Rasengan For ehlandreh
Fri Dec 26, 2014 9:13 am
Ehlandreh woke up. “huhuhuhuhh” Breathing fast and shallow he rolled out of bed, landing on his face on his rice mat floor. “Rghh” He shifted again, now more desperate, and crawled towards his doorway, which he pulled himself up on, ran to his kitchen, his mind in too much disarray to bother too Body flicker. Ehlandreh arrived in hi kitchen, and was tearing open another coffee bag, while simultaneously emptying his coffee strainer and setting the stove alight to boil the water. Ehlandreh poured the coffee beans into the strainer. Now all he had to do was wait. And wait…. A whistling sound filled the room, an Ehlandreh lifted the kettle, and poured the water into his strainer, pulling hard on the knob to extract as much of the heavenly caffeine as possible. Now Ehlandreh could think a bit clearer, as he breathed in his soon to be coffee, he body flickered to his fridge and withdrew some milk. Running back to the strainer, Ehlandreh poured the mixture of coffee out into a mug, Ehlandreh’s left hand then came up and poured the chilled milk into the hot coffee. Ehlandreh back flipped, back to his fridge and grabbed out a frozen box of noodles. Body flickering back to his stove, Ehlandreh withdraw a pot from a small cupboard that was directly underneath the stove. Placing the pan quickly on the stove Ehlandreh turned the gas up to high and lit it. Ehlandreh quickly produced oil from a pantry that was underneath the stove, in the same place as the pot’s. Quickly pouring the highly flammable liquid onto the pot, Ehlandreh used body flicker to go back to his fridge and grabbed out an egg. Smashing the egg swiftly against the table edge as Ehlandreh bent down to grab some seasoning and bacon that he had put in the pantry to defrost last night, Ehlandreh threw the entire lot in there. And drank his coffee. The perfect start to any morning. “Now the only thing that would make it better would be for a travelling circus to come by and entertain me…” Ehlandreh thought to himself, as he slid onto his bench and sipped his coffee, watching his egg carefully for any signs of possible burning. “TRANATRANRRAAA” The sound of trumpets pierced the early morning, and Ehlandreh felt like someone had just cut him. “What the..?” Ehlandreh looked outside his window to find a long line of caravans, all brightly polka dotted. Mot of the mburst open into large tents, crushing up against houses on the tight road, in some cases jamming up doors, so that they would not open. The caravans in the middle, by coincidence right in front of Ehlandre’s house, folded together, like pieces of a puzzle, through some marvel of engineering. The caravans in the middle had transformed themselves into one giant stage. On the stage there were a few props, a log a wind turbine and a dead, and cleaned, pig. The tents that had clogged up the road were all named with a common theme. The first word was always an adjective, and described something exciting, strange or dangerous, the rest of the titles of the tents were presumably whatever was featured inside the tent. “Strange beasties of deadliness or Amazing feats of excellent acrobatics” They all looked quite interesting, and Ehlandreh felt that, after finishing his coffee, he would very much like to peruse the tents. So Ehlandreh finished up quickly, almost not noticing that a small fat man had walked up on stage and was talking about “Christmas sales” and such things. Ehlandreh had a bad feeling that the travelling circus was far from a free establishment. True to his suspicions, when Ehlandreh tried to enter a tent he was asked for a sum of money, money that Ehlandreh did not have. “Damn.” Ehlandreh said as he left the tent. Considering that all the tents were going to be the same, and the most interesting thing about the man on the stage was his giant hat, which was quite boring as well, Ehlandreh decided that he would be best served just going home and enjoying the rest of his morning. Despite all the trumpeting and increasingly tempting offers of a full access pass. And suddenly it all came to a stop. Alll the trumpeting and the announcements. Ehlandreh had not been following the long winded advertisement, but he could distinctaly remember the last thing him saying was “I now present to you” Ehlandreh had just assumed that he had meant another new offer for a full access pass. But a door below the stage was opening, and a man climbed out. He was tall and somewhat muscular, wearing a grey tattered singlet. The circus was in absolute silence. A dreadful feeling of anticipation rose up in Ehlandreh and he knew that whatever was about to happen, it was going to be important. The man took a fighting position, facing the log and brought his two hands together “Rasengan” he shouted and one hand started making rapid movements over the other, after a few seconds of this, he leapt forward and extended his arm at the log, and hit it with his palm, the strange ball of blue light still in his fist. The moment it connected it blew the log apart, splinters flying everywhere. The man put his hands on his knees and bent over, panting. He started the same pattern as before, and started powering up whatever Jutsu that was. This time he walked with the recently created ball to the wind turbine and made it blow by holding the ball near it. He then walked to the pig carcass, and sliced a piece of meat off of it, and threw it onto the street. There was applause everywhere, as he finished his act by smashing the carcass with his “Rasengan”. I could hardly believe it. I had heard of the Jutsu before, but I hadn’t actually ever seen it. It was reputed to be very difficult to master. This man “Dorn” must have been a Shinobi before, otherwise he would have never, ever been able to do that. The technique was rare to come across, and there were very few scrolls detailing how to master it. And suddenly Ehlandreh had to know how to do that. He had never wanted anything more in his life. Ehlandreh waited and drunk at least a dozen more coffee’s while watching the show finish up for the day. A quick question to one of the performers, a bored glowing man, told him that they would be moving to the very outskirts of Kumogakure. Ehlandreh packed coffee beans, his strainer, mug and four sets of clothes, all pretty much identical, to follow the circus.
