Tears mixed with the rain
Sat Jul 19, 2014 9:05 pm
The building was dismal. Since Seig had long since fixed the power station for the village the lights were still working but the rain and the fact that some lights and things were off made the empty building just somehow emptier. So far so good he had yet to hear the patter of running feet. But it was really scary in here. Seig took a deep breath fear was a pointless emotion and he focused his mind on removing his hesitancy. Walking forward he searched the bottom floors. The place was abandoned like the rest of the town but this place was falling apart. He had not been able to clean or take care of the building like he did the rest of the buildings in town. Rats skittered as he opened doors to various rooms. Spider webs clung everywhere making Seig uncomfortable. He had no idea why this building presented so much fear for him to battle. But he had to push through. Exploring the lower levels of the building Seig made a mental note on everything he was going to have to do. The rooms were cluttered with animal waste and some rooms even the dead bodies of various wildlife. He also made note of decamping food and waste in the kitchens and several offices that had enough security to keep the animals and insects out. Being he had nothing better to do he decided to work through the night sweeping cleaning mopping and shoveling all the waste into convenient trash receptacles that would empty everything into the dumpsters outside that if Seig understood the wildlife would probably be empty. Working tirelessly Seig cleared floor after floor of all refuse and cobwebs and any hint of the encroaching nature of things. However He knew that this wasn’t going to be enough. He finally reached the top floor of the building and was finally somewhat satisfied with his work for the day. It took a while to walk home but Seig didn’t know how safe it would be to sleep in that building. As he lay down to sleep for the night he knew he was probably going to go another 3 days without sleep to make sure that the last building in the village was properly cleaned and disinfected and shored up against the wild.
The next day though he slept late Seig returned to the building to continue his work. Luckily some cleaning implements were untouched in a maintenance closet and Seig focused on purifiying the building, bottom to top. Once it was clean the nine year old scoured the village for supplies to repaint and refurnish the building as well as seal up all the holes in the building where the wild animals were getting in. For the most par the building resources still worked. With the power plant working the water main was still supplying the village with running water but many of the pipes had burst or rusted. He had fixed his many times in the other houses but this building had quite a few more pipes. A few days again the building would be in tip top shape as the paint would be drying and the caulk and glue permanently sealed the holes up. Insect repellant and rodent traps rid the place of pests not too long afterward. Borrowing some furnicher from the other houses in the village Seig was able to set up another home in the big office building. Just because he had made it inhabitable didn’t mean that he was done with the new building. After resting he was sure to read every scrap of paper and every book in the building. He spent weeks sorting through the classified documents and information in the building. With his intelligence and the resources at his fingertips he was able to even break all the codes that held the especially secret information. He understood everything.
The records were there and now even though he was sure he would never mourn the loss of his family he now knew what had happened to everyone and why he was the only one left in the village. Apparently the leader of the Amegakure village had been doing experiments with coordination with the Edolas clan to reopen the paths between. The experiments required an incredible amount of energy to open the lock and the final record said this
“The Path’s between will be our final frontier. We will pass through the gate to other worlds and using the Edolas’s “magic” We will be able to colonize and create a new world. The entire village will be left as it is in the capable hands of” the paper was torn here and the next page was unreadable. The final exerpt that was readable was… “The preperations were made precisely but something went wrong. The gate that opened was not like the doorway we thought it would be. It was hungry. With the last of my strength I am writing this. DO NOT TRY TO REOPEN THE PATHES BETWEEN.”
“So it all been an accident” Seig said to himself. It was some experiment that had gone terribly wrong. It had taken all the villagers and left no one but Seig. None of the information held in this building or even in the entire village had answers for why he was left. Seig swore that he would gather this information and somehow someday he would be strong enough to know why and maybe be able to find out what had happened to his family and his village.
For now he would reestablish this village and begin negotiations with the other villages. It seemed very surprising that in these past years that no one had even visited the village but that meant nothing. Now that the village is alive again Seig knew people would come. Even if that meant he would have to defend himself. If he was able to gain allies his dream would last longer. Using the codes he had learned he would send messages to nearby villages that had once been allies to the village hidden in the rain.

