A ninja's rebirth (P, Valpula Only)
Wed Nov 28, 2012 4:26 pm
A coma can do a lot to a person by changing everything about them. Valpula knows first hand what it can do because he has been there, he knows what it was like to wake up from not existing for almost two years, and he can tell you every detail he can remember about the experience. However when you ask him what he felt when he woke up and the time after it, he could not tell you, and he never will be able to. How much a person like Valpula can change. It had been exactly 1 year, 171 days, 15 hours, and 45 minutes since Valpula last had his eyes open. For the last amount of time he was in a coma from something at his ruined parents house, to most the first question they would think in their mind would be "Where am I?" or "How did I get here?", but not for Valpula whose first thought was... nothing. It was the middle of the night, nobody was around to help him or tell him what had happened, it was the middle of night, with Valpula's shadow being cast by the bring full moon tonight.
When Valpula had woken up from the coma that he was in, he was not the ninja that he was before. The nurses said that they were about the pull the plug on the genin a few days later but thankfully Valpula awoke just in time. When he woke up the first thing that he did was open his eyes, thinking that there was an eye patch or something on his right eye he tried to take it off, but there was no eye patch. The first experience for Valpula was realizing that he had lost sight in his right eye, something that came from the explosion or the poison, but Valpula showed no emotion. Even though half of his vison was lost because of the previous events he did not care anymore. A normal person would have probably felt some sadness for losing his eye, anger for the reasons that it was long, or hope that one day he could regain vision in it through any means necessary. Instead Valpula just turned his head and gazed into the mirror situated next to him to see his new face and the possible horror that it could be. In all, his face had not looked changed in the slightest, even his blind eye looked the same from the outside, and the only difference were the slight differences that came from him growing while in his coma. There was no scarring to his face at all but there must have been some scarring to his brain as he was not feeling. Valpula did not know why he did not feel, knowing that he did feel before he went into the coma, and he did not know what to think about not being able to feel. Perhaps it was because his knowledge was still trying to remember, or maybe something deeper was afflicting him, not allowing him to think about feeling.
Still alone in his room (because the nurses probably did not need to come into the same room to see the same result all the time) Valpula got up from the bed and tried to stand. It took him a long time to get out of the bed because he had not done so for so long, even sitting up seemed to be challenge, and most of the muscle mass seemed to fade. For about ten minutes Valpula tried to get up from his lying state without much success, his abdominal and leg muscles which had been dormant for almost two years took a long time to get back any mobility. His bones from being in this state for so long started to crack and have feeling again, as if a un-oiled machine that had been out of use for years was just given oil and beginning to work again. He notices as his blood was flowing through his veins and arteries at a faster pace than what was before because the vessels began to expand. He noticed that his legs and arms were seemingly being poked by 1000 needles every second from lack of previous movement. Valpula had not been moved from this bed for a long time, something Valpula knew was a problem from his readings on the human body. All the above symptoms fit as though the nurses neglected to move his body for him to keep it mobile, as though they did not care about the boys conditions, and Valpula understood that was the case. Who would want to come into a room everyday and pick a boy up so his body could work. It did not make sense to do the latter so Valpula understood. Even though he should have been angered by that realization he was not, most people would have been mad that the nurses and doctors that were treating him did not give them the up most care while they were in a coma, but Valpula could not feel nor express that emotion.
Valpula could fell as the lactic was draining out of and onto the muscles of his thighs and abdominal, the primary muscle groups that would help somebody get up from a bed. To most people this is an easy task because they did it every day, Valpula before all of this wasn't a strong ninja to begin with, rather working with his chakra pool which he knew was immense, but even this task seemed to be a challenge. As old knowledge filled Valpulas brain again he remembered that he would still have the muscle mass needed to complete the task, it was just going to be a challenge to do so. Valpula laid down for a few minutes again just to let the acid burn off from his body and restart his muscles, allowing him to complete the task with relative ease next time he got up, and so Valpula just started up ahead at the ceiling. As he waited he counted all the small tiles that filled it up, not counting the partial tiles covered by the lights. He counted there to be 70 rows and 150 columns of these small squares filling up the room, with exactly 100 of those squares not counted as they were partial ones, which equaled 10400. Valpula knew the math needed to complete the equation but he noticed that he would have to take some time to remember all of those past experiences and use them in practice.
