Learning Electormagnetic Murder
Wed Sep 21, 2016 10:00 pm
Komon was feeling pretty excited right about now. He had just completed his first official meeting as a genin, But he couldn't help but feel worried, during the mission he had been unable to catch up to a simple kid. The fact of the matter was that he had no ranged jutsu. He didn't want to be in a situation in combat where he couldn't hurt an opponent from a distance. If he was outmatched in close combat it might be the only way he could pull a win, or hit a retreating enemy. Komon decided he’d resolve this problem tomorrow with some training, it was getting late after all and he was exhausted. So he turned off his lights and got into bed.
When he awoke the next morning he decided the best place to learn about a ranged lightning jutsu would most likely be the library. Deciding to head that way he began to get ready for his day going about the usual morning routines of brushing his teeth taking a shower, and getting dressed. He decided hed go out for breakfast this time however as he was getting sick of the usual cereal, because he was craving waffles for some odd reason. So he began to head towards the grand opening of a new local diner.
The local diner was actually in the same direction as the library so he wasn't really going out of his way. Komon was growing increasingly fond of the village with the walks he'd been taking between all the training. He loved seeing all the people roaming around. He liked the fact that he was a shinobi responsible for protecting them. “I couldn't protect my own family.. But at least I play a role in protecting someone else's.” He thought to himself as he saw a family walk out of the diner.
Walking into the new diner for the first time, Komon couldn't help but notice how nice it looked. Everything looked brand new… probably because it was. As he was concentrating on the architecture of the building he heard a woman ask “Sir?” realizing he had zoned out and obviously missed the question she had asked he said “Sorry I didn't hear you.. Could you repeat that.” The woman smiling said “Welcome to the diner how may we help you” Komon realizing she was an employee asked if he could have a seat. The woman brought him to a table and handed him a menu. “Call for me when you're ready to order” she said. Komon didn't even look at the menu and asked for waffles before she had left.
When his waffles arrived Komon was very pleased. They tasted amazing and it was probably the best breakfast he’d ever had. After finishing he tipped the woman for her service and exited the diner. After walking a couple more minutes he turned the corner to the library. Hopefully his search for knowledge would pay off and hed learn a good ranged jutsu.
Walking into the library he walked up to the front desk, looking for the on duty librarian. Seeing none at the desk he decided he’d just look for the book himself. Looking from row to row he noticed the jutsu section was divided by elements. The first row being fire style, the second being water. It would be just his luck that lightning was the very last row. “Uuuugh” he thought to himself as he walked to the last aisle. The lightning style books were divided into ranks. There was a book for each individual rank all the way from E too S. Komon much too confident in his abilities to learn another E rank decided he'd kick it up a notch shooting above even D rank. He didn't want to aim too high however, knowing he was no where near ready for an S rank. So he decided on C and pulled out the book, and brought it to a table.
Upon reading the book Komon was presented with a variety of different lightning based ninjutsu, most of which were either short range or just not interesting to him. After close inspection he narrowed his options down to two jutsus. Komon was either going to learn lightning rod, or electromagnetic murder. Lightning rod was a short ranged jutsu where the user had to grab his opponent before he could even use it. The purpose of today's training was to find something he could use at long ranges however. So he decided on electromagnetic murder. Even the name sounded cool after all.
Komon read the description to himself. “his technique allows the user to create a wave of electricity from their hands. The user can vary its power from a small surge to shock an opponent to a powerful stream of lightning capable of ripping through solid rock. It is ideal to use in conjunction with a water technique.” Komon liked the sound of that, along with being powerful enough to split rock, it was also a ranged lightning technique that could be combined with water. Which happened to be his brother komoris main element. With the evidence given Komon decided he was without a doubt going to learn electromagnetic murder.
After he made his decision he headed back to the front door. Looking at the front desk he saw the librarian. “So now she shows up” he thought to himself as he walked out. The sun was beginning to rise as the day went on and it was getting progressively more hot outside. Komon wasn't a fan of the heat but it wasn't going to stop him from training. “Damn its hot though” Komon thought to himself. The walk took about 20 minutes since the library was further away from the training grounds then his apartment. But he eventually arrived at his destination.
Upon arrival Komon headed towards his normal spot. Getting into the groove of things he began to warm up with a couple of jutsu he had already mastered. Practicing kieren no jutsu in particular to get used to using his lightning style. After about 30 minutes of warmup however Komon decided he was ready to begin working on electromagnetic murder. The signs felt strange to him due to several new ones being thrown into the mix.
