn as an anguishing torture of one's body to the point of breaking bones over and over and healing them. Should the others chime in with other thoughts or commentary on potential solutions to have the man work or suffer for his actions thus far, it was clear that he did not want to incur any further wraith but remained stoic in the face of the three.
Quinn assumed the man had something up his sleeve should he get captured so Quinn simply looked at the others and shrugged. "Surely he's hiding something. Perhaps a more proper search. Full and invasive." They declared as they, somewhat, violently began to investigate him due to his unwillingness to allow Quinn to search him proved more problematic to the captured shinobi. With the search done and accomplished, Quinn knew that the timing and ordering of affairs was rough to work around sometimes but it is always easier should they volunteer the information they were looking for versus having to manhandle them for it. A single scroll caught Quinn's attention as they offered to the others to investigate as their knowledge of potential seals and the such was minimal, to say the least. Should one of the others choose not to, Quinn would in the end open the scroll carefully before revealing an outlined list of actions for the man before them to perform. It was simple, cause chaos somewhere on the farm, don't get caught, and allow for the animals to get taken into the barn where they would 'relocate' one at random. It was clear the operation itself was more involved in the actions and routine of the farm, so then the question was what was next.
Giving a debrief of what they discovered, Quinn asked if either of the two found out more about the skeletons' appearance or otherwise in regard to the overall investigation. Quinn had encountered their own challenge and difficulty as it took a lot out of them and they could feel their body slowly recovering as they conversed. It was clear the challenges of the day back to back would prove a hard task should they need to fight again, but it was clear that some organized crime was going on, and considering how Sebastian operated, knew it was a matter of time before he sniffed out the leader and had them either subjugated or replaced. The trio would prove beneficial and helpful to the conclusion of the affairs as once they offered their findings, Quinn would indicate the finding of the tunnel beneath the one barn in conjunction with the scroll outlining the instructions. With the man's use no longer needed at the time, Quinn swiftly knocked him out further to an unconscious state that he would not return to for at least a day. "Deal with him later?" Quinn inquired before seeing if Sebastian had any merit or plans for the man. If not, they would stash him somewhere safe till they returned to the village.
Not with direction and insight, it was a matter of clearing out the gutters of whatever organization had come to stir problems within the Land of Sky and on Otogakure's soil. Quinn led the duo to the barn that was half destroyed before showing and exposing the tunnel they had discovered earlier. It was enough for each of them to go down one at a time and considering the underground aspect, understood if either were not inclined to go in. "I can lead if needed. I'm fine with underground." They stated as if that would appease any of the potential concerns about going into the belly of the beast with consideration of the dangers. It could collapse, it could be a trap of some kind, and there were, to say the least, a lot of ways this could go wrong. In the face of potential disaster and woe, Quinn remained unflinching to the idea as they simply hopped down into the pit of danger once enough time had passed for the others to respond. Taking the lead in such a situation was one that Quinn found the easier course of action. Sometimes it took greatness to be thrust upon oneself to grow into a leader, and sometimes it took the need and desire to do all that was required to make the change in one's approach. Quinn was taking a hands-on course on becoming a leader at this point.
The venture down into the underground network was one of the crisscrossing corridors and various dead ends. Thankfully for the Sound Shinobi, using and picking up on sound queues began early in their career so using their Kanabo to tap on the earth to listen to echo sounds down paths they determined were likely dead ends helped eliminate many of the bad routes that were on their path. Eventually, with Quinn taking the lead, they were able to find a cavern underneath the farmlands where torches laid in sconces illuminating the surrounding path down the side into what looked like some sort of sacrificial altar. Quiet and slow to approach, Quinn kept to the shadows as best as they could before adjusting appropriately for the others should both of them come. If not then they would proceed as needed. Down below appear to be a few robed individuals, likely the main culprits. Their curse mark flared with the individuals in sight as a light green-gray coloration of chakra manifested around the body forming into wings as they launched forward into the air, silent in the cavern, Quinn flew through the air, Senth in hand swinging in a sporadic manner.
Barreling through the air at such a rapid speed, Quinn's swings caught two unaware as their backs were turned causing concussive force to knock them out before the third turned and rebuked that of Quinn's initial attack. As quick as they flew in on wings of sound from the Heaven's Blight, Quinn followed up the attack with a subsequent swing unleashing a wave of flames before adding in another arc of wind-infused chakra through their weapon followed up by an arch of Dust causing massive damage within the cavern to rumble and shake. The sudden onslaught of the organization members shook and brought attention from others who saw Quinn standing over the leaders with their heavy-handed weapon in one hand, their transformation keeping the massive appearance of the Forgemaster silent in the caves that were quaking under their pressure. With all three being grabbed by Quinn, They looked back to where they came and flew off knowing that the heads were no longer an issue and were captured alongside a grunt. Overall a quite resounding success. With the location found, it would be easy to alert other members of the village to investigate further.
