Atop an imposing building, Paul sits in a contemplative position, with his legs crossed and his hands folded over his lap. His eyes remain shut, as he focuses deeply, taking large breaths in, and releasing them with a sigh. As he performs this odd meditation, Paul focuses his chakra to the core of his body, before emitting it outward in wavelike bursts. The intention of these bursts is to pick up upon and return any chakra which they may encounter back to Paul’s mind’s eye, so that he may effectively sense the presence of foreign chakra. Though, from fifty meters up, on the roof of the building upon which he sits, not much can be picked up upon anyways due to the minuscule range which Paul’s pathetic version of the skill reached.
Thus, this was why he sat atop the building and continued to spam his sensory waves outwards: in hopes that through monotonous repetition, he may somehow acquire a bit more skill with the technique. Though, for the past two hours Paul has been sitting in this same position, and spamming the same jutsu over and over again, and the range of the technique has not increased by a sliver, nor has its effectiveness in sensing. Perhaps the fruitless results of this tedious training were linked to Paul’s ambiguous, nonchalant attitude. Never before had he dedicated himself to such silly things as training, for he had believed that his own natural abilities would be enough to carry him through his life as a shinobi. Yet, as time passed, Paul began to realize how wrong he was.
So today, Paul resolved to begin a new cycle of training; today he pledged to embark on the quest which would lead him to becoming a better shinobi. Alas, even as he sat here and supposedly trained, his mind wandered to other matters. Too much weighed on Paul’s mind for him to truly focus on his training, which was a pity, seeing that without true focus, he would never get anywhere in his pursuits. No matter how hard he attempted to clear his mind of the distractions bogging him down and preventing him from making the most of his training, Paul could not accomplish this feat, and thus sat thinking rather than training his sensory abilities.
The reason why he had chosen this jutsu to train, of the plethora of techniques which he could have picked from, was because of its vast strategical usages. With the Chakra Sensing Technique, Paul could pick up on the presence of enemies all the more quickly, thus warning him of threats to come. Also, should his senses ever be clouded in any way by some sort of technique, Paul would possess the ability to continue his battle with nothing but his chakra sensing capabilities. Finally, a good grasp on the Chakra Sensing skill would allow Paul to track his opponents, allowing him to complete his missions with the utmost efficiency and effectiveness; ensuring ideal results. As hard as Paul wanted to train this technique to its full effectiveness, too many of his problems clouded his head for him to get any sort of productive task done. Such was the case any time Paul attempted to train, and thus he had long since given up on the foolish activity.
Yet, right now Paul felt a pang of motivation which he had seldom felt since he was just a boy, and he figured he should make the most of this sliver of motivation while he lasted. Thus, Paul resolves the classic method used for clearing ones’ head. In his mind, as he sits and continues his structured breathing, Paul runs over the events of the day, careful not to leave out any minute detail. Through recounting each event with the utmost descriptive view, Paul would certainly be able to pinpoint what was bother him and purge his mind of it. Therefore, as Paul sits, he begins to play back his day in his mind, creating a mental film of sorts.
First, he had woken up as he did on a daily basis, rolling lazily out of bed and dragging his sore and sluggish body to the shower. After bathing in water with temperature liable to scald most normal people, Paul then took his lazy ass back to his room, where he promptly got change. On this particular day, Paul had thrown together a simple ensemble of casual cargo pants, combat boots, a black hooded sweatshirt, and, of course, the mask which he never once took off, not even in the shower. After doing this, Paul had then walked into his kitchen and consumed a nutritious breakfast of pop tarts. Yes, just pop tarts. After then brushing his teeth, gathering his necessary equipment, and exiting his home, Paul went on to ascent to the rooftop of the large building in which his apartment was located.
Often times-or as often as he trained, which was, in fact, not very often at all-Paul liked to train atop this building, for it brought him a sense of peace and serenity that he did not feel anywhere else in the village. Often times, down below, either the civilians, or the other ninja like him caused some sort of disturbance to his training, as it was no secret that Paul was easily distractible. Having grown sick of the ruckus which the masses insisted on causing down below, Paul had resolved to training on top of his roof, where he was fifty meters above the endless chaos below amidst the bustling streets of Amegakure no Sato.
