It seemed the masked man cared not for speeches of grandeur to get somebody back into a fight. This was not some anime after all, that would just be silly.

Regardless, Komori was 18m away and filled with a less theatrical determination to see his friends and family once more. He knew he needed to give this his all. Once he noticed the wind tunnel forming through eyesight, or through hearing the strong winds of the tunnel forming, he altered his bodily composition to boost his chakra levels, speed, and reaction time. His artificial stats and drive to see his brother at that fork in the road were enough to shock him out of the state of dread that had plagued him for but a moment. His confidence returned, as Komori began getting sucked into the tunnel, he pulled out the true power of his trump card.

Five blades would form 10m in the wind tunnel towards his attacker, meaning 8m in front of Komori, at a speed of 220. These blades would be chakra based constructs of his own Tsubasa blade, carrying its dimensions. One would form center mass, with one blade on either side 2m apart from the center. One more would form 2ft from the center blade directly beneath in the event he thought a simple duck would save him. All blades were aimed with the tips of the blade pointing at his opponent; the blades would remain steady through the wind tunnel, as their power/health surpassed the strength of the tunnel. They would be thrown at a speed of 235, should the tunnel be canceled, but due to the wind tunnel, they would headed towards the masked man at the aforementioned speed of 242, 10m ahead of Komori himself. Once again, if the tunnel was canceled, they would continue their course at 235 speed.

It’s hard to make a shish kebab when the impaler is the one being impaled.

Madness is a funny thing. It creeps into the mind, dements one's thoughts, and alters reality. The sane becomes insane and the insane becomes sane. To truly know the depth of such madness one will invariably find that gazing from without is not nearly enough. Yes, to understand its depths one must immerse themselves within its heady ooze and allow it to permeate each pore until all semblance of sanity evaporates into the ether.

And Kushimaru?

Well, he was well and truly insane.

After Komori's blades jolted forward an inch, the roar of the wind tunnel tapered off into nothingness and an electric yellow aura began to replace the purplish one that had formerly wreathed Kushimaru's figure. Of course, the man did not wait for this new aura to expand to its fullest extent. No, he did not have time for that as he was already moving. With the blades having already traveled a single meter each, he darted to his right (250 speed). Slipping through the large gap between the centermost blade and the rightmost blade, Kushimaru advanced unharmed (250 speed) passing the blades as they traveled the first six meters of their ill-fated flight.

With Nuibari cocked back ever so slightly, he moved in for the kill on his hopefully still recovering prey. If all went according to plan the man would approach Komori from the right and thrust the tip of Nuibari right through his heart with all his strength and speed. Adding to the chaos, a mess of crackling lightning would encase the blade itself when it reached an inch from Komori's vulnerable body. And yet, the crackling of lightning was not all Komori would hear in his final moments if he failed to react, for Kushimaru cackled right along with it like the madman he was.

Komori could not believe his eyes. Never before had he seen such raw speed. Noticing that the wind tunnel had subsided and his opponent had started to dart towards the right, the Hozuki would start his contingency plan. The moment he saw the incredible speed of his opponent moving to the side, a thick mist would appear at a speed of 280, without the need for handseals, in order to obscure his opponent’s vision and make the battlefield a hot mess. Before Kushimaru was able to advance forward in the newly formed mist, Komori would half handedly sign the Clone seal at a speed of 170, causing two copies of himself to appear 1m in front of himself, meaning 16m from his opponent. As the entirety of Hidden Mist was composed of his chakra, chakra sensory would be all but useless. At the exact same moment, his alternate hand would sign the Boar Rat handseals under the cover of mist, activating a genjutsu that would take place within a 9m radius of himself. 10 copies of Komori would appear in the mist to the side and in front of Komori. Thirteen heartbeats sounded off in the mist.

Before Kushimaru was able to pass a single meter past the blades, Clonemori numero uno would take advantage of the confusion and charge forward at a speed of 100 to meet this opponent head on. He would be 15m away from Kushimaru at the start of his run. Komori stood 16m away with Clonemori 2 a single foot directly in front of him.

A bit of mist meant very little to a man accustomed to fighting without vision, could the same be said of Komori?

In a blink of the eye the entire world turned into nothing more than a swirl of white mist. All those trapped within its confines would find it impossible to see even an inch in front of them. Indeed, with his silent movement and muffled vitals, Kushimaru became a ghost and with Nuibari outstretched, leading the way he became a very dangerous ghost. Anything and anyone who stood in his way would find themselves impaled on his favored blade.