Rejoining with the group, their transformation ended as slight cuts were seen on the edges of the flak jacket from the force of the chakra that encroached around them from inside of them. With the four captured, Quinn released the flare seal that was handed as an inquisitive shinobi appeared moments later, Quinn gestured at the pile of goons the trio had captured alongside any that Rokku and Sebastian found and gathered. After doing a small check-in to see how the others were doing, Quinn patted their chest above their flak jacket before looking back at the village. "I'll report back. Get some rest." They simply said waiting to see if the others would chime back or proceed to head back before others showed up. It was another mission marked as a success in Quinn's book and ledger at the end of the day but wanted to make sure nothing else was amiss before leaving the local farmlands unattended.

Waiting for the unfamiliar Genin to reply, Sebastian noticed how Quinn had joined the two of them in the meantime. "I see you're getting used to the Heavenly Blight" the Tau referred to the mark that was no longer hidden underneath the kunoichi's eye patch. It hadn't been that long since having it applied and the new, mysterious power now coursed through her body, but even a talented shinobi such as the Forge Master would still need time to adjust. "I'm glad you'll be helping us out, from the look of things, the situation calls for it". This time they wouldn't simply be solving a relationship dispute between two lovers.
Doing a final checkup as Quinn suggested, Sebastian made sure to confirm his preparations were complete. He was dressed as usual, wearing his Iron Sand cloak firmly yet comfortably around his body. Not that it mattered that much, the former mercenary never really paid any mind to miscellaneous stuff like this. He simply showed up and got the job done, just like that. Nevertheless, he respected and understood those who required to get themselves ready through whatever means they deemed necessary. After all, in missions such as these even the smallest mistake could lead to grave consequences, a slight error causing great danger.
Assuming everyone was ready to depart, the Tau followed Quinn who by then took the lead as she walked up front. Walking close behind, Sebastian engaged in some small talk, aware the trip to their destination would otherwise be quite boring if done in complete and utter silence. "The ability to fly, quite useful considering we're in the Land of Sky". Boom, another rhyme. While hers was granted by the Heavenly Blight, his was through the mastery of Iron Sand. However, instead of spreading his wings, the Berserker continued to follow along. After all, no point in wasting energy this early on.
With everyone's pace being quite steady, the three of them made it to the edge of the floating village where an ANBU representative was standing waiting for them. Exchanging the most basic of greetings, the shinobi then handed each of them a flare tag as he so described it. Doing so, the man continued to explain how it should be used, informing the Otogakure delegation that if they found themselves in any sort of trouble, falling for example, they should activate the tag using their chakra, and upon doing so, an ANBU member would detect it and attempt to reach them before falling all the way down. "Where's the fun without a bit of risk, am I right?". Sebastian stuffed it into one of his pockets before activating his chakra in order to begin walking and scouting any possible events on the underside of a village.
Usually acting rather nonchalantly, the former mercenary paid much attention to his movements, keeping in mind that one wrong move could send at least one rock down, potentially hitting anyone on the ground below should they not be careful. Even though he found himself in the utmost concentration, Sebastian still had the time to listen to Quinn as the Forge Master made another suggestion. In doing so, the kunoichi thought it would be better to split up, making sure to yell if any of them were in danger. With a lot of underground to cover and the fact they remained in a close proximity, it would take ages to cover the entirety of what they were supposed to do on that day. Assuming all three of them were in agreement, they decided to keep a distance of fifty meters.
As the three of them continued with care, they were reminded to be mindful of gusts as one was likely to lose their footing. And even though he was willing to put in the work, he would rather not be part of a story where one of Otogakure's Masters fell down simply because they took a wrong step or were blown away by a gust of wind. With that in mind, the Tau proceeded carrying out their task, reviewing one of the quadrants of the village's floating exterior with a watchful eye to make sure nothing too strange was ongoing.
Through his inspection, Sebastian noticed that most of the bird nests had already been removed by someone else prior. As he looked up, he saw Quinn making a gesturing motion to ask how their progress was coming along. Returning a signal of his own, the Berserker gestured with a thumbs up, signaling his search for dens was going well. So far, most of the ones he found were barren and without any sign of so called beasts. Not that it was something he would mind, running into a creature of some sorts wasn't exactly something on the Tau's bucket list.
