Mission: Trafficking [Solo] Empty Mission: Trafficking [Solo]

Apparently, whatever work Comstock had put in to help the relations between the shinobi and the citizens were beginning to have some effect. Today, a new mission was offered up by the committee to have a shinobi posted at the palace gates in order to assist with the direction of traffic. Certainly not the most glamorous of work, but it was the type of work Yuuma valued the most; the kind of work that brings along goodwill to the people he worked alongside. The kind of mission that gave Yuuma a chance to change somebodies mind about the shinobi, perhaps. For the first part of the day, Yuuma stood with Comstock in the town square before the boisterous man moved himself to patrol the market, and relieved Yuuma to the palace gates. Typically, one might expect the gateway to a palace to be imposing, barred from entry, or otherwise unapproachable. But the palace gates of Hoshigakure were something else entirely. A beautiful archway that would lead down a path decorated by vegetation and almost looking like a park.  Certainly, there was a healthy number of guard present, but not all of which remained out of the approach. Yuuma's small group, for example, numbered himself and two other Queensman who seemed well in favor with Comstock and likewise welcomed him without prejudice. Yuuma appreciated the opportunity and felt like, in some small way, his actions here would be looked at closely when it came to the relations between the two authorities. As such, Yuuma prepared himself for any manner of complication and prepared to exercise great caution when it came to anything that might seem troublesome.

Despite the fears that quietly nagged at the back of his mind, the day would greet him with a sense of normalcy. The early morning saw the farmers and early-bird vendors, then came the typical workman, and soon it would be rare to see an empty street. In the heart of the city and among the oasis, life thrived in earnest. Yuuma did his best to make himself approachable, but this did not include concealing his headband. Ill-advised perhaps, but Yuuma felt like it would hurt the spirit of the work if he did not attempt to hide his identity away. Still, this did not detour everyone, as few people would approach their group in a request for the daily deals of a shop, times for events, or any other local news. Yuuma had become that very same news person he had observed on his very first mission. Thankfully, his focus on his task allowed him to remember much of the information he had been given with little else in his mind. When midday would come, Yuuma learned how the postman takes their meals. That is to say, at their post. A set of folks in religious garb approached their group, offering forward gourds of water and simple meal makings of bread, vegetables, and a bowl of rice for each of them. It wasn't until the missionaries took their leave that Yuuma would recognize one of them as the man he had delivered blankets and food for when the snowfall hit. "Do you always take your meals while on post?" Yuuma would finally ask one of the guards.

"Usually, yes. It's rare we sit to eat." The first guard replied.

"Rare you get to sit at all, really. That's why the monks come to bring us food. And we do our best to make friends with the people." the other added as the three of them ate.

The day held little in the way of surprise for the young man on duty. It seemed many people mostly wanted to know where the deals of the day where, and which way to a certain hobby shop as his two most asked questions. As the day went on, Yuuma would notice the shift in the crowd. From the work driven to the leisure. Some couples coming to walk the park, and the sign of children showing that school must have been let out. In the lull between assistance, Yuuma found himself thinking back to his time in what he called the school. Really, it was a gathering of all the village kids as Ms. Juda's house so she could teach them all the basic stuff. All ages mixed in, so he as an older kid was in the same class and learning the same things as some nearly half his age. It made for slow progress but it had served him well thus far. A pair of children didn't escape his attention as they nestled behind a bush not far from him, whispering among themselves.

"Hey. This guy had a headband. Should we throw an egg at him, see if he'll make some fire appear?" One kid snickered.

"Nah, Su Yu said that guy is cool."

"Sen Yu?" Yuuma asked to himself as the two kids would scoot along to their next prank target. "That must be Feng Yu's little brother." Yuuma chuckled, feeling a warm wash over him at the thought of the woman. His mind reached back to that time in the square, the unpleasant look on the people's faces when he had used his medical jutsu to heal the boy's cut. Even her, but only for a moment. Yuuma's eyes would float to the ground for a moment as he considered the encounter, and how even now it had affected him, thankfully saving him from having to wash his freshly washed uniform. It was the culmination of his efforts so far, avoiding the boredom of a pair of children. Still, the notion made the man grin.

Once the day had concluded, Yuuma would revisit these thoughts on his way home. Once he had turned in the success of the mission, he would consider the experience of the day. People had been friendly, reached out to work with him. Offered him food, and friendship. Perhaps things weren't so bad after all. Perhaps there was a world in which both sides of this coin could live in peace. But certainly, he wasn't going to get there if he kept taking these baby steps. No, he needed to improve, and do so with conviction. From this day forward, there would be no more small missions. It was time to step up and challenge himself and his skills, using what he had learned here. If he was going to bridge the gap of the people, it would be through hard, toilsome work. And he was ready for it.