The symphony of heartbeats that now thumped around him would have perhaps thrown off a less experienced shinobi, but not this particularly one-minded maniac. He was now fully committed and charged ever forward towards his initial target. The clone that got in his way would meet its end against the tip of Nuibari like so many souls before it—it only made it four meters before meeting its demise. And so Kushimaru traveled ever onwards, silent and deadly, anyone he hit would not know it until the blade ripped through their torso, he had no plans to stop for anything. If the original Komori did not move he would find himself skewered through the heart.

The first clone that Komori had sent outwards into the mist did not seem to make it very far. Traveling 4m forwards at the relative pace of a snail, Clonemori A would find the needle blade piercing through his heart, dissipating as fast as he appeared, the memories and knowledge of this attack flooding back to the head of Komori.

He was charging straight forward.

Without wasting a second, the veins in Komori’s right arm grew larger and began a throwing motion as the Tsubasa blade formed at the speed of 195 once more, this time in his right hand. The blade would be released forwards based on the fallen clone’s last position, which was roughly 5m ahead of Komori. The blade would sail past the second clone, who stood a meter in front of him, having moved up slightly in order to intercept any attacks with a planned counter, his hands held in the Ram seal yet not performing an action yet.

The 220 power sword would fly forwards at a speed of 235 (same calc as earlier). However, this time the blade was much closer than the last attempt and found itself masked within the mist of the Hozuki. Twelve thudding heartbeats cried out as the blade sailed through the air, presumably connecting with the chest of his charging adversary.

Pain, glorious pain blossomed from Kushimaru’s chest and expanded outward into his extremities in a wave of ecstasy. Spurred on by his imminent death, the maniac zeroed in on his prey. He would kill Komori if it was the last thing he did. Each step brought him closer and closer, through the second clone and onto his final goal.

Nuibari lanced out in a flash of near untraceable speed.

Through the thick cloak of mist, the legendary warrior could only hope that he had pierced through the man’s heart. His blade hummed one last time as it bit through flesh for the last time with Kushimaru as its master. Nuibari made it one centimeter into the Hozuki before its master faded into nothingness, once more becoming one with his beloved mist. This was his element, his home, and now his grave.

There would be no body to find.

With no one to support it, the legendary blade fell and took a single right eye with it, Komori’s right eye. For all his precision and all his ferocity, Kushimaru’s aim had strayed as a result of the blade in his chest. Instead of piercing his foe’s heart, he had taken an eye and, in a way, it was better this way. Now, Komori could serve as a reminder to the world of a once legendary shinobi.

It was over. The insanity of the man that had almost claimed Komori’s life had taken a hold of Kushimaru’s frantic mind, driving him to keep striving on blindly, no matter the consequence. That drive brought him to his second death. But it was not without success.

The throw that Komori had performed had led to him lowering his head from the effort put into the killing blow. A nervous smile on his face cracked his otherwise stern gaze. The clone in front of him blocking his view as the sword sprouted from the masked man’s chest, although it failed to stop his momentum immediately. Komori looked up the only thing he could see through the mist, his clone’s back, as it was getting impaled. The blade pierced his clone, finding itself imbedded into the jounin’s right eye before his clone and his opponent disappeared altogether. He breathed outwards. The sword fell to the ground, his eye along with it as the mist dissipated from around him. Functioning solely on adrenaline, he looked down with his only remaining eye down at the blade. And cried out in pain.

Komori laid down in the sand holding the right side of his face, dried blood staining his cheeks. The sun had begun to rise, breaking the red of the previous night. He sat up in the sand, looking around for his opponent. The man’s body had disappeared, the only trace of his existence being the blade a few feet away from him. Komori grabbed the wrapped handle of the blade, his eye scanning it until it reached the point. He forced himself to pull his eye off the tip of the blade, turning it over in the palm of his hand slowly.

He slowly put it into his weapon’s pouch, unsure of what to do with the organ. Maybe Max or some other medical shinobi would know what, but for now, Komori just stood up, blade still in hand. He looked outwards towards the rising sun, with his remaining eye, his other remaining closed. Everything seemed quiet, aside from the throbbing pain.

Komon.

The Hozuki forced himself to start moving towards where he had left Tug, further down the shore. I promised him I would be waiting for him. He smirked to himself, letting out a small chuckle. Can’t seem like I’m backing out of my word now, can I?