Unable to pinpoint the origin of where something had gone wrong in his daily routine, Paul reverted to his previous method of simply spamming his technique and calling it training. Though, he had drawn his mind from the task at hand to focus on his daily routine for a short period of time, Paul had continued to pulse chakra through his system the entire time, not even having realized that he was doing so. With this, Paul’s absent minded, continuous spamming seemed to pay off to an extent, as Paul could feel that the radius of his sensory technique had increased by a little bit. Paul approximated the new range of the technique to be a good twenty meters longer than before, and thus it appeared that all of the chakra which he had been expending had not gone to waste.
Paul could now feel the people within the perimeter of the illusory circle at the center point of which he is perched on the roof of the building. It was astounding really, the magnitude of such a seemingly simple technique. Paul’s increased radius would certainly prove to be strategically useful in the future. Finally feeling as though he had overcome the hump of his training, and that he could accomplish even more, Paul manages to somehow exterminate all thoughts from his mind, and channel all of his focus into the technique which he is training.
Straining harder and harder as he grits his teeth and lets out a low growl, Paul pushes excess amounts of chakra from his body, which returns a numerous amount of foreign chakra signatures within this highly populated area. Thought he strain on which the propulsion of his chakra takes a toll on his body and energy level, Paul can feel the radius of the technique slowly but surely expanding as he pushes harder and harder. As sweat begins to pour down his face, a sharp pain shoots through Paul’s body as he struggles to maintain control of his body as an immense amount of ethereal stress is placed upon it by his forcing of the technique.
Finally, Paul reaches a breaking point, and collapses from his composed position, lying on his back on the ground. Such a strain had the training put on his body, that Paul can hardly move a muscle, let alone get up and walk all the way back down the flight of stairs to his own apartment. Though, while the training itself may have been painful, what they said about no pain no gain was certainly true, and Paul felt as though he had improved the technique which he desired to improve to the highest level which he possibly could. Even as he began to dose off on the ground, Paul could feel the effects of the newly trained technique, as if he had become so accustomed to using it that it was passive.
Paul’s new range with the Chakra Sensory Technique now extended to fifty meters outwards, and he could even identify the exact number of people with a chakra signature whom he sensed. It was truly an amazing ability.
Without further thought, Paul falls asleep on the ground, taking a break from the rigorous training schedule which seemed to push his mind and body far beyond their limits. Soon he would wake up and repeat the process again, but for now, he rests.

Having been taken to his room by a kind stranger whom had found Paul lying passed out on his roof the night before, Paul now awoke in bed, immediately recalling the events of the previous day. He had slept soundly throughout the remainder of that day, and throughout the following night as well, and he felt a great deal older just awaking from this deep slumber. Though, Paul could not even deny, he felt a great high from the sensation of training so rigorously. Though it pained him to so forcefully expend such large amounts of chakra, the sense of accomplishment which he gained from such hard work certainly made him feel good. Perhaps this was simply because Paul had never been one to work hard; not once in his life.
Rolling out of bed, the floor rushes up to meet Paul with a thud, and a pained groan escapes his lips upon impact. Sluggishly lifting himself off the floor, Paul repeats the routine which he followed the previous day. Shower-dress-eat-leave. That is just what he does.
Upon exiting his apartment building into the ever active streets of Amegakure no Sato, Paul surveys the crowd, resolving to revert to a more active method of training than the simplistic technique spamming which he had engaged in the day before. Not only was that method more difficult, but a lot more boring and less practical; when would he ever get the chance to sit, meditate, and sense his opponents amidst the heat of battle? With that mindset, Paul begins to walk through the street, weaving in and out of the large mob that traverses the streets. As Paul walks, he focuses his chakra as he did when he was meditating, though doing so proves to be a great deal harder while walking and remaining active than sitting dormant on a rooftop.
Paul utilizes the sensory capabilities which he had improved upon the previous day as he walks through the streets, attempting to decipher each individual mass of chakra from its neighbor. Alas, attempting to do so proves fruitless, as the immense number of individual chakra signatures functioning independently overwhelms Paul’s mind’s eye, and it is impossible to distinguish one mass from the seemingly identical mass adjacent to, in front of, or behind it. Breathing deeply and slowing his pace slightly, Paul manages to put his mind slightly more at ease, and he is able to distinguish new minute differences between signatures which he had never noticed before.
As simple as it may seem, Paul only just begins to realize the clear differences in shape and size between chakra signatures, as they take on the regular form of the human body which they lie within. Though, while Paul now has a way to differentiate between signatures based on the structure which they appear in, rather than in deformed, misshapen lumps of ethereal blue energy, Paul is only able to differentiate between a large mass of chakra signatures as well as he might be able to differentiate between a large mass of strangers which he has never before laid eyes upon.
