The feeling of being alone (P, IO)
Thu Jul 01, 2021 5:06 pm
It was a strange and incredibly lonely feeling, knowing he was the last of his family. That feeling, knowing he had nobody left, was almost enough to make Asuka buckle. He didn’t have parents, or siblings, or even friends to share his time with. He didn’t have a squad or sensei at the moment either. That loneliness felt horrible, but in the end, wasn’t he quite used to being lonely already? At least this time, he had some degree of freedom. He could learn what he wanted to learn, specialize in what he wanted to specialize in.
While loneliness was like a void eating at his heart, freedom felt like floating, giddy in the knowledge that he could now make choices for himself. He still felt the flutters in his chest knowing that he could become the medic he’d always wanted to be without fear of punishment, now. To anybody else making choices like this would probably seem mundane, completely ordinary. But to Asuka, simple things like these meant the whole world.
And what exactly had he chosen to do with that freedom? Well, the obvious answer was train. Learn all that he could learn about medicine and the healing arts. He’d decided to start simple of course, having only learned a bit about Iryojutsu from books he’d read and the occasional annoying questions he’d ask at the hospital. Perhaps only the most basic of the medical ninjutsu for now, and a few others if he had the time when he was done. Some simple Suiton to defend himself maybe. Right now, he needed to learn the basics for the sake of moving on.
That in mind, he’d made his way to the training grounds, opting for a lesser-used one out of the desire for privacy. While he wanted to learn, he didn’t want to be around others when he did it. He’d like to try figuring things out for himself, even if he was very new to this. He wasn’t sure who he could trust in the village’s shinobi forces yet, and that alone was enough motivation to train in private. He wanted to do this on his own, and do it right.
Upon arrival at the training grounds, Asuka wasted no time in finding a suitable spot to practice the basic jutsu he’d chosen to learn. Since it was a healing jutsu, he needed to test it on himself. Somewhere with hard objects he could punch would work well, and do him the favor of helping train his strength and the jutsu besides. He wasn’t really in love with the idea of fighting people, but strength and endurance were useful for more than just combat. Carrying patients too injured to move was a good example of that.
He quickly found a decent enough spot, featuring a few scrubby desert trees and shrubs. The trees weren’t particularly sturdy, and remained largely leafless, but they’d do. All he really needed was scraped hands to test the jutsu on anyways. It worked well enough, though, and he quickly set about throwing a few basic punches at the trees. It was enough to shake the slim trunks, and he could feel splinters and scrapes forming immediately. Perfect, this would work for learning the most basic form of this jutsu.
With a single sigh, he looked over his knuckles and picked out a few splinters. It wouldn’t really do him any good to heal the scrapes with stuff still stuck inside them after all. Once he was satisfied with the relative cleanliness of the wounds, he moved to form the boar seal. Chakra slowly gathered to his hands, lighting them with a weak glow that signaled the technique was working at least to some small degree. As he poured a small amount of his chakra into the technique, the scrapes began to close. They weren’t healing at any extraordinary rate, but they were healing, enough that Asuka smiled slightly at his hands.

Stress - was there ever a point in her life she ever felt as stressed as she did now? Honestly no, there was never more than herself and now she held an entire village’s future and well being in the palm of her hand .. tsk if she aged anymore she was sure this would make her look decades older by now. To try to combat some of this stress she had been taking time to go to the training ground to let out some aggression - it was the only safe way for her to relieve the building tightness in her shoulders that seemed to pinch at the base of her neck. Normally at this time of day the training grounds were well filled with an array of sparring partners and teams honing their varied abilities - as she walked past them she would pause to observe their progress; some of the same faces were here day in and day out. Relentless as always it was something akin to pride she felt when she watched them grow - which is why when she passed by a particularly empty training field, empty save for an unfamiliar face… punching bushes and trees.
It was such an odd sight that it made her actually pause in surprise and a bit of amusement - interesting technique. With a gentle laugh she began to approach the boy - who was now picking debris out of his knuckles. When she got within 8 meters of him she finally spoke with a sweet tone of voice, “You know, training usually goes better when you have a partner.” She had continued to approach him as she spoke, his heartbeat spiking a little from the already fast pace it was thumping at. Taking his hands in one of her own while the other flashed through the three seals - Boar, Rat and Snake. In mere seconds his knuckles were completely healed without a trace of their former injury. “There, now you can effectively fight at full strength.”
Releasing his hands she would smile at him, her violet eyes studying his face while one of her hands flashed through three more handseals - Dog, Rat, and Ram - the moment the seals were performed she saw a beautiful blue aura surrounding the boy for a few moments. “Water affinity too.. Well this might be your lucky day.” At this point she had yet to introduce herself, but with the symbol of ‘Kazekage’ painted on her hat it might have been a bit obvious. “Would you like to learn a few things -” she would look around playfully, “- I think I might be able to spare some time.”