With the time that it took for Valpula to complete that simple math (which was about 15 minutes because Valpula still had to count all the rows and columns of small squares perfectly he was ready to try to sit back up again on his bed. Even with being in a coma for the past few years his knowledge about the human body was still with him, as he was able to sit up and have his torso reach his knees easily. The movement only took about 2 seconds to complete, which was only double that of a normal person, and Vretyel noticed how impressive that was given his previous state. From what he had remembered from reading everything about the human body he thought that it would take longer than week for him to sit up like this, seeing as though he was a ninja before this all happened, and Valpula non existent reaction to the pain coming from the lactic acid contributed to this physical success. From his previous medical readings he knew that it was going to be best for him to get one or two muscle groups back to normal instead of working them all out at the same time. So for the next few hours Valpula was going to assess the situation he was currently in by doing sit ups while still in his bed. It was really cold that night because of the cool breeze that Valpula had noticed on his face when he sat up so Valpula did not mind having the blanket still on him as he worked out because for some unknown reason a nurse had opened a window sometime in his coma and decided not to close it. Valpula looked out the window to see the sand villiage for the first time, to see if anything had changed, but from this point of view nothing was looking familiar, so Valpula could not make a valid statement. Unable to determine the fate of the sand village Valpula laid back down on the bed and begun his training regiment to get moving again.
He could not figure out what time it was or even when the sun was supposed to rise, the clock in his room was covered in shadows and he could not see what time it depict on his small rotating arms. He decided still he was going to do sit ups until the sun rose, which he thought would give him enough time to train the two muscle groups before moving on to other parts of his body. He noticed that he was breathing heavily still and he was sweating a small bit, but he could not feel any pain from either effect on his body. He noticed that his heart rate was also beating faster but he could not feel the side effects, his breath was faster and heavier, but he did not notice it. As he did his push ups gaining his strength Vretyel realized that physical pain did not bother him either. It was something that seemed to be benefit for Valpula because if he was in a fight and he was injured then he would be able to use his nulled pain receptors to get away without the loss of focus, less of course he was out of blood in his body. He continued to the sit ups as he felt as his muscles were starting to work like they did when he was out of his coma first. As he knew that the sun was rising soon he was going for just a few more moments of work before day break. He continued to do his sit ups faster and with more resistance going down, showing how much control over he had over his muscles and his body then what he did before. Then just a few minutes later the sun began the rise, showing the village for the first time since he woke up from his coma.
Valpula then decided that training was over and he decided to look and sit up at the window side of his bed, turning a bit to get a clear view of the sunrise, but not getting out of bed at all. Holding onto his knees with his hands Valpula looked onto the village for the first time. One thing that he did not think was going to have to adjust was his eyes. Even the small glare of sunlight on to his remaining viewing eye was glaring bright and blinding to his eye. He had to look away almost the entire sunrise because it was so bright. He noticed that his remaining eye was more sensitive then his previous eye before he went into the coma. While in this state Valpula assumed that his other eye had become more sensitive because it was the only eye that functioning. It took him almost and hour waiting for the sun to go up that his eye was finally able to look into the sun for just a few seconds, he was now able to survey the area better of the town and with the sun rising Valpula was ready to get out the bed and start walking and to the window to get a better look. As he pulled the covers off his body for the first time Valpula saw how his legs had changed while he was in the coma. The biological features that were there before had become more developed and hair that was not on his legs before had grown out which was a sign of just how much time had passed.
Valpula finally turned his entire body so that he was sitting on the bed now looking at the window. On the count to three he would try to walk for the first time. "1" he thought out, thinking about how to walk because he had not in so long. '2' thinking about how it was just like riding a bike it should not be a problem. '3' Thinking that he could do this, there was nothing that was stopping him. So with a thrust from his arms he stoop upright for the first time in almost two years. It was an amazing feat for the second that it lasted. Even if Valpula thought that he could still retain the knowledge of how to walk he still could not stand. He collapsed the floor in about a second. After being up and proud of himself he had just failed, but Valpula did not care. He assumed it was because like the other muscles in his body he would have to train them to get back into the swing of things. Valpula then used the strength in his arms to try to get back up from this position, but like his legs his arms were still to weak from not moving. To most people that would have have been a blow to their pride not being able to stand up right anymore, but for Valpula all he noticed as the fall he took on his ass.