Assuming he wouldn't find anything after having searched for quite some time, the Berserker looked over to see if any of the others required help or if they were about to finish up as well. Noticing how Quinn started to pack up, an indication they finished their effort of searching for dens, Sebastian followed her example and prepared himself to call it a day, at least for the first mission out of the two. Once all three of them came back together, the Master of Sound returned the Forge Master's nod before heading out for the second task on the list of things to do.
On the way back, Sebastian listened as the blacksmith of Otogakure asked them about their thoughts on the missions so far, to which the Tau replied. "A man of my stature shouldn't have to deal with such things, but alas. At least it didn't take that long to finish up". Luck was on his side, had it been not, their group would probably still be cleaning and carrying out maintenance. Even if assessing the underside of the village was a necessary task, he still didn't enjoy it. Nevertheless, given the importance of the situation, the Berserker decided not to complain.
In case either of the two had something they wanted to add, Sebastian would listen attentively and pay close attention to anything Rokku or Quinn wished to say. In the meantime, their group of three were about to arrive at the farmland of the most recent sighting of a sudden skeleton taking on the appearance of a young child. "Halloween came a bit early this year" the Tau responded to the unique and weird situation they were presented with. Whatever the case, it was something that required further investigation and a matter of finding out just what was happening exactly.
Farm animals disappearing was one thing, but people going missing and showing back up as skeletons would be a whole other, causing the concerns of the village's safety and well being to increase. As they walked on the land, Quinn suggested splitting up once more which would allow them to cover more ground. "Very well, Forge Master" Sebastian replied in a slightly teasing manner, aware the kunoichi wouldn't be able to discern it as such. Jokes aside, the Tau started to look around the farm in order to inspect or confirm whether or not the bones were real or fabricated.
While doing so, he noticed how Quinn would investigate the land itself. "You too partner, be careful". Now having a moment to himself, Sebastian couldn't help but wonder how no one noticed farm animals or people disappearing, let alone skeletons reappearing instead. Did they simply exchange or replace the missing people with the bag of bones, or were they randomly placed down, adding more to the confusion? A lot of questions and no answers. With not a lot of information available to them, it was quite difficult to begin with. Either so, the only way is forward, as they say.
Scanning the surrounding area close to a nearby barn, Sebastian suddenly heard a thudding noise not that far from him. "What's she up to now?" the Tau questioned out loud, aware Quinn had to be involved somehow. Entering the barn, activating his Byakugan, the Berserker noticed a small corridor. Simultaneously a flare of chakra appeared up high, most likely meant to signal both the Tau and Rokku. Being closer than expected, he simply approached and entered the lion's den. Assuming the inexperienced Genin would follow behind later, the former rogue knew it was best to finish things up rather quickly.
Upon his arrival in the darkness, the Tau saw Quinn face to face with an opponent. Aware the Forge Master could handle her own, Sebastian decided to watch for now, only interfering should the situation require him to do so. Through the vision of his Byakugan, the Berserker followed each of their movements, the culprit unable to hide his presence from the lilac eye. With fire beginning to spread it was clear there would be quite the aftermath. The fight was going back and forth, a spectacle involving fire and burning passion. Whoever turned out to be the victor remained to be seen for now.
Slowly but surely the tides of the battle turned in Quinn's favor, her opponent trying to sneak away but to no avail. With the culprit now captured it was time for their group to gather once again. "Good job, Forge Master. I'll take it from here". Using his mastery over Water Release, Sebastian quickly put out the fire in order to save whatever was left from the barn. Even if it wasn't much, it at least meant the farm people wouldn't have to rebuild completely from scratch. That as well as stopping the risk of the fire spreading any further.
Now that the three of them were back together, the assailant got tossed in between their group as it was time to question them. "Let's find out if he has the answers we're looking for". Before starting the interrogation, Otogakure's blacksmith assumed the man could be hiding something. On that note, Quinn began to roughen him up a bit before a scroll caught their eye. Opening it up, it revealed a list of actions that the culprit needed to carry out. Things as causing chaos, making sure not to get caught et cetera. Safe to say, there was still a lot for them to uncover.
With at least one piece of the puzzle completed, Sebastian suggested reaching out to a couple of his underlings after taking over the gang he usurped not that long ago. If anything went on in the village, they would know. In the meantime Quinn knocked out the culprit after everyone agreed to deal with him later. For now they squeezed out every bit of information they could get out of him, making him rather useless to Otogakure. "You created a hole, might as well put it to use and bury them in there". Those who were not familiar with the Tau would be left wondering just how serious he was.