A few hours later.
The circus came to a stop, some of the caravans moving up to get prime positions around the gigantic camp fire that the short fat man had ordered to be created. The performers danced, ate and sung around the fire, enjoying their free time. Sitting apart from the main throng was the “Rasengan” man, Dorn who was talking to what looked like a very big bear, which actually turned out to be a woman. Which Ehlandreh gleaned from her ladylike speech. Ehlandreh had crawled from the outskirts of the caravans to now quite near the center, he was currently positioning the bulk of his body behind a tree. There was just one more hiding spot between Ehlandreh and Dorn, which Ehlandreh planned on using to better listen into any conversations that he had. As Ehlandreh was about to make the first step towards the potential hiding spot, a small dip in the ground, he was put into a headlock and thrown backwards, then grabbed around the torso and thrown, right over one of the caravans and into the dirt. The physical strength to do that must have been enormous. Ehlandreh rolled backwards, trying to get on his feet, but collapsed again, kicked back onto his stomach by a firm boot. “What are you doing trying to sneak up on me… Boy” a rough voice growled somewhere near Ehlandreh’s head. Ehlandreh knew that it was Dorn, and he was terrified, and explained himself immediately. “Please Mr. Dorn sir, I have come seeking knowledge about your technique, the Rasengan” Ehlandreh said very quickly. Dorn straightened up. “It’s just Dorn, and you can go and impale yourself on that tree before I’m going to teach another Genin my jutsu.” Ehlandreh looked at him confused, “you’ve taught other people you’re Jutsu?” If Ehlandreh was going to be completely honest with himself, he really did not want to learn the Rasengan from this stinky old man, and would have rather learnt from one of his pupils. “Time was I used to teach every Genin who came to me.” His voice took on a sad, soft tone. And then he turned on Ehlandreh again “But what would you know” he snarled and was about to walk off again. Ehlandreh tried to stop him with a hand on his shoulder, but Dorn shoved him into the dirt. Ehlandreh got back up. It was time to go big or go down. Ehlandreh’s opportunity was closing. “If I beat you, will you teach me your jutsu?” Dorn just laughed. “I already beat you, boy” Ehlandreh’s voice lost its tremble. “Try me.” Something in Ehlandreh’s eye caught Dorn’s attention. “Okay BOY. I’ll teach you. And you’ll die. If you are lucky you won’t make it past the first stage.” Dorn sneered at him. Ehlandreh relaxed his arms, which had been wire tense only moments ago. He had been prepared to use any Jutsu necessary to stop the man before him. “We start training tomorrow, I won’t tell anyone if you decide to back down.” Dorn added as he walked away.
Ehlandreh settled down on a nest of soft leaves a few feet away from the group of caravans, content with meagre sleeping arrangements.