The building of the Amegakure leader had sat still for days as the lone fox Kouen had sat vigil over the village by order of his brother and partner, Yaju, to keep tabs on it in the event of someone trying to take over Kumogakure property. During the days that the fox had been overseeing the village he laid a numerous amount of traps due to his fox like nature to prevent nosy people or intruders from coming into the building itself, most of which were only wild animal sounds and the occasional sightings of what would be people or specters which warded off unwelcome company...as for today not so much.
Through the glass of the office someone could be seen walking towards the building, the decision on whether not it was friend or foe was still unknown to the fox, but as a precaution he had already been ready for such a task as fending off nosy people. The fox himself had simply hidden his presence from the individual, his traces being unknown to the person for as long as Kouen wanted it to happen.
When the boy known as Seig finally arrived to the office, Kouen assumed the form of a ten year old male with silver hair and yellow eyes within the shadows of the bar that had been in the office if the boy had carefully observed his surroundings before hand. At first glance the body of the fox would be unable to be seen due to his ability to hide himself, but once the boy had turned his body to the desk to send out messages to all of the villages Kouen had struck.
Around the desk and the boy blue fire would erupt around the boy at the speed of 80, faster than the boy could perceive," What a curiously stupid boy you are to come into someone's possession and assume you can do something with it...who do you think you are? ," the voice trailed from the shadows as the full form of the fox boy trailed out, all nine of the tails being in view as he stared through the fire and to the boy.

After Seig had finished all his work he returned to the offices of the late Kage to try to do some official business. Suddenly as if from nowhere flames blue in color flashed around the desk surrounding him. The heat was enough to make him step back away from the fire. Cornered, Seig turn to his aggressor calmly. It seemed to be some sort of fox boy. Seig could see that his power was great but in his life very little would actually intimidate him. The being spoke and accused him of trying to possess what did not belong to him. This was obviously confusing to Seig. He didn’t know what the Fox demon was referring to being Seig in his whole life never believed he possessed anything. Then again since the village had been empty for so long and because it was only recently that he had first entered this building, Seig assumed that this Fox spirit was haunting the Kage’s office. Seig had read many stories about ghosts and spirits who were always portrayed as being scary. But the concept never made sense to Seig being the stories always ended with the spirits being troubled by something. However Seig would be polite to the being as it had been the first he had ever seen in many years and he wanted to draw out the conversation a little to enjoy the company.
“Hello. I am Seig Edolas. From what it seems I am the last remaining resident of this village. From the information I’ve gathered the inhabitants were all absorbed in a jutsu of some sorts gone wrong. At least that’s what the reports said. I’m all alone here too. Who are you?”
Seig had grown to be a very patient boy. As he had grown up tending his crops just outside of town and taking care of the village was all he really had to do in the past 4 years. That and read books. So there was nothing he could think of that he was in a hurry to do. Even the fire that surrounded him seemed to burn in slow motion as Seig waited to a reply from the fox.

The fox that would once be seen outside of the ring of fire would instantly be seen one of the furthest corners of the desk away from Seig, observing his movements in the event that the boy would attempt to try something. Of course the fact that the boy would be unaware of his own surroundings made the older fox assume that the boy was nothing of a newborn which made this a bit less fun than he would have wanted it to but none the less he would gather what all he could before giving the report to his friends.
With mild content the fox would laugh before shaking his head at the boy's naive thoughts," You really are a small child aren't you? This villagers here weren't absorbed by some deranged jutsu they left. Furthermore this village is owned by Kumogakure and what you are trying to do here is not in lines with my master's plans for this particular village," the yellow eyes of the fox continued to stare upon the boy as he withdrew his name form the conversation and continued to question the boy. The fire had continued to burn around the two as Kouen stared at the boy," I do not see how some kid was the last one here when we checked through this village, but that is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things....he will be notified of this and the final say will come from him...or her which ever one....more importantly why are you in this building?," the fox's eyes never left the boy as he continued to question he reasons for being here.