When he heard a woman’s voice speaking to him, Asuka nearly jumped out of his skin, having not seen anyone at first. But when he turned in the direction of the voice, he saw a woman approaching him wearing… was that the Kazekage hat?! She didn’t seem to stop until she reached him, taking one of his hands in her own. The confusion was real, until he saw the handsigns she was making. The rest of his scrapes closed up with ease, Her comment about being at full fighting strength odd to him. He’d only been punching trees for the sake of practicing his medical ninjutsu until the first place? What was even going on at this point?
“I’m a medic, lady Kazekage.” He responded politely to her question, the offer leaving him just a little bit confused. Was he dreaming? There was no way the real Kazekage was standing in front of him offering to train him. “I was trying to practice the basics by giving myself scrapes to practice on,” he added, averting ruby eyes. From the sounds of it, she was offering to teach him Suiton, which would more likely be combat oriented. But that would mean abandoning his current work on learning the basics of medical ninjutsu, and working on combat instead. He’d really wanted to master more of the basics today… but could he really refuse an offer from the Kazekage? It wasn’t like an opportunity like this came about often. A strong ninja coming out of nowhere to offer training was something that happened in novels, not real life.
“I can’t refuse an offer from the Kazekage,” Was his next response, head bowed respectfully. He still kept his eyes averted from her, unable to look someone with so much authority over him in the eyes. To him, the Kazekage was about as high above him as it could get. If she was willing to teach him, all he could really do was agree, wasn’t that right? And anyways, some basic combat training might do him some good on missions. Despite his desire to focus on medical jutsu today, this was really an offer too good to be true. Might as well accept it and learn from someone powerful enough to destroy him without blinking.

A medic huh… makes sense but why train here on yourself when you could be training in the hospital? The whole situation was odd but she did enjoy the gusto the young man had to take matters into his own hands. Leaning back on her heels she would press a few fingers to her chin as she thought, her head upturned to the sky as she went through her known jutsu to pull out any medical techniques that might be useful. “Since you are a medical ninja it would be best to learn more medical techs of course, how about this one, it comes in handy in close range combat.” in a moment her hands began to blaze with blue chakra. “This technique is called Chakra Absorption that can help drain an opponent of their chakra, I would recommend using a clone in this instance to keep yourself as safe as possible.”
As her hands fizzled back to normal she would get a concerned look on her face as she stared at him, “I really only know higher ranked medical techniques.. If you wish I could show you one of those but they are rather difficult to perform. It’s an upgraded version of what you were doing actually.. Called Mystical Palm.” She would perform the hand seals slowly - Snake - Ox - Tiger - Ram - Rat - before her hands glowed a gentle shade of green with the glow protruding a half meter from each palm.
“This technique is very useful for the user and those they wish to heal… or harm. This can be paralyzing in nature if a blow is landed in the chest, head or neck areas. You can also use it to reattach severed limbs but not regrow them. Heh, and in advanced forms you can heal or harm at a range of 5 meters.” She would deactivate the technique and rub the back of her neck with a sad look in her eyes, “I’m sorry I couldn't teach more, but I would recommend going to the hospital - there are more things that are teachable there you know. I do hope this helped.. But I have to head out - it was a pleasure to meet you.”
With that she would bow her head slightly out of respect and head back out of the training grounds.

Asuka’s eyes followed the woman as she went through the motions of each jutsu, his focus intense. Chakra absorption looked easy enough, and with only a few moments to consider carefully he was able to make his hands light up with blue chakra of his own. It wasn’t as steady or as radiant as hers, but he was able to perform it easily enough, a look of satisfaction overtaking his concentration. He let the chakra dance along his hands for a moment before it fizzled out, already looking towards the older to see what she would be teaching him next.
As he listened to her explanation, he found himself nodding along. After each handsign, he made a point to copy with his own hands, watching carefully to make sure he was getting each sign right. His hands slowly moved through the signs for snake, ox, tiger, ram, and finally rat, each one done slowly but deliberately as he got a feel for the way the jutsu worked. It was much harder to mould his chakra with this technique compared to the other, and Asuka found as he went through the signs a few times to be sure that this “upgraded version” was significantly more difficult to control, though even from just watching his kage perform it that it was significantly better in practice.
The first few times of using the signs, he did so to make sure was getting them right. With each repetition he repeated the words silently, making sure to cement the signs into his mind as thoroughly as possible. It wouldn’t do to accidentally use the wrong signs and have it blow up in his face, so he only actually attempted the jutsu once he was sure he knew the right signs. Once more his hands made the signs, though this time he actually attempted to mould his chakra properly. It wasn’t perfect, but as he finished the signs each hand glowed with a weak green light. Not quite there yet, but with plenty of repetitions he was sure he’d be able to properly get the jutsu down.
He hadn’t yet responded to any of her words, too busy concentrating, but now that she was about to leave, the young man prepared to offer her the proper amount of respect. “I’d never even considered going to train at the hospital. I didn’t even realize I could. Thank you for your help, lady Kazekage, it was lovely to meet you. These jutsu should serve me well in the future, please don’t mind not being able to teach me anything more advanced. I’m still perfecting the basics, after all.” Was his response, lighter coloured eyes following her as she left. Before she left, he bowed, much deeper than she had out of respect for her higher station.
Really, how on earth did he manage to get so lucky that the Kazekage herself had appeared to teach him a few things? That kind of thing surely didn’t happen in real life, not very often. And yet her he was, staring after the very woman who was in charge of the village after she’d taught him a few new jutsu. If it wasn’t for the now-healed scrapes, he might have considered this to be a dream. It wasn’t every day a medic as strong as that showed up out of nowhere to help you train after all.
Taking a moment to shake his head to clear it of any distracting thoughts, the young man returned to his cycle of running through the necessary hand signs to perform mystical palm. Now that he’s done it a few times he began using chakra each time, the results varying at first as he ran through each sign. The glow was definitely weak at his first few attempts, dim and barely even there at times. With each attempt, though, the glow got stronger the more he got a feel for the jutsu. Once he had, it only took a handful of attempts before he was doing the jutsu semi confidently, the glow becoming stronger with each attempt. It was cruder than Mizu’s had been, but it was serviceable enough for him to use. He’d still need to keep practicing, though.