A bucket of cold water splashed over Ehlandreh’s face ruining his hair, which had so carefully folded before he went to sleep “Wake up Boy! Time to start training” “pfttbbh! Wha..” Ehlandreh said to the person whom could only be Dorn. “It’s Dawn…” “Damn right it is!” now get up! Ehlandreh got up, spitting more of the cold water out of his mouth. Groaning, Ehlandreh got up from his lying position and onto his knees, reaching towards his strainer. And then something happened in his vision that made Ehlandreh blink a few times. It was incredible! A moment before his strainer had sat on that patch of earth. Now a dirty boot was pressing hard into it, mashing its heel, like it was crushing something. Ehlandreh took a quick look around him for his strainer, he really desperately needed it, if he was hallucinating this badly. But it was nowhere to be found. “Excuse me Dorn have you seen my coffee strainer?” Dorn made a bark of laughter and grabbed Ehlandreh by the arm, forcing him up, and away from the caravan camp, towards an enormous dip in the ground, about 50 meters away “You can have your coffee later, come on.”
Ehlandreh stumbled down the steep sides of the valley, the only reason he wasn’t falling at the pace he was being towed, was ironically, the man whom was towing him. He was using some sort of jutsu for maximum pace down the side of the rocky terrain, his feet were stuck firmly into the ground, and he just slide down, while Ehlandreh, whom was not wearing anything, had to endure every scrapping rock and twig as he was half dragged half falling down the cliff face. It was a relief to get to the bottom, very serene. Strange mists clogged up the top of the valley, and you couldn’t see what was going on in the above world. Ehlandreh couldn’t even hear a sound. Dorn patted Ehlandrreh on the shoulder to get his attention. “Here” he passed a water balloon to him. Ehlandreh looked at Dorn questioningly, and decieded that what he did was for the best. Splash. The water balloon hit Dorn straight in the face. “Rghh!” Dorn wiped the remnants of the plastic balloon off of his face, and snorted the water out of his nostrils. “Now is not the time for games boy, I was about to recall my instructions when you threw the water balloon at me. Mess around like that again, and I will categorically refuse to teach you.” Dorn said with upmost coldness. Ehlandreh still felt justified in what he did, after all, he had taken an entire bucket of water over his face. Dorn passed another water balloon to Ehlandreh. “ with the water inside of this water balloon, I want you to inject your chakra into it, however much you feel is necessary, that is a measurement for you to find, and make the water inside it roll around in your hand, in a perfectly even ball, without popping it. Understood.” Ehlandreh nodded and started concentrating. He imagined the water in the balloon moving around. Ehlandreh tried to keep it in an even ball, but soon the balloon popped because Ehlandreh had used too much energy. Dorn made a quick observation “you need not one current in the ball, but as many as you can. Several individual concentrations going on at the same time, and once you can do this, do it faster. And with more. And more. Then, and only then do we move onto the next stage.” Ehlandreh gasped at the difficulty of the task. This was going to be hard, harder than anything he had ever done before, Ehlandreh began to realize. Dorn put down an enormous bucket, full with water balloons. “If you can’t achieve it by the time you run out of water balloons, you never will. When you are finished I’ll come and get you out of here, until then. Bye!” Dorn said with malicious cheer, then he turned around and slid back up the Cliffside. Ehlandreh, sighed and grabbed a water balloon out of the bucket and started to practice the technique again. “Moving the water around in the balloon, round and round, in a tight sphere, as many individual currents as you can….” Ehlandreh could only ever seem to manage one. As soon as he started to work on making another one, too much of his concentration went into it, and the first dissipated into it.