At this point Valpula had been awake for almost five hours and sun was now glaring up on him as he layed down, there would be little chance that he would be able to get up on his own. He noticed that after about two hours when the son rose up somebody came into the room. It was a nurse who probably was waiting to the daily checkup. She was talking to another nurse in the hallway and when he opened the door it appeared as though she had dropped something on the floor. Although she could not yet see Valpula she knew that he was there as she walked right to the location of the boy. She just looked at him in a bit of shock but then knew what needed to be done. Valpula turned his head to face the nurse, she was taller than most people that he knew, with brown hair and some green eyes the color of jade. All of these features made her look very attractive, but Valpula only looked right into her eyes and gave the look of nothingness. IT was as though the message that Valpula was conveying with his face was "I don't need you, get out." but the nurse was going to have none of it. The nurse called in two other nurses and a doctor to look at the boy poking and prodding at all of his feautures and asking the most stupid questions Valpula could think of at the time. Of course he knew where he was, he knew what he name was, and he knew what year it was. They all asked questions about how he was feeling and what had happened to him, however Valpula did not say a word to any of them about anything that they had asked. After they took ten minutes with no answer they finally realized that it was hopeless and there was nothing that they could do to make him talked so they just tried to help him up. When he finally stood up one of the nurses came up to get him something to help him walk. In shock still probably because of all it the nurse had the bright idea of just getting him a cane to help him walk around. He took the cane in his right hand and put all of his weight on it, using it to get him to walk around.
It had been almost two years since the day that Valpula lost his parents, it was the day that he had completed the genin exam at the late age of four teen, and everybody in the school laughed at him when he got it. As a 14 year old genin when he had so much potential to be a young jounin ninja was a joke, and Valpula knew it. When he first went up for the genin exam at the age of 10 Valpula was too nervous to do the transformation jutsu in front of the teacher because he had not studied the night before. The teacher said that it was a lack of motivation and ability to become a ninja, something that a true ninja would never do, but that was not the case at all. Valpula at the age of ten had been working with his parents, two of the brightest ninja in the hidden sand village, on a paralysis poison. Often his parents needed his help for their projects, finding test animals to use thier new creations on, taking down notes when his parents were doing careful and frantic measurements, and sometimes doing the operation himself but injecting the poison into the animal. His parents thought that this would be the only way for Valpula to know the horrors and dangers of life, by showing him that the weak and helpless, like the animals he constantly injected with poison, and that the only way he was going to survive was by knowing the pain that those weak people endure.
The first time he had a kill an animal was a rat that he found on the street the day before when he was 7 years of age. Although many people would not like a rat to be with them, this rat was something special to the young boy becuase of the way that it looked, and he loved the color of the rats fur. When Valpula brought the rat home his mother and father were concerned that he could grow up to be affected by emotions for the weak like his new rat, and realized that the only way that they were able to show him that was for him to kill his new friend. When his parents sat him down and told him to do it, Valpula started to cry a bit about having to kill something that was going to be his best friend. When he pleaded with his father not to have him kill the rat his father was insulted by the lack of confidence exerted in the boy at that time, angered by the fact that his son was going to be turning into a weak and helpless child, and then he slapped him accross the face. That was the first time that Valpula ever felt pain, blood dripping from his young face as his mother did nothing, knowing that it was the right thing to do his son, and the message was taken loud and clear by the young boy. He understood then that his parents were only trying to protect him, so that he may survive one day when they were gone, and although he was not happy with his parents for making him do such a horrible act, he knew that it was what needed to be done.