For now the three of them decided to uncover which organization was behind all of this, Quinn leading both Rokku and Sebastian to the barn, or at least what was left of it. Doing so, the kunoichi took them to the tunnel they had discovered earlier. Making their way underground, with Quinn taking the lead, they were able to find a cavern underneath the farmlands. Venturing further in the cave, they would witness suspicious robed up individuals, likely the main culprits. Just as before, the Forge Master made the first move, launching themselves in the direction of the strange group.
In her transformed state, Quinn caught two of them by surprise, taking care of the others without breaking a sweat. The female blacksmith would then rejoin with Rokku and Sebastian, the four robed individuals successfully captured. "Great job today, you more than deserved your rest". With quite the eventful day behind them, the Sound shinobi could finally head back home and recover. Whereas things started rather tame, they took quite the turn towards the end.

Rokku turned his head as an unfamiliar voice asked if we would be participating in the missions and he had been about to respond when he realised who it was that was addressing him. Roku’s mouth worked up and down slowly for a moment, at a loss for words before he leaped to his feet and gave a deep yet awkward bow before responding to one of the masters and original founders of the village. “Yes Sir! I am Rokku Hisara but my mother was born into the Sarutobi clan. Its an honour to be working with you Master Mikaelson. I knew they would be assigning someone capable to the missions but I didn’t think it would be one of the founders." Rokku eyes drifted to Sebs own, noting the telltale signs of a byakugan and a sharingan with the acute knowledge they had likely been trophies claimed. The stories of the masters were well known and there were many whispers about Sebastian.
Curiosity got the better of the genin and he could not help but ask. “Is it true you can use all 5 chakra natures like some of the Sarutobi? I heard it argued about before once so thought I would ask. If that’s allowed? Are there special rules when talking to someone of your rank?” Rokku was uncertain precisely what to say and was aware he was making a scene in front of the last active master in the village. Fortunately he spotted a familiar red haired friend approaching though for once they were not wearing their usual suit and trousers combo but dressed in full ninja gear, a strange sight Rokku had not seen before. Rokku also noted the missing eyepatch but tried not to look directly at them.
“Ah Quinn, perfectly timed! I was uh, just introducing myself to Master Mikaelson. I believe I am good to go as well.” Rokku noted Quinn did not seem surprised by the arrival of one fo the villages founders and masters but then Rokku was not certain he would even be able to tell if they had been shocked, or if Quinn was capable of being caught off guard as it were. More intriguing was the Master himself, seemingly very nonchalant as he wandered over and spoke to Rokku as any passerby might. Rokku would have expected…he wasn’t sure what he expected, he didn’t think the founders walked around on rose petals where ever they walked but he assumed there would be some kind of pomp and ceremony involved. He reflected that clearly not all the stories were true.
Rokku followed Quinn to the launching point, sneaking glances at the founder as he walked nearby, still a little starstruck and amazed he was actually on a mission alongside him, and the most important missions he had ever been assigned at that. He was uncertain his family would believe them but he would know the truth at least. Quinn offered advise in their usual encouraging manner, short and too the point. “Thanks, I have been working on the sound element since you helped me learn it, if you hear an ear splitting scream then I’m probably in danger. Not sure exactly how dangerous the creatures on the rock could be but just in case.” Rokku again glanced between Quinn and Seb, feeling slightly embarrassed and trying to recover some resolve. “I should be fine though I think.” I hope.
Rokku received the flare tag from the ANBU member and looked at it a little confused, he had been about to ask when Quinn began explaining their use and purpose. As Rokku glanced over the edge and looked down he nodded. “Thanks, that’s comforting to know. Just aim for the trees and ground not the water, got it.” The Anbu member had disappeared mid sentence and Rokku shrugged and placed the chakra flare tag safely below his Gaia Gauntlet for ease of use if required. Rokku clicked his neck and stretched his back a little before following Quinn over the side of the floating island, for once his long hair did not cover his face as it hung downwards. Rokku fished several hairbands from his pocket and pulled his shoulder length hair back into a small and tight ponytail at the back of his head and out of the way. Again Quinn spoke up and Rokku replied loudly, annunciating clearly. “50 meters sounds good, I will be careful where I place my feet, I can also create a rock shelter or a temporary platform with earth moving core if you need it as well.”