Ehlandreh stood, shivering cold, and exhausted in the humid and silent valley, the accursed cloud of mist obscuring the sun and any kind of warmth. All the wood was too damp to burn. Ehlandreh had actually given up on doing the Rasengan, and was busy trying to find a way to escape the valley. He had tried climbing it, but it had proved useless. Dorn had used some kind of Jutsu that made the walls of the valley prone too small landslides. It was impossible to get a foothold anywhere, and just as you felt like you were making progress, it turned out that you had been kneading the same dirt with your feet the entire time. It was unbearable. And Ehlandreh was running dreadfully low on water balloons. On his last attempt he had managed 3 different currents, but they had also ended up distorting the water balloon until it popped as well. Now Ehlandreh only had three left, and he had a feeling that he might need them, because they were literally the only water source he had in the valley. Ehlandreh thought about his situation. He had very little chance getting out of the valley, it was a half circle, and he just couldn’t climb out. Digging himself out wasn’t an idea either. Dorn had said that when he completed his task he would know and come to fetch him. Ehlandreh decided that all of this practical work was far too much for him. He was never much good at that stuff anyway. Ehlandreh settled down, took his mind of all the problems affecting him right now. His stomach. His feet. His thirst for coffee. His tiredness. All that was left was him and the water balloons. How to create a multi current ball that won’t pop. All that current means. Is movement. Dorn did not specify what type of movement it had to be. Ehlandreh was thinking of a current in the wrong way. As a force that was found in the sea. The same way that Ehlandreh was thinking of escaping in the wrong way. Climbing the walls were no good, it just would not work. To escape, Ehlandreh would need a different kind of movement. Admittedly, it was one he could not do, the jutsu required doton. But if he applied the same theory to the water balloon. Ehlandreh got up, grabbed a balloon from the bucket and used a different kind of force, a sharp, sort of windy feeling, to make the water spin. And it worked perfectly, there was no kind of distortion at all. “First stage, complete.” Ehlandreh said to himself, smiling. Immediantly, a sliding sound came from behind him, and Dorn arrived looking somewhat surprised. “only four others have ever made it this far. Congratulations, here is some food, and supplies, and your next task.” Dorn held up bag full of balloons, presumably filled with air. Do the same thing till you can maintain the ball inside one of these without popping it.” With this brief congratulations he sped away again, leaving Ehlandreh feeling perplexed. “But first” said Ehladnreh to no one in particular “time to eat” Ehlandreh fed himself on the food that Dorn had brought. It was bread, cheese, rice and fish, with a sprinkling of soy sauce. It was pretty good. Ehlandreh sighed at the lack of coffee. “Gotta make do, I guess…” Ehlandreh said briefly, and opened the bag, grabbing a one of the balloons. The small and pretty balloon looked quite pleasant, Ehlandreh had little doubt that this task would prove easier again. It didn’t 14 balloons later and Ehlandreh was in the same state as nearly 4 hours ago. Ehlandreh was no having to move around air, which was proving much more difficult. He had managed to have dozens and dozens of individual currents, but always one distorted the balloon until it popped. Ehlandreh saw now, that before he was just mastering the basics, getting familiar with the technique required to perform the Rasengan. Now he actually had to control it, perfectly, make sure that it didn’t ever pop. What was worse, was that there was another three steps after this, until he could do it. Only one student of Dorn’s had made it passed this step, according to a pleasantly phrased note that he had inserted into one of the balloons. Ehlandreh realized that this task was not about figuring out how to do it. I was just about being able to do it or not. And if Ehlandreh was completely honest with himself, he was not sure that he could. The first stage had been nearly lethal for him, and this next stage was proving every bit as hard. Except that there was no clever way out. Ehlandreh might have just consigned himself into a deathtrap. And so Ehlandreh used that awful oath, which he had sworn never to use again. Ever. If he did not complete this task, he would never go back to drinking coffee. Crying with anticipation, Ehlandreh picked up the second last water balloon and sobbing at the terribly high stakes, begin to mold his chakra into it. Ehlandreh felt along the sides of the balloon, feeling the pleasant buzzing within it. This was his one shot, if he didn’t complete it on this one, Ehlandreh knew that he was never going to recover from the loss of his coffee. It was the most terrible risk that Ehlandreh was taking, but every time he had used this method, whatever he had wanted to achieve had happened. Admittedly even brushing his mind with the thought of no coffee was painful for him, and he didn’t like doing this to get what he wanted. Ehlandreh concentrated, and realized something. He was so concerned that the ball would pop, he was precisely maintaining each individual current to the point that he wouldn’t even have time to focus on his target if he was