Though Paul has found some sort of distinguishing characteristic which he may utilize to a degree, he knows that he is still missing out on the essence of the technique. Paul is sure that numerous ways exist in which he might be able to distinguish between chakra signatures, and identify even more specific properties about them. This perfection of the skill is what Paul truly aims for it, and thus he continues to aim for this goal as he walks through the streets and continues to sense the individuals in the crowd before him as best he can.
Deciding to vary his tactics a bit, Paul decides that it might even be a bit more effective for him to choose a specific target within the crowd and lock onto that individual, while continuously sensing his chakra and seeing if he can keep tabs on him while weaving through the crowd. At first, Paul chooses not to challenge himself too much, and picks a morbidly obese man who waddles his way through the streets with legs the size of tree trunks. Paul cannot help but snigger at the sight of this hopeless loser.
Due to the pathetic speeds at which the man is moving, he should prove to be very easy to track indeed, and Paul makes simple work of it. Somehow managing to keep tabs on the man’s own individual shape as he walks, seeing that it varies greatly with the relatively slim or moderate figures of everyone else in the crowd, Paul follows the man on his daily errands, nearly all of which consist of trips to fast food joints. No wonder the man was so fat.
Feeling a bit more confident in his abilities following his stalking of the fat man, Paul now chooses a more difficult target upon which he may be able to test his newly improved abilities. This time, Paul settles for a group of young children who sprint through the streets, screaming loudly and causing a ruckus. Due to the youthful speed at which they are moving, and the casual speed at which Paul is trudging, they create more distance between them with each passing second, and as Paul focuses all of his chakra into his Sensory Technique, he sprints after the children while keeping tags on the shapes of their chakra signature.
While Paul gets a bit more of a workout from pursing the children, and they are a bit harder to track due to their more regular shape, and their great speed, they do not prove to be insanely difficult to locate through their chakra signatures alone. Though these kids are harder targets than the obese man whom Paul was previously tracking, they are nothing very special, and Paul’s sensory skills have improved even since then, and thus keeping an eye on them is no ordeal.
After the kids run off, Paul searches for a final way which he can test the effectiveness of his newly trained Chakra Sensory Technique, and he resolves to return to the roof of his building and try his previous method once more; just to see if he has improved.
The walk back to his apartment building takes Paul a solid twenty minutes, due to the distance which he ran from his house chasing after the little hoodlum children. Once at the building, Paul simply traverses the wall through use of the Surface Walking Technique, and after a solid fifty meters of walking straight upwards, Paul then finds himself at the top of his own apartment building. Once more, Paul takes up his position in the center of the roof, but this time standing, and he forms the ram hand seal to better focus his chakra and thus improve his sensory capabilities.
Upon the implementation of this technique, the range immediately stretches much further than it ever did before, reaching lengths that Paul never even knew he could sense for. The perimeter of the area which he can now sense is one hundred meters, and through his extensive practice on real, moving targets, Paul has even discovered the ability to not only count, but differentiate between different chakra signatures. Paul also finds himself with the ability to sense even the slightest of disturbances within one’s chakra system, which proves to be yet another strategical use for the technique. If ever applied to a battle situation, Paul would easily be able to tell whether or not one was under the influence of a genjutsu due to the disturbances in his or her chakra.
With this whole new plethora of nifty skills unlocked, Paul once again feels the high which accompanies hours upon hours of the most rigorous training imaginable; such as what Paul has working on all day.
Stumbling down the stairs and back into his apartment from the roof, Paul finally collapses on his bed upon reaching the bedroom, thoroughly exhausted from the long day’s work which he put to good use today. Though extremely tired from the expenditure of great amounts of chakra for two days in a row, and also with sore muscles due to the first time running in a long time, Paul rolls into his bed and curls up in a ball. He wants nothing more to do right now than to sleep.
While feeling accomplished, and also having gained a great deal more skill form these two training sessions, Paul has used up the last minutes of his momentary motivation on all of this training, and feels utterly leeched of initiative to do anything else of use. Seldom does Paul ever even want to get out of bed, yet alone train as rigorously as he has been for the past couple days. As a result, the motivation which comes to him every once in a great while has indefinitely disappeared once again. Not that it matters anyways, for Paul has gotten everything which he had been planning out of these two brief sessions, and training can resume some other time. No doubt, being a chunin, he would be made to train again at some point anyways.
