Amidst the Downpour
Sun Nov 09, 2014 5:17 pm
Altar stood at the gates of Ame, looking around. He saw no people. Was he not supposed to be here at this time? Was there something he had missed? No, no, he had gotten this down to perfection. There was no reason to not be here now. Perhaps it was okay if he entered? And so he would, his hands slightly up and in view, so no one would think he bore any weapons.
Altar walked into Amegakure, seeing nothing but... well, nothing. The place seemed to be an effective ghost town, rain and all. Altar was walking through the small village, and noticed that he seemed to be correct. He saw no people, run down buildings everywhere, lining every alley. The entire village seemed poor and broken, and the grey skies above and rain didn't help much.
Altar was decked in discardable clothing, all things that could be torn to shreds and lost to the air in the form of smoke from fire. His boots had no treads, and his hands were covered by black gloves. He had come with peaceful intentions, but knew the dangers of the world. The rain falling would mud and cover where his feet had been, leaving no tracks at all.
Seeing nothing still, he proceeded further, to the Leader's chambers. There, an idea would strike him. He would start to dig through the various cabinets and drawers there, searching for any documents that had dates on them. If he could find a date, perhaps he would know when people had been here last. From there, he could form a timeline, and...
And he was getting ahead of himself. He was rooting through things in the chamber of the leader of the village, considering there still was one. He hadn't found evidence of any recent activity. That, combined with everything else, made Altar assume that this was an abandoned village. He would walk over to the seat of the leader, sitting himself in it, mulling things over, He could watch for activity, and if there was none, he could become the leader of this village. He could make this place something. He could return this place to glory. He could work with any villagers and shinobi that would join him, and turn Amegakure to a running, breathing, thriving village again.
But then Altar remembered just who he was. He wasn't fit to lead a village. He was a small, weak Genin. Who would want to follow him? They would more likely overthrow him than join and follow. He would need to be more powerful, more easy to follow, more fear inducing...older, more and more things piled into his mind. And so he made a new decision. Before standing, Altar would grab an assortment of letters and such from the desk of the leader, as well as the ryo.
He would make himself feared. He would display power. He would show people that he could be followed. So, Altar walked outside in the rain, called down Tenebris, and looked for people. After seeing no one there, he would tell Tenebris his plan.
"Tenebris, this place is a ghost town. It would seem i've been on a fool's journey in this endeavor. I would take over here, but I am not fit to lead troops, much less an entire village. But I cannot bear to see what could have been stand here and degrade more. I want this place destroyed. Perhaps another village may settle in it's wake, and they may prosper in it's place. But for now, this place is a waste." Altar would say, motioning around. Tenebris would nod, agreeing with him, and moving to knock down the buildings. The rain was falling harder now, and it would mask the noise quite well. Altar would stand close by, looking on and watching for intruders on the progress.

Altar heard the low rumble of Tenebris starting a swing at the base of a crumbling building, and something dawned on him.
"Tenebris! Stop. We...should not do this. We are not monsters of men, we were sent on a mission of peace, we will return from a mission of peace. We cannot judge this place simply on a small part of observation. As strange as it may be, this place may be someone's home, crumbling and falling as it may be. Now, come. We have what we need and want from this venture." Altar would say, motioning the dragon down. He was sure that the poor drake's wings were tired, so from here he would move on on the ground level, aside Altar.
"Are you sure this is the correct decision, Altar? We could lead this place to a new era, or we could tear it to the ground and await new growth. We could make this place something besides ruins of a past decade." Tenebris would say, looking to Altar with a slightly confused look on his face.
"Yes. My logic was...flawed. Besides, we may return one day, when we are both stronger, and we may do what we planned. We may make this place something greater yet. But we are too weak now." Altar would say, casting one last look behind him to the ruined, collapsing village of Amegakure. Perhaps this was for the best. Everything in it's time, after all.
And then Altar had an idea, biting his thumb to draw blood and pushing it to the ground, Altar would summon Maya, looking to her as he continued walking.
"What do you want?" The girl would say, somewhat hostile. "Where are we? Why am I out on a downpour? Why did you summon me?"
"Calm down. We're in Amegakure, leaving. I...had a brief fit of mind. But i'm better now. And I summoned you because I wanted to talk to you. Is that so bad?" Altar would say, smiling at the girl as she raised her hands above her head to cover from the rain.
"Amegakure... that reminds me, I have a place I need to take you. And you just wanted to talk to me? Altar Shinkou, are you hitting on me? This is a crappy place for a first date."
"Well, that oughta be interesting. And second date. You tried to kill me on the first one, remember?"
At this remark, Maya would look down, somewhat embarassed that she had still lost control of herself at their first meeting. It had been a spar organized by Haru, and Maya had gotten too into it. But that was in the past now.
"Oh, don't be worried about it. We're past that. Friends now, hopefully." Altar would say, looking at Maya with a smile.
"If you say so...so..." Maya would say, trailing off before turning to face Altar, standing on her tiptoes and nodding her head slightly back "Am I gonna get a kiss on our second date?"
"...Maya, you suck the life out of men, and you're kinda my summon. And you're a major tease. AND I...already have a girl for me." Altar would say, a grin marking his face as he and Maya both broke out laughing. With that, Maya unsummoned, along with some grumbling about her hair getting wet and telling Altar to summon her once he got back to Tenga and where it was dry.
And with that, Altar started off, realizing that he still had the various letters and such from the desk, as well as the ryo. Tucking them in his coat, Altar would start moving a little faster, only after checking for activity with his Byakugan, and seeing nothing.
