Now that Ray had actually managed to enter Suna, he had been feeling a little lost. The sand city was so unlike everything he was used to and he'd received more than a few humorous stares from the civilians as he bumbled around like a clueless tourist. Several hours after being allowed into Suna he'd finally found a... He hesitated to call it a hotel because it was so run down, but it was so incredibly cheap that it was worth it. He wasn't exactly swimming in cash at the moment, he ran a free medical clinic after all. He was also 14. Hard to find a source of stable income when you were that young. Anyway, the reason he needed cash was that there were certain... Rumors that the First Kazekage was a renowned merchant of powerful organs. Ray was interested in exploring his own bloodline, but he didn't want to be limited by it. Anything that would allow him to not only survive in the harsh climate of the Elemental Nations but also provide better care to his patients was something he desperately needed. His bloodline, from what he'd seen from his father, was immensely versatile... But it wasn't well-suited for medical care.
Ray unfurled the map of Suna he'd bought in another store just several minutes prior to figure out the general layout of the new village. He was intending to stay for quite some time to learn as much as he could, so learning the layout early was a good idea. Once again his use of a somewhat oversized map ended up drawing a few chuckles out of the nearby civilians. Ray liked to pretend that he didn't care what other people thought of him, but the blush on his tanned face betrayed his true feelings on the matter. He was a sociable person, and he was fine talking to a single person but crowds of people were where he drew the line. Even the thought of having to talk in front of a crowd made a pit in his stomach, let alone be humiliated like he was now.
He looked up from the map to try and figure out his bearings when he saw something odd in the corner of his eye; the movement of a shadow disappearing into a nearby alley. They were moving fast… Suspiciously fast. The boy cocked his head and slowly, and quietly, folded the map to put it back into his messenger bag. He wasn’t a Sunagakure shinobi, and for all he knew random shadows sneaking around the village were a completely normal part of the village lifestyle. He had his doubts, however, and he began to carefully creep across the now empty street towards the alley.
He pressed his back up against the wall next to the entrance and peared in slowly. There, on the far end he saw possibly the shadiest guy he’d ever seen holding a package. The guy was thin, far more so than Ray, and was wearing a black hoodie with a mask. If he was doing what Ray thought he was, then the man was clearly incredibly stupid. For one, no one smart wore a hoodie in Sunagakure regardless of the seals keeping it at a mild temperature. Two, he was literally holding the mysterious package in both his hands in clear view of anyone who actually cared enough to look. Ray sighed and turned the corner.
The guy spotted Ray immediately and instead of freaking out like Ray had expected him to, the man walked straight up to him confidently. For a second Ray wondered if he was about to die, but those fears were allayed when the man brought out a sack of ryo from somewhere in his bag and presented it to Ray.
“Forget you saw me,” The man rasped, pushing the sack into Ray’s hands.
“Uh, what?” Ray said, confused as he was quite literally given 1000 ryo for doing nothing. The moment the bag was safely in his hands the smuggler turned around and took off to go do his thing somewhere else in Suna. Ray’s face was the picture of confusion as he looked inside the sack he had been given and saw that it was a quite a hefty sum of money.
'That was strange.’ Ray thought as he emptied the sack into his bag.