It mattered very little to Seig how accurate the reports were that he had read. For all He knew the reports were simply a ruse to throw off any intruders to the real whereabouts of the villagers should they come in and read the completely uncoded, not hidden reports as Seig had. It kind of made sense except for one small flaw. Why if everyone had left had he been left behind. Seig didn’t have the answer to that question that he had been asking himself for years. He thought he had found the answers but it seems that the false information, meant that he would have to keep looking.
But the fact that the village was owned by another town was news to Seig. That also made no sense. If this village was owned by another town why was it going to waste? Why had he never seen anyone else? “I apologize I didn’t know that anyone even knew of this village. I have been here for so long without seeing any one. I have been the one taking care of this town for years that supposedly belongs to someone else. I live outside of town where I grow my own food and every day I come to the village to try and keep it in good shape. If your master owns this town I do apologize for being here but this is all I’ve known. As you can see I have taken care of everything that your master owns while he or she was away, not unlike the Stewards in the story books I’ve read. It seems that I’m not speaking with a ghost but a sentinel who watches over this place much like I do. If it’s not your master’s wish that this village should see life again then it is my duty as the keeper of the village to follow those wishes. I meant nothing by my being here other than to restore my home. To tell you the truth I’ve not talked with anyone in 4 years, could I ask you your name Sentinel?”
The heat from the fire caused Seig to perspire but he remained calm and open. Seig was curious who this fox owed allegiance, and who had claimed this empty town. Seig was constantly aware of the hole that gaped in his knowledge of the world. The more books he read and the more time he spent learning only to learn that he only scratched the surface of knowledge. But Seig knew for some reason that this fox didn’t trust him. That was the new puzzle. Why was Seig such a threat? He wanted to cry but he had told himself he would never cry again over such insignificant things. So he just simply continued the conversation.
“Am I in trouble for some reason? Or is it your orders to detain anyone you find, cause I’ll sit patiently while you contact your Master. I’ve never really left this place so it’s not like I’m going to run away.” Seig wasn’t sure how far he would get if he even tried. The fox seemed unusually angry for someone who watched over the place. He must have a good hiding spot because Seig hadn’t seen him for the last week that he had been working on the building.

It had been a full week since the fox had said anything. The flames had long since died out. Seig had sat with the fox boy for hours on end everyday wondering what he was doing. Unfortunately he couldn’t wait around forever. The village needed tending to even if the Fox had said it belonged to someone. It was still Seig’s home. Every moment that he wasn’t washing or cleaning of fixing electrical shorts in town he would sit and wait for the temperamental fox to speak. He had even taken the time to repair the damages done to the building by the fox. He had a long time to think about the fact that someone else claimed domain of the hard work he had put into this village over the years. Even if they owned the village as it’s only inhabitant and as the only person in the village it was Seig who ruled it. As he was alone in this world is was not beneath him to bow his knee to another Village but if he was not allowed to awaken these dead buildings with the life and laughter he missed he might go crazy.
In one of the many sessions he had with the fox that simply sat and stared, Seig asked it, “If your master does control this village why am I alone here. Why have I been left abandoned? Why would a ruler let his possessions rot away and decompose to dust? And why would this Master not allow me guardianship over his village? Does he believe me incapable of taking care of the town? Is there some value he finds with this town that he cannot allow it to be passed into someone else’s care?” Seig had asked a lot of questions to the blank wall over the years. He knew the sound that unanswered questions made. He thought maybe he would finally be able to make a friend that he could speak with after all this time. But as the sessions drew longer and still the silence insisted, Seig began to devote more and more time into his daily work. Even if this Fox claimed someone else rightfully owned the village, Seig still had a responsibility that he had taken for himself. He was in charge of the town, at least until the fox woke and explained further or its master returned to claim it.

[>.> thanks for trying to wait until i had my stuff back (btw i put up a notice saying i was away but its cool)]
The fox blocked the boys area of escape, putting the blue flames up against the door and windows before turning into a more older appearance," Leaving before a conversation has even begun pisses me off more than a kid that does not know its place," the older fox now realizing the boy knew nothing of this villages standings nor why it was left like this made the fox feel sorry for the boy, but then again pity was something the creature gave to no one.
The boys final question made the fox laugh as he laid on the desk still staring at the boy," You are but a mere child in this world barely off its feet and you think you can run a single village? Surely you jest if you think that my master or his leader would hand over this village to a mere boy. This village has a higher purpose than you would imagin and that is why it is currently inhabitable, so for your inquiry of trying to take over this village....your request is denied. So you can have the choice of waiting until their plans are complete or leave...the choice is yours," with that he sat up on the table and waited for the boy to respond.