One that first night Valpula was supposed to inject a new poison that his father had made to target the victims respiratory system, causing the diaphragm to contract and expand at uncontrollable rates so that the victim would either suffocate himself or die from hyper ventilation. The poison was going to be the first of a long line of poisons that were going to make the sand nations the best in the world, deadly assassins and predators, and show that Valpula's parents were the best in their field. They gave thier son the vial containing the poison and told him to inject it into his rat, a feat that he did instantly to prove that he was not going to allow love and affection to get in the way. The rat died in a matter of seconds with Valpula wiping tears down his face, it was nothing that he could stop from doing then, but his parents were still happy that he had completed the task when he was told to. The next day during the exam his emotions were not yet contained and he was not able to do any of the jutsu that he needed to. He understood then why is parents did not want him to gain attachments like that because it would impede him in the heat of battle. Although he failed the exam his parents thought it was a success because he understood (Valpula) why his parents made him kill the rat.
That was a time when Valpula had emotions, Valpula did not particularly enjoy training, nor did he enjoy actually going around and meeting people to train with. No that Valpula was out of his Coma he had to train many of the techniques and abilities that he had lost during his almost two year coma. Valpula did not care, he knew what he had to do and decided that he was going to do it, but he wasn’t happy about it. Before he could even being to lift a puppet again Vretyel had to stay in the hospital for a long while a train his body and his chakra pool more. So he decided that what he would go the desk that was right next to him. Slowly doing so he and the nurse escort got the chair out and then moved out the way so that he could sit. For the first time since he was awake Valpula said one word, and word only. "Puppet" he whispered in the room just loud enough for the two nurses to hear and with one swift movement one of the nurses left to get something which Valpula assumed would be the item that he asked for.
A few minutes later Valpula saw that the nurse had indeed given him a puppet, something small that he would be able to work with. He ushered the nurses to leave the room in which they said to make sure that if he needed anything to yell. Valpula did not need anything to confort him right now, he needed to train, and he noticed that the nurses here seemed to be so hell bent on making sure that he was ok. Valpula was fine because he had woken up, but there was nothing that they could do, he was blind in his right eye and he needed just to train his puppetry. Alone in the room now Valpula would try to connect chakra strings to the puppet first which was going to be a feat in it of itself. As he first try to make the connection he had forgotten how to have chakra connect to his hands and then to the puppet's itself which was a problem. He knew that before he was in this coma he was able to do it so he assumed that he would be able to now, but he just needed some time to practice. For a few hours he was at it trying to get the blue to connect the puppet. At first it was hard becuase it appeared as though his chakra pool was trying to recharge itself from the coma because with every attempt he got further and further to the puppet. At first he was able to get the blue chakra threads to only go a few inches away from his fingers. Every little bit was huge until just one time he finally was able to do it.
It may have only been one thread on the puppets head, but it was holding and it was strong. He was not able to move the puppet with his hands, but the thread was there, and it was a big win. Although it held he had to let it go, as it seemed to have drained all of his chakra in doing so, as expected as he was not storing chakra in his coma state, he needed to recharge and reinvigorate his chakra pool with more sleep before he tried again. Although he did not want to go back to bed after just waking up he had to before he passed out the desk. Valpula realized that at this point he was going to pass out again if he did not get some sleep, so he took the cane to get him back up from the chair that he was sitting on and used it to hobble back to his bed, get under the covers and the sheets, and then put his head on the pillow. He thought it was going to take a bit for him to fall asleep, but he was out in a matter of seconds. He was up for a long time doing more work then what he did in over two years, and his body needed the rest.
Valpula then woke up and spent the next few days training a bit a getting up out of his room and into the surroundings he was living in for the past two years. He had gotten full fuction back of his arms feet legs, and head in this time and he was about ready to go out of the confines of the hospital for the first time to go out and see the world. He wanted to go the location of where his parents were to see what had happened to it and see if any sort of emotion was exhibited inside of him. Even now after many days being up he still was yet to feel any emotion at all from any of the experiences he had. Although there was not alot of time for him to enjoy expereinces as there was plenty of work to do out of the confines of the hospital. Vretyel understood just how odd that was to be a ninja without and use of enjoyment for emotion. He knew stories of how some ninja in the past were trained to live without them but this was not the case. Instead of training to get rid of emotion Vretyel had just lost the ability to. Over the days of rest and training in the hospitial he came up with a theory that the explosion worked to destroy the part of the frontal lobe that cuased and creatied emotions in the body, allowing for him not have them as it was destroyed. He could remeber feeling the emotions before in his life but he could not feel them now so that was the best explanation. Did the poison that his family was working on do that to the indivudal, was the poison meant for Valpula? He did not know and (obviously) did not care about it, he needed to look forward and in the now of the situation, something he could not do if he looked through the troubles of the past.