using a Jutsu like this. It was completely impractical, it couldn’t possibly be really like this, or otherwise anyone whom was using Rasengan would have just been killed on the spot, because they did not have the time to so much as look at their target. “Trust the Jutsu” Ehlandreh said to himself, and just started to make more and more of each individual current. And the ball balanced itself perfectly, the faster it was spinning the more balanced it was, and the tighter. Ehlandreh could not imagine a rogue current popping the ball the way it was right now. “Stage two complete” Ehlandreh said concealing his relief that he would not have to ban himself of coffee. Dorn appeared once again “Great Job boy, you are almost halfway there!” he said, with surprising enthusiasm. “This is my favorite part of the process to learning the Rasengan, it’s called “power”. He threw a small rubber ball to Ehlandreh. “Pop it using the technique you just learnt, here Is a spare just in case. And remember, you’ll only be able to pop it using the Rasengan, you don’t have any other Jutsu in your arsenal that can do it, trust me. It is one tough little ball.” And Dorn left again, every bit as swift as before, leaving the same meal as he had before. Ehlandreh jumped into the food, every bit as starving as last time. Ehlandreh patted his full belly and jumped into his next task, this one would hopefully be a bit easier. The black rubber ball was really bouncy, and as promised, extremely tough. To experiment with it, Ehlandreh tried several ways of breaking it. Each time he was met with zero success. ‘the Rasengan it is then” Ehlandreh said and he started on trying to legitimately do the task. He had no success there either. Ehlandreh put everything he had into the “power” of the Rasengan, and had managed to distort it a little. Ehlandreh soon realized that he needed to put enough into the Rasengan to distort the ball, but then also he needed to spin the chakra at a speed that would pop it. It was proving extremely difficult, finding a balance of the two. The past two task’s had been all about the “control” but this was about the actual application of it, or at least, the preparation for the application. Ehlandreh sat, the ball wobbling menacingly around on his palm, but he was still no closer to achieving it. It was about midnight, and Ehlandreh felt that he was getting close. He had managed to sustain the power to the ball for a while now, and he had begun to pick up speed. Ehlandreh had realized that instead of catapulting the current of energy in a little, circle trying to bludgeon the way out, what he really had to do was expand the rubber ball from the inside. He had started to rotate the energy faster and faster, in a sphere, and then expand by speeding it up. “BAAM” the little ball exploded in Ehlandreh’s hands, nearly cutting them open from the speeding pieces of rubber “Ouch, task three, owww, complete.” There was the same sliding sound and Dorn arrived, looking impressed. “Good job boy, I am severely impressed. But now for the cool part. When your hard work.” Dorn gestured around the valley “becomes your greatest achievement.” He holds up his hand and creates a spiral, like a semi formed Rasengan. “Do this, and we can continue. I will personally inspect you here, until I am satisfied that you can do it. Begin!”
Ehlandreh for the first time, did not know where to start. So far, Ehlandreh had always been told what to do. Sometimes he had to figure out the solutions, but this time he was given a task without an inkling on how to do it. And so, in earnest, Ehlandreh begun. Ehlandreh gathered his chakra into a little ball on his hand, and experimented with it, trying to recreate the whirlwind shape that Dorn’s took on. All the while Dorn watched unfalteringly, not even blinking. The pressure was starting to get to Ehlandreh. He hadn’t managed to create anything that made any kind of mark on the environment. And Ehlandreh simply couldn’t think himself out of this mess. And all Dorn could do was smile calculatingly. The anger begun to boil up in Ehlandreh, and he tried a different technique. Use a whole lot more chakra. It worked instantly, and Ehlandreh slammed the result into the ground, creating a deep, spiral shaped furrow. Ehlandreh looked up defiantly at Dorn. Who merely said “you over complicate things, that was the easiest bit. This next one, though. It could kill you.” Dorn created the Rasengan again, this time putting it up to it’s full orb form. Dorn turned to Ehlandreh and said merely “do it” Ehlandreh looked back at the man he hated, and he knew without having to do it that he could. But he might as well. Ehlandreh thought on all that he had learnt, everything that Dorn had taught him, all the skills that bore a cost that he nearly couldn’t have borne… Ehlandreh held out his arm in front of him, the palm pointing at his face. With absolute iron hard conviction Ehlandreh stated quilted “Rasengan” and in his hand formed the blue ball, hovering an inch away from the skin. Ehlandreh, smashed the fully formed Rasengan in the same place as he had with the spiral. A perfect hit, the land was blown to pieces around Ehlandreh, but he himself was completely unscathed. Ehlandreh could tell that this was not what Dorn was expecting. “Now get me the heck out of here.” Dorn glared back at the student who had so dismissively disregarded the final step. “My pleasure.” Once Ehlandreh got out of the crater, he ran all the way home, back to his coffee.