Seig knew more than the Fox thought he did. He was young but with nothing to do but read and work for the past 4 years he had more maturity than most people twice his age. And he had more knowledge in his head currently than most people 6 times his age. He also had the foresight to treat this fox with respect and dignity. However the fox had shown nothing but disrespect towards him. He wasn’t sure he wanted to meet the master of such a creature. However Seig also knew his limits and his limits pretty much ended at negotiation. But it seemed no matter how much he gave to the fox it wasn’t enough. It wanted unconditional surrender.
Seig somehow remembered a time in the village when everything was peaceful. The Village was full of people then. His clan had been a major part of the village’s research and development team. They were the scientist that helped develop the power structure and various other things for the city. Regardless of what the fox said he knew that at the very least his clan had not abandoned him. Something had to have happened. And at this point Seig wasn’t sure how much he could trust this demon as he was sure it was at this point. But something in what the fox said reminded him of the documents he had read. They were full reports from the previous Amekage. This fox must have been referring to the deal the Amekage had made with the land of lightning.
“You don’t know me. I’ve done more for this village than very few before me has. I will keep this village alive. And if you work for whom I think you do the agreement was that Amegakure would be a part of Kumogakure but would retain their power and leadership. Worr Terumi may have let this village fade. Why it was, it doesn’t matter to me. I am the last citizen of the Village hidden in the Rain and therefore it is my obligation to keep this village alive. Now Run and tell Yaju Hayate or the Raikage whom I assume you serve, that the Steward of Ame Is here. I’m not going anywhere. You may follow through with your plans for the village all you want. As your subordinate I will make sure things run smoothly on my side. I am not taking control of this village away from Kumogakure. I am merely upholding a bargain that was once struck between us.”
Seig’s shy innocent demeanor was not getting him what he hoped. If this Fox would not treat him as a person worth listening to Seig would change to his grown up demeanor. He no longer cared what the fox’s name was being he hadn’t mentioned it before, though it may be Kodomorashi as it was recorded in the records of the fox that guarded the Kumo party when they had met with the Amekage all those years ago. Seig had plenty of knowledge and experience. He could run the village if Kumo upheld their end of the bargain to help protect it.
Seig waited now standing tall looking the fox square in the eye. He would not be intimidated, he couldn’t be. Everything that mattered to him was here and the Fox didn’t care one bit about it. It thought he was weak and stupid. It thought he was too young to be able to be in charge of a ghost town. It didn’t matter what the Fox thought or said as he was already the one in charge by elimination. He took care of the village while the Fox sat up here watching. Seig had given away his childhood and his time for this village. He had sweat and bled for it. He wasn’t a child anymore.

The look on Kouen's face was nothing more than the look of amusement as the child who was once timid tried to grow up in a matter of moments and stand his ground which had made the fox chuckle for a moment before raising of his tails and wagging it in the air. The fact that the boy brought up the arrangement between the two villages, however the boy had no idea just what he was speaking on. At that moment the fox would shrug and scratch his head," See this is where you are wrong. This agreement was only between this human Worr so long as HE and he only maintained a vigil on his own village. However the events that lead up to this village's untimely silence is what gave Kumo full reigns over this place and its dominion," the fox however would stop his sentence there and try to figure out how he would say his next sentence without sounding like he was going to kill the kid if he defied the law of the land.
" Once again the bargain was only between the previous amegakure leader and the raikage...however that doesn't mean that some young kid like you can just come in and think you can make something happen when you barely can grasp the concept of this villages downfall. If you were the so called "steward" of Amegakure then you would have helped your leader when he was killed neh? Or maybe when an unknown intruder came in and assaulted him...if you cared so much about your village then you would have done something correct? Yet you didn't and here you stand thinking you can do something now? This is what is wrong with you humans...you overstep your boundaries and think you can do something," of course the fox paused and reeled in his small distaste for humans and their ideals.
He pondered for a moment before falling silent and staring at the boy although in his own time he was sending a message to one of his younger siblings that would relay the message that someone was in the village and trying to do something with it. Leaving out the small bits about him getting angry which would no doubt cause a bit of an argument between him and Yaju, he finished the message within seconds of him falling silent and continued to look at the boy before standing on the desk and smirking," Its a shame that the man was killed before something could have been done with the other issues, but this works all the same. Anyways, as a child and an orphan of this village you won't have any authority in this area unless he deems otherwise, but as for something else you can speak to him yourself. I don't know why someone would leave a boy like you here, but you got the short end of the stick shorty," shrugging he would remain standing on the desk as he closely looked at the boy.