Over the past few days Valpula had gone to the training grounds located inside the hospital to get more mobility and strength in his body. He decided that one day he would focus of running and the next would focus on strength, until he equaled his abilities before the coma he decided he was going to stay in the hospital. In the days that Valpula worked on strength he took weights and walked around the hospital with them, doing some daily chores for free to help gain muscle function and ability back. This would entail him working in the kitchen doing dished, moving boxes of materials and goods to desired locations, or just helping people to there rooms. Most of the people just knew what Valpula wanted to do with out the use of words because he just went in and did them, probably assuming that he was just thanking them for their work for keeping him alive, but Valpula could care less about the gratitude. He had lost two years of his life and mobility in his body for the nurses and doctors not moving his body for him while in the coma, and this was the only was he could stay in the hospital and train. Valpula noticed that he did not need to have a gym or a training ground to work, all he needed was the ability to do work to train, and there was plenty of it in the hospital. In the days and weeks that past he was able to gain a system and routine way of doing things, regular chores that the nurses expected him to do now every other day, and with each passing day he increased the wight amount he was wearing on his arms and legs. At night right before he went to bed he would do works on his abs and legs but doing squats and sit ups in his room, using the time to gain those muscles strength while winding down for the night. HE would then get ready to go to bed and then work on his chakra training by moving the puppet around more and more each day. He could feel his body slowly regenerating chakra and control over it, so as the days past the strings would become stronger and more numerous, allowing him to do many functions with the puppet. After a week of training he had the strings attached to the puppets arms, fingers, legs, and head, allow him to pick it up the puppet and have it flow in the air. The blue chakra strings became what they were when Valpula was before his coma, which even Valpula considered to be a feat beyond his imagining.
When he would do speed training in the hospital he would use the corridors and the vast labyrinth that the hospital created with his wieghts. Although some of the corridors were quite crowded most of them were not used at all, probably thinking that if they over populated a hall it would be more efficient and cost effective to only have a few areas working instead of the entire hospital. It was the ones where there were no people is the training grounds that Valpula wanted. There he would be able to do long distance running through the corridors and then sprinting and reaction time by marking certain rooms to stop at given points. This gave his brain an workout but also his endurance during a fight. Although he was probably going to be standing still through the entire fight as a puppet master he would still have to move around and have the endurance to keep a fight for a long time. All of this training would allow for him to work more around the hall. He would continue his training after a few weeks by putting weights on his arms and legs to give him so added resistance, increasing the weight sizes through every trip of training. HE would then end his day by doing the same thing that he did before that, by doing puppet training to work on his chakra.
Without going outside for the entire time Valpula would be able to do all the training that he needed but he knew that he would not last for ever. Even after a few weeks of being up a running and running even the nurses thought that it was going to be best for him to be leaving in just a few days. He had gained all the mobility that he needed in order to survive the world of being a ninja and he noticed that staying in the hospital would start to impede his abilities in just a matter of days. He had decided that he would take just a few days more to get ready and find a place to stay without ryo, which he was able to find with the help of his parents former prestige. A man who had known his family personally would give him some ryo to make an apartment avaiable to him under the little income that he had. This was something that Valpula noticed was a good thing from his parents, he was made partly famous from his parents and it gave him privilege. He had to remember that his parents were the best poison makers in the entire sand village and that gave them some credit.
As he walked through the overcrowded hallways and corridors of the ever so popular Sand Village hospital Valpula went out of into the small plaza inside the courtyard. It had been a long time since Valpula had felt the sand on his body and his feet, something that he could not remember from his past, but from when he was feeling now, he noticed that he hated it. He hated the feel and the heat of desert that he did noticed that he didn't want to be outside in the desert any more. No matter, he didn't care, he knew that the life of a ninja would mean that he would be in the sand for a long time on end, so there was nothing he could do about it. He looked out at the sand courtyard for just a few minutes before going to back the comfort and sand free hospital.