With his team informed Rokku moved past Quinn heading 50 meters to their right as they walked and began scanning the are for little hidden nooks and crannies or unwanted fauna that might have stumbled across the floating village. Rokku focused on the task at hand, actively choosing not create or listen to music in his head as he was acutely aware of the sky/ ground above him or in reality below that oddly seemed to beckon him. It was a strange unnatural kind of feeling and he considered it must be like being a bird.
As he walked he found a few sections that appeared burrow or nest like but found little over than a several bats that scattered when Rokku investigated further. He glanced over at the other two making corresponding hand signals when he found something or if he hadn’t. Rokku was not familiar with the underside of the village and was beginning to wonder exactly how long it would take to finish coverage of the sector they had been dispatched to investigate when Quinn announced the search had been completed. Rokku made a thumbs up to show acknowledgment and rejoined them on the walk back. “Have to say this is one of the more interesting missions I have been on, doubt many get to see this view.”
With the inspection complete they returned to the upper side of the floating village and returned the chakra tags. Rokku stopped channelling the chakra to his feet and dusted off his hands before heading out to the farmlands below. Rokku kept quiet as they travelled not wanting to speak juts for the sake of it but also restless with the walking. Rokku defaulted to his usual tactic of playing music in his head and composing. It helped pass the time and kept his mind active at the very least. Quinn spoke up seemingly from out of nowhere and it shocked Rokku back to reality as he considered the question. Some kind of test maybe? I need to be careful how I answer.
“Well the inspection was interesting and its good to know there isn’t anything to insidious lurking beneath with designs upon the village. Other than that it seemed like a pretty routine patrol really, just with the risk of falling to your death or maybe horrific injury if you lucky and manage to aim for the trees.” Rokku smiled but reprimanded himself in his own mind. Careful idiot it might be a test, don’t be glib!
“As for this mission, I am not sure I can comment yet, I never thought I would be placed on an S-Rank mission so soon and I don’t really want to overthink it too much and mess up the mission. I don’t want to fail the village when its given me a chance to prove myself.” Especially in front of Quinn and a village master and founder! Rokku watched the farmers going about their lives and wondered what it must be like living in the shadow of the village, did many of them visit the village or perhaps dream of living up there? Suddenly the notion of the complaints and boredom of living in Otogakure seemed petty and childish. Rokku had the choice to live in the village or not but many might not even be given the chance. Perhaps only because he was luckily to be born of a good musician and a famous clan of ninja. Rokku clicked his tongue at the thought, he could not help who he was or the blood he carried in his veins yet he still didn’t like be associated with the elders of the clan in Oto. Yet despite his attempts to break free of them it felt as though their grip on him were simply getting tighter and tighter. He couldn’t even now if he was chosen for the mission because of his ability or because they wanted it to happen and the knowledge it was likely the latter, ate at him secretly.
Rokku nodded when the suggestion was made to split up and search. During his wanderings he discovered a few more of the desiccated corpses but in less number than they had previously stumbled across. He continued to search the area but found little further of note. Rokku headed back to the rendezvous point and noted Seb was already there and Quinn joined shortly after before leading them to a barn with a tunnel hidden within. Quinn offered to lead and Rokku spoke up. “I have a few earth style techniques if we run into trouble, should be enough to help if they try some kind of ambush but I don’t want to get in your way, I can serve as a rear guard if you like though.”
The tunnel lead down into a series of caves but Rokku hung back a little to guard the rear until he heard commotion up ahead but the fight was seemingly over before he arrived. “Wow that was quicker than I thought Quinn, not too surprising I suppose though.”
The small group journeyed back to the village and Quinn offered to do the report. Rokku was tempted to simply head home but felt as though he had contributed very little to the missions so decided to accompany Quinn and assist with reporting in. “I will join you and help with the report if you don’t mind. I know I wasn’t much use on the mission today so I can least help with that.”

With the missions now completed fully, Rokku spoke up about adding to the report. A solid nod came from the Forgemaster as they gestured forward. "Time waits on no one." They simply said as they continued forward toward the administration tower. Two more missions down, however many more to go.

Rokku was pleased that Quinn accepted his request to assist with the report and proceeded to the mission centre, allowing Quinn to take the lead and occasionally chiming in with comments on what he had seen or done whilst separated from the main group. Rokku was less than impressed with his personal contributions to the mission but was glad they had all come out of it unscathed an unharmed and the view from below the floating village had been a once in a lifetime experience for the genin. Not to mention meeting with one of the village founders and master. All in all it had been a good day and he was sure there would be many more good missions to come though he hoped he could focus on some lower stakes once for the near future.