The news that the Amekage had been killed by someone didn’t surprise Seig. Though he had no Idea why the Fox thought he would have been able to do anything about it back then especially if he didn’t know about it. He had been too young then and it wasn’t then that he had any responsibility in the village. He had been the one to step up after everyone was gone. But what amazed Seig is the Fox seemed to not care about what Seig said. The Fox continued to assume the young boy was trying to wrest control of the village away from the Kumo leader. Seig didn’t bother trying to argue with the animal. There really was no point. Seig sat and pondered his situation. History is written by the victors. As Seig was not powerful or even gifted in the slightest he wouldn’t be allowed have a say in history. When this creatures master shows up he would likely be exiled or imprisoned or worse. It mattered very little how much work he had done for them when it came down to it they probably wouldn’t even reward him.
Seig sighed and watched the fire burn and flicker, the blue light was hypnotizing and Seig imagined the chemical compounds that could make the fire blue. He had read books on chemistry that were in his families laboratories. But since it was somehow created by the fox he imagined the compound was probably organic. The simplicity of the notion made him wonder why he had so adamantly tried to own the village. He felt like the village was a part of him. He had spent an awful long time here. all of his memories were of fixing the village. He had rewired the entire power plant so that the village still had power. He had rebuilt the building in the center of town that had fallen down in the storms that were frequent. Truthfully the village would probably be nothing but a pile of rubble without him. But none of that mattered to the fox that only saw him as a kid who was young.
Seig ruffled hair and breathed a smoky breath. Coughing slightly he remembered all he could about his parents. His father had been the one in charge of the research division of the R&D department. As much as he was involved in the wellbeing of the village he was a loving father. He remembered multiple occasions that his father had brought back toys for him to play with, and how his father and mother would hug him. His mother was a Doctor at the hospital. She specialized in diagnosis science helping with the most severe cases. Many times over the years that she was gone Seig had missed her when he got sick. But he was able to just wait it out and he would heal from it. After reading many medical books he was able to devise some helpful cures that got him through the bad times. The fox didn’t know what it was talking about. His family hadn’t abandoned him. He hadn’t been left behind. But Seig decided from here on out what he knew he would keep to himself.
“You know, you’re wrong about humans. The reason we control the world is because we overstep our boundaries. The reason we become powerful and that we have collected so much knowledge and wisdom, is because we push back when someone says we can’t. We free ourselves when we are enslaved. It’s human nature to push the boundaries. And look what it’s gotten us.” Seig spread his arms to indicate the entirety of the room and the technology around them. “And you’re wrong about me too. I don’t claim the right to the village. I claim the right to my pride. That is something you can’t take from me. I don’t have to own, control, run, or have the village for this to be my village. Regardless of what your master says I will remain to take care of MY village. If you were smart you would stop treating me as an enemy and start treating me as an ally because I never gave you one reason to mistrust me.” Seig watched as the fire slowly began to destroy the room that he had worked so hard to refurbish.
Seig touched his eye. The smoke must be starting to get to him because his eyes were starting to tear up. He wiped it with his sleeve and scooted back away from the flames again. He closed his eyes hoping that would help a little but the pressure was still there. Seig wondered what the fox was waiting for. Now that he thought about it there really was no reason to set fire to the office unless for some reason he was going to hurt Seig. “You might want to put away your flames. I don’t know about you but it seems to me that you’re doing more harm than good and I think we’ve made it past the intimidation phase. I’m not going anywhere.” Seig hoped the Fox’s master was more up to speed than the fox was.
