Effect: The Eight Gates are eight specific points on a person's Chakra Pathway System. They limit the overall flow of chakra within a person's body. The basis for the idea of the chakra gates comes from the body's limits on the functions within it. This makes the body much weaker, but it keeps the body from expiring too soon. By undergoing intense training, one can learn how to open these gates allowing the user to surpass their own physical limits at the cost of extreme damage to their own body.
Rock Lee is able to open the first five gates. Might Guy, who taught Lee the skill, is able to open all eight. Kakashi can open at least one gate, as shown during Kakashi's one-handed rock climbing where a shot of his brain shows the relevant point activating, as well as in his usage of the Front Lotus. Opening the gates is a difficult feat even for the most talented ninja, and Kakashi was surprised to find out that at that time, a 13-years old Lee could open as many as five of them.
The state of having all Eight Gates open is known as "Eight Gates Released Formation" (八門遁甲の陣, Hachimon Tonkō no Jin; English TV "Eight Inner Gates Formation"). Any shinobi who activates this state will temporarily gain powers greater than a Kage, but they will die because of the damage done to their body. Due to the immense amount of chakra flooding the body all at once, drastic changes can occur upon the user's body. The most common of these changes are the darkening of the skin, eruption of veins around the temples, and the eyes turning completely white, though this is not always the case.[1] The recipient's voice also becomes deeper for the duration of the release.
Gate Effects:
1. Gate of Opening, located in the brain. This gate removes the restraints of the brain on the muscles so 100% of their strength can be used whereas normally, a person can only use 20% of their muscles' strength to keep them from disintegrating. Unlocking this gate allows the user to use the Front Lotus. (Causes slight damage to the body)
2. The Gate of Healing, located in the brain. Forcibly increases one's physical strength and temporarily re-energises the body. (Restores most damage, refreshes body, does minor damage to user after duration is over)
3. The Gate of Life, located on the spinal cord. Allows the user to use the Reverse Lotus. The increased blood flow turns the skin red. (minor spine damage)
4. The Gate of Pain, located on the spinal cord. Increases the user's speed and power. May cause muscle tissue to tear on use. (medium spine damage)
5. The Gate of Limit, located in the abdomen. Increases the user's speed and power. (tears stomach muscles after duration is up)
6. The Gate of Veiw, located in the stomach. Increases the user's speed and power. Allows the user to perform the Morning Peacock. Opening of this gate releases such enormous amounts of chakra that it can cause nearby water bodies to form a vortex around the user. (causes major damage to muscles, and some minor damage to organs)
7. The Gate of Wonder, located below the stomach. Further increases the user's speed and power. Allows the user to perform the Daytime Tiger. Those who open this gate will pour glowing blue sweat from every inch of their body, which immediately evaporates from their own heat energy, creating an aura which people would mistake as a blue chakra coating. (Unfortunately, the side effects of opening the gate are that the user's muscle fibres are ripped to shreds, causing intense pain if anything or anyone touches them.)
8. The Gate of Death, located at the heart. Releasing this gate uses up all of the body's energy. It makes the heart pump at maximum power and exceeds the power of every other gate. (Opening this gate gives the user power that is even beyond the five Kage, but comes at the expense of the user's death shortly after.)
The Boosts:
(note: these are ALOT less than cannon, the first gate in cannon multiplied speed and strength by five)
1. User has 150% of speed and strength, and 200% of chakra
2. User has 175% of speed and strength, and 300% of chakra
3. User has 215% of speed, 200% of strength, and 400% of chakra
4. User has 250% of speed, 225% of strength, and 500% of chakra
5. User has 300% of speed, 250 of strength, and 600% of chakra
6. User has 325% of speed, 300% of strength, and 700% of chakra
7. User has 350% of speed, 350% of strength, and 800% of chakra
8. User has 400% of speed and strength, and 1000% of chakra
Notes:
After ten uses of each gate, the user gains resistance to the gates, so that they lose their negative effects on him/her. The user must use them in fights to count.
When I say "ten uses" what I mean is that each gate has its own system, effectively in order to become immune to the first gate's damage, one would have to use it ten times, or the second gate five times, or the third gate 3 times, etc.
Say I want the fifth gate without damage, I would have to use it ten times, or I could use the fourth gate twenty times, or the sixth gate five times. Effectively, after that, I would be able to use that gate without damaging myself.
For the seventh and eight gates, after ten uses the damage drops ALOT, but is not erased, it is never erased. Instead of instant death for eight gate, the user could be put into a coma for a week, or get his muscles torn like the seventh gate before resistance.
Visual Description: For Psychosis specifically, a golden aura surrounds his body, turning his hair golden and spiking it up.
