A Growing Tree
Wed Mar 08, 2017 3:37 am
Sento was not a particularly social person, if at all possible he prefered to keep to himself, which worked out well for him at most times. But when training it made things a bit more difficult then he’d like, His brother seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth, and he couldn’t imagine that the ashi woman he had met earlier would be able to help him with what he was planning on mastering. It was a very particular ability not many people could train after all. Frustrated the young senju sighed. He had mastered both earth and water but there was still one more piece to the puzzle if he wanted to get what he had been working so diligently for.
As the morning rays of sun, pierced through his small bedroom window panes he stretched his arms wide into the air. Before pulling himself out of bed, and slipping on his shirt by pulling it over his snow white hair. As he finished dressing he looked around the small cramped room and his sense of adventure found its way to himself once more. He hated being confined to small spaces such as this and it was about time he got some fresh air.
With his sense of adventure revitalized he decided he would do his training not in the training grounds but in the trees around it. Hell if he wanted to learn wood release it probably wasn’t a bad idea to be surrounded by trees. At the least they could serve as a bit of inspiration, Sento recalled his training from Ashi just the other day when the creek had been so instrumental in helping him to learn the water element. It appeared connecting with nature helped the shinobi to hone the corresponding element. So it wasn’t a far fetched idea that the trees could help him in some way shape or form.
The senju gennin quickly grabbed the headband that he had lazily slipped onto his bed the night before exhausted from elemental training before rubbing the metallic surface with the sleeve of his shirt to ensure it still had its shine. Putting his konoha badge on his head felt kind of surreal, he had never thought he’d reach such a position in the village, but he was glad he had proved himself wrong, as he tied the knot to keep the Konoha emblem sturdy.
“Alright… I'm ready” He’d say as he walked out his front door and entered the busy streets of the village hidden in the leaves. Sento was tall, not just for his age but for a typical human being. 6 foot tall was a rare height to reach after all, and he could easily see over the majority of the crowd, and he could easily see the grass patch that was the closest training ground to his house covered in a luscious patch of ripe towering trees. “Yep, this is the spot” He thought to himself as he pushed past a couple people so that he could reach the wooded area.
“Sorry, Scuse me, Coming through” He’d mutter before finally making it past the mob of people and reaching the shade of the large wooden branches. Looking up at the gigantic oak monster he thought he was going to relate this to learning the water element. With water he could step in and physically feel it rushing against his feet. But with wood, well he couldn’t just sit there and let a tree grow around him now could he. “Oh boy” this was going to be a long day.
Then he remembered what he had learned about the water while standing in it. First he had learned that it formed to the shape it was put in and that it moved around obstacles, in other words it was fluid. It was at this moment that he realized he didn’t have to know how the wood moved as that was not the primary function of move, he needed to note its most important properties and then apply them to his chakra system, so that he could replicate the element.
To do this he decided to study the nearest oak tree which towered high above the small one story building standing adjacent to it. Sento not knowing the tree climbing technique at them moment would then grab onto the rain pipe and inch his way up to the side of the house until he was within arms reach of the lowest branch, before he reached out and pulled himself onto it with pure upper body strength. No chakra to assist him.
From looking down he guessed he was about 6 meters up in the air, and ensured that he was in a stable position on the wooden branch before he began to study the bark. The tree was a part of nature and had been there a long time, it was older than him and more sturdy, as he placed his hand against the bark he felt the rough grainy texture while his hand slipped down the surface. And then it clicked, where water had been fluid, and earth had been solid, wood was somewhere in the middle, a combination of the two would be required to bring forth the wood.
He smiled as he hopped down from the branch of the tree into the comfort of the grass where a simple roll alleviated him of the majority of the pressure gravity would have had on his body. Standing up he would brush the dirt off of his shoulder before he gave the wood chakra a try, he knew he wouldn’t be able to use any wood techs right off the bat, but when he had channeled earth chakra, his thoughts had become more fluid, and his body seemed to move with a bit of ease. He imagined wood would have some distinctive effects as well.
The young senju took a breath as he tapped into his chakra and imagined a young tree sprouting out of the ground as nothing more than a stem, the creation of life from soil water and sunlight.. And as he did so he felt as if his body was becoming cleaner, as if it was brand new, a smile appeared on his face as he realized he had gotten it down.
“I did it dad” He’d say as he put both hands behind his head as if to catch his breath, before he decided to walk home.