That was something interesting about Valpula, all of the memories before his coma are still intact, but for some reason all of them have lost meaning. Sure he remembers many times in his childhood playing in the sand of the desert, and he remembers how warm the days were and how cold the nights became. He remembered all the times that he went to the academy and all of these other memories, but he could not put any meaning behind him. Now with his entire life restarted Valpula decided to put all of that behind him and just not think about it because it all seemed too futile for him to handle. Valpula only remembered one thing from his childhood that he knew he still had to complete not only for his sake but for the sake of his parents. He knew that his parents scarified everything to become the greatest puppet masters in the world, and if it wasn’t for them messing up with one of their new poisons they probably would have succeeded. Valpula would become an even better puppet master than either of them, but fate lay waste his dreams too. Now he was just a blind ninja with nothing, no family, no friends, no purpose, except only to fulfill his goal of becoming the best puppet master in the world. He would surpass the powers of even those of his ancestors and the ones before him to become the most dangerous ninja in the world.
Valpula realized first out of his coma that he was going to have to train his immense chakra pool so that he could use it all to hold multiple puppets at once so that he would be deadly with even more than ten puppets that he could use. Valpula decided that the outside was too disgusting for his taste and he walked back into his room and sat down on the desk that he was given. It was surprising that the medical professional at the hospital kept him alive for so long with nobody to come and really care about him. Although he remained silent, he learned from the doctors passing through the coma that not one person came to give him any comfort or support during this time he was in a coma. Valpula knew little about life, only that he was nothing in the eyes of all, and there would be no reason to prove them wrong. All of Valpulas puppets would do all of the work for him, killing anyone that thought otherwise, and to him death was just another event. Today he just sat there and looked at his puppet for a bit, knowing that he would have to give that back to the nurses sometime later that day, and he would notice that although he had made a connection with the being, he did not care about letting go.
After a few days Valpula went to the apartment that he was giving, hoping to never go back to the hospital again, and now move on with the pathetic life that he was given. His parents had left him with almost nothing but a good name, and now Valpula needed to train in order to survive in this world. He went to the training grounds that same day and found an open area where he could work on his speed, allowing him to run long distances without many obstacles or objects in his path which is what Valpula wanted for now. He started off the day early and then used the weights that he was given to from the hospital to use as more training. He ran for endurance for one day, running through the open barren field with ease and gaining strength in his leg muscles to work harder and move faster when he had them off. Although he did not know why (with absolute certainty) why he could not feel he knew that one of the benefits of it was that he could not feel pain in the slightest bit, this allowed him to work harder without the need to stop. If Valpula noticed that he needed to take some time to rest because he had gone over his limit then he took some time to rest and do some other sort of speed training. He would take the weights off and just work on reaction time, randomly throwing kunai and objects and hoping that they would land in the position he needed them to be in. Although he only had one eye as a ninja he had to see his entire surroundings, so he worked to make sure that he had the most vision possible, and found that he only had a slight blind spot on his right side that could be easily mitigated with turning his head. He would have to turn his head a lot more now, seeing as though he had to move around a lot to see, but he did not care, and he noticed how still he did not need to wear anything over his eye because he looked like a normal person. People would look at him in the eyes and not know that he was blind at all.
Going back to training he would work on increasing his speed by not using the weights and trying to work long distances before having to rest, with each passing day his speed was getting faster and he could hold the time longer, a testamate to show that his training was working. He knew also that he had a lot of other work to do, as a ninja he would have to do missions if he wanted to survive, but that would take time. and effort indeed. After a few weeks of training he was finally ready to go back into the world and restart his ninja career. Valpula Yi had been reborn a new ninja and a new man, but honestly, he could care less about it all. He left the training grounds that day knowing that he would have to do the same thing again in the future.

When Valpula had woken up from the coma that he was in, he was not the ninja that he was before.