The one that gave him the most trouble was dragon. But after a couple minutes of repetition he got the sign down, and after about an hour of practicing the complete sequence he felt he could easily use it in a mission. Methodically he wove the signs Boar, ram, snake, horse, dragon. Over and over again until it felt almost second nature to do so. The movements were no longer foreign to him. Now confident in his abilities he decided hed practice the jutsu.
Feeling his prior knowledge of Kieren No Jutsu would give him an advantage at learning this because the jutsu were so similar. Taking a deep breath his hands rose and collided together naturally making the 5 signs he had spent the past hour or so practicing. Boar, Ram, Snake, Horse, Dragon. And like Kieren No Jutsu he sent a wave of lightning chakra to his hand. To his surprise however he met a different result when the lightning expelled from his hand than he had expected. Three things went wrong.
The first error he made was expelling too much, the sheer amount of power coming out of his hand sent him flying back in the air. He had vastly underestimated the power of this new jutsu. The second error was he had no control over the lightning and could guide it as it instantly spread out and dispersed. The third and final problem he encountered was that the jutsu was vastly more taxing on his chakra than anything he'd learned before. “So this is the power of a C rank jutsu” Komon was getting used to the whole idea of trial and error. It had become obviously apparent to him that ninjutsu was not an easy task to learn, and had begun to get better at identifying and solving his errors.
He decided to resolve the first mistake he made right off the bat. He spent the next thirty or so minutes just trying to get better control of his lightning style by using Kieren No Jutsu on a dummy. He hoped that by doing this he could learn to correctly judge the amount of chakra he should expel when using certain jutsu. And after the practice he realized he was right, he was starting to get a better idea on how to manage his lightning based chakra.
The second problem was slightly harder to solve. He had no idea why he couldn't control or guide the lightning. He figured he would have been able to relatively easily. He decided that the jutsu may have just been hard to guide because he had gotten knocked off his feet. And would solve the problem later if it continued.
The third problem, was more of an inconvenience than a problem. Komon couldn't really increase his chakra pool by willpower alone, he'd heard stories about how uzumaki, senju and uchiha clans, were famous for their large chakra reserves but unfortunately he wasn't any of the above. So he decided it was an acceptable truth that he was just going to have to live with. After all he was only a genin trying to learn a C rank jutsu of course it was going to be taxing on his chakra.
As Komon addressed every point he decided he was ready to try again. This time with a new understanding on how much chakra he should expel outwards. Almost instinctively he began to weave the signs yet again. Boar, Ram, Snake, Horse, Dragon, and with a loud voice screamed “RAITON JIBASHI” he felt the wave of electricity flow from his arm upwards to the palm of his hand and braced himself for the recoil. This time ready for the shock he was not knocked off of his feet and watched in amazement as the lightning ripped through the air in front of him, but also in disappointment as it seemed to fade after about 3 feet. He felt himself growing exhausted from the use of the new jutsu and figured he only had about 3 tries left in him for the day.
So he decided to set up a couple targets. Sticking standard kunai targets to the trees in front of him he took about 15 steps back before deciding that was a good range to start. Weaving the signs he performed the jutsu twice slightly improving his range each time but his lightning was still about 3 feet away from the target after the last shot. Still concerned with the problem and frustrated that he was unable to solve it Komon began to realize he only had one shot left in him based on the amount he was sweating and panting. “Ok focus Komon” he told himself. Looking at the target that seemed to be so untouchable.
Taking a minute to cool down and clear his mind before he tried again. “Practice makes perfect” he said as tried the jutsu one last time. Boar, Ram, Snake, Horse, Dragon. The signs where made perfectly and fluently without hesitation. Komon felt confident this time, and began to push his chakra outward. “RAITON JIBASHI” he yelled as he pushed his arm forward to guide the lightning to its target. He watched it crack out of his hand and soar forward towards the target as it shattered the wooden circle into pieces.
Komon couldn't believe his eyes he had just successfully performed his first C Rank Jutsu, his training was seriously starting to pay off. He began to celebrate jumping up and down and yelling out in joy before realizing he had used more chakra than he wanted to. He began feeling lightheaded and dizzy and fell to the ground, before he actually passed out in the dirt. “God this hurts” was the last thing he remembered thinking before he blacked out.
